“The word [Community] may have come to suggest a ‘body of people who live in the same place,’ but, initially, it meant something much simpler and much more powerful: ‘joint ownership.’."
- Megan Garber, “What Does 'Community' Mean?”, The Atlantic
In this episode, we explore the concept of “Community.” It is a very important part of life to experience a sense of belonging; that you are wanted, that you are understood, without explanation. It is a big reason The Hamster Village was originally created; to, at the very least, promote a sense of community among the interracial community. Throughout the discussion, we examine how large of a role it plays not only in our day-to-day social activities, but also our own sense of well-being.
Our guest for this episode, is Jennifer Noble; a tenured professor of psychology, an active member & past leader of the Multiracial Americans of Southern California (MASC), and of African-American/Sri Lankan descent. Throughout the interview we discuss the different times in her life she found “community” through shared experiences, the benefit of knowing both her Black & Sri Lankan side, her discoveries & hopes for the interracial community, her work with MASC, and more! It is a great episode, and one you do not want to miss!
