George Williams II, shares the story of his late father George Williams I, WWWII Chaplin. George tells of his Dad’s efforts to challenge racial injustice back in 1949. He talks about the way his father’s words, and confrontation with an angry mob ultimately changed their family’s life.


George M. Williams is a retired professor of Asian religions. He taught courses about religion in India, China, and Japan, and became extensively involved in each culture. After retiring from California State University Chico, he moved to Hawai‘i to volunteer in a Culture Center there.

Williams has worked with Kumu Glen Kila and has volunteered as the Ohana archivist for Kanenuiakea, the Indigenous Hawaiian faith and practice of the Waianae Coast.

Hanai-ed as Hawaiian, he has served in various offices on the Board of Koa Ike Foundation. Its purpose is to protect, promote, and work for the preservation of Hawaiian culture, especially its deep spiritual values
