1:07

1:10

Goal podcast and is the voice of

1:12

horse racing at Canterbury Park. PA, Paul

1:14

Allen, thanks for joining me on the

1:16

podcast today. My man, thanks

1:18

for the opportunity and I follow you on

1:20

Twitter so I know you're really into Minnesota

1:23

sports and this is a wonderful opportunity. Thank

1:25

you. Well, I appreciate it and as much

1:27

as we love Minnesota sports, I think there's

1:29

something that you and I both respect and

1:31

love even more and that's faith in Jesus

1:34

Christ as our Lord and Savior. I

1:37

discovered that you came to faith in the Lord at

1:39

age 52 and for some of us

1:41

like me, it

1:44

takes like a rock bottom moment to rededicate your

1:47

life to Christ or to dedicate your life in

1:49

the first place. What

1:51

was that process like? Because up until age 52, you

1:53

hadn't yet done that. So was

1:55

there a moment? Was there a spiritual

1:58

awakening that happened? in your

2:00

life or what happened? Well

2:03

thank you very much for asking specifically right

2:05

out of the gate and you know despite

2:08

calling Minnesota Vikings games doing 9 to

2:11

noon on on K-fan, calling races, everything

2:13

you said, my

2:15

identity specifically with those who

2:17

know me best

2:19

is rooted in the Bible

2:21

and rooted in the

2:24

triune, God, Jesus Christ and the

2:26

Holy Spirit. So that's my

2:28

identity you know really moving forward with

2:30

the rest of my life and you

2:32

know to really just share in

2:35

truncated fashion kind of what happened to me

2:37

is you know I'm 58 years

2:39

of age, I've always believed in

2:42

God, I always prayed the Lord's

2:44

Prayer no matter where I lived

2:46

Hawaii, the Philippines, California, Washington

2:49

DC, Minnesota wherever

2:51

and you know I always was one to

2:53

talk to God in essence like

2:56

you know say I'm walking into an ocean

2:58

you know I always was a person

3:00

who believed in God and would be like thank

3:03

you for this beautiful day father or thank you

3:05

for this opportunity. So really for

3:07

the first 50 some odd years of my life

3:09

that's who I was. During

3:12

that time I had no idea

3:15

that A, Christ

3:17

was God on earth and

3:19

B, the significance of

3:21

the crucifixion and the resurrection.

3:24

So I went to an evangelical

3:26

preach at a Baptist Church in

3:28

Minnesota and Pastor West

3:30

who's become one of my very best

3:33

friends and absolutely my go-to teacher. He

3:36

was doing a series called All Sides of the Savior and

3:38

I hadn't gone to church that much in my life and

3:41

I'd never read a word in the Bible. I

3:43

mean you know I might have looked at something

3:45

if somebody asked me something but I'd never really

3:47

read the Bible. So he's doing this

3:49

series All Sides of the Savior and

3:51

it's also a book and it

3:54

was the burden of unforgiveness and these passages were

3:56

popping up to him just like you know Matthew

3:59

over here for Corinthians over there, Jose

4:01

over here, Habakkuk over here, and I

4:03

had no idea what was happening. But

4:06

I knew when I left that

4:08

I felt a way that I'd never felt in my

4:10

life, and I couldn't stop thinking about it. So I

4:12

went to call races at Canterbury, and I

4:15

just could not wait to get back, but I

4:17

still hadn't cracked open the Bible. So I go

4:19

the next week, all sides of the Savior again,

4:22

burden of idolatry, and I didn't even

4:24

know what idolatry meant. And

4:26

here come these passages again. There's

4:29

Philippians and Revelation and

4:32

Genesis and Deuteronomy. And

4:35

I mean, I was like, whoa. But

4:38

at that point, I had learned by listening

4:40

closely that I'm like, so wait

4:42

a second. The

4:45

Jesus Christ on earth was God.

4:47

So God became man. All right, so I put

4:50

that together. And Matthew,

4:52

the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 11, verses 28 to 30,

4:54

was part of that preach, I

4:58

believe, one of the first two. And

5:00

I don't have my Bible in front of me, but it's like

5:03

Matthew 11, 28 to 30, come to me,

5:05

all who are heavy laden, and I'll give you

5:07

rest, take my yoke upon you and learn from

5:09

me. My heart is lowly and my burden

5:11

is light. And I looked at

5:13

it and I just couldn't stop thinking about it. And

5:17

it's the first thing that hit

5:19

me after I learned the significance

5:22

and immortality of Jesus Christ. Well,

5:25

then I'm thinking to myself, you know,

5:27

if his heart is lowly and

5:30

his burden is light, like

5:32

why am I freaking out on all these

5:34

little tiny things? So that was an epiphany,

5:37

so to speak, that I never

5:39

forgot. And secondly,

5:41

I then went into the Gospel of

5:43

Matthew and I read that passage. And

5:46

then I started learning how

5:48

to read around it, put the context

5:50

together, tie it to different parts of

5:52

the Bible, if that's

5:54

what's required. And so just

5:56

to fast forward and land the plane, I've

5:59

taken a. bunch of classes on

6:02

the Bible, you know, like a seven-week

6:04

course on Revelation, took

6:06

a class on eschatology, a class

6:08

on end times, but

6:12

systematic theology. It was

6:14

a 13-week course and I went to about nine and

6:17

it again was way over my head. But

6:19

God had me leave it recognizing

6:22

and learning something about an effectual

6:24

calling, which in the book of

6:27

Romans the Apostle Paul writes via

6:30

predestination, foreknowledge goes to

6:32

calling, goes to justification,

6:35

to glorification. And God

6:38

has me absolutely believing. That's what happened in

6:40

my life at that moment. You know, I've

6:42

always, I always have been with God and

6:45

he obviously always has been with me, but

6:47

until the age 52 he didn't

6:50

really reach in there and grab me and

6:52

like put me on my path so

6:55

that it's the most beautiful time of

6:57

my life. It's the greatest time of

6:59

my life. It's not even close. There

7:01

are details of life that run me

7:03

down, but the

7:05

overarching approach is

7:07

given my knowledge in

7:10

what matters most in

7:12

the world, the root to heaven. It's

7:14

the greatest time of my life thanks

7:16

to learning that and, you

7:18

know, it's gone to a lot of

7:20

speaking. I've done sermons and of late

7:23

I had just the unbelievable honor given

7:26

to me by by

7:28

trig, the chaplain for

7:30

the Minnesota Vikings, to do fellowship

7:32

the night before the final game

7:34

of the season, the Lions game

7:37

in Detroit at our team hotel

7:39

for players, coaches, and staff. And

7:43

when that was out because it was on my

7:45

birthday, so like I started it off and when

7:47

I saw cousins walk into the room because he

7:49

was hurt and I didn't know it was on

7:51

the trip, you know, and Kirk and I have

7:53

talked a lot of Bible. His father Don is

7:55

a pastor in Orlando. I respect him greatly. I've

7:57

called Don a hundred times to ask him biblical.

