0:11
Welcome to the Life Coach School
0:13
Podcast, where it's all about real
0:15
clients, real problems, and
0:18
real coaching. And now
0:20
your host, Master Coach Instructor,
0:23
Brooke Castillo. Hello,
0:26
friends. I'm so excited
0:29
for you to learn about
0:31
some fast success today. Kayla
0:34
Horry, I welcomed her
0:36
to the podcast. It's kind of a
0:38
funny story, the way that she ended
0:40
up on the podcast. I will tell
0:42
my version of it, and then we
0:45
can let you introduce yourself and tell your version of
0:47
it. But what happened was I
0:49
was at a mastermind, and I
0:51
didn't know a soul there. And
0:54
I was introducing myself and talking to people, and
0:56
I met this guy, and he thought I was
0:58
someone's wife. At the
1:00
event, he didn't know that I was actually there,
1:02
you know, for myself
1:05
and for my own business. And
1:07
so we just kind of briefly chatted. He didn't
1:09
seem very interested in talking to me, just kind of
1:11
like blah, blah, blah. But then the next
1:13
day when I saw him, he's like, oh my God, what am I
1:15
going to be talking about? I was like, what
1:17
is happening? Why? So
1:19
it's like, my sister loves you.
1:22
I found out that I was here with you and said
1:24
that I had to come say hi, and I need to
1:26
take a selfie. And, you know, it
1:28
was all excitement. I think I sent you a
1:31
text. I think he like got my number. We
1:33
sent a text. We kind of chatted. You
1:35
were just about to sign up, I
1:37
think, for coach certification. You were just
1:39
about to sign up. I
1:41
was already signed up. I was already signed up,
1:43
but it was the end of March. And
1:46
certification didn't begin until the end of April.
1:49
Oh, that's right. I was already signed up, but
1:51
I had not yet begun. So that's right. That's
1:53
right. And so I was like, oh
1:55
my gosh, I'm so excited. I'm so glad we just kind
1:57
of exchanged a few words. And that was kind of it,
1:59
right? And then I didn't
2:02
hear from you until what like
2:04
last month. Yeah. And need
2:06
the most amazing text about
2:08
all of your fast success. And I said,
2:10
you should come on and talk about all
2:13
of this on the podcast
2:15
because you know, not everybody has
2:17
fast success. Yeah. A lot
2:19
of people struggle in the beginning and it's part
2:21
of the process and everything. But every once in
2:23
a while someone just comes in and kicks a
2:25
mask. And I would like
2:28
to celebrate you and celebrate that and
2:30
hear your entire story. So is that
2:32
your version of the story as well? Close.
2:35
It's a little bit different. A little bit different. But
2:37
yeah, first of all, thank you so much for having
2:39
me on. This is such a... Yes. Just
2:42
super fun. Okay. So
2:45
I'll get a little bit more into this but
2:47
I have been in coaching for over 20 years.
2:49
I've done a lot of coaching. Never
2:52
for myself, not as an entrepreneur. Oh,
2:54
okay. I've been in other companies,
2:56
different industries, different settings but I
2:59
have a long history of coaching.
3:02
And for at least a decade, I have
3:04
talked about starting my own coaching practice and
3:06
I've talked about wanting to do this. I
3:09
have three kiddos and in the season
3:11
of my kids are all very close
3:13
in age. I had three babies in
3:15
three years and in that season, I
3:17
have one with special needs, I have one with some
3:20
medical needs. So I had a lot going on. Wow.
3:23
So I talked about wanting to do this for
3:25
a long time but the timing wasn't right for
3:28
our family. And so
3:30
it was about almost two years ago
3:32
that I finally decided now is the
3:34
time. I want to do
3:36
this. I had all this history with coaching
3:39
but I really wanted... I had followed the
3:41
Life Coach School for years, had followed your
3:43
podcast, had looked at the Coach Certification Program,
3:45
knew I wanted to do it but it
3:47
just took time until it was right for my
3:50
family for me to jump in. Right.
3:52
So I hung out with my brother and sister-in-law
3:55
and I had just signed up for certification and
3:57
I told them, I said, talk about this for
3:59
a long time. for years, I'm going
4:01
for it, starting my certification next month
4:04
and I'm gonna start my own practice and
4:06
they were super supportive, they've known I've wanted
4:08
to do this forever but I didn't give
4:10
them any details. I didn't tell them who
4:12
or with who and who meant anything to
4:14
them anyway, right? So it
4:17
was about a week later that my
4:19
brother went to the mastermind and he
4:21
texted me and the
4:23
only thing he sent me was a link
4:25
to the Life Coach School website and
4:28
I looked back and I said, yes,
4:32
and he said we got to check this out.
