Lee Smith, The Federalist, The Tablet, in re: Jamal Khashoggi. Turkey is a major source of information on what may have occurred inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. I counsel extreme caution about the whole story. We’ve seen very little evidence so far. The only video evidence we've seen yet is of Khashoggi walking in to the consulate.

Relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia: Saudis have a running fight with Qatar, another member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and Erdogan has sided with Qatar. Since we have no evidence of Khashoggi’s death, let's call it the Khashoggi Affair.

It's being used in Washington by the pro-Iran Obama-era echo chamber, and many of the same figures who were working on selling the Iran deal, marketing this to American officials, our elected representatives, and the American public – the same people in the press, the think-tank expert community, and people like John Brennan, [say that] this shows that we've mistakenly grown too close to Saudi Arabia and now it's time to break relations with Saudis, to punish Riyadh severely: to the benefit of Iran.

Do we have an explanation why he [apparently very close to the Muslim Brotherhood] was working in the center of the United States next to the Trump Administation with a green card? For me, the essential information is that he worked very closely with the chief of Saudi intelligence. When people like that are given green cards, it raises certain questions. Where exactly does this person fit in the conception of the State Department and Department of Homeland Security? That’s one issue; the other issue is that he was friends with Osama bin Laden.
