Welcome to Gospel Truth with
0:03
Andrew Wamek, a teaching ministry
0:05
that focuses on God's unconditional
0:07
love and grace. Thank
0:09
you Andrew for everything you've done, for
0:11
the teachings that you do. It
0:14
has affected every area of
0:16
our life, my wife, our marriage,
0:18
our kids, our business. So I
0:20
just want to say thank you to you. And
0:24
now here's Andrew. Welcome
0:26
to our Thursday's broadcast of the Gospel
0:28
Truth. Today I'm continuing
0:31
a series that I've been teaching for
0:33
three weeks about Joseph. And
0:35
I've got this little booklet that I wrote
0:37
that is a summary of this larger book.
0:39
This is the first time we've offered this
0:41
on Lessons from Joseph. It's a brand new
0:44
book. And tomorrow is going to be my
0:46
last day to offer this over television. So
0:48
I encourage you to please go to the
0:50
effort to request this. We're asking for a
0:52
donation of any amount for this book. We'll
0:54
probably give away over 50,000 of these books.
0:58
And if nobody sent anything for
1:00
it, we just couldn't do that. My partners
1:02
have enabled me to make it available for a
1:05
gift of any amount. This little
1:07
booklet is a brief summary of this. And
1:09
this is an absolute freebie. But
1:11
I encourage you to get the full book if you can. And
1:14
then we have DVDs and CDs that
1:16
were taken from my television program in
1:18
the USB that will have both the
1:20
DVD and the CDs on there.
1:23
And tomorrow will be my last day to offer
1:25
these over television. So please
1:27
take advantage of it. I've already
1:29
covered so much material about
1:32
the life of Joseph that I just can't
1:34
go back through everything. But man, to me,
1:36
Joseph is one of the greatest characters in
1:38
the Bible. And he gives us
1:40
something to shoot for. If Joseph
1:42
could do what he did and keep a
1:44
great attitude and go through 13 years of
1:48
slavery and imprisonment and
1:51
still have a perfect heart towards God.
1:54
And he did that without being born again,
1:56
without having his nature change. He did that
1:58
without the baptism of the heart. Holy
2:00
Spirit, if he could do that
2:02
without those things, then certainly we
2:04
can do at least as
2:06
well with a born again nature
2:09
and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the
2:11
Holy Spirit living on the inside of us.
2:13
And so I think that most of us
2:15
have just been aiming way
2:18
too low. We need to
2:20
increase what we're believing for and Joseph
2:22
is just a great example. So
2:24
we've already talked about how that
2:26
the famine had come. Joseph's brothers
2:29
came down to him to buy grain
2:32
and he recognized them. They didn't recognize
2:34
him and he spoke roughly
2:36
to him and said, your spies and
2:39
for three days put them in prison. Again, I've
2:41
said this every day, but I know that not
2:43
every person watches every day. A
2:45
casual reading of the story of Joseph,
2:47
people will think that he was just,
2:50
you know, vining and hurting his brothers
2:52
the way that they had heard him,
2:54
that this was vengeance and he was
2:56
doing this out of bitterness and anger.
2:58
That is inconsistent with everything that the
3:01
Bible says about Joseph and
3:03
it's inconsistent with what he told
3:05
them personally. We'll be getting into
3:07
that either today or tomorrow on
3:09
the broadcast. This wasn't Joseph
3:11
vining and getting even with his
3:14
brothers. It was him fulfilling the
3:16
vision that God had given
3:18
him, that his brothers wouldn't just physically
3:20
bow down to him, but they would bow
3:22
in their heart. They would come to
3:24
the end of themselves and begin to
3:26
repent of being these bitter, evil
3:29
people. And I've said this
3:31
often, but again, most people don't remember these
3:33
things. Most people don't read the Bible very
3:35
much, don't really know what it says. But
3:38
Reuben, the oldest son of
3:40
Jacob had committed incest with
3:42
his father's wife. Levi
3:46
and Simeon had murdered hundreds
3:48
of men. I mean in
3:50
cold blood, just murdered them.
3:53
It wasn't a defense or defending
3:55
something in war. It was absolute
3:57
murder. They murdered hundreds of men.
