If we could love ourselves more and step
0:02
into who we truly are, we stop being
0:04
so defensive. We stop having to dig our
0:06
heels in the ground and puff up our
0:08
chest. We can literally show up at the
0:10
table and listen to other people with these
0:13
tools. Welcome to the Influencer Podcast. I'm your
0:15
host, Julie Solomon. If you
0:17
found yourself here, it means you are ready
0:19
to unleash the powerful visionary that lives inside
0:21
you, turning you into
0:23
an authentic leader who creates
0:25
influence, impact, and change. Let's
0:28
get started. Hello, my friends, and
0:30
welcome back to another episode of
0:32
the Influencer Podcast. And today, the
0:35
episode is filled with some valuable
0:37
insights thanks to the amazing Kelsey
0:39
Murphy. Kelsey is chatting with us
0:41
today a lot about coaching and
0:44
entrepreneurship, but most importantly, the importance
0:46
of taking small, consistent actions to
0:48
achieve your goals and, of course,
0:50
exactly how to do that. So
0:53
you are really going to resonate
0:55
not only with Kelsey's story, but
0:57
really how she gives you expert
0:59
advice on how to take those consistent
1:01
action steps that you want to take. This
1:04
is a jam-packed episode. I really loved listening
1:06
to what she had to say. I know
1:08
that I took a ton of notes myself.
1:10
And speaking of consistent action and taking action,
1:12
I have a brand new five-day boot camp
1:15
that I want to invite you to. It's
1:17
starting just in a couple of weeks on
1:19
February 14th. Yes, Valentine's Day.
1:21
You can go to juliesolomon.net/boot camp to get
1:23
all the details to this. Again, it's completely
1:25
free. But the reason why I want to
1:28
share this with you today is because it's
1:30
really about taking those small action steps.
1:33
Kelsey's going to really kick it off for us
1:35
nicely today on the podcast. But if you're wanting
1:37
to deepen any of the concepts that you hear
1:39
today, definitely go check out what this brand building
1:42
boot camp is going to be all about. The
1:44
promise of this boot camp is to help you
1:46
re-clarify your brand strategy, remove that overwhelm when it
1:48
comes to content creation so you can actually create
1:51
a business that is sustainable. I know
1:53
that so many of you wrestle with that, especially at
1:55
the beginning of the year. You feel like you don't
1:57
have the time. You don't know the next.
2:00
best step to take or you just
2:02
need someone to hand you an actionable
2:04
game plan. Well, my friends, that is
2:06
what the brand building bootcamp is going
2:08
to be all about. You can go
2:10
to juliesalmon.net/bootcamp again to learn more and
2:12
save your seat. This is completely live.
2:14
It's completely free. And we're going to
2:16
be getting down into the nitty gritty.
2:18
I'm going to be walking you through
2:20
each day of this how to clarify
2:22
your brand strategy and message to stand
2:24
out how to remove that overwhelm of
2:26
content creation so you can take focus
2:28
focused action and most importantly, how
2:30
to strengthen the foundation of what you've already
2:32
built or what you're in the process of
2:35
building. So you can monetize your brand and
2:37
scale sustainably by the end of the bootcamp,
2:39
you're going to have a clear direction on
2:41
your content strategy for the rest of the
2:43
year, you're also going to have tools to
2:45
increase your social media presence following an engagement
2:48
and an easy to implement brand growth strategy
2:50
that you can put into action immediately. Now
2:52
I want to say I did a version
2:54
of this bootcamp back last fall. And I
2:56
want to tell you what Stacey is sees
2:58
who's a digital creator. She was part of the
3:00
bootcamp last time and she said to me, Julie,
3:03
I just wanted to say that since
3:05
your free bootcamp, I learned what my
3:07
unique value was, I figured
3:09
out how I wanted to niche down. And
3:11
only two weeks later, I've grown by almost
3:13
3000 followers and
3:15
my engagement is out the roof. I
3:18
just hit the 10,000 mark.
3:20
I'm already seeing crazy proof that it
3:22
works. And my friends, it does work.
3:24
So if Stacey can do it, I
3:27
know you can. And that's why I'm
3:29
going to be giving this all to
3:31
you for free during our fun five
3:33
days together. Again, go to Julie solomon.net/bootcamp.
3:35
If you want to learn more and
3:38
save your seat. And with that, let's
3:40
dive in with the amazing Kelsey Murphy
3:42
today. Thank you so much for having
3:44
me. This is such an honor. I'm so
3:46
excited. Yes. So I know that
3:48
you have done a lot of amazing
3:50
things when it comes to your work
3:52
and your life you have been featured
3:54
in amazing publications like Forbes Business Insider,
3:56
you do life and business coaching, you've
3:58
worked with huge brands like Lauren
4:01
Conrad among so many others that I
4:03
know our listeners know. But
4:05
I know that this just didn't like happen, right?
4:07
You just didn't wake up one day and have
4:09
all of this. And
4:11
I know it just doesn't also just happen
4:14
to people. So I would love to hear
4:16
a little bit about your journey and what
4:18
led you to doing the incredible work that
4:20
you do in this world today. Yeah, absolutely.
4:23
And man, wouldn't it be so easy if
4:25
I just woke up one day? Right? That
4:28
was like all in front of my face. I
4:31
woke up like this. I don't know what to say. Oh
4:34
gosh. Yeah, no, definitely it was a journey.
