Nerds to geeks, you already know what it is. It's Saturday night,

0:37

and if you're tuned in then you know the legendary Saturday nights of the Nerd.

0:42

A round Table are back on today's nerd tastically newsworthy episode. We will

0:56

be discussing not only Marvel's Secret Invasion, but, as Tom has now coined

1:03

it, Indiana Jones and the thing the Nazis want. What shall we start

1:08

with? Gentlemen, I don't know where doctor Liz is yet, she should

1:11

be joining us. But where do we want to start? I mean the

1:18

mean, I mean, it's your show, baby, all right? So

1:23

with with Dial of Destiny um, a film which has been largely panned by

1:29

critics as being just the absolute worst addition in the Indiana Jones franchise, and

1:37

this, that or the other. I saw it last night after Later with

1:42

mo Kelly, caught an eleven o'clock show, not knowing that I was going

1:47

to be in that theater for damn near three hours. I don't know what

1:49

happened, but the Dial of Decity needs to help me find out where my

1:53

time is good. By the time I got to my car, it was

1:55

two am and I was like, what the fuck is happening right now? Thirty minutes of trailers. On top of that, there was a lot happening

2:04

in this film for me. Off the top, I said to myself,

2:07

you know what, this is a return to solid Indiana Jones form. This

2:14

to me is a film that is like Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.

2:17

As far as the storytelling, there was a lot of issues with the plot,

2:23

the whole concept of the Dollar decy. If that would have just been

2:25

left as a thing that didn't work, but you wanted to stop the Nazis

2:30

from getting it no matter what. I would have been fine with that. But then when you fucking go through time and do the shit that they did,

2:37

I said, what the fuck is happening? You lost me. I'm

2:39

out get back to me when you're done dealing with this dumb shit. And

2:44

then they came back and I said, okay, you know what. I would have probably enjoyed this a lot more of it was a Disney Plus exclusive,

2:52

but I was not mad at it. Mode you did not see it?

2:55

Correct? Hell no, no, did you see it days? Why

3:04

am I going to rush to see it? Well, now, hey,

3:06

that's a fair point, and I would say to anyone who is gonna go

3:10

see it, if you're like me and you don't like people, if just

3:15

people sitting next to you saying things like, oh see that's a reference to

3:19

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Oh that right there. What he's

3:23

talking about is that was in the Last Crusade. And you want to look at this. Motherfucker's say, if you say one more fucking thing, I'm

3:28

going to thrash you. And then you're thinking yourself, you know what,

3:31

I got a family. I don't want to go to jail tonight. If

3:35

you hate people like I hate people, Yes, do what MO did.

3:38

Wait that thirty days it'll be on Disney Plus. But if you have to

3:42

see it in theaters, I don't think you'll be disappointed. You may walk

3:46

away saying, you know, it was all right, but it was far

3:49

from the worse installment in the Indiana Jones franchise. I thought it was fair.

3:53

It treated Harrison Ford with respect, it treated the story with respect,

3:59

and and I walked out of thinking to myself, I'm not mad. What

4:03

say Utah? If you went to see The Flash in the theaters, you

4:10

need to support Indian in the dial of a much better movie then Flash.

4:19

And to Tulla's point, since they saved the time travel bullshit literally until the

4:26

last fifteen minutes of the movie, you don't have to deal with that.

4:29

You just deal with the rollicking kind of Indiana Jones nous of it. I

4:33

have to say I went in with very low expectations because, like everybody else,

4:39

I read the reviews. I saw the rotten tomatoes. There was an

4:42

interesting disparity between audience reactions and critic reactions, which was intriguing to me.

4:47

But in the first sequence, which takes place entirely in the past, with

4:51

the dage Harrison Ford, I was like, this is the fucking Indiana Jones

4:55

movie. I am completely not mad at this. It had fucking wild action.

5:00

He was, you know, doing some of his funny stuff. They had, you know, some jokes about him not being able to speak German

5:05

and doing all this stuff. And there's the dial, and there's this,

5:09

and there's the lance that stabbed Jesus but it's a fake, and there's I

5:13

mean, it was a whole bunch of very Indiana jonessh stuff. And then

5:18

you you flashed forward and it's very much like when he's at the beginning of

5:25

Raiders, where he's just teaching in a classroom, but because it's thirty years

5:29

later in real time, the kids are all bored instead of the girl in

5:33

front with the I Love You and that last and he's a lot older and

5:36

tired and it turns out he's about to retire. But you only get ten

5:40

minutes of that before we have another big action set piece, this time with

5:44

kind of some There's a super cool, badass CIA chick with an afro up,

5:50

which kind of threw me off. I was like, I'm glad to

5:53

see black people in here, but I cannot believe the Nazis who she is

5:58

obviously around are I thought you would have been shot in that scene. Well,

6:06

yeah, that's what I'm saying. And he was so clearly racist to

6:12

his the valet that brought him his meal. Yeah. I was like,

6:15

oh, sister girl about to get it, but she doesn't get it until

6:18

an hour and a half lay spoiler alert, um, but I really did

6:25

enjoy I think to Tulla's point, it is not because it's too long.

