1:04

Go to Hani University dot com if you want

1:06

information about getting golf lessons from me at

1:09

the golf practice in Highland

1:11

Park, Illinois. That is my great,

1:14

great location for teaching golf. I

1:16

love it. It is a phenomenal

1:18

facility, track

1:21

man simulators, and

1:24

I'm learning how to use all that stuff. It's been

1:26

great. It is a super

1:28

plashed indoors, short game area, sand

1:31

traps, putting greens. I

1:33

love the indoor teaching. I can't

1:35

tell you how much better it is. And I'm teaching

1:37

outdoors too, but the indoors

1:40

is way, way,

1:42

way better. It's a better student experience,

1:45

better learning environment, and it is

1:48

absolutely fantastic. So if you're interested in golf

1:50

lesson, that's where you go. Hanny University dot com.

1:53

And I'm also teaching in Scottsdale.

1:56

I've been given some lessons out at Coronado

1:59

Golf Course. Matter of, we did a

2:01

big clinic out there

2:04

for Performance Golf, which I do all my teaching

2:06

videos with Performance goff. They're fantastic

2:09

by the way, performance golf. But we

2:11

did a whole deal. We had like twenty

2:13

five slicers out to Coronado

2:15

Golf Course and we fixed them all and it

2:18

was great using my Fix

2:22

your Slice Forever slice

2:25

program and it was a great,

2:28

great day out there. That place

2:30

is awesome. That reminds me of Tin

2:32

Cup. If you've ever seen a movie Tym Cup.

2:35

That's the driving range at Coronado Golf

2:37

Course. It's awesome. That's where the real golfers

2:40

hang out. And we met them all out there one day

2:42

and had had a great, great

2:44

time. So Hayniuniversity dot

2:46

com. Though you can register my free instructional

2:48

videos. They go out on a weekly basis, so if

2:50

you need some help with your golf game, that's where you can get

2:52

it. All right, a little

2:55

more Master's talk. I

2:57

want to talk about Greg

3:00

Norman and

3:02

the fact that he showed up at Augusta

3:06

and he bought a ticket because I was listening

3:08

to that. I was listening to the Serious XM,

3:10

the BG Tour radio,

3:13

and I was listening to these guys

3:16

talking about of course, you know they're negative,

3:18

negative Nelly on anything Greg

3:20

Norman, anything l I V. Just

3:22

as negative Nelly as you can be, which

3:25

is understandable. You know, they've been doing

3:27

this this routine for a while.

3:29

But they were talking about Greg

3:32

Norman buying a ticket. See,

3:34

Norman typically has gone

3:37

to the Masters until he started running l

3:39

I V and he wasn't invited anymore.

3:41

And the reason they kind of it

3:43

is that the

3:45

Masters would would always invite

3:49

like past great champions.

3:52

Maybe not of the Masters, but but Norman

3:54

was a great drum Norman was number one in the world forever.

3:57

I mean, he was a great, great player and had

3:59

great Master's moments, even though he never won

4:01

the Master. The famously lost it to Nick Feldo

4:03

the one year on the eighteenth hole. But Norman

4:07

had a lot of great mess and he would get invited

4:09

as a guest. Well, when he started running l IV,

4:12

they took his ticket away. And

4:14

he wanted to go to the Masters

4:16

because he's got thirteen guys from

4:18

an LIV tour that are competing

4:21

in the Masters this last year

4:24

and he wants to go support them, and

4:26

they wouldn't.

4:29

I guess they wouldn't. I don't know. I mean, I don't know the whole

4:31

story, but I guess they wouldn't get a ticket. So

4:34

he's got so he goes and he buys

4:36

one to get tickets for

4:38

Gussie. The way you get a ticket is

4:41

you get on this lottery system once you got

4:43

no chance of ever of ever

4:45

getting a ticket. It doesn't seem like although, by

4:47

the way, those galleries,

4:49

well they don't call them galleries. They call them,

4:52

well they call him patrons. Patrons

4:54

Okay, their galleries,

4:56

Okay, those galleries have never

4:58

been bigger. I mean, that was one of my

5:01

one of my takeaways from the Masters

5:03

this year was how big the galleries

5:05

were. I mean, could not believe how many. I mean, they

5:07

are putting more and more and more people.

5:09

I don't know why they wouldn't like put up some more stands.