4:36
It was for sure a journey. And I
4:38
didn't start out kind of thinking I was
4:40
going to run a business at all. I'm
4:43
a little bit of an introvert and contrary
4:45
to popular beliefs, because I have this podcast
4:47
where I've had all these amazing guests on,
4:50
but I enjoy it because I get to
4:53
sit in my jammies and talk, you know,
4:55
have these deep, meaningful conversations through a microphone,
4:57
you know, like this one and just get
4:59
really deep and vulnerable and full searchy. And
5:01
we get to kind of record them and put
5:03
them out there for people that appreciate that. So
5:06
I never envisioned doing something to
5:08
the scale of what I'm doing
5:11
now. I was always kind of
5:13
just an emotional child, an emotional
5:15
adolescent, and an emotional adult, quite
5:17
frankly. You know, I started in
5:19
the world of advertising, but even
5:21
before that, when I went to
5:23
school, I went to school for
5:25
agricultural business, you know, and only
5:27
because I wanted to get into
5:29
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I was like, how
5:31
can I get in there? They were like
5:33
agricultural business. I was like, okay, got it. And I got
5:35
in. Yeah, I can get
5:38
in there. And I immediately thought,
5:40
oh, I'll just transfer into like business and marketing
5:42
for no reason other than that just sounded,
5:44
sounded good at the time. And
5:46
of course I get in and one of my
5:48
very first classes is dairy science. And your project
5:51
is to go adopt a little baby calves and
5:53
choose what they're going to eat and how you're
5:55
going to feed them for the whole quarter. And
5:57
I was like, yeah, I'm never leaving this major.
6:00
This is amazing! I
6:02
want to have a kid now. I can
6:04
just have this cat. Exactly! And they're so
6:06
sweet and they don't talk back to you.
6:09
It's like so fun. So
6:11
I am doing something this year that
6:13
I have never done before and I
6:15
want you to join me for it.
6:17
It is a free five-day brand building
6:20
bootcamp. Now all you have to do
6:22
is go to juliesolomon.net/bootcamp to get the
6:24
details. But I want to let you
6:26
know that if you are someone who
6:29
is already saying, you don't
6:31
have the time this year, you don't know
6:33
the best next step to take, or you
6:35
just need someone to hand you an actionable
6:37
game plan, this brand building bootcamp is for
6:40
you. It is time to re-clarify your
6:42
brand strategy, remove content, overwhelm, and create
6:44
a sustainable business. And this is what
6:47
the brand building bootcamp is a lot
6:49
about. Why I'm inviting you to this
6:51
free virtual event, I'm going to be
6:54
showing you how to solidify your strategy
6:56
so that this year is finally when
6:58
you solidify your audience and revenue without
7:00
being drowned out by the noise of
7:03
every online marketer telling you that their
7:05
program are there, this or that will
7:07
solve your problems. During the free five-day
7:10
brand building bootcamp, you will clarify your brand
7:12
strategy and message, remove the overwhelm of content
7:14
creation so you can monetize your brand and
7:16
scale sustainably. At the end of our time
7:19
together, you're going to have a clear direction
7:21
on your content strategy for the rest of
7:23
the year, tools to increase your social media
7:25
presence, and an easy to implement brand-go-th strategy
7:27
that you can put into action immediately. I
7:30
did share some of these strategies last year
7:32
in a small session that I did, and
7:34
there was an incredible woman, Stacey Asis, who
7:36
is a digital creator, and this is what
7:38
she said about what I'm sharing with you
7:41
during this bootcamp. She said, Julie, I just
7:43
wanted to say that since your free trainings,
7:45
I have learned my unique value, figured out
7:47
how I wanted to niche down, and only
7:50
two weeks later, I have grown by almost
7:52
3,000 followers, and my
7:54
engagement is out the roof. Just hit
7:56
the 10K mark, I am already seeing
7:58
crazy proof that it works. I
8:00
mean, do we need to hear
8:03
anything more? Just go to juliesolemon.net/bootcamp
8:05
to save your free seat and
8:07
do it soon because the bootcamp
8:10
starts on February 14th. Yes,
8:12
Valentine's Day, my friends, and you will only be
8:14
able to get into it for the next couple
8:16
of weeks. So don't miss out. I
8:18
stayed in this agricultural major and I
8:21
loved it from like a very personal
8:23
point of view, but I never envisioned
8:25
doing anything with it professionally. I went
8:27
in and got a job at the
8:29
ground, ground level, making no money as an
8:31
assistant in advertising to just test it out.
8:33
Again, I showed up for the interview and
8:36
everyone seemed really nice and you could bring your
8:38
dog to work and everyone was in jeans and
8:40
I was like, this is my place. And
8:44
then I did that and I
8:46
slowly climbed the ranks. And to
8:48
be honest, I fell in love
8:50
there with this idea of creativity
8:52
and innovation and connecting these brilliant
8:54
business minds, these big CEOs
8:56
like I was working on accounts ended up being
8:58
the director for Nintendo and Elizabeth Arden
9:00
and GoPro. And you work
9:02
with these presidents of these companies
9:05
who are having conversations about
9:07
running businesses, these big giant corporate
9:09
businesses, and then you're putting them
9:12
together with people that are these
9:14
like insane creative minds. You
9:17
bring these two worlds together and then
9:19
they create this art that can go
9:21
out into the world and
9:23
connect with people. And
9:25
it was a beautiful agency that I worked
9:27
for and they really believed in those kinds
9:29
of statements and that good work. And the
9:32
people I worked with were amazing. So I
9:34
spent many, many years there, kind of
9:36
climbed the ranks and ended up being
9:38
one of the youngest promoted directors. And
9:41
I hustled my buns off and thought this
9:43
was it. I had spent so many years
9:45
doing it. And if I get really, really
9:47
honest with myself, and I've thought about this
9:50
a lot over the last couple of years
9:52
and having to talk through this, I probably
9:54
knew at year one or two this was
9:56
not the job for me. You just kind
9:58
of get that gut. feeling like this
10:00
seems really thin and I can be really
10:03
successful and I make a really good many
10:05
but do I feel super proud of this?