6:30

It's not as well paced or as direct as the original Raiders, but it

6:36

is a lot more of an Indiana Jones movie to me than even Temple of

6:43

Doom. Yeah yeah, um, and Crystal Skull doesn't even count. That

6:48

that was just that is definitely the worst period that is. That is number

6:53

four if you I mean number four is number five in the list. And

6:59

depending on how how you feel about Last Crusade and them having to shoehorn in

7:04

the blonde Nazi who's sleeping with the dad and the son and all that other

7:10

stuff, you know, this was a solid, if poorly paced and with

7:14

the slower, a slower Harrison Ford Indiana Jones movie. If you like Indiana

7:19

Jones, I think you'll like this. I think you'll appreciate it as a

7:24

coda to the series, because if you thought it was gonna end on Crystal

7:28

Skull, you would probably be ready to throw all your blue rays out at

7:30

the window. This is what I considered to be appropriate, and the callback

7:35

at the very end really put a button on it. I felt away And

7:41

when they recreated that moment from the movie, I was like, oh,

7:45

I'm sorry, that's what I told moll I said when they were in the

7:47

in the past and doing all that shit. I was like, what that

7:51

was to me? I was like you're going to Crystal Skull route when they

7:54

were in the past and all that. When they came back and they and

7:58

they brought it back to Mary and you and they call did the call back

8:01

to where does it hurt? That? That that gave me some feels.

8:05

I was like, Oh damn, you guys are gonna do it. You're gonna and it was. It gave me a satisfied feeling of like, you

8:11

know what, this has been a great adventure. And for everyone who who

8:16

hated Shaia and Crystal Skull the way that they treated and the way they explained

8:22

the way Shi has absent in this film, that also hit me. I

8:26

did not know that they were going to address in the way you know,

8:30

you see a letter or something in the beginning of the film kind of acknowledging

8:33

him, and I thought, well, that's just quick. But then they

8:35

go deeper into what happened to Shia's character and I was like, oh shit

8:41

that. I don't know why that's fucking with me right now, but I

8:43

felt some kind of way about what happened to his character in the overall story.

8:48

Welcome doctor Liz, How are you doing? Hi? Everyone? Yes?

8:56

And did you see it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

8:58

yeah, we got you. No, I haven't seen it, so I

9:01

can just wait, no problem before we get to a doctor, Liz.

9:05

I did want to hear uh what McBain has said, because McBain said I

9:09

got something for y'all. I've been anxiously waiting this review. Um so um,

9:16

I really really do not enjoy paying money to see a horrible movie.

9:24

But uh, this hit one of them times. What is that that looks

9:43

like a castall for door love? So? Um okay, so I did

9:52

not hate this movie. It's better than Crystal Skull. I dude, I

9:56

gotta eat my crow. Fucking I liked it. What do you want me

9:58

to say? Uh? I was the God daughter was really getting on my

10:03

nerves at the beginning, but then she grew on me. The little kid Teddy grew on me. The movie was a little long, Yeah, but

10:11

it's Indiana Jones movie. I love the uh the aging of Indiana Jones but

10:16

him still having the same old ass voice. Funny to me that that was

10:22

funny. But you know what, I love Harrison Ford. I don't care.

10:24

There were a few like um times dropped the movie where I kind of

10:28

scratched my head and the biggest one was when they're fighting on the top of

10:31

the train and uh, Indiana Jones is with his friend and the Nazi has

10:35

the uh the spear, and the Nazi loses the spear. So the Nazi

10:39

then pulls out his gun and I'm saying to myself, but the fuck you

10:41

had a gun this whole time, fucking us. It was like, huh

10:46

yeah, I don't care. Uh, I'd like the movie, man,

10:52

I mean, I don't know why it's doing bad. Uh. It was

10:54

the Indiana Jones movie. In the call back at the end, I got

10:58

to me too, I just, uh, hey, man, Harrison words

11:01

the man and I gotta eat my crow. That's all I gotta say. All I gotta say, the hat is dough. You know if Liz you

11:13

saw it too, right, I did? I did so so oh my

11:20

god left. I mean, look, look, this is another one.

11:28

I'm not a big fan of Indiana downs. Hey. I began to sit

11:33

back. I was like, oh, you know now I realized, like,

11:35

you know, the thing that that attracted me, especially to the the

11:39

Indiana Jones ride that I think is no more at Disneyland, is you know?

11:45

It was? It was um national treasure before you know National Treasure,

11:50

and I like National Treasure, so I enjoyed it. I thought it was

11:54

a good time. I did think it was a little longer. After a

11:58

while, I was like, Okay, when is this going to end?

12:01

But I'm gonna tell you my favorite part that probably is not some of you

12:07

may not like. It's when he didn't want to come home. Yeah,

12:13

and I and I felt that that was so realistic because when you've studied something

12:20

for a bazillion times and you've been stuck in this time period. I thought

12:26

it was first of all, hilarious that this fool didn't he's supposed to be

12:30

the scientists that create all this stuff that got people to the moon, and

12:33

you didn't think about the fact that there would be a deviation that you need

12:39

to consider. The yo yo math a mathin and y'all went all the way

12:43

back to the Roman period to the war and right in Syracuse. You didn't

12:54

think this through. But I thought it was funny. And then at the

12:56

same token, I was like, I can understand why you didn't want to

13:01

leave. I did think it was hilarious that the girl knocked him out and

13:05

was like, no, you going Yeah, yeah, and he took him

13:11

too long to wake up. Though I felt totally different. I was getting

13:15

mad. I mean, like like I didn't hate the scene, but I

13:18

was like, motherfucker, if you leave Indiana Jones in the past, I'm

13:20

gonna be fucking pissed. It got to write a reaction out of me, right, But but then, like I was angry in the beginning, I