8:00

cool questions over the last five years. I

8:18

mean, it continues to be and it's not even close. And

8:20

I've called a lot of games, a lot of races, and

8:23

done a lot of radio shows. So, you

8:25

know, that really resonates with me

8:27

at least. But, you know,

8:29

at the end of it, they lined up

8:31

and hugged me and, you know,

8:34

Garrah Bradbury, Kirk Cousins, Jordan Hicks,

8:36

Cam Bynum, Brian Flores, you know,

8:38

just guys I've gotten to know

8:40

through faith over the years. And

8:42

I got some really nice text messages

8:45

after that about being theologically accurate and

8:47

impassioned. And so from

8:49

there, you know, God now

8:51

has me with a couple of them meeting

8:55

weekly so that we

8:57

can iron, sharpen iron and better

8:59

learn about the Bible. That's kind

9:01

of the agency. I told you to be truncated.

9:03

It took about five minutes. I apologize for that.

9:06

But that's my story and God is sticking to it.

9:09

Yeah. Well, last night, a lot of people don't

9:11

know this, but I'm a youth pastor at our

9:13

local church. And last night I did a message

9:15

on boldness and faith. You

9:17

get the hearing, then you get the believing. But

9:20

then there's this next step of having boldness and

9:22

declaring your faith to others. And you know, you

9:24

got to get through this fear of what, what,

9:26

what other people might think of you. How do

9:29

you get to that confidence? Where

9:31

does that confidence come from for you to

9:33

all of a sudden, your believer at 52

9:35

now you're preaching messages and sermons all over

9:37

the place in front of the in

9:39

front of the Vikings roster. Where do

9:41

you get confidence like that? Well,

9:44

you know, that that's one of the most

9:46

unique, best questions that I think I've ever

9:48

received in a setting like this, talking about

9:50

faith and the Bible and everything. So thank

9:52

you for that. I'll get to the confidence

9:54

part in a minute. It's,

9:56

it's God has the pedal to the metal

9:58

with me. The

10:01

Bible is something I read or listen to

10:03

every day. I write about stuff with the

10:05

Faith and Goal podcast. I've been a little

10:07

sketchy and in and out with that of

10:09

late because I've been doing other faith-related things.

10:13

With that said, when I say pedal

10:15

to the metal is not only am I still learning a

10:17

lot on a daily basis,

10:20

but God also has me with

10:22

some of these preachers that I

10:24

watch on YouTube. It's taken me

10:27

a while to vet out the

10:29

types of preachers that I believe

10:32

are absolutely to Scripture. They're

10:35

not too finger-pointy in any

10:37

centers or be at

10:40

religions that may be works-based

10:42

which I don't believe in. But

10:45

I'm also not as finger-pointy with it as

10:47

some other people are. There's

10:50

been a lot of learning through that. In

10:54

2021, I

10:56

had the honor privilege,

10:59

I guess those are the only two ways to put it, to

11:02

serve an 81-year-old woman

11:04

named Armani who

11:07

incurred COVID and

11:09

also had cancer. They

11:12

said if you have a pre-existing condition and

11:14

you get COVID, it goes

11:16

fast. I was right next to it. Her

11:20

daughter had COVID pneumonia. She

11:23

was in the hospital so she couldn't be with her mom.

11:26

I had COVID for 48 hours. It's

11:29

like four of us got it and mine was gone

11:31

in 48 hours. I'm glad it was

11:33

because I was able to get over there and serve

11:35

her physically and spiritually for

11:37

eight days brought right to her death.

11:41

To a man, and people get surprised, I bet

11:43

you you don't, but people get surprised when I

11:45

say this, it was the greatest eight days

11:47

of my life. It makes my

11:49

chin quiver every single time I think about everything

11:52

that went into that week and those eight

11:54

days. When I say the greatest, it's because

11:57

Serving somebody physically and spiritually, it's.

12:00

Either never happens in somebody's his wife

12:02

or if you're thrust into it. And

12:05

you know it is. It's there's only one

12:07

that I guess are two ways to go.

12:10

either quit or you serve somebody physically and

12:12

spiritually out. You know she died eight days

12:14

into it and then I'm We went to

12:16

her funeral in Detroit and he a lot

12:19

of friends and family members in over crying

12:21

over her, missing their friend, in their family

12:23

member and in I was really depressed man

12:25

for about three months right up right up

12:27

through the beginning of Canterbury Park. Twenty twenty.

12:30

One because you know, like when

12:32

I say panels of the metal

12:34

tim I was like father, where

12:36

where are the honors? This is

12:38

all I wanna do the rest

12:40

of my life when I just

12:42

get these a days. It was

12:44

the most powerful, beautiful, satisfying and

12:46

and. It's. A spiritual least

12:48

stimulating thing I'd ever done in my

12:50

life. And it wasn't like a spiritual

12:53

buzz for you hear a preacher you're

12:55

reading of new supply balloon you like

12:57

was really resonated with you know this

12:59

was wife and I just loved. As

13:01

you know through that I learned the

13:04

honors come from God and I'm on

13:06

his schedule and were on his schedule

13:08

not on ours so I was. That

13:10

was a big eye opener for me

13:13

when it comes to wear these honors

13:15

with all these privileged jobs of that.is

13:17

presented. Mates and that plays into the

13:19

answer. The question is that you know

13:21

when it, when it's when it's proclaiming

13:24

my love for Jesus Christ and my

13:26

belief in the bible and the yard.