10:07
Like I'm doing something that feels really fulfilling
10:09
or impactful and then you say no but
10:12
I mean how often do people get to
10:14
do that right? It feels like this teeny
10:16
tiny percentage of the world that gets to
10:18
do these quote unquote impactful things and at
10:20
that time I thought most of them are
10:22
in non-profit you know and they're complaining because
10:24
they're like it's not that great of a
10:26
world you're not making that much money like
10:28
you really have to find your sweet spot
10:30
in non-profits as well and I think what
10:33
I've learned is that it's like that with
10:35
any kind of business you know it's like
10:37
that with any kind of industry whether it's
10:39
non-profit or advertising or you know being
10:41
an entrepreneur is you can have a great
10:43
soulful business or you cannot you know like
10:45
you can work with really soulful honest transparent
10:48
beautiful people or you cannot you know like
10:50
you kind of have to find your people
10:52
and find that spot so I knew it
10:55
wasn't for me I knew that but I
10:57
was very confused because the people were great
10:59
the work was great the money was great
11:01
and I just decided that I needed to
11:04
start looking outward clearly first looking inward and
11:06
figuring out what it was about me that
11:08
I needed to tap into and then find
11:10
you know a place where I could show up
11:13
in the world and not feel like something was
11:15
off all the time you know not feel like
11:17
I was kind of shaking it to make it
11:19
not feel like I was in a room with
11:21
people that were having conversations about a project we
11:24
were working on and they all really loved it
11:26
they were going to go home that night and
11:28
research it they were so passionate about it and
11:30
I was like going to go home and like listen to
11:32
like a Tony Robbins podcast I'm
11:35
like what you guys they're all going to go
11:37
home and try to figure out how we can
11:39
win over this like commercial director for our next
11:41
project like no like I'm gonna go home and
11:44
take a personality quiz because those are the things
11:46
that I was really obsessed with at the time
11:48
you know and I kind of just felt like
11:50
you know that's just how it went I felt
11:53
like most people probably feel that way about their
11:55
job and then the more I talk to people
11:57
the more I really did some digging I realized
12:00
There are a lot of people out there
12:02
that are doing jobs that they actually love.
12:04
Like they want to do them in the
12:06
late hours. You know, they want to do
12:08
them on the weekends. And I thought, man,
12:10
I wonder what that would look like for
12:12
me. So then I, you know, much dabbling
12:14
and dipping my toes in many different waters.
12:17
I wound up in London of all places
12:19
one day. My husband and I had decided
12:21
we were going to sell all of our
12:23
stuff in our little tiny apartment in San
12:25
Francisco. We sold all of our stuff. Booked
12:28
one way tickets out to Australia and went
12:30
on this like six months adventure and
12:32
just kind of jumped from place
12:34
to place. And we ended up in London and
12:36
I'd never been to London and I was so
12:39
excited to go. And we had all these plans,
12:41
you know, to hop on the red bus and
12:43
tour and everything. And it was my husband's like
12:45
favorite city and he was so excited to show
12:47
me everything. And then the day before I like
12:50
saw online this like free, like life coaching seminar,
12:52
I was like, I think I'm going to try
12:54
to go to this. And my husband was like,
12:56
what? No, this is a
12:59
bad Kelsey. This is a bad call. Like you're
13:01
going to miss out on London. This is like
13:03
a three day seminar. Like I don't even know
13:05
what area town it's in. Like don't, don't, this
13:07
is a bad choice. Don't do it. And for
13:10
whatever reason, I was like, listen,
13:12
I got to, something about this sounds interesting
13:14
to me and I just got to show
13:16
up. And worst case scenario is it's totally
13:18
crazy. I go for an hour and then
13:20
I'll peace out and I'll come meet you.
13:22
And he was like, okay. So I like
13:24
woke up super early that day at like
13:27
5am, like tried to take public transportation, got
13:29
lost, like walked into this kind of shady
13:31
area of town. Did this really rinky dink
13:33
hotel, walked in and I was just like,
13:35
what? This is, he was right. He was
13:38
right. This is a terrible idea. I have
13:40
a bad idea. Abort,
13:42
abort. And I
13:45
sat down and I sat down next to
13:47
what was a social work as psychologist. And
13:49
I think they had
13:51
the exact same feeling as I did. We
13:53
were all very uncomfortable sitting in this, this
13:55
room. And then they started talking and this
13:57
person got up there and started talking about
13:59
what. coaching was and how it was important
14:01
and how it helped us to show up
14:04
in the world as kind of the humans
14:06
that we wanted to be. And from
14:08
setting that example, how that was going to
14:10
help make the world a better place and
14:13
how you could do it with all these
14:15
different specialties and backgrounds and help basically help
14:17
humans be better humans professionally and
14:19
personally. And it was like, it was
14:21
like, I just like melted into their arms.
14:23
I was like, Oh, tell me more, tell
14:25
me more. And everyone around me was just
14:27
feeling it too. And I remember this sense
14:30
of feeling like, Oh my gosh, even if
14:32
this is weird, even if this is, is
14:34
not feasible, there's something about this that I'm
14:36
in love with. There's something about this that
14:38
feels so right for who I am and
14:40
what I care about. And so
14:42
it was then that I decided I was going
14:44
to be some sort of coach. And then, you
14:46
know, when I went on and I became obsessed
14:49
with getting my, you know, international credentials and
14:51
I had to take all these different trainings
14:53
and I had to dabble in, am I
14:55
going to do like positive and motivational psychology?
14:57
Am I going to do business and marketing
14:59
coaching? Am I going to, you know, like
15:01
what area is going to be my specialty?