13:26

was like, dude, don't do this. If you do this, I'm going to be hot. Yeah. But so then I was up until Indiana

13:39

literally explains why there It wasn't a pathway to any time you wanted to go

13:45

to. He explained that it was a fake, that was a that was

13:50

a faint and when they when you saw the propellers on his tomb, I

13:54

was like, oh wait a minute. There was only one trade that ever

14:00

happened, and the only trip that ever happened was the one that exposed our

14:03

comedies to the fact that he was eight, that he was right, and

14:07

so the Nazi he was just buying off on the fact, just like Hitler

14:13

was buying off on anything that was a spiritual totem that it was going to

14:18

be able to turn the tide of the war. Not realizing that just like

14:22

with the Art of the Governant, they were wrong. They thought it would

14:26

be able to do something. It just ended up killing everybody, and so you were just wrong. And so to me, that was a very good

14:33

callback to the first movie where a Nazi thinks he's gonna fix everything, but

14:39

it's not supposed to be that way. The problem I had and I let

14:45

it go because again, it's in Indiana Jones movie, and there's magic and

14:48

time traveling all this other sort of stuff, so I get hung up on the details. But the Nazi is looking at them as they speed away on

14:54

the boat, right he thinks they're supposed to be heading to Alexandria, and

14:58

he says, but they're heading west, and all of a sudden he ends

15:01

up in Sicily, like five minutes after them. I'm like, first of

15:05

all, your boat was sinking, how did you get another boat out there?

15:09

Why would Sicily be the first place? Why how would you even know?

15:13

Da da da da da? And I was like, but it had

15:16

to have him for the movie to happen. And this is just like Bellock

15:20

and everything else. I mean, there's always some bullshit. So I just

15:24

ran with it. In the overall scheme of things. I thought they did

15:28

some very smart things. And among the smartest things that they did was is

15:33

that in the first three movies he had to have a love interest. He

15:37

didn't need a love interest. He's a fucking archaeologist, for Christ's sake,

15:41

and so the hunt is the love and in his passion. And so they

15:46

did a familial connection with his god daughter, and he wanted to protect his

15:50

goddaughter, but he also wanted to protect the dial and all this other sort

15:52

of shit. And I thought that worked. And Teddy is a much less

15:58

grating a young side kicked in short Round who was a very broadly drawn stereotype

16:04

of an ad that that was super duper offensive in retrospect. And with Tritty,

16:18

the first thing they show us when they're introducing Teddy is that he's a

16:21

kid who wants to learn how to flying airplane. And he's got a fake airplane set up in this hotel, trying to learn how to fly an airplane.

16:27

So when you call back to it at the end of the movie,

16:30

when he actually is called the flying airplane, it doesn't feel completely out of

16:34

the blue. He's a smart kid, he's a resourceful kid, he knows

16:37

how to drive, he knows how to do all this sort of stuff,

16:41

and swim too well. And he learned he learned how to swim. No,

16:48

he was They just did a very good job. And I read a

16:52

critique that said, it feels like Spielberg, but it doesn't have the exhilaration.

16:57

I'm like, bullshit. This movie I think is suffering from a soft

17:03

season. Overall, there have been a lot of big movies that have underperformed

17:08

coming off the heels of Crystal Skull. If you Crystal Skull open to one

17:12

hundred million dollars a Memorial Weekend, but it was so shitty it kind of

17:18

killed interest in the franchise. Now you have a movie that is an enjoyable

17:22

adventure with Harrison Ford, who is having what his fourth or fifth resurrection of

17:27

a career at this point, and made a suspicuous shirts off season, but

17:37

he's still got abs. He has a show on Apple TV that is hard.

17:44

Yeah, the Psychiatrist show, right shrink or something. This is this

17:48

is a dude who is who's doing amazing things to a person is age.

17:52

I give them a lot of credit for crafting a movie that I enjoyed I

18:00

joy did a lot. I could barely get through. Crystal Skull was horrible

18:03

annoyed by it. But this one, it was like, this is an

18:07

Indiana Jones movie. If you like Indiana Jones, yes, if you like

18:11

the character, if you like the adventure. They recycled the John Williams music,

18:17

all the music again, there's the music cue for perfect right. They

18:21

did the whole thing. They really did the whole mods. Michelson is a

18:26

great Nazi villain. Um you know pretty much from the Sandman is a new

18:33

Jack American Nazi. And that's to your point. Mode the Nazis are like

18:37

neo Nazis, basically Nazi adherents. You got some Germans, but you have

18:41

some American Nazi I'm saying. But the thing that I like about it is

18:48

that it always touches back to how America accepted Nazis. Yeah, and we

18:55

don't want to have a deeper conversation about the fact of how we we're supposed

19:00

to give them back from trial, but we don't. We never, we

19:04

hardly ever did a few of them we did, but um and we can,

19:11

and we accepted them simply on the basis that we know that they could

19:15

contribute and help us in other scientific research, especially going to the moon Hydra.