13:28

Try Young and dumb. Or. The

13:30

Trinity, The Godhead our view describe it. Got.

13:34

You know it's it's It's hard

13:36

for me to answer that because

13:38

God has made things have been

13:40

didn't least so much easier for

13:42

me that he has a lot

13:44

of people and what I mean

13:47

is is you know I the

13:49

I take I came to the

13:51

full belief of Christ and understanding

13:53

of Christ and and and the

13:55

baptism. In in my fifties.

13:58

But. during that time you

14:00

know despite not going to

14:02

college, despite living just a

14:04

reprehensible and at times repulsive

14:07

life back in the 90s,

14:09

that full of sin, he

14:12

still permitted me and guided me

14:15

to become a racetrack

14:17

announcer on a microphone for 30

14:19

years called Minnesota Vikings Football as

14:22

my very first play-by-play job. I mean,

14:24

I auditioned for a National Football League

14:26

play-by-play job and I went. So God

14:28

put me there and this

14:30

is my first radio show ever in my life too at

14:33

K-Pan and I've done it 26 years. So

14:36

he put all these microphones in front

14:39

of me and built my confidence and

14:41

the eloquent speaking styles and the big

14:43

Twitter following and things like that and

14:45

that in its own right gives confidence.

14:49

But I've just learned a lot

14:51

through the gaining of the confidence

14:54

of when to jump in organically,

14:58

when to back off and

15:00

it's just been a beautiful process. Thank you for

15:02

asking. Absolutely. And for those of you, I just

15:04

want to respond to

15:06

a point that you made. For some people

15:08

that think that God can't use them, well,

15:10

you just shared that after 50 something years

15:12

of life, God was

15:15

able to grab a hold of you

15:17

and change you and use you despite

15:19

passing in and I mean, that's the

15:21

fact for all of us and I

15:23

turn my thoughts and opinions or remember

15:25

the Apostle Paul. He

15:27

was Saul from Tarsus who persecuted

15:30

and killed Christians and this is

15:32

a guy that Jesus impacted and

15:36

inspired to write most of the New

15:38

Testament. Well, and it's,

15:40

look at you and I, man. I mean, people

15:42

watching this, a lot of people watching this are

15:45

going to know you because they follow you and

15:48

God has made it with my

15:50

jobs and the secular shine that

15:52

comes with them so that X

15:54

amount of people watching know what

15:56

I do. So, therefore,

15:59

hopefully... The you know my

16:01

in our character is such where.

16:04

I'm. A novice get away at all like

16:06

this is used those watching if you

16:08

think I'm lying. Or. Of you

16:10

think I'm exaggerating or of you think

16:12

I'm making things up, you're a fool

16:15

because I'm not Now a dozen wholeheartedly

16:17

conclusively mean I'm right. I'm just tell

16:19

when you have always believed in god

16:21

and you know five years ago the

16:23

following took place and fighting through the

16:26

okay look at this twitter following. ah

16:28

the the everything God has done for

16:30

me with these jobs or me get

16:32

out there and share with all nations

16:34

and of the gospel and things like

16:37

that. Why to slow down on that?

16:39

Because my schedule. Not is. and it

16:41

was. I not by. So there's been a

16:43

lot of learning during this, you know, But

16:45

damn. But. He. Largest the Bible

16:47

teaches, There's anything you hear from me

16:49

biblically speaking to the best of my

16:51

ability is going to be free from

16:53

the bible is is not going to

16:56

be my opinion and and. I

16:59

don't care if you're an atheist like

17:01

Richard Dawkins. Ah, if you are a

17:03

preacher. One of my favorites like the

17:05

late great Billy Graham. may god rest

17:07

his soul. Whatever. God wants

17:09

you to do whenever he wants you

17:11

to do which. It's you

17:13

can't stop it in and try to

17:15

stop it And God gives free will

17:17

with the ability and potential for evil

17:20

and sin and free will very important

17:22

but it it. If he wants to

17:24

change at all for you it's going

17:26

to change for the better and there's

17:28

nothing you can do about it and

17:30

I just think that soviet a both

17:32

me and I'll be I can tell

17:34

ya to tell me stories I have

17:36

of God's hands ng something in my

17:39

life to make it happen whatever that

17:41

he wanted to happen on Sunday March.

17:43

Tenth: I'm preaching. Add our

17:45

and that and from my youth Pastor

17:47

Cypress in front of the six through

17:49

high schoolers I was have been given

17:51

the opportunity on Sunday March tenth, two

17:53

priests in front of our entire and

17:55

17:58

18:00

18:03

18:27

Apple Valley and are and at the

18:29

roads are now Rosenau Community Center on

18:31

Sundays you know and that's my church

18:33

and and that's that. Those are my

18:35

people and on their. People know thing

18:37

and I'm and and that's my church

18:40

spots. With that said every so often

18:42

like on Wednesday nights if there is

18:44

a if there's something going on or

18:46

a or a Sunday were have gone

18:48

to pay family on a Saturday or

18:50

you know I think that's important to

18:52

to you know God God shows me

18:54

a lot of things when it comes

18:57

to. Things. I see on you

18:59

tube with false teachers and things that

19:01

you know that I'll go to a

19:03

church and all of a sudden you

19:05

know says somebody is breaking out speaking

19:08

in tongues and a that know Mike

19:10

Wallace as you know that's not that's

19:12

not exactly and of the way it's

19:14

it's it's put hear about the Apostle

19:16

19:19

that and like him and I'll stay

19:21

away and so it Dom I look

19:23

forward to this March tenth man I'd

19:25

like an adult. Next year I'll take.

19:27

The reminder injure offices a couple ten

19:29

minutes from our Coon rapids of the

19:32

Dubs. Low energy as go there

19:34

every year for try to football fees

19:36

well it could be in Alaska and

19:38

to support you air somebody find me

19:41

a direct flight to know months. Since.

19:46

We're not laugh like that with that

19:48

cop man I know. Seriously. Well, Well.

19:51

I tell you what? As we get into some Vikings

19:53

questions here, I tell you what if if I still

19:55

run upstairs it's because my wife's gonna pop a baby

19:57

number two and a moment. So have I have this.

20:00

adults because I just received a text message

20:18

from my wife that our water broke. Let's

20:22

close our eyes and bow our heads for a moment.

