I don't have to like everything we say, then

0:02

listen to us. Shall

0:31

we play

0:34

again? Well

0:52

dear Mr. Grayman, as it says, I am

0:54

getting ready to travel with my girlfriend, hopefully

0:56

soon to be Y2 Europe. I

0:58

really like the shows where you talk about travel

1:00

safety and travel tips. Are there any more that

1:02

you have as I'm actually about to do this

1:05

and I'm concerned for safety, but I'll make sure

1:07

there's nothing that we miss, which is a pair

1:09

of ways for a pair of praise version of

1:11

very long email. Which, yeah, I got you. I

1:13

got a few more I can tell you about, some

1:16

good ideas. I'll recap a couple that I've mentioned in

1:18

the past for coming up on the travel season. Things

1:21

you might want to look for that keep you safe

1:23

and help you with your situational awareness and

1:25

are just good practicing ideas for anybody when

1:27

you travel. So a

1:29

few travel tips right here on Grayman, hiding in plain sight. Oh

1:56

my God, I feel terrible. We got to get through this. You

1:58

know, it seems like every time I mention something. going well. I'm going

2:01

to have done it on here but doing it to anybody then it turns around

2:03

and goes badly. So mentioning I

2:05

had Sarlick which is great but then

2:07

I get to a place and they had

2:09

this cool thing going on here at this Air Force Base, planes

2:11

flying for days, all kinds of old planes. I get to see

2:13

a group information that consists

2:15

of like an F-15 and a

2:18

P-51 and a MiG,

2:20

I think it was. You know, stuff like

2:22

that was cool but it was loud. And then

2:24

although the days were nice, it was super cold at night and

2:26

I couldn't do any recordings after I run the heater and you

2:28

can hear it. And

2:31

then I started getting sick and it was funny because I was talking to

2:33

Luke and he knew it and figured I knew

2:35

I didn't know until the next day. But I've got to catch up

2:38

on these because I'm falling

2:40

behind but this is a good question about

2:43

travel tips, a few that maybe

2:45

need to be reiterated and some that we don't think

2:48

about all that often or might be good ideas. And you can

2:51

translate these of course, there's some of these that you can just

2:53

do with anything, any of your stuff.

2:55

Like the first one, it's really important especially when you're going

2:57

overseas, is dealing with your passport and

2:59

you should make a paper and digital copy. There's

3:02

some limitations to what you can do with those copies but

3:05

you can still scan it, do such things as that

3:07

or take photos with your phone, a place

3:09

where you can save it in the cloud that

3:11

you have access to. And I would, if you

3:14

want to go the extra mile, create

3:17

a simple email account that

3:19

you can send that to that you know the password and

3:22

stuff to. It's a burnable account so he doesn't have access

3:24

to all the other stuff if you screw up and you

3:27

know use an internet cafe which is a

3:29

common name for places that have internet in

3:31

Europe, Middle East and other areas. You

3:34

know when somebody has access to your stuff so you can

3:37

go the extra mile and do that and then you know

3:39

any paper copies you have can be helpful especially

3:41

when you're dealing with your own embassy,

3:44

not necessarily the foreign nation. Now another thing I've

3:46

talked at before is registering with your embassy which

3:48

is where you're going to go in and tell

3:51

them you're in the country. You know

3:54

advise them on where you're staying, any

3:56

information they want. It's helpful for them

3:58

because you know it's

4:00

seen. seems unlikely for where you're going, but we've

4:02

had issues around the world in places that also

4:04

seem unlikely where you had to evacuate American citizens.

4:07

It could happen for any reason. It doesn't have to be like Russia

4:09

goes crazy in a Vangero, but it could just

4:12

be major national disaster events or disturbances.

4:16

In France, I knew people that went to France

4:19

basically as, we'll say foreign exchange students,

4:22

are training for language training. They

4:25

were at the airport or on the way to

4:27

the airport a few years ago when the riots

4:29

got really crazy. The dudes wearing all the yellow

4:31

vests and stuff, and they're trying to

4:33

expedite the removal of them, the

4:35

service members. These things

4:37

can happen, and that's a good

4:40

idea to register with the embassy, and it makes it easier for

4:42

them to contact you and find you and get accountability to get

4:44

people out of there instead of being stuck on your own, hoping

4:46

for the best, not knowing what to do. Another

4:48

good one too, and depending on how much traveling you're

4:50

doing, this could be a little

4:52

more lengthy than some people, but learn

4:55

some basic phrases. There's a lot of good apps out there.

