Welcome
0:05
to the Kelly Roadshow, the place
0:07
for no off easy to implement
0:09
twenty minute or less business
0:12
and leadership lessons to help you
0:14
build a sustainable business that scales.
0:17
lead with integrity and create
0:19
a lasting legacy. I'm
0:21
Kelly Rhodes, former NFL cheerleader and
0:23
Fortune five hundred executive, turn to
0:26
eight at your entrepreneur. Let's
0:28
get started.
0:29
I get the question very
0:32
often from different people in different
0:35
ways asking me
0:37
how I deal with mom guilt and
0:40
how how I feel about the fact that
0:42
I'm so busy and
0:44
have so much attention and focus on
0:46
running my companies, knowing that I
0:48
have an eight year old daughter.
0:50
And I always share the
0:52
question and the answer
0:55
in
0:57
a way that I think is something
0:59
that gives us some food for a thought. And
1:02
that is, what role do
1:04
you believe that you're meant to play
1:07
in your child's life? And
1:09
I think that's a really important question
1:12
to ask. Not just parent, not
1:14
just mom or dad, what
1:16
role are you meant to play? I
1:19
share for myself that
1:21
I believe that Madison is destined for
1:23
greatness, and I believe
1:25
one of my primary functions
1:27
in her life
1:29
is to allow her
1:31
to see and believe that
1:33
anything is possible. I
1:36
see one of my most important roles
1:38
in her life as being
1:40
someone that every single day
1:43
wakes up and chases my dreams and
1:45
believes that I am capable
1:48
of achieving them. And how
1:50
has this impacted Madison? Well,
1:52
Madison is eight years old. And
1:55
the thing that we hear from our friends,
1:57
parents all the time and that we hear
1:59
when she goes on playdates and
2:02
goes to parties and and spends time even
2:04
from her teachers at school, is that
2:06
she's a leader and that
2:08
she sets the example. that
2:11
she speaks articular articulately,
2:13
that she has
2:15
a very strong sense of self
2:18
and confidence. and
2:19
self worth. That's at eight.
2:21
Madison
2:22
came home last
2:25
week and I was on a call and she
2:27
was like waiting so patiently for me to
2:29
get off a call and I was trying to wrap up and
2:31
she's standing there and, you know, she
2:33
didn't tell me, you know, she was just like, I
2:35
you know, waiting and waiting, you know, by my
2:37
side for me to wrap up the call, and I finally
2:39
wrapped up the call, and she said, mom,
2:42
I got the third grade solo. So
2:45
she had win an audition for
2:48
the solo in the musical that
2:52
the
2:52
kids are all putting on for the holidays
2:54
at her school. Now, we didn't
2:56
suggest that she do this. We didn't push her
2:58
to do this. She just
3:01
had the certainty and confidence to do that.
3:03
She wanted the solo. She went for the
3:05
solo. She got the solo. Right?
3:08
And so do I feel mom
3:10
guilt about her seeing me
3:12
work hard, be focused,
3:15
commit to my dreams every single day?
3:17
Ech No. Because I am
3:20
already seeing that
3:22
translate into her mindset, her
3:24
attitude, and her behaviors. in
3:26
life. And because I
3:28
know that a huge
3:30
part of my role and I play a lot of roles in
3:32
Madison's life, like, I'm I'm the person
3:35
that is really managing and
3:37
and teaching her about faith and about
3:39
god and spirituality and introducing
3:41
her to prayer. Right? There's a lot
3:43
of roles that I play. There's a lot of roles that Billy
3:46
plays, and we play different roles for
3:48
her. Right? But
3:50
my role above all else is
3:52
to at the bar extraordinarily high
3:55
in terms of what she thinks is
3:57
possible and available to her
3:59
and then to demonstrate trait how
4:01
to live above the line every single
4:03
day so that when
4:05
she begins to have those goals
4:07
and those dreams for her own life,
4:10
that she understands the behavior
4:12
that will be required to
4:14
make them possible.
4:19
I've shared on many occasions that
4:21
we get podcast sponsorship
4:24
pitches.
4:24
every single week.
4:27
And for
4:27
years now, we've declined every single
4:30
one of them. But recently I came
4:32
across an opportunity to share a
4:34
resource, a team and just an
4:36
overall incredible human being
4:38
with you that I
4:40
felt was important to take action
4:42
on. And today
4:44
I'm excited to have this episode
4:47
sponsored by my friend, Heather.