4:34
He said I'm at mastermind right now in Florida,
4:36
I think it was Florida, I think it was
4:39
Florida, I'm in right now and
4:41
I just met this woman and this is
4:43
her business, you should check it out. Oh
4:45
see, I didn't hear that part, that's actually
4:47
really cool. Yeah, so because it was it
4:49
was within the week that I had told
4:51
him I was gonna pursue this. Wow, okay.
4:54
So he sends me a link
4:56
to the website and tells me I should
4:58
check it out because he just met you
5:00
and he told me she's amazing,
5:02
she's really successful. I love it.
5:04
I said, you're right,
5:07
that is the
5:09
school that I'm already registered to
5:11
go through. That is so cool.
5:14
Yeah, yeah, so he didn't know
5:16
that. So initially he told
5:19
me he sent me your cell number and
5:21
he said, this is her, here's her
5:23
number, she says to call her, which I'm
5:26
sure at that point you didn't know yet
5:28
that I was already signed up. So I'm
5:30
sure at that point you were thinking, oh,
5:32
I'll help her out. Yeah, yeah, my program,
5:34
but I was already already signed up. So
5:36
it is so cool. I did not call
5:39
you. And then
5:41
he like connected us with that three-way
5:43
text and I remember him saying in
5:45
that three-way text, he said when he
5:48
did a little intro, he said,
5:50
my sister is about to kill
5:52
it in the coaching space or
5:54
whatever he said. And
5:56
great brother, love him dearly. And so
5:58
all of this to say
6:00
I knew from the very beginning that I was
6:03
doing this to do this to change my family's
6:05
future and I wanted to do it
6:07
forever and I have all this coaching history but I just
6:09
knew I needed time to get to the point to be
6:12
able to start my own practice. So when I started my
6:14
own practice, I was like let's f***ing go,
6:16
right? Like we're gonna do this and we're
6:18
gonna do this big and we're gonna do
6:20
this fast and so I started
6:22
building my practice and it was totally my goal
6:25
in my first year of
6:27
business to hit six figures
6:30
and to be able to walk across the
6:32
stage and get to mastermind and all that
6:34
and then in mastermind in the fall, you
6:37
announced that the future masterminds will be
6:39
virtual, there's not gonna be walking across
6:41
the stage anymore and so at the
6:43
time, I thought, you know, bummer but
6:45
that's okay. I was still obviously I'm
6:47
building this for my family and for
6:49
our future and so anyway but all
6:51
that just... Right now, you're getting to
6:54
walk across this stage right now. Well,
6:56
I certainly did not expect this. So
7:01
get to the end of 2023 and we were
7:03
celebrating, it was my birthday weekend, my husband's birthday
7:12
weekend, New Year's weekend and so we had
7:14
all these things going on and we were
7:16
kind of celebrating and I had my last
7:19
transaction come through for 2023. So
7:22
I had kind of my final 2023 number
7:25
and I thought I remembered back to
7:27
that initial text from before I started
7:29
certification and I thought, oh man,
7:31
it would just be fun to get
7:33
to show Brooke that this
7:36
is changing my life and so I
7:38
sent one text to the number I've
7:40
never used and I said, I
7:43
don't know if you remember this but, you
7:45
know, when you met my brother at mastermind,
7:47
he connected us and I said, I just
7:49
thank you. I said, I'm so grateful for
7:52
what you've provided and the beliefs that
7:54
you hold for us and that really
7:57
allowed me to step into my own
7:59
beliefs and... step into just an
8:01
opportunity to take the coaching
8:04
expertise and experience that I had and turn it
8:06
into a business for myself. And so I just
8:08
sent you a text and I said, thank you
8:10
for what the belief you carry and what
8:13
you've provided for so many of us. This
8:16
is changing my family's life. And you
8:18
wrote back and said, do you want to come on the podcast
8:20
and talk about it? And I about fell out of my chair.
8:23
I was like, let's do it. Now we're going
8:25
to break down how you did this because everybody
8:27
wants to know one of the
8:29
things that I get so much praise for
8:31
it like you're giving me right now is
8:33
that I believe women can
8:35
make lots of money. I think women can make
8:37
lots of money fast. I think we can make
8:39
lots of money as entrepreneurs and I'm going to
8:41
sing it till the day I die. I believe
8:43
it. But also there
8:46
are a lot of people that get
8:48
that belief and really struggle with being
8:50
able to create the result. And so
8:52
one of my like main
8:54
goals right now is to really understand
8:56
why does someone like you win
8:59
so fast and so hard and why
9:01
does someone else maybe struggle in their
9:03
first year? And
9:06
people will say to me, well, $100,000 in your
9:08
first year as an entrepreneur is unrealistic. And
9:10
I'm like, according to whom?