20:25

Heavenly Father, please have it be in Your will for

20:27

the child that was just mentioned and

20:30

bring that beautiful thing into the earth in

20:32

10 of 10 fashion. In the

20:35

name of Your Son Jesus, Amen. I

20:37

appreciate that Paul. That actually brings up one

20:39

more point on God's impact on

20:41

faith. You hear a lot about,

20:43

I'll pray for you, but

20:46

the fact that you didn't say I'll

20:48

pray for you and you just prayed

20:50

for me is powerful. Say

20:52

it again. All I do is pray. I

20:55

do. In

20:57

fact, and here, and just

20:59

quickly like, oh, that's terrible. I'll pray for

21:01

you. All right. I mean, we

21:03

all have said that eight million times and

21:05

the majority of times we don't pray. Amen.

21:09

Because we forget. Here's what I do. When

21:12

I say it, like literally if I'm talking

21:14

on the phone, it happened last night to a dear friend

21:16

of mine who's going through a problem. Man, you know, I'm

21:18

going to pray for you. And then I'll be like, hold

21:20

on. And I'll put it on mute. And

21:23

then I'll like, I'll pray. You know, if it's a

21:25

short prayer, long prayer, whatever. I'll

21:28

pray to make sure I remember. Yeah.

21:31

Amen. Thank you, brother. I appreciate that.

21:33

Love you, man. Shifting on to the Minnesota Vikings

21:35

real quick. So much offseason speculation and it's not

21:38

even the offseason. Andy got four games left in

21:40

the playoffs. What

21:44

percent is chance to give Kirk Cousins coming back

21:46

in the Minnesota Vikings uniform? Because day by day

21:48

goes by and some random guy on bookies.com just

21:50

projected Kirk Cousins. Go to the Raiders. I saw

21:53

Kirk Cousins going to the Falcons. What

21:55

percent is chance to give Kirk Cousins

21:57

coming back to the Minnesota Vikings? Man,

22:00

that is such a

22:03

tough question. I'm

22:07

not afraid to concede that I love Kirk

22:09

and I love Kirk's faith and I love

22:11

what he stands for and I love his

22:13

father and I've gotten to know his family.

22:16

I want Kirk to come back here very

22:18

badly. The spirit

22:20

that we've had in the building at Twin

22:23

Cities Orthopedics Performance Center the last couple of

22:25

years has just been

22:27

beautiful, man, and for multiple reasons. After

22:30

about 20, calling games for this team, I was

22:32

about done. There

22:35

are some bosses of mine who if they're watching, they

22:37

know I'm telling the truth. Some very

22:39

close friends of mine. I was just done

22:42

for, I'd done 20 and I didn't like

22:44

some things about some things. With

22:47

the new regime that came in with O'Connell and

22:49

everything, I really

22:52

backed off going to as many practices. They let

22:54

me go to practice because they know that they

22:56

can trust me and I'm not going to go

22:59

on Twitter or tell anybody anything. But

23:01

nevertheless, I'm like, you know what? This really gives me

23:03

an opportunity with a new regime to kind of back

23:05

away a little bit and

23:08

dictate terms a

23:10

way I had not for the previous 10

23:12

years. So I didn't go to a lot of practices.

23:15

Didn't need to be on the second floor

23:17

of the facility, kicking my feet up in

23:19

a coach's office. I had

23:22

done a lot of that. I liked it, served

23:25

its purpose, but I was done with it. And

23:27

then all of a sudden we started winning all

23:29

those games. A lot of, with those close games,

23:31

man, Kirk Cousins had a lot to do with

23:34

those too. And then

23:36

I couldn't get enough of it. Then I was basically at three

23:39

practices or two a week. And

23:42

I just, I mean, I was

23:44

so rejuvenated from a spirit standpoint,

23:47

from a Holy Spirit in the

23:49

building standpoint, prayer in the hallway,

23:51

prayer in the field house, prayer

23:53

in the locker room, prayer on

23:56

the sidelines before the games. And

23:59

God just really. revitalized the situation for me

24:01

and Kirk Cousins had a lot to do with that. Just

24:05

being open with him about

24:07

the Bible and

24:09

talking to him about games and stuff

24:11

like that and so from

24:14

a percentage standpoint, I'm hoping it's a

24:16

high percentage. But

24:19

I think a key here, Tim,

24:21

is that there was a report, in

24:24

fact talked about it 9 to noon on K-Pan today.

24:27

Former Vikings general manager Jeff Diamond very well

24:29

respected in the NFL. I know Jeff. I

24:32

don't think he hasn't really worked in the

24:34

NFL in quite some time but he knows

24:36

a lot of people so I don't have

24:38

any reason to think he's lying but he

24:40

kind of went down the road of that

24:42

the Justin Jefferson extension is closer

24:45

than farther. So I

24:47

thought to myself if

24:49

JJ is signed

24:52

or extended before

24:54

there's closure with Kirk, well

24:58

that either because JJ is not signing a

25:00

five-year extension here or four-year extension if he

25:02

doesn't know who the quarterback is going to

25:04

be or what the plan is. So

25:08

that might be an indicator that

25:10

they're going to close on Cousins shortly

25:12

after him or

25:15

being around the facility as much as

25:17

I have as long as I have my ma'am

25:20

is when you pick 11th, I

25:22

haven't heard it but I can guarantee it's been

25:24

said a hundred times. Well, last year we're going

25:26

to pick 11th. We don't need to be picking

25:28

around 11th anymore because that's the bottom half of

25:30

the NFL. If that's the

25:33

case and this quarterback draft is as

25:35

deep as it is and if you

25:37

are not going to redo

25:40

something with Cousins and

25:42

you extend Jefferson, I mean I think that that's

25:44

kind of a tell that they're shipping all

25:46

in to get up to pick three and they

25:48

really feel they can do it or pick

25:50

five and take somebody that nobody's talking about right

25:53

now. So it's confusing.

25:55

Kirk resigning here, percentage wouldn't

25:58

be... Hmm.

26:02

One thing Kirk has been consistent about, the saucy,

26:04

is that he said, the one thing I want

26:06

to do is win. And

26:08

the one question that I have is,

26:10

is the Minnesota Vikings, do they present

26:13

the best opportunity to win next season?