19:22

There's a lot of them in NASA. And my main worry was that

19:29

they were going to Luke Skywalker Harrison Ford. That was my that was my

19:33

word. They don't do that. Okay, so no good So I was

19:37

like, okay, you didn't Luke Skywalker, Indiana Jones, Okay, thank

19:41

you. They ended with they ended with that question mark even though we know

19:47

it won't go any further. Harrison Ford's like, no, this was the

19:49

last ride. But they ended on a very positive The legend of Indiana Jones

19:56

lives on kind of money passing on to a young lady. Not you know,

20:00

no, it's it's my story. Isn't isn't done. It's done in

20:07

the film sense. But that that it ended on a very very solid note

20:11

that that I even in for the theater was empty pretty much that it got

20:17

it got an applause that that that final scene where the hat is grabbed,

20:21

it got a lot of applause where people are like good man. That was

20:25

it was empty on Thursday, what's today? Saturday? It was empty on

20:29

Thursday and Friday, but you know it was actually pretty full all my Saturdays.

20:34

That all the Saturdays that I was kept looking trying to figure out which

20:37

that which time I was gonna go. It was really pretty full. And

20:41

I'm wondering if it's gonna pick up, because I do think this is a

20:45

lot better than the Flash, and if you have to choose between the two,

20:52

then you go see this one. Screw the Flash. Oh, ain't

20:56

nobody see in the normal anyway. I think it's gonna pick up, and

21:00

I agree. I saw a four o'clock show on Thursday, so I wasn't

21:03

surprised that there weren't many people in my theater. There were about ten or

21:07

fifteen of us. There were two rabid fans in front of me who literally

21:12

like doing exactly what Ryan was talking about, where it's like, you know,

21:17

oh yeah, see what's gonna and I had to move. I just got up. I said, you motherfucker's right here. I moved three rows

21:25

back so I could enjoy a movie and piece because they were on some bullshit

21:27

and I was like, that's the worst part about talking movies is the people.

21:32

Man, Oh my god, not at home, dude, you're not fuck out. I want it should have been Indiana Jones and the volume dial

21:41

of nothing, so I could have just turned your asses down because that ship

21:45

was not the business. So I think what you're gonna see is, hopefully

21:49

you're gonna see word of mouth people who saw it on Saturday and applauded and

21:55

raised the roof and were coming out, oh my gods, that was amazing. People will watch it on Sunday. Monday is a day off for basically

22:03

almost everybody, So the Monday numbers should be pretty good and then you know,

22:07

probably softer on the fourth of July because people are really cooking out and

22:11

stuff. But I think it'll pick up. I think it'll it should do

22:15

better than sixty million. It should do at least as well as the Flash.

22:18

And it really should do a lot better than the Flash because it's it

22:21

should do a lot better, hope hopefully. Um. And I think a

22:25

lot of the there's a lot of negativity surrounded around uh. I just believe

22:30

in Hollywood, just agism. Um. But I think they did not do

22:34

anything with Indiana Jones um as an older Indiana Jones that was just so unbelievable

22:41

that you were like, well, he can't do that. I'm like,

22:44

I'm like, but putting in work. I forgot shot. I'm like,

22:48

yeah, but but he all but he's always putting in work after he's getting

22:52

gotten. No, that's I love that calcified action. Remember when he was

23:00

climbing up the climbing he was just like he's like, what are you doing?

23:04

I'm thinking, right, go on, head out of me. And

23:17

it wasn't it wasn't like just Reilly joky, like I got to put a

23:22

joke in here. It was like, this is an old man saying some

23:25

old man ship. It was just it was just enjoyable and clever. They

23:29

did a good job of capturing Indie. By the way, Mission Impossible Dead

23:33

Reckoning opens next week, so it doesn't have a reprieve this. It's gotta

23:38

get that business in this first because Mission Impossible is going to be a monster.

23:42

I think that's what the complaint was is every week you have a blockbuster

23:48

coming out. Yeah, they couldn't because a little bit more except for the

23:53

Flash. They should have opened this last week. So the Flash is gonna

23:59

just died because you got Dead Reckoning next week, and the week after that

24:04

you got Oppenheimer versus Barbie. Right, Yeah, it's it's it's thing,

24:11

um a Flash actually should have used the dial of Destiny to go back and

24:15

cancel the filming of the Flash if they could have the the other thing that

24:22

hit this week. Uh. Also in the realm of Desney, Disney which

24:26

if you look at it right now, uh the top four films um in

24:33

on the box office right now are our courtesy of Disney keep trying their best

24:38

to keep fucking box offices alive. Without Disney, um, you know,

24:45

the box office would be doing uh nowhere near as good this summer uh as

24:51

it as it is. Um. But on the television side, no,

24:55

no, not that what I'm saying, Like with Elemental with um with Guardians

25:00

with Now India and Little Mermaid, those four films are are really helping out

25:07

the summer overall. And just by proximity Spider Man because it's it's propelled by

25:14

the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the connection there, Disney is helping that film

25:18

as well. So it is because of these properties coming from Disney Studios and

25:25

anything connected to it that the box office is winning. And on the home

25:30

side, I mean Secret Invasion is quite possibly one of the most astoundingly good

25:40

Disney plus MCBU series that has been created thus far. Two episodes in I

25:45

have been treated to that same level of flawlessness that I got in Captain America