5:11

People would just love to be there. Anywhere you could

5:13

be there, you

5:16

know, put to put them in the stands and

5:18

then they don't have to, you know, have as

5:20

many on the ground they can handle them out there.

5:22

But there's more people there than there's ever been. They don't tell

5:24

you how many tickets they sell, but they tell it

5:26

sell a lot more than they used to. I can just tell you

5:28

that tell you that much. But they

5:30

didn't have any available for for

5:33

Greg Norman, he had to buy a ticket on

5:35

the open market. So on serious text time, their questioning

5:37

whether he actually did that. You know, why and

5:39

why did he do that? Because he had thirteen players

5:42

playing and somebody

5:44

should have been able to just give them a ticket,

5:46

Like, of those thirteen players, somebody should

5:48

just give my ticket. Well, hell me. It just got

5:51

me thinking about this story. See

5:53

this is and this is this is a great story.

5:55

This is one of my favorite stories.

5:58

You know, because a Hank, what you give me

6:00

a good story about about the masters

6:02

about I'm going to give you a good story right now. This

6:05

is what you call a good swear.

6:07

You're going to get a kick out of this story. So

6:10

Norman, they said, why

6:13

didn't he just get a ticket from one of his players.

6:16

Well, first off, they're not that easy

6:18

to come by. You only if you're

6:20

a player at the Masters, you only get

6:22

a certain amount of tickets. You get it

6:24

for family and and you know, Frank,

6:27

you gotta put you gotta you gotta like

6:29

tell them who the tickets for. They don't just

6:31

give you tickets. See, they

6:34

don't give you tickets because they don't want

6:36

you going out there and selling those tickets. That's

6:38

what they don't want to have happened. Matter fact,

6:40

Like that's a that's a big no

6:42

no. So they'll give you tickets,

6:45

but you got to put somebody's name on it. I've

6:47

never had a ticket. I've never in all the years

6:49

I ever went to Augusta, I never had I never had

6:51

a ticket, never had a ticket with my name out,

6:54

not one time. To never have a ticket on my name out,

6:56

not one time. Be fraid

6:58

I had people at a Gusta they hank of you ever need anything,

7:00

let me know, and like how about a ticket,

7:03

you know, like with my name on it so I could go like

7:05

sit underneath the oak tree

7:07

that they all talk about and have a you

7:10

know, iced tea lemonade in the

7:12

in the the under the umbrella there.

7:14

But no, I never got a ticket. I stood

7:17

in line every year at

7:19

the little booth. They got a little booth

7:21

there and if you're a PG member, you

7:24

can go up there and you

7:27

show your ID card and

7:29

your PG membership card and

7:31

you stand in that line and they'll give you

7:33

a ticket for the day, for the

7:35

day, and then the next morning you can

7:38

go. You go stand in that line again, big big

7:40

line. It's not a short line. You go stand that big

7:42

line and you get your ticket

7:44

again, and they interrogate you, and you

7:46

know, like you know, you think you're

7:49

you know, it's it's like TSA, you know, you're

7:51

getting on an airplane here, you know. I mean, it's like

7:54

they want to know everything, you know,

7:56

you know, I mean it's like they're checking your ID, like

7:58

is this a fake? Is this a fake?

8:01

I got the Andy Frayne usher guys

8:03

out there, is this a fake?

8:05

Uh?

8:05

A fake driver's license? Is this a fake

8:08

car? They look at you, you know, they're looking at you.

8:10

Is that really you? You know that picture

8:12

doesn't quite look like you. Are you sure that's you?

8:14

Yeah, it's me? And uh And

8:17

they look at that and then they

8:19

give you that ticket and you think, oh my god, I

8:21

got a ticket. I just got a ticket. Oh isn't this

8:23

great? I got a ticket?

8:25

Uh? One year? One year. I didn't

8:29

want to have to stand that line. I asked as Tiger,

8:31

I said, you got any more ticket? He hands me a ticket.

8:33

It's like, but it was made out to one

8:35

of his fans. It was Earl Woods Junior. I said,

8:37

he said, here, just use this one. I'm like, man,

8:40

but I don't. I don't. I said,

8:42

I don't think I'm gonna I

8:44

don't think I'm going to pass as Earl Woods

8:46

Junior. I mean, I don't think that's gonna I

8:49

don't think. I don't think it's gonna work. I mean,

8:52

I mean, I mean nah.

8:54

I mean you know what, I'm gonna go back and stand the line.