15:03
And I did a lot of stuff, relationships
15:05
and behavioral change. I did a lot of
15:07
stuff when it comes to advertising and marketing,
15:09
because that was my background. Um, I did
15:11
a lot of stuff on communication, everything from
15:13
how you communicate to your audience in a
15:16
really authentic way to how you communicate with
15:18
your husband in a really authentic way. And,
15:20
um, it just turned out that my
15:22
blend was a little bit of life
15:24
and a little bit of business and
15:26
a very specific kind of woman, like
15:28
a very specific kind of woman that
15:30
felt a little bit introverted, but was
15:33
an extrovert as well. Like they had it
15:35
in them, but they really needed some quiet
15:37
time to settle down. You know, it was
15:39
usually a highly emotional, empathetic person that really
15:41
wanted to connect with people, um, but didn't
15:43
always need to shout it from the rooftops,
15:45
you know, and there was just this kind
15:48
of sweet spot of a friend, of a
15:50
soulful friend, a soulful person, a soulful client
15:52
that I really connected with. And as soon
15:54
as I started to find those clients, it
15:56
was like, my business just took off from
15:58
everything from people like that. that worked
16:00
at Twitter and Facebook that wanted me
16:02
to come in and share everything with their
16:04
group, you know, two different publications that wanted
16:07
me to write for them and send these
16:09
incredible, you know, like Marie Forleo who called
16:11
me up and asked me to come coach
16:13
her B-School students and I
16:15
just started working with these amazing people and
16:18
we all had kind of that common thread
16:20
of just being these emotional, empathetic creatures that
16:22
had a little ambition that wanted to do
16:24
something more out in the world and like
16:26
make a really good living doing it and
16:28
so that's kind of how it started for
16:30
me and then it just like, it
16:32
just like took off from there. I want to
16:35
kind of shift gears a moment because I think
16:37
that what this revelation for you or at least
16:39
what I hear you, what I'm
16:41
hearing from you is that really
16:43
identifying all of this for yourself,
16:46
owning it, embracing it, nurturing
16:48
it, it allows you to take up space
16:50
in the world and to really empower yourself
16:53
in a way that maybe perhaps before
16:55
was kind of unimaginable. Can you walk
16:57
through that process of what it means
16:59
to be empowered and what it means
17:01
for you to take up space in the
17:03
world? Yeah, ooh. Well you're
17:05
gonna give me a bunch of goosebumps I feel
17:07
like. That is a good,
17:09
good question. I never envisioned being this
17:12
like person on stage that was kind
17:14
of like shouting a message out to the
17:16
entire world. I always
17:18
envisioned myself having this, so
17:21
as after I could get my head
17:23
wrapped around the idea of having a
17:25
business, I envisioned it to be a
17:27
very small business, you know. One where
17:29
I was quiet, one where it was
17:31
kind of my own corner of the
17:33
internet, one where it was very deep
17:35
and soulful conversations, very connective and that
17:37
didn't really translate into this idea of
17:39
like taking up space in the world,
17:41
right? Because even when you say that
17:43
for me, I had this physical reaction
17:45
that's like almost resisting it. I'm like,
17:47
ah, no, I'm not gonna, no, that
17:49
sounds really big and scary, you know, which
17:51
is so interesting to even feel that as
17:53
you say it, you know, because the
17:56
idea that I am making an impact
17:58
on the world is still kind
18:00
of, I would say
18:03
it's a contrast to what I
18:05
want, wanted to do. And the
18:07
fact that I wanted to have deep
18:09
meaningful conversations, you know, I wanted to connect
18:11
with people so deep and so, in
18:14
such a soulful way. And so for
18:16
me, that really meant hearing people and
18:18
hearing what people needed and what people
18:20
wanted, not just from like a client
18:23
standpoint, but from, you know,
18:25
all my relationships in my life, you know, from
18:27
my husband to my, my mother
18:29
to my kid, you know, and like hearing
18:31
what it was that they were truly trying
18:33
to say, you know, like not with their
18:35
words and their body, but like be able
18:38
to ask them the questions and really
18:40
dig into, you know, what they
18:42
wanted. And so what I learned throughout that
18:44
process of teaching myself how to do that
18:46
and, and teaching myself, not only
18:49
just the tools of how to do it,
18:51
but where my holdups were, you know, what
18:53
my biases were, what, what, what I was
18:55
holding on to that was changing the way
18:57
I was hearing other people, you know, from my
18:59
opinion of how you run a business to my
19:01
opinion of how you're supposed to parent a
19:04
kid, you know, I had to do a lot
19:06
of soul searching still to say, I have to
19:08
do a lot of soul searching, you know, as
19:10
to what my own opinions are and how that
19:12
shows up in the way that I listen and
19:14
hear people and what they actually need. So
19:17
for a while there, I really didn't want
19:19
to take up a lot of space in
19:21
the world. And then after I started having
19:23
more of these conversations with women and people running
19:25
businesses and especially women and empowering
19:27
them to step into who they
19:29
truly are and create and craft
19:31
a business model that worked for
19:33
them and the lifestyle that they wanted,
19:35
I realized they started sharing that information.
19:37
I started that it's like my, when
19:39
my referrals started to come in and
19:41
the referrals that were coming in were
19:43
saying, Hey, so-and-so said, you literally like
19:45
changed your life and helped her make,
19:48
you know, six more figures and all
19:50
of these things. And I realized that
19:52
that messaging out there that you can
19:54
be who you are, you can step
19:56
into who you are and be super
19:58
successful or work part-time hours or stay
20:00
at home with your kids and
20:02
have this epic business. Like those
20:04
messages were empowering people to love
20:06
themselves more. And when we love
20:08
ourselves more, we can show up
20:10
and hear other people in the
20:12
world with different opinions. And, and
20:14
especially right now with what's going on in our country,
20:16
I just feel like if we could love ourselves
20:19
more and step into who we truly are,
20:21
we stop being so defensive. We stop having
20:23
to dig our heels in the ground and
20:25
puff up our chests. We can literally show
20:27
up at the table and listen to other
20:29
people with these tools. And so once like
20:31
that started to get bigger in my like
20:33
brain and heart and in my business, I
20:35
started to realize like, wow, like this could
20:37
be a message out in the world, like
20:39
these small things, whether it's just talking about
20:41
the way we talk to our kids or
20:43
the way that we, you know, structure our
20:45
websites, whatever it is, this idea that you
20:48
could really embrace what you want, what you
20:50
value, and then show up in the world
20:52
as a better person. Like that for me,
20:54
I think was probably the most empowering things
20:56
that made me feel like, you know, this
20:58
is, I kind of found my space in
21:00
the world, you know? Hey
21:03
friends, as we bid farewell to another incredible
21:05
year and gear up for a fresh start,
21:07
I wanted to share a game changer that
21:09
has been pivotal in my journey this year.