25:51

Winner Soldier. Sam Jackson Is Now and Forevermore The Fucking Man. Episode two

25:57

was eighty percent of just dialogue and I was still on the edge of my

26:02

seat watching the ship, like give me more him and Rhody him and RHODYE

26:06

going at it was great. That was one of the best. That was

26:10

one of the best speeches to come out of the MCU because it was black

26:12

as fuck. The only my only regret on that one was it wasn't a

26:18

one cut in the frame together. It was back and forth. They would

26:22

have liked the better if it was just the two of them sitting at the

26:25

table, one camera and then just them going at it the whole time in

26:29

one take. But you know, whatever can't win them all. What do

26:33

you think about Secret Invasion Moment. It's the best Disney Plus series bar none.

26:41

I know, recency bias, but it's the tonality of Captain America Winter

26:47

Soldier. It has the seriousness of the best of the MCU. We get

26:52

to learn about the personal side of Nick Fury. It was alluded to that

26:56

he had a wife. He said that in the Winter Soldier. We didn't

27:00

know if he was telling the truth. Now we know that he is telling

27:02

the truth. She may be a scroll, but we'd know that Nick Fury

27:07

is that dude. We get to hear something about his upbringing and and you

27:11

get this larger allegory of racial strife in the United States and the Scrolls who

27:15

were staying life and basically told the Scrolls y'all don't know what we went through.

27:21

Y'all can shape the shift, and you can blend in any time you want um. And you to think that this country, this America, is

27:27

going to accept you when it accepts nobody else. Hell no, I mean

27:33

I wouldn't even that was the whole planet. Yeah, the whole planet.

27:36

I wouldn't even say America, the whole planet wanted to accept them. Well,

27:40

they didn't even accept people when we saw Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

27:42

They didn't even risget them people who had moved in to fill in the gap

27:47

from the blip. Right, Yes, this is this is right in line

28:00

with with that level of storytelling. The most point, this is in line

28:03

with with the serious side of Disney from when Kevin fig he said, we

28:08

are going to have something for everyone. This is a show that is for

28:12

those who appreciate the more serious side of storytelling within the Marvel Cinematic universe.

28:18

Yes, you can have Miss Marvel, which was a fun teenage romp.

28:22

But for for any grown ass man, it's like, we don't relate to

28:26

the adventures of a sixteen year old girl. It's not a coming age story

28:29

for everyone. But it is a solid story. This story here, I

28:33

promise you. It's not for kids. It's not for people who want superhero

28:37

action. This shit is so intelligent, so brilliantly written and acted. The

28:44

acting in this from Ben Mendelssohn, from Sam Jackson, now don Cheeto from

28:48

uh what has it been? Um? Been a mirror? No? No?

28:55

Oh? The c Yeah year Kings have been out there. Look,

29:02

every single one of them, the performers that they're putting in. Even Homegirl,

29:06

who was like the London heavy or the UK heavy. Sheaf into that

29:11

room and she's like tells everyone like, here, y'all can leave. Where's

29:14

the escape room? By the way, Okay, good, thank you by everybody. I'm like, Yo, this shit is so flawlessly written. It

29:22

it gives you hope for for the MCU storytelling ability. I know many people

29:26

fell off with so many of the films that came out because the larger story

29:32

has been lost. But when you look at this story and how the events

29:37

of this story affect everything that we've seen since since Captain Marvel storytelling why it's

29:44

from Captain Marvel, which precedes the Avengers and the foundation of the Avengers.

29:48

And now you know from this series that there are a million plus scrolls on

29:52

the planet. When they came, at what point, what they're doing it.

29:57

There's so much that's about to happen with this Let me just one thing,

30:02

Let me just one thing, Twala to your point, I think the casting is immaculate and intentional if you understand the backstory of the scrolls and the

30:11

fact that they chose how they wanted to present themselves to society, and Gravi

30:17

chose a multi ethnic man, I'll put it that way, to almost almost

30:22

align himself with the people who endured the greatest struggle in various forms. He

30:29

could have been Muslim, he could have been black, he could have been

30:32

a little bit of everything. But I think that was telling and intentional to

30:37

tell a specific story about a wronged people who you talk about the America not

30:44

living up to its promise. This is the world not living up to its

30:47

promise, Sam Jackson's promise, and Gravic wants to put that face on it

30:52

and in their face every single day. That's all. Yeah. I think

30:56

that one of the things that really jumped out to me about this is that

31:00

I was waiting for an offering from the MCU to make me feel the way

31:07

I used to feel about the MCU in Phase three. We had so many

31:12

disappointing sequels. In Phase four and then Phase five with Quantum Mania and everything

31:18

else, it was like between Multiverse of Madness, disappointment, Love and Thunder

31:25

disappointment, Quantum Mania disappointment, and then you get this series and it's like,

31:32

this reminds me of why the spycraft subgenre of the MCU films really have

31:40

been my favorite. I love Winter Soldier. I thought Falcon and the Winter

31:45

Soldier was awesome, even Black Widow because it was less about superpowers and it

31:49

was more about spies and stuff and international intrigue. I did that. It's

31:53

why Mission Impossible is one of my favorite franchises now after stumbling in the first

31:59

two films, it really kind of found it stride. And now with the

32:01

whole Rogue Nation in this new set of agency's working with, I'm excited about

32:07

seeing this next movie. I love the last three movies and so I'm excited

32:10

about this one. I love the fact that the MCU has decided we can

32:15

tell an exciting, thrilling story without it being magical bursts. And you do

32:22

have the Scrolls changing shape, but that's really no more of a gag than

32:27

what Mission Impossible did with those impossibly accurate face masks that you just peeled off.