26:15

When I look at the north, well

26:17

the Packers, the Bears, the Lions, it

26:19

seems like they're all getting better. You

26:21

look at the team like the Falcons,

26:23

well the NFC South is garbage. The

26:25

Panthers stink, the Buccaneers, they might not

26:27

have Baker back, the Ravens might not

26:29

be back, the Saints, who really knows

26:31

with them. If Belichick does go to

26:33

the Falcons, does he give Cousins the best chance

26:35

to win? You know, I

26:37

mean I know Atlanta's roster pretty well. The

26:40

Vikings played Atlanta this year and that was

26:42

the Dobbs Delirium game. So

26:45

first and foremost, Kirk's wife's

26:48

family is from the

26:50

Atlanta area and they still live there.

26:54

Well that matters. Well, you know, if you look at

26:57

what they have compared to what the Vikings have, with

26:59

all due respect, I would take our roster

27:01

over theirs, 10 out of 10

27:04

times. So you

27:06

know, with what you're saying here, what

27:09

has hit my heart of late, really

27:12

the last couple of days, and I'm being dead

27:14

serious about it and we'll see what happens this

27:16

weekend, is Kirk Cousins

27:18

and Kyle Shanahan, coach of the

27:20

Niners, are very close. And

27:23

Kyle, they both respect each other 10 out

27:25

of 10. And Kyle

27:27

has wanted Kirk before he had him

27:29

in Washington. So really, if

27:31

you want Kirk Cousins to be on the

27:34

Minnesota Vikings, I think the last

27:36

thing you want to see Sunday night is

27:39

Brock Purdy head out and lay

27:41

an egg. And the Niners get beat.

27:44

Because Kyle Shanahan, I swear,

27:47

he'll cut whatever it takes to get Cousins into the

27:49

mix. So that's first and

27:51

foremost, because that's a really good roster. And

27:54

that's a really good roster. But

27:56

you know, one thing that's very important to

27:58

Kirk is... is familiarity

28:01

with the scheme and the

28:03

offense and the calls. And

28:06

now he would be heading into his third year

28:08

here. So it's gotten to be kind of like

28:11

back of the hand for him. He's very smart.

28:13

And this offense is very good. It's the past first

28:16

offense. But when they

28:18

have cousins, Jefferson, Addison, Hockinson,

28:21

maybe get a little more to have some more merit

28:23

on the play action, it's pretty good

28:26

offense, and I think one that Kirk wants to

28:28

be part of. You

28:30

mentioned a little bit earlier the Vikings

28:32

chances or the possibilities that they're going to trade

28:34

up for a top three pick. Well, you look

28:36

at the top three picks from the teams. You've

28:38

got the Bears. You've got the Commanders. You've got

28:41

the Patriots. And I've seen report after report like

28:43

you have about the Vikings and their chances of

28:45

trading up into the top three. But you

28:47

look at those teams, and you think

28:50

that all three might draft a quarterback. I

28:52

mean, Matt Jones or the Patriots is a

28:54

question mark. Maybe they want to see

28:56

what he's got one more year. But I don't

28:59

think it's going to be as easy as everyone's reporting that it's

29:01

going to be, do you? Absolutely agree

29:03

with you. Ben Lever, former Vikings

29:05

linebacker, part of the Vikings radio network, our

29:07

sideline analyst. Well, he said that on the

29:10

9 to noon show on K-Fan today. And

29:12

it makes a lot of sense, especially with

29:14

new coaches, one coming in

29:16

Washington, one already there in New

29:18

England. The Bears are

29:20

taking Caleb Williams. I mean, I've

29:23

heard from somebody who's extremely close

29:25

to the situation that

29:27

that's probably going to

29:29

be the pick. So I'm all in on Caleb

29:32

first. But whether it

29:34

goes May, Daniels or Daniels May,

29:37

and those teams may not want to move because they have

29:39

new coaches, I'm with you on that. A

29:42

couple of weeks ago, I was kind of hoping

29:44

Bill Belichick would still be with the New England

29:46

Patriots because he never does what everybody

29:49

says he's going to do, which means that

29:51

that pick could be more tradable. Everybody

29:55

has a price. Everybody

29:58

has a price. Keep that in mind. So

30:00

I think there would be a way to get

30:02

there if Minnesota wanted to get there but

30:05

you know the Chargers at five with Jim

30:07

Harbaugh and Justin Herbert,

30:09

you know Anthony Richardson the

30:11

Florida quarterback last year It

30:14

ain't nobody at this time last

30:16

year thinking he was gonna go like

30:18

fourth in the draft All right, so

30:20

we're gonna go to the combine. We're

30:22

gonna we're going to Figure

30:25

out what the steam situations like and try to get

30:27

a grip on it, but somebody is

30:29

going to jump way up I don't know

30:31

who it is I don't I don't watch

30:33

college football that much but somebody's gonna jump

30:35

way up. So keep that five spot in

30:37

mind, Joe time for

30:39

two more two

30:41

more Wet shirt

30:44

and I almost wore a wolf's hat. Oh, man.

30:46

See it's kg behind you, right? Yeah, that is

30:48

kg behind me Yeah, we can we can spend

30:50

five minutes on the wolves anytime you want to

30:53

Totally bit by the squad. Oh, well

30:57

Let's do it then. I mean I was gonna

30:59

ask you if well Cat

31:02

goes for 62. Hmm Tim

31:05

rolls loose the Hornets. Yeah. Oh They

31:09

trade they're one of the best players Terry Rose here to

31:11

Miami the next day My

31:16

opinion is that this Tim rules team although

31:18

they are the second team I think right

31:20

now in the Western Conference. I think they

31:22

went to two yesterday or the day before

31:25

I Think

31:27

they're a little fraudulent to be honest,

31:30

I don't think they have the well,

31:33

probably Helen mean like, you know

31:35

if I if and and Chris

31:37

Fence the coach he comes on

31:39

my radio show weekly Chris

31:42

and I just really hit it off from the first time

31:44

I met him. We're both on the East Coast We

31:46

have a lot of similar interests You

31:49

know, so even if like Chris were sitting right here and I

31:51

said this I don't think he'd be mad at me But

31:54

I mean honestly in a seven game series

31:57

Would I pick or bet

31:59

the team? Timberwolves to beat Jokic

32:02

and the Denver Nuggets. I can't do

32:04

that. I mean, Joker's a machine, man.