4:00
men and took their wives and children and
4:02
their animals captive. Judah
4:05
had committed incest with his
4:07
daughter-in-law. Every one of
4:09
the brothers except for Benjamin had been
4:11
willing to kill Joseph
4:14
and finally wound up selling him into
4:16
slavery. These were evil men and
4:20
they needed to repent and Joseph knew
4:22
that God had put him in a
4:24
position to bring them to the end
4:26
of themselves. So anyway, he finally sent
4:28
the brothers back. He kept Simeon, the
4:31
second born son of Jacob in prison
4:33
as safety that they would come back
4:35
and sent the brothers back home, put
4:37
their money back in their sacks mouth
4:40
and because of this, man,
4:42
they were just in terror. They knew that
4:44
this was supernatural, what
4:46
was happening and they even said that this
4:49
was because of the way that they had
4:51
treated Joseph and it was their sins coming
4:53
home to roost. So they
4:55
told the father that they couldn't go
4:57
back unless they took Benjamin with them.
4:59
Benjamin was the youngest son of Jacob
5:02
and Jacob loved him. He was
5:05
the only son left of Rachel,
5:08
Jacob's favorite wife and because of that,
5:10
he said, no, I won't send them
5:12
but they finally ran out of food
5:14
and they just had to do something. So this
5:16
is in Genesis 43 verse 1. It
5:20
says, the famine was sore in the land
5:22
and it came to pass when they had
5:24
eaten up the corn which they had brought
5:26
out of Egypt, their father said unto them,
5:29
go again, buy us a little food and
5:31
Judah spake unto him saying, the man did
5:33
solemnly protest unto us. This is talking about
5:35
Joseph, the man that was dispensing
5:37
all of the corn, did solemnly
5:40
protest unto us saying, you shall
5:42
not see my face except
5:44
your brother be with you. If
5:46
thou wilt send our brother with
5:49
us, we will go down and buy thee
5:51
food but if thou wilt not send him,
5:53
we will not go down for the man
5:55
said unto us, you shall not see my
5:57
face except your
5:59
brother. You know, we
6:02
don't know exactly how long a period
6:05
of time since their first trip down there, but
6:07
they kept Simeon, Joseph kept
6:10
Simeon in prison, and
6:12
I don't know, maybe it was just a week's travel or
6:15
something like that, but Simeon
6:17
knew exactly how long
6:19
it took to get from
6:21
Egypt back to where Jacob
6:24
and all of his family was, and
6:27
they were running out of food. So you would
6:29
suspect that this had probably been a month or
6:31
two months or something like that. Simeon
6:34
had calculated these things and
6:36
had basically come to the conclusion
6:38
that Jacob, his father, was willing
6:40
to leave him in prison and
6:42
let him rot in prison because
6:44
he was preferring Benjamin over
6:46
Simeon. So I'm sure
6:48
that this time that Simeon was in prison,
6:50
we don't know exactly how long, but probably
6:52
at least a few months, he
6:55
had probably had to do a
6:57
lot of repenting, a lot of
7:00
self-examination, recognizing that his father was
7:02
willing to sacrifice him to keep
7:05
the youngest son, Benjamin, alive. So
7:09
God was using all of this
7:11
to bring all of these ungodly
7:13
brothers. Simeon is the guy who
7:15
really led that attack
7:17
on these men where they murdered
7:20
hundreds of people in cold blood.
7:24
Man, this is
7:26
important, and some people
7:28
just skip over these things and don't
7:30
recognize it, but God was using Joseph
7:33
to bring these ungodly guys to the
7:35
end of themselves and bring
7:38
them to a reckoning. And so
7:40
in verse 6, it says, in Israel said,
7:42
Wherefore, delt ye so ill with me as
7:44
to tell the man whether we had yet
7:46
a brother? And they said, the man asked
7:48
us straightly of our state and of our
7:50
kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? Have
7:52
you another brother? And we told him, according
7:54
to the tenor of these words, and could
7:57
we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother.