32:30

You could make it five seconds and go and imitate anybody. It's the

32:35

same sort of gag with the Scrolls, and it fits perfectly because you know

32:38

that they're a covert race. You know that they're working behind the scenes,

32:43

and from what we've seen now that they tease, and I'm surprised nobody has

32:45

said this, They literally tease the super scroll program. In this episode.

32:52

We had seen his arm stretch and it did look grutish, but now we

32:58

know why it looks gruti because they have a group sample and they're grafting superpowers

33:02

onto the already unstable cellular structure. Of the scrulls to do what they're trying

33:07

to do. So we saw that they have a groot sample, they have

33:10

an ice beast sample one presumes from as Guardian something from Dark World. Maybe

33:19

they have Obsidian, they have a Colubsidian, which I guess is going to

33:22

be super strength and durability. And then you've got an Extremists, which among

33:29

the things that Extremists did was it showed a thermal aspect, So maybe that's

33:32

human torch. Maybe Colubsidian is thing is the thing. Grout is obviously mister

33:39

fantastic And then I don't know how Ice Beast turns into the Invisible Woman.

33:44

Maybe you can transform yourself into clear ice or something. But they're gathering powers.

33:49

They're not tying into the Fantastic Four, but they're not making it exactly

33:52

not the Fantastic Four. And Sam Jack is just a fucking boss. I

33:57

mean he is. When he grabbed that dude's head who thought he was gonna

34:00

frog walk him out in the field and he was like, bitch, twist.

34:05

I was like, you're underestimating Nick Fury. I'm Nick Fury, bitch

34:09

when I'm out. I like the fact that it would have been so easy

34:15

just to make the scrolls like evil evil because I was wondering. I was

34:19

wondering, like, why why are they doing this? Why are they why

34:22

are they bad guys? And I was saying to myself, well, kind

34:25

of makes sense because they were supposed to get their own planet. So now

34:30

they're saying, oh, you fucking backed down on us, so fuck you. Now we're gonna take your planet. I get it. I mean they're

34:35

still evil, but at least I understand why they're doing what they're doing.

34:38

Yeah. Also, dude, I love this peak Nick Fury's whenever you know

34:44

the question he wants to ask, but he tells this long story, the story about his past, about telling me something I don't know. I was

34:50

like, where's this leading to? And then he looks at looks at Homeboy

34:53

and goes, tell me something I don't know about the scrolls, Like he

34:57

knows exactly what he wants to ask, he wants he knows something wrong.

35:00

I love I love that scene. I loved it that scene, just that

35:05

that that quick journey into America's past and he's breaking down, you know,

35:10

riding on the back of that train in a car with with no bathroom and

35:15

and packing food, and I'm just like like that, like, like,

35:19

that's the type of stuff that I when when I hear those stories, I

35:22

think about things that my mom used to tell me about about growing up,

35:27

and I think about the America that that she grew up in and that she

35:31

saw. And so when I hear him talk about these stories, even from

35:35

Winter Soldier, when he tells the story about his his um uh that our

35:39

grandfather being an elevator operator, I'm like, right, yeo, man,

35:43

Like this this is this is fan fantastic storytelling and and it's it's very unapologetic

35:51

in in what what we're doing here with the mcu UM. I like how

35:57

this this story ties directly into what's going to happen with the Marvels, like

36:01

they they they call it out by name, that that segment of scrolls that

36:07

are off world, you know, under the rule of the individual who's the

36:10

big bad in the Marvel's Emperor. And so I'm like, stuff like that

36:15

to me is very very dope to connectivity. It's my hope that this is

36:21

a return to true form for Marvel because Guardians is on point. Now you

36:25

follow Guardians with um something like secret Invasion and it just it gives so much

36:32

light for where this storyline could go, and even of course with Spider Man

36:37

into the Spider Verse or across the Spider Verse. I'm like, look, y'all got three for three right now, three for three with winners. This

36:44

is a very very good sign for the MCU, very good sign, Shaka

36:50

says. Even when I'm out, I mean, yes, yes, brother,

36:53

that is exactly it. Well, all I know is everything I'm looking

36:59

at this, especially second episode, I'm like, okay, so wait a

37:02

second, who's a scroll? So now I'm going back a scroll, That's

37:07

what I think. But I'm gonna say that I am kind constantly going back

37:15

in my head thinking, okay, so when was there ever an off moment

37:19

with someone, so then I can possibly be like, oh, that was

37:25

someone who did something, you know, And so it's I do think that's

37:30

how they work. It's very discombobulating. It is kind of weird because like

37:36

I think Rodi or Scrody it was as like, could you get a hold

37:40

of the Adventures. It makes me think like, wouldn't Rody be able to

37:44

do that? And I'm thinking why he wants the Ventures here so they can steal their powers. I'm just guessing. Yeah. I was about to say,