32:06

And when the prize is right in front of him, he's

32:08

a different kind of machine, you know,

32:11

one that metaphorically just wants to choke the

32:13

life out of your playoff chances. So

32:15

if you mean fraudulent that way, like winning

32:18

the NBA championship, yeah,

32:20

I mean, I guess that's one way to look at it.

32:22

But when you say fraudulent, do you mean like, like,

32:24

what do you mean? I mean, I don't

32:27

think they're the best team in the Western Conference. When

32:29

I compare them against the Nuggets, and I compare

32:31

them even against the OKC Thunder, the

32:34

part that gets me is that Mike

32:37

Conley, 35, 36,

32:39

37-year-old Mike Conley, however old he is, is

32:42

one of the most valuable players on the

32:44

Timberwolves, not because he's

32:46

the most talented, but because he's the

32:49

smartest decision-maker on the roster. Right.

32:52

There's too many turnovers, Edwards even. One

32:55

of the superstars in the league eventually,

32:58

but in decision-making. I mean, I'm with you on

33:00

that, and the league is more wide open this

33:02

year than it's been in quite some time. I

33:04

mean, you got Giannis' group firing

33:06

a coach at the midway point, and they

33:08

got a million wins. I

33:11

like the Celtics, you know, but

33:13

the Tatum, Brown, now Derek White, you

33:15

know, Derek White, man, he's just kind

33:17

of an ultimate wild card for them.

33:20

Poor Zingus is kind of in and out,

33:22

but I mean, the Celtics, you know, this

33:24

could be the year for the Celtics, but

33:26

from a Western Conference standpoint, I honestly don't

33:28

believe that like Golden State's gonna make some

33:30

big temporary lead run this year, you know,

33:32

and now they're going through a lot with

33:34

the death of the assistant coach, which was

33:36

just awful. Phoenix,

33:39

you know, Phoenix with Booker, Durant,

33:41

and Beal, and Nerkich,

33:44

who compliments them well. They

33:46

don't have much of a bench, but I mean, those

33:49

three guys, they're unselfish guys. So

33:51

like when Oklahoma City had Westbrook,

33:53

Harden, and Durant, you know,

33:55

that wasn't the most unselfish group where

33:58

Durant, Booker, and Beal are unselfish and

34:00

Bradley gets to the line a lot, you know, when he plays

34:02

a lot of minutes and he hits them. So

34:04

Phoenix, you know, I believe could be the team to

34:07

beat in the West this year. Um,

34:09

but with Oklahoma city is

34:11

Oklahoma city and the Timberwolves in my

34:13

estimation, Tim, they're the same team for

34:15

different reasons as of right now, you

34:18

know, uh, Gil, just Alexander runs

34:20

the point better than anybody. They have to

34:22

run the point here, but you

34:24

know, they don't really have an Edwards off

34:26

the dribble to do what he does. But

34:29

the thing, and then you talk about the turnovers,

34:31

man, you're in a lead basketball mind. Okay.

34:34

See is number one in the NBA

34:37

at taking the ball, creating

34:39

turnovers and the fewest turnovers.

34:41

That's going to kill the summer. It's going to

34:43

play off time. Yeah. That is in

34:45

playoff time. If they can keep it like that.

34:47

So now when it gets to be

34:50

the playoffs and they don't call the same fouls as

34:52

they do in the regular season and they start to

34:54

get a little physical with SGA and

34:56

giddy hasn't been as good this year as

34:58

he has in the past. Well, now you

35:00

got Jalen Williams and, um, and Isaiah Joe

35:02

and Lou dort and all those guys shooting

35:06

a million three pointers and they're

35:08

really reliant on that. So,

35:10

you know, they, they have their flaws

35:12

the way we have our flaws, but

35:15

they're just a little different, but this

35:17

is a fun Timberwolves team. And

35:20

I just have so much respect, admiration and love

35:22

for Rudy go bare. I've always loved him during

35:24

his career. I, you know, I thought the whole

35:27

situation was awful last year and

35:29

he was really slow getting back on defense

35:31

and then he's throwing punches, the teammates. Yeah.

35:33

I mean, it was, it went pear shaped.

35:36

But this year he's a bonafide team

35:39

leader who has galvanized the whole thing

35:41

and motivates like a

35:43

true leader, block shots, changes shots

35:45

from the weak side, rebounding's off

35:47

the charts right now. So

35:49

I love Stifle Tower and having him

35:52

play the way he's playing right now, that's going

35:54

to help him a lot in the playoffs. Yeah.

35:56

And speaking of the influence of Mike Conley, well,

35:59

you think about. what they had at point guard before

36:01

Mike Connelly and D'Angelo Russell and his relationship with Go-Bear.

36:03

He was literally calling them out in press conferences saying

36:05

how he couldn't catch the ball. Well they trade for

36:08

Mike Connelly and all of a sudden a flip switch

36:10

and we're seeing the Rudy Go-Bear that we saw. I

36:12

mean that had to be one of

36:14

the best Timberwolves trades in history. They trade

36:16

for Casel, they got Spreewell and a whole

36:18

bunch but the impact of Mike Connelly and

36:20

what he's done to Go-Bear and the Timberwolves

36:22

offense and the maturity level that he added

36:24

to the roster has just been insane. Yeah

36:27

well you know one thing that

36:29

and they lost that

36:31

game to Charlotte. Alright now the Hornets

36:34

have beaten the Timberwolves five of the last

36:36

seven times. There are

36:38

teams that sometimes for whatever the reason they

36:40

got this thing against even the good teams.

36:43

Yeah. Unacceptable loss though. Well they jacked around

36:45

with that Washington game too a little bit.

36:47

So what I'm getting at here and you

36:49

know if we got fenced open

36:51

a vein and like you know which is not

36:53

a problem for him he just he'll get straight

36:55

to it. This team

36:58

has a little too much push button to it

37:00

for a team that really hasn't done anything in

37:02

the last 20 some odd year. What I mean

37:04

is they feel like they can push that button

37:06

and just shoot by somebody. Yeah. Just

37:08

beat a bad team and and they've

37:10

gotten caught with that. So

37:13

it's it's a relatively young team in

37:15

certain spots and they're still

37:18

learning but but they can

37:20

beat you in many ways and defensively

37:22

speaking you know when McDaniel's is

37:24

not in foul trouble and he's on point

37:26

and there aren't a lot of picks. There

37:28

aren't many in the league who can get

37:31

around him. Mm-hmm. Yeah.