8:00
brother down?" In other words,
8:02
they're explaining that, look, there was nothing
8:04
wrong on their part. They just answered
8:06
the questions and stuff. So finally
8:09
it says in verse 8,
8:11
"'And Judah said unto Israel, his
8:14
father, Send the lad with
8:16
me, and we will arise and go, that
8:18
we may live and not die, both we
8:20
and thou, and also our little ones. I
8:22
will be surety for him. My
8:25
hand shalt thou require him, if I
8:27
bring him not unto thee, and set
8:29
him before thee, then let me bear
8:31
the blame forever. For except we had
8:34
lingered surely now, we had returned the
8:36
second time.'" So Simeon
8:39
had already probably been coming to
8:41
himself in prison. Reuben had already
8:44
said that he would sacrifice
8:46
his two sons if Benjamin didn't
8:48
come. Now here's Judah saying that,
8:50
I will bear the shame of
8:53
this forever. These guys are finally
8:55
beginning to wreck, you
8:57
know, to put somebody else ahead of themself.
9:00
They were willing to start making
9:03
sacrifices for the sake of the
9:05
rest of the family, which had
9:07
been totally uncharacteristic for them this
9:10
whole time. So what Joseph
9:12
had done by accusing them to
9:14
be spies, by, you
9:17
know, locking up one of the
9:19
brothers and stuff, it was beginning
9:21
to have its impact. I imagine
9:23
also that Joseph also knew that
9:25
they had already been back home and
9:28
they could have returned with Benjamin. He
9:30
recognized that, you know, there was time
9:32
lapsing, but he had Simeon kept in
9:35
prison that pretty much guaranteed that they
9:37
were going to come back, plus they
9:39
needed the food. So this showed patience
9:42
on Joseph's part too. Joseph had already
9:44
waited 22 years. So another few days
9:47
or weeks or months probably wasn't a
9:49
big thing to him. So in
9:51
verse 11 it says, and their father
9:53
Israel said unto them, if it must be
9:55
so now, do this, take of the
9:57
best of the fruits of the land and your vessels.
10:00
carry down the man a present,
10:02
a little bomb, a little honey,
10:04
spices and myrrh, nuts and almonds
10:06
and take double money in your
10:08
hand and the money that
10:10
was bought again in the mouth of your
10:12
sacks. In other words, he was not only
10:15
going to return the money that they should
10:17
have paid for the first thing, but he
10:19
brought double money to basically pay back with
10:21
interest plus enough money so that they
10:24
could buy more grain. He says
10:26
carry it again in your hand. Her adventure,
10:28
it was an oversight. Take
10:30
also your brother and arise. Go again
10:32
unto the man and God
10:35
Almighty give you mercy before this man
10:37
that he may send away your
10:39
other brother and Benjamin. If I
10:42
bereaved of my children, I am
10:45
bereaved. This is something
10:47
that he should have come to a
10:49
long time ago, but it says over
10:51
there in Genesis 37 that when he
10:53
was told or when he thought
10:55
that Joseph had been killed by
10:58
a wild animal and his brothers tried to
11:00
comfort him, he says he refused to be
11:02
comforted and he says I will go down
11:04
to my grave grieving for my son. It
11:07
was a choice and I mentioned
11:09
this on yesterday's program, but you can't live
11:11
your life that way. You've
11:13
got to go on. If you are still
11:15
breathing, if you're still alive, I don't care
11:18
what, you've been through. God has
11:20
a purpose for your life and
11:22
you have to own up to that and you have
11:25
to get up and go
11:28
ahead and rejoice in the Lord. There's
11:31
an example in 2 Samuel 12 where
11:34
David prayed for his child that was
11:36
near death and he fasted
11:38
and he mourned and he was
11:40
in great bitterness, but when the
11:43
child died, David recognized his
11:45
servants kind of whispering to each other
11:47
and so he inquired. He said is
11:50
the child dead and they said yes
11:52
and he immediately got up and washed
11:54
himself and shaved and he asked for
11:57
food and he just began to start
11:59
being normal. And they were shocked.
12:01
They said, well, the child was suffering.
12:03
You went through all of this grief.
12:05
Now that he's dead, it's just over.