37:52

we know she help is on planet, and we know that at least

37:57

Mark Well Bruce Banner was all so on planet and at least temporarily, and

38:02

his son was on planet. But Thor is off world. Yep, Um,

38:07

he got all guys still there. But we don't know what they've what

38:13

they've done as far as the advancements in the Avengers program, which is that

38:17

which is a very telling line of when you say them you know, but

38:22

yeah, but doesn't have any powers, and um, Winter Soldier and super

38:28

Soldiers here they there scrolls are already basically super soldiers. Um, And we

38:32

don't know what I'm saying. But I'm saying, well, maybe Winter Soldier

38:38

is and maybe he isn't. I don't know if he's. I mean,

38:42

he's still somewhat in a very weird gray area. My thing it says Nick

38:46

Fury knows how to get a hold of Captain Marvel if you want to,

38:49

That's all my thing. He could probably get a hold anybody. He's coming

38:52

back, yes, And but I'm saying that just just your point saying,

38:55

if you're going to call, shouldn't lady be able to call if we all

39:00

know that it does keep in touch with Falcon slash Cappa in America. He

39:06

keeps to touch with everybody. Yeah, well he's the official liaison now,

39:09

so yeah, I think it's I think very few of us believe that this

39:15

Roadie is not Scrody. I think it's pretty obvious he's Scrody. I think

39:17

there's a fair chance that the President is a Scrull as well, given that

39:22

they showed that the British Prime Minister is a Scrull and the head of the

39:25

U N blah blah blah is a Scrully. They're basically signaling you had an

39:31

Asian person of indiscriminate country origin, so probably he's supposed to be from China.

39:37

You had an Indian representative. You've got people representing billions of humans worth

39:44

of countries and they're at the top of the food chain. And so it's

39:49

clear that the Scrulls have been on an intense mission. And whereas Secret Invasion

39:54

in the comic book Side was all about them imitating human super i mean,

39:59

Earth found superheroes, this seems like the focus is a lot more for obvious

40:05

good reasons. There's a lot more about the political intrigue that they can affect

40:08

change with by being who they are. Hey, tom Um, you had

40:13

a pillar of media, you had pillars and politics. Ye. Right,

40:20

So you know that they were very strategic in the sense of we were going

40:23

to control the messaging, We're going to control technology, We're going to control

40:28

the laws across the world. That's the shooter that shooters think that in Spider

40:38

Man, when he reveals who Spider Man was like, that could easily have

40:45

been somebody who could have been a scroll. See to me, it makes

40:50

me MYSI that was the Internet conspiracy. Yeah, but mysterio released that not

40:58

Mysterio, but I'm talking about every time a Jay Jonah Jameson. Yes,

41:04

but that was the Internet conspiracy. That they were going to present Peter Parker

41:09

as a scroll Peter Parker and then Spider Man regular Peter Parker. They were

41:15

going to present them and be like, no, it's not that was the

41:17

Internet conspiracy theory for part three. Obviously that wasn't true. They just ran

41:23

with the exposure of Peter Parker as spider Man, right and ares, which

41:30

at the end of No Way or Yet was not No Way far from Home.

41:34

At the end of Far from Home that Nick Fury was a scroll.

41:38

So the easiest thing in the world would have been for him to imitate Peter

41:44

Parker and have Spider Man on screen while he's imitating Peter Parker, the whole

41:50

Internet conspiracy, right, it would have deflated it because nobody knows about the

41:53

scrolls at this point. But of course you wouldn't have had no way home

42:00

if you didn't have to make the world for Giddy with Spider Man and so right, it's fine, and I wonder if you know the leaders and fought

42:08

and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, right, so the leaders and the whole

42:13

premise when he gives that whole speech, think of the same thing is Ross

42:17

was Ross a scroll? And Black Panther two? Oh was he right now?

42:27

Yeah? Yet shot and still not transformed. That's true too, that

42:30

you lost a finger, but when when she chopped off his finger, his

42:36

finger reverted to scroll and bleeding. So any tissue that had been in that

42:42

wound for Black Panther one would have reverted to sculpture. And talking about part

42:46

two, that I don't think he could have been because my question is like,

42:52

how did he get here? And that's yeah, you know, and

42:57

the first season, I mean the first episode. It makes some more sense

43:00

for him to have been replaced when he was on the run after what's her

43:05

name napped him, Yeah, after the Midnight Angel grabbed him at the end

43:09

of the Yeah, because I feel like maybe she's maybe he's in Wakanda and

43:15

or something to that effect. Why would have scroll replace him when he's going

43:20

to jail? I mean, was he I don't understand. No, no,

43:22

no, no, no, no. He got rescued before he got

43:24

he was going to jail, and then they realized there was an opportunity to

43:28

replace him. So you're saying, okay, I see. My question is

43:31

so was he a scroll before right before he got rescued? After after I

43:37

would have broke him out and then scrolled him. Okay, yes, okay,

43:43

look look we we shall see. We got this is what a limited

43:45

series six episode? Yeah, I would say the big positive on these episodes.