21:50

22:15
Trust me, it's a game changer and
22:17
you're going to be able to elevate
22:19
your game because your success is worth
22:21
it. Since
22:24
I am all about habits and routines and goals
22:26
for the new year, let's talk about healthy eating.
22:28
Now, obviously this is a hot topic for so
22:31
many of us right now because I know
22:33
that so many people are looking to revamp their
22:35
eating habits in the new year. But I think
22:37
so often we fall short because of a few
22:39
things. One, it can be really time consuming to
22:42
cook fresh meals every day, especially as a parent.
22:44
Two, it can be time consuming and difficult
22:46
to prepare and go to the grocery store and
22:48
just have all the ingredients that we need for
22:50
the week. And so if you're anything like me,
22:53
what tends to happen is that we fall
22:55
back on old habits of just ordering out
22:57
all of our meals or snacking around meals
22:59
or just grabbing whatever we find in a
23:01
pantry and not really giving our bodies the
23:04
nourishment that we need. But A
23:06
really simple solution that I have found for
23:08
the new year is HelloFresh. Whether you want
23:10
to save money, eat better, or stress less,
23:12
HelloFresh is here to help you do
23:15
all three. Imagine having farm fresh
23:17
ingredients and chef crafted recipes delivered
23:19
to your doorstep. about
23:23
HelloFresh is that everything comes pre-portioned right to
23:26
your doorstep, which is a huge perk for
23:28
me because of the time savings and there's
23:30
less hassle and less wasted food. Another perk
23:32
with me because with two small kids in
23:35
the house, it is so easy for us
23:37
to waste food and that drives me crazy.
23:39
And even if there are nights where you
23:41
barely have any time to cook, what you
23:44
can do is check out their lineup of
23:46
15 minute recipes, which are amazing. These are
23:48
great for those nights when you're just trying
23:50
to catch up on all the duties and
23:53
you just need a healthy but quick option.
23:55
I made a really good chicken dish the
23:57
other night and they also have some good
23:59
vegan options. options. My husband is
24:01
also gluten free, so they have
24:03
something for everybody regardless of what
24:05
your dietary preferences may be and
24:08
this is huge for so many
24:10
of us as I know. Now
24:12
here is the big news. HelloFresh
24:14
understands the breakfast game and how
24:16
important getting protein first thing in
24:18
the morning is. So HelloFresh is
24:21
giving all subscribers free breakfast for
24:23
life. Yes, you heard it right.

24:32
of breakfast and getting that protein
24:34
fix in the morning. And the
24:36
fact that I just don't have
24:38
to think about it just made
24:40
HelloFresh a no brainer for me
24:42
this year. So that means you
24:44
will enjoy a totally free breakfast
24:46
item with every single HelloFresh delivery.
24:48

25:13
can't believe that it has taken me 30
25:16
years to discover the incredible relief
25:18
provided by today's podcast sponsor, Jovi.
25:20
When it comes to tackling the
25:22
pain from period cramps, Jovi is
25:24
my go-to solution. Why? Because it's
25:27
a 100% drug-free
25:29
patch providing not only relief from
25:31
menstrual cramps but so much more.
25:33

25:37
pain from virtually anywhere you're feeling

25:41

25:43
is that you purchase Jovi once
25:45
and enjoy an entire year of
25:48
uninterrupted release. Now I love Jovi
25:50
because I can just place the
25:52

25:54
without the hassle of refills or
25:56
wires and I personally know the
25:58
founder of Jovi. Jovi, who is
26:01
not only passionate about creating innovative
26:03
solutions, but it's also a fierce
26:05
advocate for female founders and creators.
26:07
Jovi has helped tens of thousands
26:09
of women thrive through every day
26:11
of their cycles. If you want
26:14
to become one of them, head
26:16

26:21

26:24

26:28
40% off and make sure you use my
26:30
promo code influencer so they know that I
26:33
sent you. I
26:35
love all of that. I want to know how
26:37
has all of this now brought you to where
26:39
you are today with your business? How do you
26:43
use all of this and how you show
26:45
up and serve every day? And
26:47
how do you use this to cultivate a
26:49
greater impact and influence not
26:51
only in your business but in the world around you?
26:54
Oh yeah, that's a good question. I feel like
26:56
there could be layers there. I think one
26:58
thing is definitely the podcast that I started.
27:01
It's the Whiskey and Work podcast. I
27:03
feel like for me, it's a podcast not
27:05
just about how you can find a
27:08
work you love and build
27:10
a business you love, but it's really about
27:12
how you find who you are
27:14
and build a life you
27:16
love. So I think for
27:19
me, having the confidence that people
27:21
did want to hear these conversations,
27:24
they were having these conversations
27:26
behind closed doors already and
27:28
through hearing stories, real world
27:30
stories of other people doing
27:32
these things and the highs
27:34
and lows of their journey,
27:38
that for me felt like, oh man, this
27:40
is a really important message. I was getting
27:42
a lot of feedback that people wanted to
27:44
hear that more. When
27:46
I started my podcast, I was like, I have no clue
27:48
what I'm doing at all. Right
27:52
now I'm recording this podcast from the inside
27:54
of my closet. This is where
27:56
I started my podcast reporting and I just
27:58
kind of hud about it. settled in my
28:00
teeny tiny little closet and I hit play
28:02
and I started recording some thoughts that I
28:04
had. And then I had some of these
28:06
really amazing clients and friends and that had
28:08
these great businesses. And I was like, why
28:10
don't I bring you on and you can
28:12
tell that, you know how that started. And
28:15
so those things started to get
28:17
bigger and bigger. And I think
28:19
that's because we're all just craving
28:21
real world stories. You know, we're
28:23
craving these really
28:26
positive, vulnerable conversations
28:28
out in the world because I don't know
28:30
that that's really where the focus is right now.