8:56

I don't want to get in trouble here, because boy boy,

8:59

that's the last thing you want to do is get

9:01

in trouble at Augusta and Ashdoll. I don't

9:03

want to get trouble. I'll go stand in my PGA line.

9:06

Hopefully I'll be you know, they don't open up that line

9:08

till like eight o'clock so hopefully, you know, and Tiger

9:10

wants to tee off at seven point thirty and

9:12

you know, and practice range at

9:14

seven thirty, and I'm like, well,

9:17

I'll be there as soon as I can. I got to go stand

9:19

in line over here and get my get

9:21

my day pass, and then I'll do it again

9:23

tomorrow, and I'll do it again the next day, and I'll do

9:25

it again the next day, and then I'll do again the next day. I'll

9:27

do it seven days in a row. And when I do it seven days in

9:29

a row, to look at me like I've never been there before

9:31

on the seventh day and I'm like, I'm the same

9:34

guy, same guy that was here the first six days.

9:36

But anyway, I remember

9:38

this one year. This

9:40

was nineteen I know the exact year.

9:42

It was nineteen ninety ninety. See

9:44

Marco Mera won the Masters in nineteen ninety

9:46

eight, and in nineteen

9:49

ninety nine we

9:52

were going to go to the Masters again because I went

9:54

to the Masters every year with Mark, and then I went

9:56

to the Masters every year when I coach Tiger, and

9:58

I've been to a lot of Masters. What's the greatest

10:00

terminus, There's not There's there's no there's

10:03

no tournament that compares to the Masters.

10:06

There's the Masters and everything

10:09

else. It's not even debatable.

10:12

It is the way it is. I've been to them all. It's

10:14

the best, not not even clothes. So

10:17

one year I kind of

10:19

wanted a ticket, you know, I never had a ticket.

10:21

I'd like a ticket, you know, one that I could Maybe

10:24

I could even go in the clubhouse

10:27

and uh, get one of those hamburgers

10:29

everybody talks about, or you

10:31

know, sit underneath, just sit inside the ropes,

10:34

you know, and sit down there. There's some nice

10:36

looking chairs there and a long

10:38

walk. Maybe, you know, when we're done with the day,

10:40

I could sit in there and have me a diet

10:42

coke or an iced tea lemonade or something.

10:45

I could sit there, I don't think. I mean, I'd love to have a

10:47

pass. And my

10:50

wife wanted to go too,

10:53

but Markomera only got you only got

10:55

like six tickets. Six tickets,

10:58

and Mark had his family going, and he said,

11:00

you know what, you know what, Mark's the nicest. Mark

11:02

is the nicest guy in the world. And

11:05

he's a defending champion, you know, and

11:07

uh, he's as nice as you can get. They're

11:10

a nicer person you know, they don't meet the nicer

11:13

person than Marco. So Mark says,

11:15

you know what I'm going to write. I'm going to write

11:17

the chairman and ask if I

11:19

could have an extra ticket. So

11:23

Mark writes this letter to

11:26

the chairman. The chairman at the

11:28

time was Hoody Johnson. He

11:30

writes this letter. He writes this letter to Hoody

11:33

Johnson, and he

11:35

you know, dear man, I saw, you know, Mark showed

11:38

me the letter. You know, I said, dear mister, you

11:40

know, mister Johnson, you know, I

11:43

was wondering if it would be possible to get

11:46

two extra tickets, one

11:48

for my coach, Hank Haney and

11:50

one for his why my wife at the times name

11:53

was Jonie. You know. He said

11:55

it very nicely, because it would it be possible if I

11:57

could get two extra tickets, one for

11:59

my coach Haney and one for his wife

12:02

Jony. They'd love to come to the Master's with me this

12:04

same And it was a nice letter,

12:07

you know, And I said, well, let's see what we get

12:09

for a responsor, you know. And Mark's Mark's waiting

12:11

to wait, and he gets a letter back. He gets a he

12:13

gets a letter I saw. I

12:16

asks, I saw the letter.