9:13
Right? Like it depends
9:16
on what you believe is realistic
9:18
for you. And it
9:20
doesn't mean that everybody needs to do that or
9:22
that you even have to do that. But you
9:24
did do that. So congratulations. I want to celebrate
9:27
you and then I want all of the reasons
9:29
why you think you were able to do that.
9:31
Okay. Okay. Well,
9:34
thank you. My favorite word, a couple of people have asked
9:36
me lately, like what's your word for business right now?
9:38
And I just keep saying it's fun. My
9:40
favorite word right now in business is fun. It's
9:42
been so fun to watch myself
9:44
create this. It's been so fun to
9:47
serve my clients and watch my clients
9:49
change their lives. It's been
9:51
so fun to be an example to
9:53
myself and to my girls, to my
9:55
son, to my husband of what
9:58
I can create and kind of a funny. side
10:00
note. So my background,
10:02
the vast majority of my
10:05
coaching background was in a
10:07
nonprofit organization,
10:09
was through a nonprofit organization. So my
10:12
paychecks for many, many, many,
10:14
many, many years have been quite small, which
10:17
I wasn't doing the work for the paycheck.
10:19
I loved what I did. I wouldn't do
10:21
that for anything. I literally
10:24
remember having conversations with my husband early
10:26
on. We got married in our 30s.
10:29
And so we got married, got pregnant
10:31
within eight weeks, had three babies within
10:33
three years, we made up for some
10:35
time. And a lot happened very quickly.
10:38
And that time I remember thinking, you
10:40
know, if only I wanted to be
10:42
home with my kids, I have, like
10:44
I said, kids with special needs and
10:47
therapies, I've got a lot going on
10:49
and I actually homeschool them now. And
10:51
I oh my god, come on. I
10:54
really wanted to be involved, you know,
10:57
really hands on with them. That was my choice.
10:59
But I also wanted to be able to make
11:01
money from home. And I remember, I literally
11:03
remember having conversations with my husband years
11:06
ago, saying, I don't have a very
11:08
impressive resume. I don't have some great
11:10
skill that I can use from home.
11:13
Sorry, you married somebody who's just not
11:15
gonna be able to contribute much financially. Like
11:18
I really believe that about myself. And
11:20
I only share that to say
11:22
it's been incredible to step into
11:24
this place where I'm holding belief
11:26
for myself. And proving
11:28
to myself that I do have skills
11:30
that I can make a significant financial
11:33
impact on our family. And for years,
11:35
I believe that that wasn't going to
11:37
be the case. And I was okay
11:39
with it. Yeah, you know, all of
11:41
those years that I was in coaching
11:44
and serving, I loved what I did. I was
11:47
doing leadership development, working with leaders, making
11:49
an impact on the world and impact
11:51
is very important to me. So
11:53
I loved it. And Also, I
11:55
believed that I would never contribute really
11:58
financially to our home. Though
12:00
it's just been such a guest to
12:02
step up a bit, Bagel didn't, but
12:04
even like you think about that you
12:07
came from a nonprofit. You. Know
12:09
I understand more easily. I think when
12:11
someone comes from an entrepreneurial background and
12:13
their the switching services right, so they're
12:15
coming. They've already been online, they've already
12:17
been selling something online, and now they're
12:19
becoming a life coach and are able
12:21
to have really fast success. Like Babbel,
12:23
That's the case for you. And I
12:26
mean, I didn't know this before talking
12:28
to. So coming from a nonprofit sector,
12:30
it's like you're not being taught how
12:32
to market yourself. You're not being taught
12:34
how to be an entrepreneur. So for
12:36
sure you believed that you could. But.
12:38
Then, how did you continue to believe
12:40
that you could as you go through
12:42
all the trials and tribulations of building
12:45
a business? And than a how did
12:47
you actually do But. Yeah, yes
12:49
well I do have one
12:51
caviar. Said. L the non
12:53
profit that I worked with. In
12:56
order to be funded we are.
12:58
I'm still connected with them very
13:00
loosely as an it's silly printed
13:02
consultant basis I thought, but it
13:04
worked with them for many, many,
13:06
many years. And when I had
13:08
a paycheck with them full time
13:10
at part of my responsibility been
13:12
connected with them was to raise
13:14
finances. Yeah, over the past, some
13:16
of my role basically ah, So.
13:19
What I found his While I
13:21
didn't have history in entrepreneurship and
13:23
I hadn't already been doing this
13:25
in a different way and entrepreneurship
13:27
there was some members of the
13:30
fields yeah marketing skills the as
13:32
for years I had to go
13:34
find people share was about the
13:36
opportunity to invest in the company
13:38
said I was working with and
13:40
develop that financial support team in
13:42
order still to do my job
13:45
so I will say I did.
