Is it just me or does everyone on this podcast sound like they’re on drugs?? It was hard to follow with them sounding high af. :/
I just can't get past the female host constantly pronouncing Dennis Rader's name Dennis "Radar" like the weather tracking technology. Even the slightest bit of research would let you know that's not how you pronounce his name. After the 10th time she said his name that way it just got really annoying and I couldn't get through that episode. I can't take you seriously if you can't even get the most basic details right.
I've never heard of another murder/execution like that before. That stuff is supposed to happen in movies, not real life. Just insane.
The reporting of the actual crime was good and I would've given it four stars. But as they now start reporting on the actual trial, they have fallen way behind. A verdict has already been given on George Wagner on 30th November 2022, and as of 5th April 2023, the podcast still has yet to report on this and it feels like they are just dragging this out for the sake of a podcast.
This podcast is great! I loved it. I listened to it twice so far. The information is all there. Podcast told very well.
Absolute garbage! Reports on hill billy speculation and not the facts. Too many ads!
The subject of the first season, and I’m sure the second will be no different, is compelling. But recordings of courtroom testimony doesn’t translate well. It’s incredibly hard to hear so I end up skipping it. And could Courtney Armstrong sound more bored and dull? I doubt it. I think she’s trying to sound matter of fact but it’s not working. Lastly, please coach Jeff on how to TELL the story, not ASK it. Everything says sounds like a question?
The story is amazing. The telling is a bit repetitive with entire episodes are useless (like talking to anonymous distant relatives). But the two stars taken off are for the unnecessary, distracting, overdramatic, downright annoying background noises throughout each episode. I understand they are meant to increase the drama or something, but after a while the overproduction is all I hear.
It's amazing how the team behind this series, which has such rich material to work with, has created such a boring and irrelevant podcast. They're 4 or 5 months behind real-time, they repeat things over and over and over, and they add almost no original thought to the episodes. It feels like they got bored with the story and are just mailing it in. I recommend "Cincinnati's Crime Vault" as a great alternative; it's everything this one isn't: current, succinct, interesting
It's a grim story and the aftermath of such a tragic and deadly event is never easy to dissect, especially when things kick into overdrive and are happening in real-time on the podcast. My criticisms are that the podcast is saturated with overly dramatic music which detracts at points from the narrative. At other times it's clunky and seems like a hodge-podge of interviews smashed together. There's also a lot of speculation and almost drip-feeding of the sort of small town gossip which thrives in places like Pike County.
A twist on Romeo & Juliet vs Hatfields & McCoys. The carnage is incredible but sadly true. The podcast is matter-of-fact and very in-depth.