37:33

Well foul trouble is a

37:35

huge issue for him. I mean if

37:37

he can remain out of foul trouble that's the biggest if

37:39

on the Minnesota's to roll the roster right now because every

37:41

game I pull up the game in

37:44

the third quarter McDaniel's for fouls. You know what there's

37:46

there's one team that I or we haven't mentioned and

37:49

they don't have much on their bench. Like a lot of

37:51

teams don't have a lot on their bench. But

37:54

if Kawhi Leonard is

37:57

healthy and happy in the postseason you

37:59

know Like, why might be nearing the end because of

38:02

all these injuries and everything? He's

38:04

a killer. And, I

38:06

mean, Kawhi is one of the great playoff

38:08

players in the history of the NBA. And

38:11

for anybody who's watched the Clippers of late, and I have,

38:14

it's a different James Harden man. I mean, he's

38:16

not pounding the ball for 15 seconds

38:18

waiting for the pick. It's a

38:20

different Russell Westbrook off the bench. He's

38:23

really accepting of his role. And

38:26

then he got Paul George complimenting Kawhi. But

38:29

these LA Clippers, they're sneakier than people think,

38:31

man. Well, he's the voice of the

38:33

Vikings. He did games for the

38:35

Minnesota Wild. If Alan Horton is gone for a

38:37

game or two, would you fill

38:39

in for the Timberwolves now that they're on

38:41

the KFCN radio network? Rob, that's, you

38:44

know what? You just reminded me that

38:47

Alan invited me to join him for a game.

38:49

I don't know, a quarter a game is the

38:52

analyst or whatever, and I forgot to write back

38:54

to him. Damn. So, thank

38:56

you for reminding me. I

38:58

would fill in for sure if they

39:01

asked me. I've never called an NBA

39:03

game, but I never called NHL games,

39:05

and I know more about the NBA

39:07

than the NHL. And doing those two

39:10

wild games I did a couple of

39:12

years ago from a corner suite for

39:14

Vancouver in Vegas. Holy cow, do I

39:16

have respect for the whole time National

39:19

Hockey League play-by-play guys. You

39:21

just can't come up for air sometimes

39:23

doing those games. It was

39:25

harder than I thought, but what an

39:27

energy trip that was. Yeah, well, I

39:30

produce part of their games for K-fan.

39:32

I go to the Wild studio and

39:34

do part of their games, and Joe,

39:36

the play-by-play voice for the Wild, never

39:38

stops talking. Yeah, he's smart. Yeah,

39:40

he's smart. Yeah, Joe's very smart. I

39:44

really like Joe's call when

39:46

the adversary scores. And

39:49

it's like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and he

39:51

scores. I mean, it's just cool the

39:53

way he does it because I do the same thing

39:55

in the NFL and I just kind of know what

39:57

goes into certain things. And it's,

39:59

you know, Tim here. Paul there, oh

40:01

shoot, rebound and he scores.

40:04

I don't think it's full. Yeah, it really

40:06

takes on the opinions or

40:08

the feelings of the fan base. That's

40:11

the way the fans feel and he scores. They're

40:13

just like this let down, right? Yep.

40:16

And one of the stranger critiques or

40:18

rips or criticisms, I haven't really gotten in

40:20

the last five to ten years but

40:23

it's like Peyton Manning back to

40:25

pass, shakes the shoulders, left fires

40:28

and it's caught by Tim inside the

40:30

ten. Yes. Now, Denver Broncos

40:33

and then people will be like,

40:36

do you have to get so excited when

40:38

the other team scores? That's

40:40

how God wired me. I'm not hoping for the

40:42

other team. It just was a cool play and

40:44

it was Peyton Manning. Ready?

40:47

Omaha. Cool, you

40:49

know? You're right, yeah. Don't forget

40:51

about the ten zillion audibles that he calls

40:53

from the same play. Unbelievable. Oh

40:55

man. You got anything

40:57

else left for me? I mean,

41:01

man, well, thank you for asking

41:03

about my belief in God and

41:06

about my faith and about our

41:09

faith and anybody who heard

41:11

that at the beginning of the podcast and

41:13

if you're mildly interested,

41:16

it's not as hard as

41:18

you think to bring Christ

41:20

into your heart. Praying is

41:23

very important. It's

41:25

reading the Bible is not easy.

41:29

It's quite overwhelming unless

41:31

you try to get your mind and your

41:33

heart into the audience two

41:38

and three thousand years ago where that's

41:41

how they talked. So, from a football

41:43

standpoint, if I'm like right now, so say

41:45

I go back two thousand years, I'm on

41:47

the road to Damascus, Paul is still Saul

41:50

and I'm just chatting with somebody about something

41:52

and I go, you know, that

41:54

skinny post, Brandon Iukran,

41:56

the clock linebacker Jack

41:58

Campbell, flatfoot. that changed

42:00

the whole game. Well, you know, my

42:03

man next to me is gonna be like, what?

42:05

You know, they'd have no idea, but that's

42:08

how we talk now, like in the NFL.

42:10

Well, they, to a certain extent,

42:12

understood what was being written in

42:14

the Bible at that time. And

42:17

their mindset of what the world was like

42:19

at that time is something

42:21

that we can't grasp. So just keep

42:24

that in mind with the

42:26

Lord's Prayer. And then, by the

42:28

way, that's the only place prayer is taught in the

42:30

Bible, in the book of Matthew, when the

42:32

Apostle Peter said to Jesus, teacher, rabbi,

42:34

teaches to pray, and he said, our

42:37

Father art and heaven hallowed be thy name. Just

42:40

remember the thy part of the

42:42

equation, that, you know, living life,

42:45

thy not I, I guess,

42:47

doesn't have to be biblical if you just can't

42:49

get there or God doesn't have you there. But

42:52

a thy not I existence is

42:54

badly needed in the world.