13:47
Ah ground inability to skills. Transfer
13:49
I don't the eye for the thousand and
13:51
the other had a me ask you this
13:53
is it different for you to sell for
13:55
someone else will raise money for some an
13:58
old. versus. For yourself. Did you
14:00
have a challenge with that? Okay. Tell
14:02
me a little bit about that. Yes. Well, I
14:04
think, yeah, when you're
14:06
raising for an organization, it
14:09
feels less personal. Yeah.
14:11
It feels, the no feels less personal,
14:13
I think. So
14:16
it just was different and it was such a
14:18
different setting. But what I found
14:20
when I got into entrepreneurship and started
14:22
doing this is that again, it's like
14:24
trying to become a marathon runner when
14:26
you've already been an athlete in a
14:28
different way or something like a
14:30
truly new thing, but I
14:33
had some muscles from some previous,
14:36
that I was able to make
14:38
that connection. Yeah, leverage them. I
14:41
know how to do that. I did it for a
14:43
lot of years. And so I can take my knowledge
14:46
of that and apply it here
14:48
in a different way. Yeah, right.
14:51
And now I am having to
14:53
find my own leads and
14:56
navigate a consult. It
14:58
is different. And push through
15:00
hearing no and all
15:02
of the mind stuff that comes up.
15:04
Okay, let's talk about that. Let's talk
15:06
about that. That's the juicy stuff, right?
15:08
Because when you start hearing no in
15:10
the beginning, right? When you're building your business and you're
15:12
hearing no, I'm not interested or no, that doesn't work.
15:14
Or who do you think you are? Whatever that is.
15:17
It's very easy because you have your
15:19
own self-doubt, right? I always
15:21
picture like your wobbly Bambi, like trying
15:24
to get your legs underneath you. And
15:26
it feels like someone just keeps knocking
15:28
you down. How were you able to
15:30
get past that? I
15:32
think determination, lack
15:35
of willingness to give up. I think I have a
15:37
really strong why. It
15:40
surveys me and is helpful in
15:42
the times that I feel the most
15:44
discouraged. I also am really stubborn. And
15:48
I just like I am going
15:50
to figure this out. Like another part of
15:52
my story. So I certified in October of
15:54
22 and
15:57
worked real hard in Q4 of 22. set
16:00
myself up for what I thought was going to be a
16:02
really strong start to 2023. Okay.
16:05
The week of Christmas in 2022, I got very sick. Oh,
16:11
no. And when I got very sick,
16:13
it led to kind of this chain
16:15
reaction of multiple different health, significant
16:18
health challenges that all hit me
16:20
the week of Christmas. And
16:22
so between Christmas and the
16:25
end of April, the
16:27
first four months of the year,
16:29
I was dealing with MRIs, ultrasounds,
16:32
surgery, multiple doctor's appointments, daily injections,
16:34
all kinds of crazy things that
16:36
came out of nowhere that have
16:39
never experienced anything like this before.
16:42
But that was my first four months of 2023.
16:46
And it was in
16:48
April of 2023 that
16:50
I looked at my numbers and said, I
16:53
have a long way to go to get to the
16:55
goals that I got in December. And
16:58
so it almost added more motivation to figure
17:01
out, okay, so I thought my year was going to start
17:03
one way and it didn't. So now I
17:05
get to go out and figure out how am I going
17:07
to hit these goals? I get to try new things. And
17:10
it kind of motivated me to
17:12
like kick the health issues in the butt
17:15
that I'm going to figure this out anyway.
17:17
Okay, girl, but I am telling you for
17:19
most of us, that would have
17:21
changed the goal, right? We would have been like,
17:23
well, obviously, I'm not going to make six figures
17:25
my first year as a life coach when I
17:28
spend the first four months being sick. Like
17:30
that's not even why would I ask
17:32
that of myself? And you
17:34
have the opposite reaction, right? You're like, oh, now I
17:37
got to double down. I got to work even harder
17:39
because now I have, you know,
17:41
only what, you know, eight months left to
17:43
be able to deliver this to myself. But
17:46
I do think it's like successful
17:48
people, you know, beget, beget,
17:50
beget, beget success. And it's because
17:52
it has not everything to do with
17:55
what needs to be done and
17:57
more just that you're willing to do
17:59
it. Yeah, that's
18:01
it, right? And so your willingness
18:03
to, I'm going to make this
18:05
happen for myself, for my family,
18:07
for my clients, like, that's
18:10
amazing. That's so great. And you have these
18:12
three kids and you're sick and you're starting
18:14
a brand new career. I mean, I think
18:16
it's very inspiring for people to hear because
18:18
some people are like, well, I have a
18:21
kid or I got sick for a month
18:23
too. And they're like, okay, but wait, Kayla
18:26
did it. She has three kids. Like
18:28
when you want to quit and you remember
18:31
these stories of people that made it through,
18:33
it's very inspiring. Yeah. Because it is possible.