4:57

There's also advertising ones like Babel all the time. I remember

4:59

when Rosetta Stone was big and Pilsner's a good one. Depending

5:01

on how much language you want to learn, but you want

5:03

to learn some basic stuff. You don't even have to have

5:06

a conversational level, but

5:08

the essentials, the please, the thank yous, the

5:10

hellos, the goodbyes, the yes and no. Those

5:13

are common ones, but other ones we want to add to those is

5:16

that you need police or emergency services,

5:18

which you want to say police or I

5:20

need an ambulance. I

5:22

need to know where the bathroom is, and can you

5:24

help me? Also how

5:27

to say that you don't have cash, so

5:29

that people understand that you're using a card,

5:31

for example. These

5:33

are very simple ones, but they're very helpful because, for

5:35

example, some countries go to and you

5:38

need medical assistance when you go and you pay cash. That's

5:40

the only way they accept payment and you pay right there. Not

5:43

that you'll get in trouble necessarily, it depends on the country and how

5:45

their system works. We want to think of

5:47

these about ways where just someone has it, just

5:49

praying the ankle. Yeah, you

5:51

always got to be concerned about things like

5:53

violence and getting robbed, but something

5:56

simple happens when you go to the airport or you get malaria

5:59

Because you travel. The more unsafe. Africa or

6:01

you get sick may recovered. Why are we are

6:03

all kinds reasons? why would one an awesome these

6:05

basic phrases. They're very helpful to get through with

6:07

community but also some places they look up a

6:10

little bit to and I appreciate that you've tried

6:12

to learn their language the of thing to and

6:14

we're looking at apps as are some apps that

6:16

work is translators where you can type in or

6:18

say something and then they'll translate to that language

6:20

if you're going to use that. If you have

6:22

the ability I would find some speak the language

6:24

you're going to be translating to and temp to

6:26

use that a few times. As few apps out

6:29

there make sure you know which ones work. And

6:32

it's let's say you're going to hit some the major hot spots.

6:35

In Europe and travel I would just look

6:37

at devices you already know you're in ago

6:39

were most likely to interact with people say

6:41

on think the hotels and restaurants or. Oh

6:46

whatever. Those. On the

6:48

tip of my tongue out. Hours but. While. The

6:50

hikers don't stay hostels. Does

6:52

the places where he one of those basic phrases

6:54

but also look at population year and most people

6:57

do speak so much of English but it turns

6:59

out how far you're going specific into these inside

7:01

me The refer. But.

7:03

Common language is like French and German are pretty

7:05

widespread with So or Dutch and a few other

7:08

some. Figures out which

7:10

ones you want to use. And.

7:12

Hopefully. Between man modern technology

7:14

you have a good communication experience in a

7:16

better trip. As we talk so much

7:19

about gaining information and doing research, I think

7:21

that's the one thing that people underestimate. undervalue.

7:24

I. Was watching of a deal. I.

7:27

Mention in the best friend my travels as a

7:30

missionary to Africa. And I was

7:32

watching. Some other people had gone to the

7:34

same area. Same same exactly. she doesn't manages.

7:37

And talking about how they were going through the airport

7:39

and going through customs and security made by computers for

7:41

things like this big deal that I think they dig

7:43

him. Rivers is big deal but when you could could

7:46

bring the country. and they're talking

7:48

about it like it was this huge saying this

7:50

big victory farm in our synagogue like man this

7:52

is so sad because that was easy to know

7:54

you could have research that you can figure that

7:56

out so i things you want to look at

7:58

is where we are flying in and of your

8:00

report. You want to look at customs rules and things there,

8:02

how long is customs takes. Make sure you understand what you

8:04

can and cannot bring in and what

8:07

could or could not be considered a good or bad thing. Make sure

8:09

if you're going to run the risk where it seems like this

8:11

is probably okay, but it also seems like it might be a

8:13

violation. As long as

8:15

it's not going to put you in jail, you can bring it.

