Ian worked for Epson in Japan for over 15 years, becoming the first and only non-Japanese person to achieve the position of General Manager in charge of Marketing and Communications. He became fluent in Japanese during his time there.

Ian taught Sudachi business school that was conducted entirely in Japanese, and currently lives in Kelowna BC with his wife, two kids, and a dog.