4:49
show then. Now for
4:51
each and every one of us, we know how much
4:53
energy impacts our
4:56
results. I know you wanna feel
4:58
energized. Encouraged. You
5:00
wanna increase yourself trust. You wanna
5:02
feel all the afters. Right?
5:04
And so I am bringing
5:06
to you a special resource today by
5:09
Heather Chauvin, author of Dine to be a
5:11
good mother and the wildly
5:13
pop your podcast emotionally uncomfortable
5:16
to bring you this episode.
5:19
In order to feel all of those
5:21
afters, first need to get clear
5:23
on me before. So Heather has created
5:25
an energy finder quiz, which is gonna
5:27
help you to identify where
5:29
to focus so that you can conquer
5:31
your energy leaks and step into becoming
5:34
the best version of
5:36
you. If you are ready to
5:38
take that control your time and
5:40
your energy, you can go to heathershow then
5:42
dot com forward slash kelly.
5:45
That's heathershow then dot com forward
5:47
slash kelly to take the quiz. And
5:49
when you do, you're gonna get some amazing resources
5:51
that are gonna help you to better leverage
5:53
everything that you are learning and hearing
5:56
here on the show. and to step
5:58
into that next version of you.
5:59
So go ahead and take action
6:02
now.
6:06
I
6:11
share this with all of you because
6:14
I get these questions all the
6:16
time And I think there are
6:18
so many parents that
6:20
really wrestle, you know, really have this
6:22
internal turmoil about
6:25
how to be great parents, but
6:27
also how to keep up with the demands
6:29
of being an entrepreneur and business
6:32
owner. And it is an extraordinary
6:35
balance. It is so difficult
6:38
to both be the best
6:40
business leader you can be and
6:42
be an all in parent. and I'm not going
6:44
to downplay that at all. I
6:47
have to work hard at it. I have to work
6:49
hard at knowing when
6:51
it's time to really shut off the business.
6:54
And I've shared, you know, I have to many
6:56
times leave my phone at home if I'm doing something
6:58
important or meaningful with my family because
7:00
otherwise I know that I will be distracted.
7:03
Right? You have to, you know, know
7:05
what those triggers are for yourself and you have
7:07
to self manage to allow
7:09
yourself to know what really matters in
7:11
any given moment and to put yourself
7:13
in the space of being present to
7:15
that. But I
7:17
just want you all to know and I
7:19
want you to think differently about
7:22
the role that you play in your children's
7:25
lives above and beyond
7:27
being their parent teaching
7:29
them right and wrong, you know, showing them,
7:31
you know, how to get through their homework or
7:33
how to deal with social issues at school.
7:35
I really want you to look at your business
7:37
and your leadership in your business
7:40
as a a full education
7:42
in and of itself. And I wanna
7:44
challenge you to look for the ways that you
7:46
can get your children involved. How
7:49
can you get them to see up close
7:51
and personally what it is
7:53
that you do, not that they're gonna wanna
7:55
be like you, not that they're gonna wanna do
7:57
what you do. I have no
7:59
disillusioned about the fact that Madison
8:01
is gonna go and do something
8:03
I'm sure completely different
8:06
than what I do. And I am not by
8:08
any stretch of the means disillusioned
8:11
thinking that she will want to be like me
8:13
or do something like what I do.
8:16
But all that matters to me is
8:18
that she believes in her
8:20
heart and soul that number
8:22
one, she's capable. Number
8:24
two, she's worthy. And number three,
8:26
that anything is possible if
8:28
she's willing to do the work and show up
8:30
for herself in that way. So
8:32
let's turn off that parent guilt for
8:34
just a moment. And let's really look
8:37
at our roles through the
8:39
lens of how we can impact and
8:41
influence the next generation by
8:43
setting the bar high. by
8:45
showing them what it looks like to live above the
8:47
line and take total ownership for
8:49
our lives, total ownership for our
8:51
results, total ownership for our behavior.
8:54
and let's swing some doors
8:56
open, let's roll out some
8:58
red carpets, and let's help
9:00
this next generation be
9:02
ready to stand on the shoulders of giants
9:04
to go out in the world and to do
9:06
incredible things that are gonna
9:08
make a massive difference in this
9:10
amazing world to be living. This is
9:12
your inspiration for the day.
9:14
Please pass this episode along to someone
9:16

9:19
And remember, that you
9:21
being you, a happy, fulfilled,
9:23
successful human being is the
9:25
greatest gift you can give this world. We
9:27
need more people that are happy fulfilled
9:29
and following their dreams and
9:31
that is gonna set the bar high and
9:33
inspire your children to
9:35
greatness. Have a great day.