8:18

Just make sure you understand you could lose that. How important is

8:20

it? Can you get that item over there? If you're going to

8:22

be backpacking, can you bring trekking poles or can

8:24

they have the removable tips on them? What

8:26

can you can bring or can you not bring? That's

8:29

an important thing. Then you get to places like where

8:31

you're staying. Do you have to give up your passport

8:33

like at a hostel? Is

8:36

that a normal thing, which is something you want to ask the

8:38

embassy? Another thing to look at too is

8:40

based on your timeframe, using the closer it gets, the one you'll constantly

8:42

want to be checking, especially if you have a phone, is the weather.

8:45

Looking for major weather pattern changes out

8:48

of nowhere stuff. We'll

8:50

be talking about the weather action in a later podcast.

8:53

Is there a significant change in weather that's affected

8:56

your plans? Has there

8:58

been droughts in the areas? You want to go hiking and

9:00

now some rains are coming in and you can put that

9:02

together and go, that might not be safe because there's been

9:05

super droughts and now there's all this massive rain. There could

9:07

be landslides like we saw in California a few

9:09

months ago. We want to pay

9:11

attention to those kinds of things. The

9:13

other thing is you want to look for political unrest.

9:16

Maybe an election is coming, but are we having riots

9:18

in the streets? Are we throwing

9:20

Molotov cocktails? We're getting

9:22

to that level of violence in any country in Europe. It's probably

9:24

going to go on for a while and we want to be

9:26

sure, is that in our area where we're at? How's

9:28

that going to be affected on travel? The

9:31

thing is you can contact the State Department to find that

9:33

out, but you can also try

9:35

to contact the embassy over there. I've done it. You

9:37

can find the embassy and consulate phone numbers. You can

9:39

call them and you can get some information and

9:41

they can also direct you to places to ask

9:43

those questions. You can do a lot of that

9:45

beforehand. The other things we can

9:47

do too is research information like I've talked about money

9:49

before. Where's the best place to exchange money? Where's

9:52

the best, safest place to stay? What

9:54

forms of transportation do I want to use in this country and not

9:56

use in this country? You know, if I'm renting

9:58

a vehicle, what am I doing? doing? Are

10:01

they known to scam you with the gas pumps? One of the biggest

10:03

things, I don't know if I talked about this one, but

10:05

I got reminded of it from somebody

10:08

I know. They were in Mexico, so

10:10

they drove down there. The issue they ran into, the

10:12

guys were there like pumping your gas. If

10:14

you ever go to Mexico or any country and they're

10:17

going to pump gas for you, before you let them do anything, you get

10:19

out and look at that pump. What they're doing

10:21

in some areas in Mexico, and some

10:23

of this was very recently, is they

10:26

wouldn't clear it out from the last person, so

10:28

it might say like $27 or whatever. Then they

10:30

fill up your five gallons of gas and all

10:32

of a sudden you owe them $100 because they

10:35

added the last two or three on there and you didn't check it because it's

10:37

a big issue and you end up having to pay it. What

10:40

types of information like that do we need to

10:43

make sure we're not getting scammed? If

10:46

you're going to be doing the backpacking thing and you want to

10:48

go to this really nice restaurant, are they going to allow you

10:50

to come in there looking like a hiker and a backpacker? What

10:53

are the best things you can do for your trip to

10:55

understand what you can and can't do? Where can I go?

10:57

What can I take with me? These

11:00

are the types of things that can change the complete

11:02

dynamic of our trip, just like I talked about campfires

11:05

and camping. These little

11:07

things could actually make it feel like

11:10

just something terrible, like you're saying this is your girlfriend's.

