I would have had the fabulously honest, refreshingly real and slightly hilarious Craig Shoemaker on the show many episodes ago if I hadn’t done the one thing I spend my life trying to stop people doing – I judged him. I knew Craig to be the 6ft 2, rather handsome, super successful comedian who’d won The American comedy awards - Comedian of the Year, had won two emmys, who’s comedy special has aired on Showtime and Netflix , and who’s acting credits range from Parks and Recs to the Bold and the Beautiful. I saw this fancy guy who was totally into sports, always golfing with the dudes, with the gorgeous wife and kids and yada yada yada so he couldn’t be a guest on this show… and then I saw a post of his on Instagram where he talked about not having shoes to wear to play sports as a kid which made me think maybe there is a reason Craig started Laughter Heals - the charitable organization that brought us together as friends and has helped people around the world find laughter when they need it the most; and boy was there more. When I called Craig to apologize for judging him I found out how much more there is behind the Man with all the awards and credits and I am honored that he is here to share his journey with us today. May this be a lesson to me and to us all: 'you can never tell the path a man has walked by the shoes he wears today' or some other deep shoe reference…'cause Craig Shoe-maker…never mind…