12:09
And David said, this is in 2 Samuel 12, he
12:12
says, as long as the child was alive, I thought
12:14
that there might have been some chance of
12:17
God relining on his
12:19
judgment and healing this child. But
12:21
he says, once the child was dead, he says
12:24
there's nothing that could happen. He says, I'm going
12:26
to go to him, but he
12:28
can't return to me. And he just got up
12:30
and decided to go on with his life. I
12:33
tell you, there's a great lesson in
12:36
all of that for us. And
12:38
so in verse 15, it says, and
12:41
the man took that present, and
12:43
they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin and
12:45
rose up and went down to Egypt, and
12:48
stood before Joseph. And when Joseph saw
12:50
Benjamin with them, he said to
12:52
the ruler of his house, bring these men home
12:55
and slay and make ready, for these
12:57
men shall dine with me at noon.
13:01
Man, that's amazing. You
13:04
know, another thing, I hadn't got time to go into this, but
13:06
Benjamin had been smothered by Jacob.
13:10
It says that Joseph had been the
13:12
favorite son and had this coat of
13:14
many colors, and when Jacob thought that
13:16
he had lost Joseph, I'm sure he
13:18
just refused to let Benjamin go anywhere
13:20
on his own. I'm sure he had
13:23
lived a very, very sheltered life. Now,
13:25
by this time, it had been 22 years
13:28
since Joseph had been sold into slavery, and
13:30
Benjamin was younger than him, so
13:33
we don't know exactly how old Benjamin was, but
13:35
he easily was in his,
13:39
well, he had to be at least 23, 24
13:41
years old. He
13:43
could have easily been in his 30s, and
13:45
this may be the first time he's ever been
13:47
out and seen the world. Here he is in
13:50
Egypt, seeing all the splendor of Egypt, and now
13:53
he's going to go to eat in
13:55
the home of the most powerful man
13:57
in Egypt. I imagine this was quite
13:59
a long time. an adventure for
14:02
Benjamin and he was probably pretty excited
14:04
over it. And so instead
14:06
of all of these brothers feeling honored
14:09
by going to Joseph's house, now remember
14:11
Joseph was the second most powerful man
14:13
in Egypt. He was basically a dictator.
14:15
I'm sure he probably had a palace.
14:18
There's no telling what he lived in but
14:20
it was probably exquisite.
14:23
And when instead of these brothers
14:25
being excited about going to eat
14:27
in the house of this man,
14:30
it just caused tremendous fear in
14:32
them. You can read that in
14:34
Genesis 43, 17. It
14:36
says, and the man did as
14:38
Joseph bade and the man brought the
14:40
man into Joseph's house and the men
14:42
were afraid because they were brought into
14:45
Joseph's house. And they said because of
14:47
the money that was returned in our
14:49
sacks at the first time are we
14:51
brought in that he may
14:53
seek occasion against us and fall
14:56
upon us and take us
14:58
for bond men in our
15:00
asses. And so these men,
15:02
instead of being honored, man, they were in
15:04
fear. They knew that
15:06
Joseph had already spoken harshly to
15:08
them the first time and they were in
15:10
fear. And so Joseph used
15:14
this once again to put more pressure
15:16
on these guys so that they would
15:19
repent. And again, I
15:21
say this that some people think that Joseph
15:23
was doing these things out of vengeance, but
15:25
that is not true at all.
15:28
And so in verse 19, it says, and
15:30
they came near to the steward of Joseph's
15:32
house and they communed with him at the
15:34
door of the house and said, oh, sir,
15:36
we came indeed down at the first time
15:38
to buy food. And it came to pass
15:40
when we were come to the end that
15:42
we opened our sacks and behold, every man's
15:45
money was in the mouth of his sack,
15:47
our money in full weight. And we have
15:49
brought it again in our hand and other
15:51
money have we brought down in our hands
15:53
to buy food and cannot tell who put
15:55
this money in our sacks. In other words,
15:57
these guys are finally beginning to own.
16:00
up, they're beginning to tell the truth, they're
16:02
beginning to ask
16:04
for mercy instead of manipulating, lie
16:06
and control the way that they
16:09
had done in the past. They
16:12
believe that this was God calling
16:14
their sins into account so
16:16
they humbled themselves. Look at
16:18
what the steward of Joseph's
16:20
house said. He said, peace be to you.