43:52

They're pushing an hour yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, like you're not

43:55

getting some thirty three minute episode with a five minute bulls. These are a

44:04

little These are true many movies in every sense. I mean, the story

44:08

that they're telling, it's it's stellar. Man. I can't. I cannot

44:13

wait for for next week. Um, we got yet another episode of Secret

44:19

Invasion, and uh, thank you for the reminder I forgot. We got

44:22

Mission Impossible. Um rogue it was a Rogue Nation Reckoning Part one. Yeou.

44:30

Every time I see a trailer for that film, I get more and

44:32

more hype when I see what Tom Cruise is doing. And when this dude

44:37

said in an interview that we did the motorcycle scene first because we weren't sure

44:44

if it was gonna work, I e. We weren't sure what was gonna

44:46

happen to me, so we wanted to get that out of the way,

44:49

right that is, yes, well I die, and if I die,

44:52

there's no movie that I'm all in. When they were showing that behind the

44:58

scenes of how they set up the motorcycle thing, I was like, how

45:02

the fuck is that a covert mission? You're building a goddam two hundred meter

45:07

ramp on the side of a mountain. And then I realized that that was

45:10

just the framework for when they skinned it to look like a natural outcropping of

45:15

rock. I was like, Oh, and he's like, let's do it

45:20

again. This man is like they shot that scene, what seven eight times.

45:23

I'm like, that's seven eight motorcycles. You've done dropped in a ditch

45:28

to shit like that's why they didn't budget whis so high. I'm like this,

45:30

dude, we're gonna do it again. Yeah, Destiny cost two hundred

45:36

and ninety five million dollars. Bro Wow, Yeah they look like that was

45:42

a lot of greens grained all over. The reason why because right, because

45:45

think about the time they really got everything right, as in PanAm the setting

45:53

was so correct, like the kind of cars that they all of that cost.

45:59

You see, they were the budget man. They recreated the goddamn Invasion

46:05

of Athens third part um, so tons of cgi there. Um. I

46:15

don't know, I don't know. I think look, this is still a pack summer. Uh. Next week will be just as pact. I'm excited

46:22

for it. Before we get out of here, Anthony, what you watching?

46:28

I am waiting for season eleven of Futurama. Yeah yeah, that's I

46:34

mean that show has ended at least two times already. Yeah, something like

46:38

that at least and to bring it back. It never gets old my money.

46:44

Now, Yes mc bain, what you watching? Just Star Trek Discovery

46:49

and I am waiting for um oh yeah the Witcher. I think it's came

46:54

out this week. Think no, no, no no. The season three

47:00

is still uh is still will Yeah, still Cavil. Yeah what you watching

47:06

list? Okay? Yeah, I am well Apple TV. The Hijack is

47:13

really really good. I can't stand Silo really, I I do, really

47:20

really do. Is it a series or is it a movie? It's a

47:22

series and it's so good. But the thing that I am so excited over

47:30

I have been waiting four years for this, um it is uh okay O

47:40

Worsa and I am so excited. It's three episodes already that they dropped and

47:47

I am so excited. Yeah, Warriors Dope, Warriors dope. Just the

47:54

story that they're telling that period and the foundation of America with the backdrop of

47:59

mar Chlars. It's fire television. M Robert, I have Robert Is asking

48:06

if for some thoughts on the One Piece trailer. I watch One Piece every

48:12

week every Saturday night. Um that like, after we get off, I

48:15

typically go and watch some anime with my son. Huge fan of One Piece

48:21

and I'm excited for the One Piece live action series coming to Netflix. The

48:25

characters are very accurate from my understanding, the creator has been very, very

48:32

involved in it, and anytime something does not look accurate, does not look

48:36

like it should be in One Piece, he's like, Nope, shoot it

48:39

again, do it again, take it out whatever. So I'm excited about

48:43

that. Uh Mo, what you're watching? Jack? Ryan? Season four

48:47

has dropped? It's your hands? Oh oh, isn't this the final season?

48:54

It is? Or is it the whole thing? Hit again? Is

49:00

it episodic like weekly? Or do they drop the whole the whole season? They dropped the first two and now the third one is now in for the

49:07

second week? Nice? Nice? What's on TV? To uh hijack Hijack

49:16

Ryan? And um, I have to say to Robert, I don't think.

49:24

I don't like how lofy looks. Really, I don't know. It's

49:30

I mean, it's it's just not working for me. I asked my son,

49:32

my oldest son is a huge one Piece fan, and he was like,

49:36

yeah, Dad, I don't I don't know. It's not like that the hat is wrong. It was just something about his face. And I

49:43

guess because his eyes are such a prominent thing in the anime and he has

49:45

normal eyes and you know, so it's kind of like the Spider Man eyes

49:50

that get real big. And I don't know, I just wanted to get

49:52

other the other characters I was fine with, but just I mean, look,

49:58

one, he's one piece, you know, so he's got to be

50:00

right, and unlike the avatar casting that we talked about last episode, this

50:07

he just didn't. He just didn't work for me. I'm not saying I

50:10

won't watch it. I'm just saying he didn't really connect with me as him.

50:15

But I'm very excited about Jack Ryan season four. I think that um,

50:20

Mike Chris Chriss has Yeah, Krazinski has done a great job as Jack

50:27

Ryan. I like Idris Elba and so um I do like and I love

50:32

taught kind of thrillers. They're saying that this is a real time show.

50:37

It's not as real time as twenty four purported itself to be so far,

50:40