11:13

I'm so sorry, I can't even

11:15

edit that completely out. Say you're

11:18

going to do a proposal and it's going to be all romantic, where

11:20

are you going to do that? Because if you're hiking and it's going

11:22

to be the nice restaurant, you need to find that out beforehand. If

11:25

you're going up to a cool mountain top and you're hiking,

11:27

whatever, have at it. Make sure you

11:29

know where you can and can't go. What

11:32

are prices, for example? In some places, prices, even

11:34

in the United States, like when I lived in

11:37

Hawaii in the military, we

11:39

used to do these things called kamaianikarts. They

11:41

give them to the military members because

11:43

we weren't Hawaiians. It was so that not all places

11:45

would do it, but most places would give us local

11:48

pricing. When you go to Hawaii, if you don't know

11:50

this, there are places where there are

11:52

different prices. There are prices for the locals and there

11:54

are prices for the American citizens. In some places, there

11:56

are prices for foreigners and it's all legal. It depends

11:58

on where you're at and what they're doing. other countries it's

12:00

like that too. There might be different prices for locals or

12:02

different prices for you. So make sure you understand what

12:05

price am I really paying. You

12:07

know and that comes down to also the cards

12:09

that we're carrying, credit cards. If

12:12

you have the ability to sign up for a new credit

12:14

card, I'm not saying do that, but definitely research them online

12:16

and look for ones that have possibly travel points if you're

12:19

going to be traveling more. But what you really want to

12:21

look for are overseas transaction

12:23

fees. There are still plenty of cards that

12:25

charge high fees for using them in any

12:27

form or only in certain ways overseas. Whereas

12:30

other banking institutions cut you break and

12:32

if you use them overseas they don't charge you anything and you want

12:34

to make sure you know and you want to call that bank and

12:37

get the details long before you go so

12:39

that you don't have potentially hundreds of dollars

12:41

in extra charges because you didn't know

12:43

that you should be using the bank card

12:45

you had from this bank over here instead of the credit card

12:47

from this bank and it was

12:49

an expensive mistake. Now

12:51

in previous episodes ones I've talked about were

12:53

transportation and that's a big one. The biggest

12:55

thing about transportation is knowing what is common

12:57

and knowing what realistic expected pricing is from

13:00

point A to point B typically going to

13:02

be your port your hotel

13:04

or I mean your airport to

13:06

your hotel or your airport to your destination and even

13:08

within the city if you're taking

13:10

a cab what's a realistic pricing and you don't ask the

13:12

cab driver that. You can't ask the

13:14

embassy this, there are other people you can ask,

13:16

you can also find all kinds of guys that

13:19

are influencers that have websites and like one

13:22

guy I don't know if he still does stuff I used to read

13:24

about stuff by this guy called nomadic Matt he had a website he

13:26

did a little bit of YouTube traveled

13:28

I mean he's got all kinds of information on credit cards

13:31

stuff even if he's

13:33

not still doing this I guarantee you stuff's still

13:35

out there and there's gonna be information

13:37

that might be out of date but most of it will

13:39

be useful and I would definitely look at that. Find other

13:41

people that are basically professional travelers or influencers

13:44

that are doing travel and they can even if their whole

13:46

things just planes fine find out about planes what are the

13:48

best planes to take when you know what are the best

13:50

pricing options what are the best times to fly what are

13:53

the best credit cards used where the best places to stay you

13:55

Know there's touristy things you want to do over there. Find

13:57

somebody that's been there and they go oh yeah, you? absolutely.

14:00

We want to do senior be alone to do this time.

14:02

Years have you gone this time he or don't do it

14:04

then you're like okay so I probably shouldn't do that, are

14:06

probably should do that you know of Yep. choices to

14:08

look at you trying to narrow down what to do you

14:10

basically using the information everybody else has learned and use an

14:13

iterative managed. Something.

14:15

Else to look out when it comes to money to

14:17

is finding out what money they except we often assume

14:19

too much especially in Europe. Will.

14:21

They sept American currency or do you need local

14:23

currency and when you're in places like Europe how

14:26

many different local currencies will accept what are be

14:28

the best option for you to have an even

14:30

if you're using say credit card. Some places will

14:32

not accept credit card from other countries or specific

14:34

countries smoke she find out as time with his

14:37

hotel taken American credit card and if they will

14:39

will they take a merry surprisingly only to visa.