28:32
Right now it's very easy to pick up a
28:35
lot of negative media. And so to
28:37
have these positive voices and stories and not just
28:39
like positive, like, you know, like Pollyanna
28:41
positive, like positive in like, Hey, we
28:44
can all do hard things. And like,
28:46
here's a story about how someone else
28:48
suffered and persevered and what they created
28:50
through it. That just started to become
28:53
this really, really special
28:55
vehicle. And still right
28:57
now it's probably my favorite part
28:59
of the day is talking with
29:02
people and being able to record
29:04
it and just having these really
29:06
fluid, vulnerable conversations. I think that's
29:08
really special. And that's kind of like, that's
29:10
like the big focus for me
29:12
that and, you know, really helping
29:15
out Marie with her d-school stuff.
29:17
And I dive in and I
29:20
love being able to help her out
29:22
by coaching all of the people through
29:24
that program with her and watching them
29:26
get these sparks with their businesses and
29:28
feeling this overwhelming sense of clarity and
29:30
confidence and, and then having
29:32
hearing that their personal stories about how
29:34
that's like affecting their marriage or how
29:36
that's affecting how they show up for
29:39
their kids. Those are like
29:41
the coolest parts of like where I'm at
29:43
with my business right now, I think. Hmm.
29:46
And how much do you think that
29:48
I know that you've mentioned d-school a
29:50
couple of times and Marie and just
29:52
kind of other, other female leaders, if
29:54
you will, just really showing up and
29:56
shining, taking up their divine rights base
29:58
and owning it. How much is having
30:00
life like-minded people, women
30:03
around you, important, do
30:05
you think, to the overall growth
30:08
and really the overall fruition of
30:10
attaining your dreams and goals? Coming
30:14
even from an introvert, I will say
30:16
it is one of the most important
30:18
things for me personally that I ever
30:21
discovered to help me
30:23
feel more connected to who
30:25
I was, more connected to
30:27
other humans and also
30:29
more educated on what other people are doing
30:31
and how they're doing it. For me,
30:33
first of all, I don't think I'd
30:35
survive without my circle of
30:38
business best friends that I can hop on
30:40
boxer with or send them text notes being
30:43
like, hey, today I feel like I have
30:45
no clue what I'm doing. How
30:47
are you feeling today? And just having that
30:50
banter back and forth that they're like, remember,
30:52
you're awesome. What you're doing is important and
30:54
people want to hear that and it's going
30:56
to help them show up as better humans.
30:59
That's the message I need to remind myself
31:01
when I have hard days. From
31:04
a support standpoint, I literally
31:06
don't think I would enjoy my job if I
31:08
didn't have that support. I don't know that I
31:10
would be as nice to my husband or as
31:13
present with my kid if I didn't have those
31:15
connections to help me center
31:18
myself and remind me that
31:20
there are other people doing hard things and to
31:22
give me perspective and to remind me there are
31:24
other people suffering out there. I
31:27
think I really need that supportive aspect. Also
31:30
having women that are showing up in
31:32
that leadership role, which I think is
31:34
so amazing and interesting that you brought
31:37
up and really stepping into that space
31:39
and raising their hand and saying yes
31:41
because it's always scary. It's always scary to
31:43
step into that space and show up there. That
31:46
for me, I wouldn't be here if
31:48
those people didn't do that. For Marie,
31:50
and I always tell her this and
31:52
we joke and laugh
31:54
at it because the other day we were, not
31:56
the other day, but a little while ago, we
31:58
went and saw a movie. And we
32:01
were sitting there watching the Mr.
32:03
Rogers documentary and crying, just crying
32:05
sobbing our faces off like the
32:08
ugly cry. And we got out
32:10
of the movie and we just
32:12
started laughing because we just looked
32:14
horrible. And we went and we
32:16
were having dinner and having wine.
32:18
And we were talking about this
32:20
idea, this idea of really
32:23
knowing who you are and showing up.
32:25
And that's kind of what Mr. Rogers
32:28
did, right? He like had this message
32:30
that not everybody was saying out loud,
32:32
that was a little bit different, but it
32:34
was about true compassion and true love. And
32:36
he was showing up in the world sometimes
32:39
when they didn't want him to and
32:41
putting that out there. And what he did
32:43
by doing that was show us a model,
32:45
show us a way that it actually can
32:47
work because he went on to have all
32:50
this epic success. And I think there are
32:52
so many people out there that want to
32:54
show up with a model of compassion and
32:56
love and kind of fighting the good
32:58
fight, but they don't think they can do that to
33:00
have a successful business, right? They don't think
33:03
that they can do that and still be
33:05
successful. And he was able to do that.
33:07
And I think that's also something Marie's been
33:09
able to do because that's the cool thing
33:11
about coming on for V school and being
33:13
part of being a friend of hers and
33:16
also being involved with her in her business
33:18
is I get to see what she's really
33:20
like behind the scenes. Like when it all
33:22
hits the fan and then things go sideways,
33:24
I get to see how she responds, how
33:26
she responds internally to her team. And
33:29
she just is such
33:32
an inspiration in the way that she speaks
33:34
to people. She leads with
33:36
true compassion. She, I mean, she
33:38
walks her walk. She is not
33:40
just a mouthpiece telling you that
33:42
you have to lead with generosity.
33:45
You have to hear people. You
33:47
have to want to be creating
33:49
something that's bigger for the world.
33:51
Otherwise you're going to get lost.