18:35
Totally. Yeah, and homeschooling.
18:37
Homeschooling is amazing. And don't forget homeschool, which,
18:39
you know, I did for a year, which
18:42
is actually insane. But I did it for
18:44
a year when I was building my company
18:46
too. I think the other
18:48
thing is I just
18:50
never let doubt creep too
18:52
far in when I
18:54
was building my business. I'd love for you to
18:56
speak about that. It creeps in, but
18:59
I just never let it get too carried away.
19:01
I'm like, yeah, yeah. And
19:03
also we're going to do this. We're going
19:05
to do it. So I think part
19:07
of being a coach by nature is ownership,
19:09
right? I'm
19:12
constantly helping my clients figure out how
19:14
to not be victims to their circumstances
19:17
and what they can take ownership of,
19:19
right? That's the word. And so
19:21
I had lots of opportunities to coach
19:23
most health, lots of opportunities to be
19:25
my best client and
19:28
show myself what it was going to
19:30
look like to not allow circumstances to
19:32
be excuses, to not allow
19:34
circumstances that were, you know,
19:36
valid. I mean, there was some hard stuff
19:39
going on and there have been some other
19:41
really big challenges that have happened this last
19:43
year also. But I
19:45
think just constantly pushing myself
19:47
to look at what do
19:49
I have control over, where when
19:52
I take ownership, I had a couple
19:54
of speaking engagements that I had lined up for during
19:56
that time that I was sick that I had to
19:58
cancel. wasn't cleared to
20:01
travel medically. And so again, it's like,
20:03
I could have said, oh, well, I guess this
20:06
is just gonna be my medical year. And
20:08
I guess I'm just not gonna do the things I
20:10
wanted to do in my business. But
20:12
really, I didn't want to settle for that. And
20:15
I didn't know, I didn't know how the year
20:17
was gonna turn out, but I think through the
20:19
spring, the winter and the
20:22
spring, and I remember having a conversation with
20:24
my husband in April, and I just told
20:26
him, I said, it is go
20:28
time. I had surgery the first
20:30
week of May, and that was kind of
20:33
the wrap up of it all. And from
20:35
that point, it was like, we
20:37
just gotta go. We gotta do this. And
20:39
again, just really looking at what can I
20:41
take ownership of? How do I
20:44
take action? Oh, another thing
20:46
that we haven't mentioned yet in terms
20:48
of the how, is I have virtually
20:50
no social media presence. I
20:53
didn't have a list, I didn't have an audience.
20:55
And I also have done this this
20:57
year without an audience. The
21:00
last time, not that I'm proud of this, but
21:02
I'm just seeing this just to make
21:04
a point, I haven't posted on my Instagram account
21:06
since June. I am not
21:08
good with social media, I don't enjoy it.
21:11
I forget to post on my kid's birthdays, on my
21:13
personal account, because I'm just busy with my kids. You
21:16
know, it's not my thing. I
21:19
have tried to make it my thing. It's
21:21
just not my thing. And so I also
21:23
love for people to know that what I've
21:25
done this year, I've done really without social
21:28
media, and without
21:30
following. Everything I've built
21:32
this last year has been new. New
21:35
people, new connections. I love it. You know
21:37
what I love about this? It's all brand new people.
21:39
People are like, well, I don't have a big social
21:41
media follower, I'm not like you, Brooke. I'm like,
21:43
yeah, for the amount of money that we create
21:46
as a business, we have a very small social
21:48
media following. We have not built our business based
21:50
on that. It doesn't mean that you can't,
21:53
but you don't Have to, I think
21:55
is your point. You Do not have to have that.
21:57
That doesn't have to be the way you do it.
22:00
The and alternatively I think a lot of
22:02
people like will I post on social media
22:04
everyday Why am I not making more money?
22:06
right? It requires more than that the
22:08
able to market yourself and sell the
22:11
product that you have and create the
22:13
value. That. You're creating so I'm
22:15
curious. How are you enjoying it? Because
22:17
your first year. The. Lot of work.
22:20
Yeah. Is onward I but I
22:22
absolutely love it. I feel like
22:24
this is what I was made
22:26
to do Cel Love it! It's been
22:28
super fun I love it. I love
22:31
everything about it. It's been hard they
22:33
are get a lot of work
22:35
to do for sir but I'm just
22:37
love the building and seeing what I'm
22:40
capable Love I love is an entrepreneur.