14:42

Just. Like you find more more in the United

14:44

States places upon take American Express because they're high

14:46

costs then you'll you'll find that other places in

14:48

the world are doing at to that site. Cosco.

14:51

Forever was known to be the American Express store and

14:53

they mess with Switch to be so why probably just

14:55

to the high transaction costs and Marcus press charges probably

14:58

say them potential and I can say the millions for

15:00

all we know. There's

15:02

other places like Danny want to find out

15:04

you know why, or even if there's some

15:06

restriction because of the type of bank the

15:08

you're using, So there's different things you can

15:10

look out when it comes to your money

15:13

and your form of currency. And.

15:15

Whether or not the place you're gonna go

15:17

will accept it and then you also want

15:19

to find out comedy nominations to carry so

15:21

you're not weapon out. The. Equivalent of

15:23

hundred dollar bills were would be noticeable and you would

15:26

be a target worse and other voices would be okay

15:28

to do it. You know like in America? eager to

15:30

Las Vegas One of things they say. On.

15:33

The Strip Hundred dollar bills are basically like pennies.

15:35

I mean, they're everywhere. As like a dollar bill.

15:38

There's. An acceptable loss category for casinos in Vegas

15:40

for fake one hundred dollar bills because I just

15:42

can't track the movements. To. Know

15:44

them best get anything but it's very rare com

15:47

and there but then you go to small town

15:49

Usa, need or the grocery store for a coke

15:51

in a candy bar with a hundred dollar bills

15:53

and Melina take it. You know it's very common

15:55

that people like Emma taken at work it looks

15:57

like they're gone. The extra mount a verified and

15:59

tells you exactly the often as you say said

16:01

Some you can find out beforehand to make sure

16:03

that you don't make a mistake where you actually

16:05

of money but you can't use it because you're

16:07

their own currency or they can't provide the change.

16:10

Why? Have talked about this before one on

16:12

us important things is keep your luggage close,

16:14

especially when going from point A to point.

16:17

Aside from on the scams, have talked about some

16:19

people to straight up steal it. The why some

16:21

areas are far more widely known as the fact

16:23

is that you're at a type of port so

16:25

like. If. Their ships involved or

16:27

you're doing like an airport bus when

16:29

you're outside the building ended. Major transportation

16:31

areas or at a bus station. Amy

16:33

Steps Places is because you're there to

16:35

your target more than the country you're

16:37

in. Even though the country you're in,

16:39

it might be more common. Is.

16:41

Evelyn because that's where you're at. see where? Make

16:44

sure the you have those things close your so

16:46

want to know and I've talked about this before

16:48

but knowing the escape routes from your hotel room.

16:51

You know what? they're not as far scapes or whatever

16:53

there is water. local plan isn't Were you supposed to

16:55

do a certain types of emergencies and read those cards

16:58

on the doors and as foreign countries because find out

17:00

what they say We We just assume that they talk

17:02

about fire escapes because that's where we don't America but

17:04

you get over There is some countries you go to

17:06

like to go to like Thailand in Astana Beach. Some.

17:09

Evacuation procedures have to do with what you do

17:11

in the case of a tsunami. Some actually read

17:13

those cards understand where. Things.

17:15

That would be enough to the com and is would just

17:18

be the most likely thing to happen. and then go check

17:20

that escape route. Do the doors work. Is.

17:22

It safe to go that way. You know what

17:24

happens in this about? what should I do Anything

17:26

to us auto manager and get some more information

17:29

to find out. What? It is

17:31

and then. You. Wanna make sure

17:33

that was stairs may be great for

17:35

exercise stairs or were crimes happen so.

17:38

Stairs. When elevators available.

17:41

Are most likely gonna be our

17:44

way of escaping during a bent

17:46

because. Others can be locked down

17:48

a to be mentally a trap. Before.