33:53
And she does that every single
33:55
day in her business. And for
33:57
me to see a leader, a
34:00
a female leader who's making millions
34:02
and millions and millions of dollars
34:04
be able to still lead their
34:07
business from such a generous Compassionate
34:10
thoughtful place for me
34:12
that gives me a model to follow as
34:14
well, you know that shows me there's actual
34:16
real living proof out there That you can
34:18
create this kind of business model, you know
34:21
And let's talk about that business model and how you've
34:23
created it for yourself I know we've mentioned a lot
34:26
of that but I would love to dive a little
34:28
bit into What's happening
34:30
now? How do you show up?
34:32
How do you serve? I know that you mentioned the
34:34
podcast I would love to to hear more about that
34:36
from you and in other ways that you show up
34:38
and serve and walk alongside clients
34:41
and customers Absolutely. So my focus
34:43
right now is very much in
34:46
in helping people primarily
34:49
women with their businesses, right like
34:51
I I Usually
34:53
tell people that I I help I help
34:55
people teach I teach them to
34:58
take their businesses a little bit more
35:00
seriously and to get the right
35:02
systems in place that work for them emotionally
35:04
and Professionally in a way that creates
35:07
not only a business but a lifestyle
35:09
that they are so pumped on You
35:11
know, I'm teaching them how to build
35:13
out their teams and really delegate in
35:16
big and small ways I think there's
35:18
certain things that we never want to
35:20
delegate and there's certain things that we
35:22
learn that as we delegate them as we
35:24
bring On team members to take on these tiny
35:27
small roles We allow ourselves more
35:29
time and space to be a visionary and
35:31
to take a bigger step forward So, you
35:33
know I'm I'm teaching people how to focus
35:35
on these bigger visions that are more meaningful
35:37
because I think in the first couple years
35:39
of business You have your own
35:41
goals like you have this is what I want to
35:43
do. This is how many clients I want This is
35:45
the amount of income I want to achieve and then
35:47
when you hit that when you realize oh man I
35:50
can do that. There's opportunity out there You almost have
35:52
this kind of like come to Jesus moment where
35:54
you're like now is this really what I want
35:56
now that I know That I can do this.
35:59
What do? I what's the bigger
36:01
vision for what I want to do and
36:03
that's kind of like where I usually am
36:05
meeting people. They know that they can be
36:07
successful but I'm stepping in to
36:09
have that conversation about like what's the bigger
36:11
vision here and how do we build that
36:14
out and how do we grow that. So
36:16
I'm working a lot with
36:18
one-on-one clients right now and
36:20
besides that I coach Marie.
36:22
So Marie's course is
36:25
clearly like world-renowned and one
36:27
of the best courses out there and
36:29
I do a small mastermind. So for
36:31
people that are like I don't have
36:33
a business but I want to get
36:36
the business foundations going I have
36:38
a separate group for that and the
36:40
reason I do a mastermind group for that and
36:42
I stopped kind of doing a lot of one-on-one
36:44
coaching for that is because I feel like when
36:47
you're in your first couple years of business finding
36:49
that circle, finding your crew, you know finding your
36:51
people that you can send those text messages back
36:53
and forth with that's really hard. Like that's a
36:55
new skill you have to teach yourself how to
36:57
put yourself out there and be like yeah I'm
36:59
starting a business like I don't really know what
37:02
I'm doing yet but I want to and I
37:04
want to learn and I want to contribute and
37:06
let's all help each other out. Like that is
37:08
a vulnerable conversation to have so I like to
37:10
kind of create a bit of a platform with
37:12
the mastermind and I do really cool like one
37:14
day retreat where I invite everyone to San Diego.
37:17
We do one day where we sit and we
37:19
kind of look at our personal goals and our
37:21
work goals and you know we drink some champagne
37:23
and we talk about those things and have very
37:25
soulful conversations about how we want to show up
37:27
you know. So it's right now for me it's
37:30
a lot of podcasting, it's a lot of connecting
37:32
with people. I'll go in I do a little
37:34
bit of public speaking here and there when I
37:36
have some companies call me up and ask me
37:38
to come in and do that but I
37:40
think my focus really is on the
37:43
podcast and my business clients. And I love that you
37:45
mentioned how it's kind of like where you bring it
37:47
all together and that's kind of I don't want to
37:49
say anchor if you will but that's kind of like
37:51
the focal point of how you can bring all of
37:54
the different passions and the things together because I think
37:56
a lot of times people feel like they have to
37:58
do all the things but you You can have
38:01
a few things that you're really passionate about that
38:03
you really want to do and then just really
38:05
kind of anchor it down to this one thing,
38:07
which I'm obviously partial to because I love podcasting
38:10
as well. I think
38:12
it's a great medium and platform. Before we
38:14
wrap this up, to kind of tell us
38:16
some things that you are most proud to
38:18
bring to fruition this year and that you're
38:20
most excited about. So
38:24
many things. I
38:26
am really excited right now about
38:30
our one day retreat that's going to happen
38:32
and end of April and I
38:34
might just be excited about that right now because
38:37
it's a big d school bonus and I'm working
38:39
on this big web page with my designer and
38:41
so I'm like in it, you know, like early
38:43
in the morning, like, what's it going to be
38:45
like? Are we going to have champagne or we
38:47
can have a chocolate tasting, you know, like when
38:50
you do events, you get to get excited about
38:52
those kinds of things. So I'm really excited about
38:54
that retreat. I've done it many, many years in
38:56
the past and it's always something
38:58
that I have people request like, hey,
39:00
can you do one one day
39:03
retreat where we all could meet together in
39:05
person? And so and the way
39:08
I do my retreats are very, I don't
39:10
want to say weird, but they're
39:12
very different. They're not like big hotel
39:14
treats like they're very intimate treats like
39:16
it will be in a beautiful home
39:19
somewhere, you know, like where we all.