16:23
Fear not, your God and the God
16:25
of your father hath given you treasure
16:28
in your sacks. You know, before
16:30
I go on and say the rest
16:32
of these things, this reflects the fact that this
16:34
guy was close to Joseph. He was the steward
16:36
of his house and he said,
16:38
your God and the God of your
16:41
father has done this. I believe that
16:43
Joseph had probably impacted all of the
16:45
people around him with his faith and
16:48
these people were reflecting that. They didn't
16:50
talk about, you know, the son God
16:53
or the God of the Egyptians. They
16:55
recognized that Joseph and his brother were
16:57
serving a different God and that's reflected
16:59
in his statements. And so
17:01
he said that it was your God that
17:03
had given you treasure in your sacks. I
17:06
had your money and he
17:08
brought Simeon out to them and the
17:10
man brought the man unto Joseph's house
17:12
and gave them water and they
17:15
washed their feet and he gave their
17:17
asses a Proventer. And
17:20
so here these people are being blessed and
17:23
honored and brought into Joseph's house
17:25
and yet they were in terrible
17:27
fear and trembling because they knew
17:29
that Joseph had the power to
17:31
destroy them, to make them slaves
17:34
and they felt guilty and they felt like
17:37
that this was God bringing
17:39
their past sins into account.
17:43
In verse 25 it says, and they made
17:45
ready the present against Joseph came at noon
17:47
for they heard that they should eat bread
17:49
there and when Joseph was come home they
17:51
brought him the present which was
17:53
in their hand into the house and
17:55
bowed themselves to him to the earth
17:57
and he asked them of their welfare
17:59
and said, is your father well, the
18:01
old man of whom you spake, is a
18:03
yet alive? And they answered
18:06
thy servant, our father is in good
18:08
health. He is yet alive and
18:11
they bowed down their heads and
18:13
made obeisance." You know, Jacob
18:15
at this time was 130 years old. He
18:19
wound up living another 17 years in Egypt, so
18:21
he lived to be 147
18:23
years old. And
18:26
anyway, this is the second and the third time
18:28
that these people had bowed down to
18:30
Joseph. And
18:33
so let me go on and in
18:35
Genesis chapter 43 verse 29 it says,
18:38
and he lifted up his eyes. This is
18:40
talking about Joseph and he saw his brother
18:42
Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, is this
18:45
your younger brother of whom you
18:47
spake unto me? And of course Benjamin,
18:50
it had been 22 years since he had seen
18:52
Benjamin and Benjamin was just a little kid at
18:54
that time and so there's no way that Joseph
18:56
would have recognized him, so he asked about it
18:59
and he says, is this the one that you spake
19:01
unto me? And they said, God be gracious unto thee
19:03
my son. And Joseph made
19:05
haste for his bowels that yearn
19:07
upon his brother and he
19:10
sought where to weep and he entered
19:12
into his chamber and wept there. And
19:14
so again, this reflects the fact that
19:17
Joseph was not doing these things out
19:19
of anger and out of spite and
19:21
out of vengeance, but he was doing
19:23
this as a messenger of God to
19:25
bring these ungodly men into account and
19:27
that they would humble themselves. And
19:30
so it says in verse 31, he washed
19:32
his face and went out and refrained himself
19:34
and said, set on bread and
19:36
they set on for him by
19:39
himself and for them by themselves
19:41
and for the Egyptians which did
19:43
eat with him by themselves because
19:45
the Egyptians might not eat bread
19:47
with the Hebrews for that is
19:49
an abomination unto the Egyptians. Boy
19:53
this is an important piece. I wish to add
19:55
more time to go into this. Tomorrow is going
19:57
to be my last day to deal with this.
20:00
But the Egyptians hated the
20:02
Hebrews. They wouldn't eat with
20:04
the Hebrews. They
20:06
separated them. And
20:09
yet here is Joseph, a Hebrew
20:12
that was in charge over the
20:14
entire land. And did
20:16
you know for 22 years,
20:19
well let me rephrase that. For
20:21
nine years, seven years of
20:23
plenty and two years of famine,
20:26
Joseph had been exalted into this position.