22:42
My brother and sister in law have
22:44
a long history very connected in
22:46
in entrepreneurship. I've watched them for years
22:49
and I didn't. Have what it takes.
22:51
So it's been really, it's just been
22:53
fine. It's been really fun to do
22:56
it. It's been really fun to prove
22:58
to myself that I can. I love
23:00
watching my clients get results seeing my
23:02
at least ago or so fine her
23:05
and. Not alone in a survey
23:07
My. History of Coaching with
23:09
Organization that I worked for
23:11
was all in Leadership Development
23:13
and Leadership Coaching See so
23:15
I had all these years
23:17
of expertise of We're Supposed
23:20
in Leadership Development. And
23:22
then through my brother and sister Emma
23:24
I was exposed to. Love.
23:28
A lot of entrepreneurs and small business
23:30
owners who needed what I knew. Yeah.
23:33
And I would watch their
23:35
circles be exposed to their
23:37
circles and see. These. Incredible
23:40
visionary world seniors who
23:42
sat that leadership oh
23:44
cause rest. When. They
23:47
are not a and the bill. My.
23:50
is great person is that
23:52
our businesses will never grow
23:54
beyond our capacity to lead
23:57
them yeah you want to
23:59
grow and skill our business, we
24:01
have to grow and skill ourselves. Their
24:04
famous quote that the definition of insanity is
24:06
doing the same thing over and over and
24:08
over and expecting a different result. Same
24:11
thing is true with how we think, with how
24:13
we lead. If we keep thinking
24:15
the way we think, we keep leading the way we're leading,
24:17
we're gonna keep getting the same result in our business. If
24:20
we want our business to grow, if
24:22
we want to expand our
24:25
impact, our influence, our income as an
24:27
entrepreneur, as a small business owner, we
24:30
have to change the way we think, the things
24:32
we do, the way we lead. And
24:34
so again, I was able
24:37
to carry my passion, my
24:39
experience with leadership development into
24:41
my passion for seeing the need, seeing
24:43
so many entrepreneurs where it's like, man,
24:46
if they just had access to this
24:48
content, if they just had access to
24:51
this way of thinking, this way of developing themselves,
24:53
if they could work on these few
24:55
areas, then the sky's the limit, but they can get
24:57
out of their own way. So many
25:00
young, small business owners, we are the bottleneck in
25:02
our business. Oh my gosh, that is so real,
25:04
that is so real. And
25:08
that's why entrepreneurship is so
25:10
fun for me because it's
25:12
constantly, I'm just a self-help,
25:14
self-growth janky, right? So
25:17
entrepreneurship, setting big money goals, blowing
25:19
my own mind just requires me
25:21
to find out who I really
25:23
am. And I love your story
25:26
because you brought so much
25:28
of your experience and so much of
25:30
who you were, but also like 10
25:32
times it in developing into the person
25:34
that you wanted to be. And I
25:36
think that's what growth is about, right?
25:38
It's not rejecting who you
25:40
are, it's embracing who you are, all
25:43
the qualities and the strength that you have. The
25:45
other piece that I love is you're like, I
25:47
just never saw myself that way, right?
25:50
I just never saw myself as someone
25:52
who could stay at home and take care
25:54
of the kids and homeschool them and make
25:56
a decent amount of money working from home
25:59
to help them. support my family and
26:01
that's what I want people to
26:04
know and I feel like so
26:06
many people don't even consider that
26:08
as a possibility, right?
26:10
You know, you look at other people doing you're
26:12
like, oh, they must have some like you look
26:15
at your brother, they must have some special talent
26:17
or some special thing that I don't have but
26:19
we all have it. We all have that. So
26:22
what are you imagining for your future? Tell me.
26:24
Well, it's gonna be a really good year. I
26:29
mean, I have big, big goals,
26:31
big dream. When I think about
26:33
even my goals for this year
26:35
for 2024. Yeah, it's all
26:38
about the value that I'm putting in
26:40
the world, which that's what they I wanted to say.
26:42
I've heard you say this several times.
26:44
And this has been something that's really guided me, I
26:47
think has been a big piece of
26:49
my success this last year is is
26:52
I have not approached my business from
26:54
an angle of where am I going
26:56
to find clients? How am I going to find my
26:58
next client? Where can I find a
27:00
client? I have really approached
27:02
this year as where can
27:05
I put value into the world?