17:51

All the other times. It's. better to stick in

17:53

the elevators most of the crimes happen when people are

17:55

going to and from a room and hotel or will

17:57

be in a stairwell will not be in the elevator

17:59

the over The refrigerator is too trapped and too

18:01

confined and even if you open

18:03

shut the door, do the stuff they do in the movies, you never

18:05

know who's going to see you and a lot of them have cameras

18:07

now. Even if they don't have cameras, the safest place to commit a

18:09

crime for a bad guy is going to

18:12

be in that stairwell. While

18:14

you're in the hotel, one of the things you want to find out

18:16

about is how many stories it is. A

18:19

couple things to note. One, just like an apartment complex,

18:22

you don't want to stay on the bottom floor. You're

18:24

more prone to break-ins there, just easier for people to

18:26

get in and get out, especially if they have sliding

18:28

glass doors or big windows. The

18:30

other thing you want to find out, if you can

18:33

find out, is about emergency services and what their capabilities are.

18:36

There's plenty of countries where emergency services don't

18:38

have the physical capability to evacuate people from

18:40

higher floors because they don't have the material

18:42

or the vehicles to do so. You

18:45

want to aim for the middle, but you don't want to be ... Think

18:49

about these big ... Go back to Vegas, man. Some of

18:51

those places where they're 50 stories tall or something, how are

18:53

they getting dudes out of there if something happens? Go

18:56

to the roof and we're going to fly in the military like in a

18:58

movie. Think about

19:00

the floor you're going to be on, find out how many floors there

19:02

are. Going

19:04

up to floor two, four, three is definitely going to

19:06

be okay. A lot of places even a little bit

19:08

higher. Once you start looking

19:11

at double digits, you're probably too high in most countries.

19:15

Another thing about hotels, and depending on the size, the

19:17

quality of the hotel, whether or not it's a Vegas

19:19

tourist place or just small town mom and pop, B&B,

19:21

they'll have things

19:23

like gift shops and restaurants, maybe multiples.