12:18

Mark showed me the letter. He gets

12:20

the letter back from Hoodie Johnson,

12:23

Okay, chairman at the time. He was chairman

12:25

from nineteen ninety eight to two thousand and

12:27

six. And here's here's

12:29

what I saw the letter. Here's what's that's it's

12:31

a dear Mark. After

12:34

all, you do

12:36

have the normal allotment

12:38

of tickets. He points out to Mark that Mark,

12:41

you have the normal allotment of tickets. You're

12:43

not allowed to buy more. He just just what you

12:45

guys, says Mark. You have the normal allotment

12:47

of tickets, so we won't be able to give

12:49

you any more. But he said, I might offer this

12:51

suggestion. And here's the suggestion. In the offers,

12:54

he said, if mister Haney

12:56

is a PGA member, he

12:59

can get in with his PGA tour card

13:01

if he just shows it at the booth every

13:04

morning. He can show to the booth. I knew

13:07

that, Okay. I kind of want a regular ticket

13:09

because you can't go anywhere with that PGA ticket. But that's

13:11

all right, you know, okay, he said,

13:13

And and he puts an ad and this is what

13:15

the letter said, he said, And if

13:18

he leaves his wife Jane, her

13:21

name wasn't Jane. It was Joni. But anyway, he said,

13:23

if he leaves his wife Jane at home,

13:26

you will have just the right amount of

13:28

tickets. I

13:32

saw the letter. I mean, seriously, seriously,

13:35

that's what he wrote. He wrote,

13:38

mister Haney can get in with his PGA

13:41

tour card, and if he leaves his wife home,

13:43

you'll have just the right amount of tickets. And

13:47

Mark looked at me and he goes, I guess we're not getting

13:49

any tickets. I said, no, it doesn't sound like we're

13:51

getting eight tickets. I said, we'll have to figure out a different

13:53

way. I've kind of figured it out a different way. But anyway,

13:58

when I was listening to those fells is on

14:00

serious exam doubting whether

14:03

Greg Norman could get

14:05

a ticket, or saying

14:07

that why didn't he just get one from one of

14:09

his thirteen players?

14:11

You know why, because whenever anybody

14:14

goes to the Masters, it is a coveted

14:16

ticket. Even if you are a player,

14:18

even if you're a defending champion, you aren't

14:20

getting a bunch of extra tickets and

14:23

you probably got them all spoken for, and

14:25

they probably just didn't they didn't

14:27

have a bunch of them or they didn't have one of them.

14:29

They could dish to Greg Norman anybody's way,

14:31

kid, they couldn't come up with a ticket. And

14:33

the answer to that is no,

14:36

you cannot come up with a ticket because

14:39

if you're going to the Masters, you

14:41

have already given your six tickets

14:43

away. Whoever it is that's going

14:45

to that Masters has more than six

14:47

people they want to give those tickets to. And

14:50

I can promise you there isn't

14:52

any of them just sitting there at the house that

14:55

anybody could use today, because

14:58

they got people that want use them in Greg

15:00

Norman ended up buying his ticket, uh

15:03

to this year's Masters on

15:05

the open market. Who knows what he paid. He probably

15:08

paid a good good penny and uh

15:10

and he went to watches his But

15:12

that was one of my that's one of my favorite

15:14

favorite stories ever. It

15:18

shows you that Augusta is.

15:21

It's different. It's different, and it's

15:23

different, you know what. It's

15:25

different in many ways, but in uh,

15:29

in most ways and in the ways

15:31

related to the tournament, it's

15:34

different better, there's no doubt. Now, I don't

15:36

know about that whole ticket situation. I don't know

15:38

if that's a different better, But

15:41

you know what, it's

15:44

there, it's there, it's their rules,

15:47

it's their place, it's their rules, and

15:49

and that's the way they do it. I don't know if they still

15:51

do it like that. I'm pretty much I'm pretty sure

15:53

they do, you know, because when you kind of you

15:56

kind of look at those guys, they kind

15:58

of they kind of look like they probably still do it

16:00

that way, you know, they kind of it's kind of the same

16:03

program that it's always always been there.

16:05

But that was that was absolutely

16:08

great. Just just leave her at

16:10

home. You'll have just to write them out.

16:15

Why don't you just they couldn't just say

16:17

no, nope, can't have any

16:19

extra tickets. No, no, let me offer

16:21

this suggestion. Just leave your wife at

16:23

home and you'll have just to write them out. Oh my god,

16:26

never forget it. Never forget great great

16:29

memory. I mean, I've had a lot of great

16:31

memories at Augusta. That was

16:33

one of them right there. That was pretty good right there. I'm

16:35

gonna, you know what, I got a couple other memories

16:37

too. I'm going to share those on some future podcasts

16:40

as well. Somebody asked me the other day, what was my

16:42

favorite my favorite

16:45

Tiger Woods story? And

16:48