27:07
Yes, girl. Yes. I
27:09
know entrepreneurs need this work
27:11
that I do. How can
27:13
I get into the room
27:15
where entrepreneurs are where they're
27:17
already hanging out and bring
27:19
value to those rooms and
27:21
serve and it's been so
27:23
smart, constant looking to
27:25
serve looking for opportunities to
27:27
share content to make connections
27:29
to build relationships. That's
27:32
how I've built my business. And there hasn't
27:34
been a frantic
27:37
scarcity of where's men of contact
27:39
come from. There's really been
27:41
a focus on where can I serve?
27:43
How can I serve? Where can I
27:45
add value? Because if I want to
27:47
make six figures in my first year,
27:49
I have to put six figures worth
27:51
of value into the world. Yes, then
27:53
my focus and so on. Wait, wait,
27:55
wait, wait, wait, wait, we have to
27:57
stop talking right this second and repeat
27:59
that. That is the crux
28:01
of everything and I've never heard it
28:04
better said than that say it again If
28:07
I said if I want to make
28:09
six figures in My business in
28:11
my first year of business or in any year of business or
28:13
my goal this year is quite a bit higher than that If
28:16
I want to make what I want to make this
28:18
year, then I have to put that
28:20
much value into the
28:22
world Don't wait to
28:25
get paid until you put the value
28:27
in the world Just put the value
28:29
in the world and believe that it
28:31
will come to you if you keep
28:33
putting it in there That is genius.
28:36
Right those of you who aren't making the money
28:38
you want to make this month Have you put
28:40
that much value into the world and
28:42
the best news is that the answer is
28:44
no You know what you need to do
28:46
totally? So I think that's been key
28:49
and the other other thing that's been a really
28:51
key Because I talk to people who say
28:53
well, I'm putting value in the world. I'm posting on social media
28:55
17 times a week Yeah,
28:57
but if you're talking to the same
29:00
people, right or the algorithms are
29:02
hiding your content That can't
29:04
be the only place that you're putting your content
29:06
out that you're putting your value out Right
29:09
now for some people who have a big audience
29:11
who have a lot of people listening That's
29:13
a very successful way for them to build Great
29:16
go for it and also what
29:18
are other rooms you can get in?
29:20
What are other ways that you can
29:23
contribute and really been my focus because
29:25
I haven't been using social media is
29:27
how do I? Bring
29:29
value to the world bring
29:31
value to entrepreneurs to small
29:33
business owners Bring them the
29:35
knowledge that I have the expertise that I
29:37
have in leadership development How do I do that
29:39
in a way that serves that adds value? But
29:42
that constantly gets me in front of new people
29:44
Listen when you say that this
29:47
is so important when you say
29:49
well I am putting value
29:51
into the world because I'm posting on
29:53
social media. No, you're not the one
29:55
that determines what is valuable The
29:57
person that you're providing the value to is
30:00
the one that determines it. So you can't
30:02
just say, well, I feel like it's value.
30:04
I put it on a billboard in the
30:06
middle of the desert. I'm putting value into
30:08
the world. No, you're not. The value is
30:10
determined by the people receiving it. So it's
30:12
the same people over and over and over
30:14
again, and they're not wanting to work with
30:16
you. It's not valuable to them. Go
30:19
find some people who it will be
30:21
valuable to. This is genius. So
30:24
I've worked really hard on getting
30:27
into new rooms. Yes. In
30:29
relationship, building power partnerships, building
30:31
know, like, and trust. Yes.
30:33
Connectors who've helped me get
30:35
into other rooms. Love it.
30:37
And the combination of that
30:40
with my mindset of it's my job
30:42
to show up and serve, it's my
30:45
value into the world. I think those
30:47
two things are why my business grew
30:49
very quickly. And I'm on target to
30:52
do a lot more this year. Let's
30:54
go. It's so fun. Because all of
30:56
that represents leaders, right? I just had
30:59
a client this morning, and they're
31:01
sharing with me how much has shifted
31:03
for them since we've been working together
31:06
and how their culture of their
31:08
company has shifted and how the way they
31:10
think has shifted and how it's
31:12
impacted their marriage. It's a married
31:14
couple who runs multiple businesses together.
31:16
Yeah. How work has impacted their
31:19
marriage, how it's impacted their relationship
31:21
with their kids, how it's impacted
31:23
the way they lead their employees,
31:25
how it's impacted the way they
31:27
make decisions. I mean, so it's
31:29
so dang fun to see these
31:31
changes happen to see these
31:34
leaders who I love entrepreneur small business
31:36
owners get these breakthroughs that helps them
31:38
take themselves their life and their businesses
31:40
to the next level. Well, and this
31:43
is what I'm constantly wanting to celebrate
31:45
is exactly what you're saying is like,
31:47
when I find someone that can
31:50
help me do something that I
31:52
want to do, and I pay
31:54
them to be my coach,
31:57
I love paying them. Yeah.