20:28
He was lord over the land. Did
20:30
you know he could have imprisoned these
20:32
people who wouldn't eat with him because
20:34
he was a Hebrew. He
20:37
could have forced things to change, certainly
20:40
over his household, possibly over the entire
20:42
nation. He could have done some things.
20:45
And yet Joseph just put
20:47
up with their prejudice, put up with
20:49
their things, and instead of
20:52
demanding and taking his position and
20:54
demanding that they respect him, he
20:57
earned their respect. You
20:59
know this goes along perfectly with what Paul
21:02
told Timothy in First Timothy chapter
21:04
4. He says, don't let
21:06
any man despise thy youth. Paul
21:09
was a guy who started the church there. He's
21:11
a guy that led these people to the Lord.
21:13
He could have written to the church and he
21:15
says, don't you despise Timothy's youth. But instead he
21:18
wrote to Timothy and said, don't you let any
21:20
man despise you. Boy, this
21:22
is another great lesson to learn right
21:24
here that today most people feel like
21:26
everybody owes them something. And
21:29
if there is a prejudice against them because of
21:31
their gender, because of their lack of education, because
21:33
of the color of their skin, or
21:36
because of whatever the prejudices are
21:38
that people have, people want to
21:40
go and demand, you submit to me,
21:42
you yield to me, you treat me
21:44
this way. And they want to demand
21:46
all of these things. Joseph didn't do
21:48
that. Joseph
21:50
still ate by himself
21:53
With all of these people around him that
21:55
he was Lord over them. He could have
21:57
forced them to treat him a certain way.
22:00
And yet he didn't do that. He,
22:02
he allowed them to have their customs
22:04
in their prejudices and stuff like that.
22:06
And yet I can guarantee you he
22:08
earned all of these people's respect. Timothy
22:12
didn't go and in demand that you
22:14
respect me because I am now the
22:16
pastor. All of the churches in emphasis
22:18
know he he earn their respect. And.
22:21
We that so many people a day with a
22:23
chip on their shoulder her go on out and
22:25
demanding the to respect me. For. This
22:27
is a lesson to learn from Joseph right
22:30
here. He. Did not
22:32
go in and the man that people
22:34
treat him a certain way. He earned
22:36
people's respect. For. There is a
22:38
great principle here. And
22:41
today we have so many people that think that
22:43
you know we just need to pass laws and
22:45
make people do this and that. You
22:48
know the problem isn't the scan
22:50
it sam. And. We
22:52
we can overcome all as Sam
22:54
Now there's a place for. You.
22:56
Know passing legislation and stuff. I'm not saying
22:59
they are, but I'm saying that so many
23:01
people are just morning to demand that people
23:03
treat them right As long as they're Sam.
23:05
people are going to treat you bad and
23:07
you just have to learn to get on
23:10
with it and and operate in who you
23:12
are in Christ Again, let me say that

25:42
Colleen could not understand God's
25:44
love. Her past mistakes
25:46
left her sin conscious and ashamed.
25:50
I was just in my own self-pity, in
25:52
my own pain, in my own hurt. It
25:55
was all about, well, this was your
25:57
sin, this was your sin, you did that wrong, you
25:59
made that mistake. Look at that poor
26:01
choice. Colleen's daughter and son-in-law
26:03
began to show them the truth.
26:05
It would set Colleen free. I
26:08
just remember I listened to a teaching and immediately
26:10
I felt like the Holy Spirit said you need
26:12
to send this to your mom. God
26:14
is good and he loves us
26:17
because he is loved not because we
26:19
are lovely. It is because of who
26:21
we are in the spirit that we
26:24
have a relationship with God not our
26:26
performance. God loves you. God
26:28
loves you. He loves you
26:31
unconditionally. He died for you while you
26:33
were a sinner. He's not going to
26:35
give up on you now that you're his child. When
26:38
she began to believe that this
26:40
love and this grace that she
26:43
walks in is unearned and undeserved
26:45
it's only through the acceptance of the gift of
26:48
what Christ has done I
26:51
really believe that's the beginning of when
26:53
her complete healing took place. I
27:02
appreciate you guys taking the time to check out Army check