42:56

Just people living for thy

42:58

and not I. And finally,

43:00

you know, a lot of the biblical

43:04

knowledge or scriptural knowledge

43:07

that I have attained in the last five

43:09

years, well, a lot of it I've had to

43:11

be taught. And finding the right types

43:13

of teachers like you, you know, a pastor

43:15

who knows more about the Bible than me.

43:18

And you know, you've probably been

43:20

to seminary and taken thea. I

43:22

graduated with

43:25

a radio broadcasting degree and it was

43:27

one of those God called me into

43:29

a youth pastor situation at our four-year-old

43:31

church. Educated your life to it. Yeah. So,

43:34

you know, don't be

43:36

afraid to seek teachers

43:39

and pray about it. Prayer is very

43:42

prayer in my estimation outside of a

43:44

belief in Christ and a

43:46

recognition of the Trinity when it

43:48

comes to getting to heaven. When it comes to recognizing

43:51

that God

43:56

wrote the Bible for us, not

43:58

to us. And

44:01

when you realize that, you

44:03

know, you get into the Bible and it truly

44:06

is your personal relationship

44:08

with God because He's

44:10

going to reveal things to you in subtle fashion

44:12

that you never knew were coming. You talked about

44:14

it, I felt a lot of them and

44:17

been directed that way. And finally, just

44:20

don't be overwhelmed by the Bible when

44:22

you get into it because there's a

44:25

lot, you know, there's a lot. I

44:27

mean, specifically like from Revelation back to

44:29

the Old Testament and just so many

44:32

things. But, you know, I learned this

44:34

from the late great Dr. Michael

44:37

Heiser, who

44:39

has written books and he's just

44:41

so smart with the Bible. What

44:46

I learned from him in closing is

44:48

there are four profound truths from

44:50

the Bible that obviously are

44:53

key, but it's

44:55

a great starting point, you know, kind of

44:57

like the Bible teaches God wants you to

44:59

know this as a Christian. One,

45:01

God created all

45:03

of this. God

45:06

created everything. Secondly,

45:08

He's the only Creator.

45:11

So like if God were talking, hey, I

45:13

created this and I'm the only

45:15

Creator. Those are two very important

45:17

things. Thirdly, when

45:20

God became man on earth as

45:22

Christ and died on the cross

45:24

for sins that had been or

45:27

taking place or right now or

45:29

will be, that recognizing the significance

45:31

of that sacrifice and everything

45:34

with free and God's will that went into

45:36

it. And then the fourth

45:38

profound truth taught by the Bible, the

45:40

resurrection of Jesus Christ brought the

45:43

Holy Spirit into the world and

45:46

that's guiding us and everything right

45:48

now. So, you

45:50

know, I trust the Bible. Second

45:53

Peter 1 chapter of verses 16 to

45:55

21 has the Apostle

45:58

Peter preaching. to many

46:00

as why he believes in the Bible and

46:02

trusts the Bible. For me,

46:05

there are just too many historical

46:07

accounts that have been accurate over

46:10

the course of two and three

46:12

thousand years with eyewitnesses on top

46:14

of eyewitnesses reporting of supernatural events

46:16

and the historicity of it is

46:18

verified. I got a lot

46:20

of that from Pastor Vodie Baucom who I've heard on

46:22

YouTube and respect a lot. So

46:25

just try to get into it, pray about it,

46:28

and pray again about it, pray to God's will. And

46:32

if and or when the the

46:34

calling happens and you become one

46:37

with Christ God and the Holy Spirit, welcome

46:40

to the best part

46:43

of your lives. Amen.

46:46

Amen to that. Yeah, that's good.

46:48

Yeah, I couldn't tell you this. I mean, it would take me

46:51

too long to tell you the story about how I got called

46:53

in the ministry but graduated with

46:55

a radio degree, got called

46:57

into ministry, still do my radio stuff but part-time

47:00

pastor at our church in the Andover. So Paul,

47:02

I appreciate your kindness and your

47:05

goodness to me over these last few years. We've

47:07

done you know podcasts together about one a

47:09

year for the last who knows how

47:12

long, three, four, five years, something like that.

47:14

And I'm grateful that we've developed this relationship

47:16

that you've shown kindness to me. And

47:18

I remember something he always told me a couple

47:20

years ago. He said, I, Paul, you

47:23

know, just like the Bible, could take

47:26

Timothy under my wing. And

47:28

I've done that. You've done that. So grateful for

47:30

that. So thank you very much. I appreciate you

47:32

taking the time. Thank you, man. And

47:34

I'm here for you. So whether it's March

47:36

10th and Andover, whether you have an LLC

47:38

and you need a little bump, you know,

47:40

because Acts 18 is hitting you,

47:42

you know, where Paul the preacher was like,

47:45

I'm done. This is this is they're all

47:47

over me. I mean, I'm done. And God's

47:49

like you ain't done. Acts 18 is something

47:51

that I share with a lot of pastor

47:53

friends of mine and even even a

47:55

priest friend of mine named father G with whom

47:57

I met for two and a half hours earlier

47:59

this week. Acts 18

48:01

for somebody like you, it's real.

48:04

So if you can't remember it, go back and read

48:06

it when we're done. It's real. I'm

48:08

on the other side of the text or a call. If

48:11

you ever need somebody to remind

48:13

you authentically from their heart, how

48:16

important you are, how much you mean to

48:18

me, and how much you mean to a

48:20

lot of people that you're probably not thinking about right

48:22

now because the last thing the devil wants you to

48:24

do or me to do is to continue what we're

48:26

doing. So I'm here for you.

48:28

And if you ever need a bump with

48:30

that LLC to continue financially or whatever, you

48:32

hit me up, man, I got you. All

48:34

right, appreciate it, Paul. Thank you so much

48:36

for taking the time. And since

48:38

we're referencing Bible verses to each other, Acts 16

48:40

verse 25 to 36, I think it was, the

48:45

Apostle Paul and the prison guard, one of my

48:47

favorite stories in the Bible. Oh

48:49

man, I appreciate it. Well, thank you, Paul. Thank you

48:51

for taking the time. Yep, and

48:53

for everybody who watched and listened, God bless you

48:55

and thank you very much. You

48:59

still thinking job change in the new year?

49:01