19:26

They might even have event centers and stuff. Some of the bigger hotels,

19:28

we see that. I

19:31

would tell you this, the more touristy it

19:33

is, being it's a bigger hotel with bigger

19:35

things of those that can host more people,

19:37

dozens, do hundreds in any venue, especially multiple

19:39

venues inside there, are

19:41

definitely places you don't want to go unless you're going

19:43

to see a show and that's something you're doing as

19:45

part of your Vegas trip or something you're doing in

19:48

Europe. The reason being is just like

19:51

those are bigger targets than anything because

19:53

they're tourists, they're visitors, and usually a

19:55

lot of Americans. Find out where

19:57

the Americans are going and what kind of places they're going. If

20:00

you're going to be in a place that has some

20:02

of that unrest at the time you're

20:04

there, or if they're a little bit

20:06

more known to be violence or have

20:08

attacks or known like that, like if you

20:10

start hitting some more obscure places, that's

20:12

when those places want to be more off limits

20:14

to you, whereas higher profile areas that might be

20:16

a bigger target but are much safer generally that

20:19

tend not to have those attacks, you

20:21

know, still on a high level alert you wouldn't

20:23

go there, but you can definitely go there and feel okay about

20:25

it. You know, places like the

20:28

Louvre have lines forever and it would be a right place to

20:30

have an attack and we know they've happened like at the Eiffel

20:32

Tower, but they're pretty rare but

20:34

can't happen. There's just so many

20:36

people, it's actually easy to get away with it but hard

20:38

to get away. So

20:40

you got to take a look at that and figure

20:42

out what's the crime rate like, how

20:45

much unrest is there, what's gone in this area,

20:47

and then you want to avoid those areas as

20:49

much as possible that are potential targets. Now

20:52

when traveling in a vehicle, especially if you rent

20:54

one, but also in public transportation like a cab

20:56

where you have control of the window, you

20:59

want to, unless you absolutely have to, you

21:01

do not want to roll those down, you want to keep those rolled up,

21:04

those are invitations for people

21:06

to reach in and take your stuff or to grab you or

21:08

to do the car jacking, that's part of what open windows are

21:10

for, that's part of the reason why they do the thing where

21:13

somebody gets in front of you, slows down, you rent them,

21:15

another guy comes in and backs in and blocks you but

21:17

you don't realize maybe that's what's happening. What

21:20

they're really waiting for you to do is get out of the car, because once you

21:22

get out of the car that's it. If you stay in the

21:24

car and refuse to get out, they'll eventually

21:26

actually probably walk away if it's a scam or they're trying to

21:28

rob you. They need you out of the car

21:30

so they can take you in or get into your vehicle and take

21:32

your stuff. So we want

21:34

to be in there, we want to have locked doors and we want

21:36

to have windows up as much as possible and

21:39

we want to make sure that we're cognizantly aware

21:41

of everybody that's walking around us or can't get

21:43

close enough to reach us within a couple of

21:45

steps because those are your more immediate threats. Now

21:48

why we want to plan our routes as much as possible, part

21:54

of being the gray man in this situation

21:56

is looking like you're supposed to be

21:58

there. Sometimes

22:00

it's hard for us to figure out how to do so. One

22:03

of the ways to do that is to avoid

22:05

looking ways that would stand out like looking lost

22:07

looking confused. People

22:10

are asking for help on the streets random people you

22:12

clearly don't belong there and people pay attention to go

22:14

up there not from here that's our target. So

22:17

you're better off if you're say there's

22:19

a hotel there and your loss or confused and can't

22:21

find a stop to just confident like you're meant to

22:23

do it walk down to the hotel walk into their

22:26

concierge or somewhere in there with less people can see

22:28

what you're doing. And you'd be like

22:30

hey I'm looking for this area can you tell me where it is

22:32

I'm looking for this restaurant I'm looking for this place

22:34

can you tell me. They've got

22:36

the information for sure it's safer

22:38

there's less people to potentially hear you maybe even one

22:40

or two whereas that on the street could be anybody.

22:44

Because a big part of things with

22:46

especially attacks are being targeted is. Kind

22:50

of the confidence the

22:52

demeanor in which we behave and walk

22:54

so think about like security guards. Security

22:58

guards the guys in uniform. Like

23:01

90 percent of their thing is their presence

23:04

is the deterrence the fact that they're there. There's

23:07

a lot of crimes that never happened just

23:09

because a security guard is present or police

23:11

officers around you know there's things still happen but

23:13

we don't even know how much they've gone down

23:15

it's mostly the criminals eventually caught and told us.

23:19

I think even told the story on here about some of the terrorist attacks

23:21

we had in Iraq and where. The

23:23

level of security that people had made

23:26

them delay their attack and when the soldiers became

23:28

more complacent relaxed then they did it

23:30

you know the security level was down and they hit him. So

23:33

there's all kinds of evidence to show that your confidence

23:36

and demeanor makes you blend in makes you look like

23:38

less of a target. They're

23:40

not trying to determine what level of confidence you have to find

23:42

out if you're going to be their next target they're looking for

23:44

the one guy that stands out that looks lost looks confused looks

23:46

like they're. They need a lot of help

23:49

and that's who they're going to get which is why

23:51

the most important thing I can say to you is this You're

23:54

lost. You're confused or something going on. Maybe you guys

23:56

are trying to figure something out. You're looking looking at

23:58

a map. Whatever you're doing.. And.

24:01

Somebody comes up to you. Don't know an

24:03

opera soap That your biggest threat. They've.

24:05

Identified something about you that you do

24:07

not belong. They. May really want

24:09

to have you. which is because they speak your language

24:11

or claimed to be from a country that you know

24:13

a claim to be American in your American to Doesn't

24:15

mean that they are. Am not saying you should run

24:17

from. I'm saying be smart about what you're doing. Because.

24:21

If they are the bad guy, they've already identified you and

24:23

your already in the middle to set up where they're about

24:25

to get what they want. So. Best

24:27

things you do to our allies as people are

24:29

to meet we walk away or walk into a

24:31

building that safe a business or tell something along

24:33

those lines. and if you want to find out

24:36

the best places to go to avoid them and

24:38

make sure you're not going to places where they

24:40

are when you register with your embassy. asking those

24:42

questions were areas I should avoid or com and

24:44

scams are things I should look out for. That.

24:47

People. Don't think about that happened. You're all the time and

24:49

I can be aware of and then they will to you. In

24:51

are few things I know of a common in that area.