39:22
Are kind of sitting around on a
39:24
couch together or, you know, kind of
39:26
snuggled up by a fire, all having
39:28
these intimate conversations. There's always tears. There's
39:31
always sharing. And then there's always like
39:33
getting inspired with like goal setting around kind
39:35
of like how you want to be
39:37
with your family or how you want to be with,
39:40
you know, when you're dating to like
39:42
then how you want to build your business
39:44
and like what are the most important things
39:47
for you to focus on and what does
39:49
that mean that you need to do tomorrow
39:51
morning? So it's a really, really cool thing.
39:53
I think so from like just like a
39:55
personal excitement area. I'm probably most excited about
39:57
that right now. And I think it's. as
40:00
far as things that I want to bring to fruition
40:02
this year. For me personally, I
40:04
have been, business has been so
40:07
beautiful and amazing and incredible this
40:09
last year or two and it's
40:12
also been really busy, like really, really
40:15
busy and I am learning
40:18
how to be very intentional with my
40:20
time, with my husband, with my kiddo,
40:22
with myself, with my clients and what
40:25
I've realized is that I really have
40:27
to structure out my days and my
40:29
mornings and my weeks and clearly that's
40:31
something that we all know and I
40:34
think we get to a sweet spot
40:36
of it and we structure it all
40:38
out, but then things change. You go
40:40
from having an infant to a two
40:43
and a half year old, so while
40:46
you get more sleep, now they're potty training and
40:48
there's always a changing thing or a same thing
40:50
with business. You think you get in a sweet
40:52
spot with business, but then all of a sudden
40:55
there are these new opportunities that you have to
40:57
hustle but you want to do. So
41:00
for me, it's about continuing to
41:02
always grow and move forward towards
41:04
something that feels very, very special
41:07
and powerful for me, but also
41:09
while taking a moment to be
41:11
intentional about my time. I'm
41:14
literally looking at my calendar right now and
41:16
there's a little eye call on there from
41:19
Monday morning that says like, canna bear,
41:21
trash trucks, and like laughing. I literally
41:23
have to be that intentional with my
41:25
time so that I remember I will
41:28
sit with my daughter, McKenna, and
41:30
we will watch the trash trucks and we
41:33
will laugh together because when I look back
41:35
on the last year or so, those are
41:37
some of my very favorite memories. So it's
41:39
just that for me, being really intentional with
41:41
my time, so I'm crafting and creating a
41:44
week that I really love. So I love that
41:46
and I hope that those listening to just take that
41:48
as a great reminder and just a great little takeaway
41:50
that they can to Just kind
41:52
of carry along with them for the rest of the
41:54
week and the month, hopefully to instill some of that
41:57
in there. I Love that.! Before We wrap this up
41:59
and. There are damn how
42:01
can we stocky questions going and
42:03
have one last question for you.
42:05
What does influence mean to you?
42:07
Influence means showing up in a
42:10
way that you. Shop. Head
42:12
of and. I'm. Hesitant to say
42:14
the word proud because there's a lot of
42:16
negative connotation to that. But for me, whenever
42:18
I was talking about my business, whenever I
42:21
wanted to look back on my day in
42:23
the way treated my daughter, I wanted to
42:25
feel proud of myself. I wanted to so
42:27
proud that I showed up in a way
42:29
that I wanted to sell. I think of
42:31
the word influence. I think showing up in
42:34
the world and away your really proud. I
42:36
love that. that's awesome. Thank you so much
42:38

43:40

43:42
Why was keen work name. you know
43:44
it's so funny it started out am i
43:46
was sitting literally on the floor in my
43:48
living room and it was when my coaching
43:50
practice got really book that and i thought
43:53
which awake at scale my business and talk
43:55
to more people at once like all start
43:57
a face that group page in this is
43:59
like five years ago. So I
44:01
started the Facebook group page and
44:04
I needed a name for it. And I was
44:06
literally looking at a bottle of whiskey. I'm
44:08
a big whiskey drinker. I was
44:10
happy with my little sister and was like, she
44:13
was like, well, you want something that,
44:15
that is, it's about having fun, you
44:17
know, not taking yourself too seriously. Like
44:19
don't take life too seriously. Yes, we're
44:22
going to work, but we can also whiskey at the
44:24
same time and have deep meaningful conversations through it. And
44:26
I was like, that's exactly what I want to do.
44:28
I want to have whiskey. I want to talk about
44:30
work and I want to do it in this really
44:32
meaningful way. And she was like, yeah, or
44:35
you could call it Beyonce babies. And I was
44:37
like, I'm going to go with whiskey and work.
44:39
There it is. You just helped me make the
44:41
decision. So that is so great. Well,
44:45
thank you so much for coming on. I loved
44:47
our conversation. Um, and I just
44:49
can't wait to share it with everyone that's listening and,
44:51
and just to have it warm up their day in
44:53
their lives too. Oh, thanks so much
44:55
for having me on Julie. And I just, uh, I can't
44:58
say enough good things about what you're
45:00
doing and really appreciate the conversations
45:02
you're cultivating and all the good work that
45:04
you're doing. So thank you. Of course. And
45:07
there you have it, my friends. How amazing is Kelsey?
45:09
And how amazing was that episode? I want to hear
45:11
from you. I want to know your biggest takeaways, what
45:13
really resonated with you the most. And there's a couple
45:15
of ways that you can let me know that one
45:18
is by going to Instagram, screenshotting today's
45:20
episode, tagging me at Joel Solomon and
45:23
letting me know what your biggest takeaway
45:25
was. Another quick and easy way
45:27
that I personally would be so appreciative of
45:29
is if you would leave a rating and
45:31
review of this podcast On iTunes or
45:33
Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. All You've
45:35
got to do is go and click that rate
45:38
button and just leave a quick review. And Again,
45:40
this could be a takeaway, a feedback, or even
45:42
if there's something that you want to hear on
45:44
this podcast that you haven't yet. Leave that in
45:46
there because my team and I, we go in
45:48
there, we read that we get your feedback and
45:50
it actually helps us plan and prepare the content
45:52