32:00
And you as my coach
32:02
love being paid and creating
32:04
value. So it's not like,
32:06
oh, they didn't want to pay me, but
32:08
they had to, no, I won't
32:11
pay you. It's like the best magical
32:13
symbiotic experience you can have, right? Because
32:15
it's like a win, win, win, win,
32:18
win, win, win for everybody. So
32:20
I love, love, love that for you.
32:22
So your clients are happy to hire you. They
32:24
want to keep working with you. They're benefiting so
32:26
much from what you're doing and
32:29
you're creating the success in their lives
32:31
with them and also in your life, in
32:33
your business. This is what it's all
32:35
about, Kayla. So what if someone wants to
32:37
hire you? What if someone's like, okay, now I got it. Now
32:39
I got to get to meet some of that. Well,
32:42
you can go to my website. My
32:44
website is just my name. It's
32:46
Kayla with a C, kaylahori.com. Okay.
32:50
So here they're- Let me spell
32:52
it. Let me spell it. It's
32:54
C-A-Y-L-A-H-O-R-E-Y. Yep.
32:57
Dot com. Yeah, perfect. See my website.
33:00
I am on Instagram, KaylaHoriCoaching. She
33:02
just never posts there, y'all. I
33:05
don't do much there, but you can find
33:07
me there and send me a DM or yeah,
33:09
go through my website. I am on LinkedIn. I
33:12
also don't post on LinkedIn, but I'm on LinkedIn.
33:14
Okay. If you're awesome, then I
33:16
am on Instagram. So those are kind of the
33:18
places to find me and see some of the
33:20
work that I'm doing. I will say go to
33:22
my social. It's not very impressive. All
33:25
of it is in my website, but it hasn't needed
33:27
to be. This
33:30
is a funny story. I got a DM
33:32
on LinkedIn from someone who
33:34
was trying to sell me
33:37
his services and he said, hey,
33:39
I looked up your website.
33:41
I was really interested in the work that
33:43
you do, but I looked at your website
33:45
and it's pretty outdated. And
33:47
so I forget how he worded it, but he
33:49
basically said, because your website's
33:52
not very impressive, you kind of lost me as
33:54
a client, but if you
33:56
let my team come in and
33:58
fancy up your website, then. and
34:00
you'll get clients like me and others.
34:02
Okay, how was this pitch? Very clever.
34:04
So I wrote them back and I
34:06
said, thank you so much for your
34:08
input. I totally agree, but I haven't
34:10
needed anything fancier than this and I've
34:12
built a rockin' six figure plus business.
34:15
So I haven't needed to, thanks.
34:17
Yes, that's amazing. I
34:20
love it. I love, love, love it.
34:22
You know, my website, like obviously, like
34:24
everything I teach is get a website,
34:27
do social media, like do all the
34:29
things, but what is gonna help
34:31
you succeed and help you succeed quickly
34:33
is your mindset and
34:35
is what you had said about creating the
34:38
value and making sure you're creating
34:40
value not in the wind, but to the
34:42
people who value it. That's what you're saying,
34:44
getting yourself into the rooms with the people
34:47
who value what you have to offer them.
34:50
It is such an important message. Also,
34:52
the message of the example that you're
34:54
setting is amazing. Not everyone is gonna
34:57
make six figures in their first year,
35:00
but it is possible for some of you to do it. And
35:03
it is possible to do it
35:05
when you get sick, it's possible to do
35:07
it when you have three kids at home,
35:09
when you're homeschooling them, and when
35:11
you've never been an entrepreneur before.
35:14
It is possible. Please believe everybody
35:16
in your own possibilities. Okay, one
35:18
last thing. If you were gonna give a brand
35:21
new coach just got certified a
35:23
piece of advice, what would it
35:25
be? Meet new people. Meet
35:28
new people. Let them know you can help
35:30
them. And that can happen online, right? That
35:32
can happen online, that can happen in person.
35:34
You get to decide where you wanna meet
35:36
new people, but saying the same stuff
35:39
over and over to the same people is not gonna
35:41
build your business. You have to meet
35:43
new people. And that focus
35:45
of where are you putting value into
35:47
the world, your job
35:49
is to provide value and
35:51
the clients will come. So focusing on
35:54
how are you putting value into the
35:56
world and how are you Meeting
35:58
new people, connecting. In a new
36:00
from getting a new Rams social media
36:03
app were in real life to have
36:05
conversations and bring that valued some new
36:07
groups of people and those are the
36:09
two things that have our impacted the
36:11
speed at which I built my business.
36:13
Love it love it! Thank you so
36:16
much for coming on the show and
36:18
being such an amazing example of what
36:20
is possible. I'm so proud of you!
