2:59

How are you doing man? I'm great.

3:01

It's NCAA Tournament time. I am going

3:03

to go to the NCAA Tournament on

3:06

Friday. Possibly Sunday depending on

3:08

how it all shakes out.

3:11

But been watching the games,

3:14

watch the first four. Watch these games that

3:16

have been going on today. We are recording

3:18

in between those games

3:20

this afternoon as some of the

3:22

NBA prospects are playing. And

3:25

then tonight there's a

3:27

great NBA slate. So don't get mad at

3:29

us as we are releasing this

3:31

early on a Thursday that we are

3:33

not covering what took place on the Thursday

3:35

night games. But we will get you ready

3:37

for this stretch run of the NBA with

3:40

players that are standing out to us and

3:42

those that we are going to keep our

3:44

eye on for the next couple of weeks

3:46

as we head quickly towards the

3:48

playoffs. Regarding the NCAA Tournament,

3:50

this matters. One of your functions at

3:52

the Ringer is always putting together not

3:54

only a draft guide but a mock draft

3:56

and heading up the

3:59

draft content. theringer.com.

4:02

The NCAA tournament can

4:05

greatly alter big

4:09

boards, mock drafts, how

4:11

many millions of dollars these guys are going

4:14

to make or how many millions of dollars

4:16

they're not going to make dependent on what

4:18

in some cases is, you

4:21

know, what some of these guys it's

4:23

one and done for some of them

4:26

they might play five, six games in

4:28

the NCAA tournament and change their draft

4:30

stock dramatically. I

4:33

really look forward to this every single

4:35

year. We see it happen every

4:38

year with teams and players

4:40

that go far in the tournament and

4:43

all of a sudden they are looked

4:45

at radically differently. I'm

4:47

going to go through some of the guys that

4:50

you have on your big board. The

4:52

first of which is very,

4:54

very high on your big board. Way

4:57

out of my way to flip

4:59

on the Colorado game. Cody

5:02

Williams before we're going or Tristan De Silva. Who

5:04

are you going with? Okay,

5:06

De Silva was really good. Excellent.

5:09

The guard who's not on any draft boards,

5:11

he's a dog. He's the one. KJ Simpson.

5:14

He's the one that stood out to me

5:16

watching the game. I'm like, give me this

5:18

guy. This guy is like a sugsy

5:21

and as tough

5:23

as he is. But buddy,

5:25

I went to tune in Jaylen Williams, little

5:27

brother Cody Williams, who was very high on

5:30

these draft boards and I got a big

5:32

nothing. Like

5:34

a literal nothing. I think he had zero, didn't

5:36

he? Yeah. And he was, I mean,

5:38

he's also playing limited minutes. He injured his ankle

5:40

in February and he's playing through it right now.

5:43

So you don't want to read

5:45

too much into Cody Williams

5:48

struggles as of late, considering he's

5:50

playing less minutes to get earlier in the year. He's

5:52

dealing with injury, but you would

5:54

like to see him actually doing something out there.

5:57

And that's where hopefully over the course of the month,

5:59

it's called. Colorado wins some games on Friday.

6:01

They have a game against Florida. Tough

6:04

opponent they on that side. Zion Pullen

6:06

is my favorite sleeper in the entire

6:09

draft. 6 foot 4 guard good

6:11

senior, so you'll see him go against KJ

6:13

Simpson from the Colorado side. But Cody Williams

6:15

would be nice if he had

6:17

a big game off the bench. You know, cut

6:19

some cuts for Rams and spot up three some

6:21

hard nose defensive plays he just. Hasn't

6:23

really been able to make a big impact with

6:26

that injury, it seems. Do you

6:28

think he has helped greatly because

6:30

of the incredible success of his

6:32

brother? And do you

6:34

think that? You know,

6:36

a benefit of the doubt will

6:39

exist in a way that might

6:41

not because his

6:43

brother has turned into one of the great draft

6:45

picks. Yeah, in a

6:48

way perhaps. I mean, I think for me.

6:51

I had him 20 back in August when

6:53

it was going only off

6:55

of college film. And

6:57

then I've had him in my top five since like he

7:00

he burst it out. I had a great start to the

7:02

season with Colorado. He is a talented player. He's

7:05

got size. He is somebody who has

7:08

shown versatility at 6667 ability to handle

7:10

the ball. You know, create

7:12

offense, finishing at the basket. You know,

7:14

like his like his brother, you like

7:17

that potential versatility. Does he get the

7:19

benefit of the doubt? I don't. I don't think so. I

7:23

mean, he's down to five on my board

7:25

right now. I'll probably drop him a

7:27

little bit more, but like I said, I don't want to. I

7:30

don't want to overreact because think about

7:32

last year with Brandon Miller.

7:34

Brandon Miller gets hurt late in the

7:37

season. He struggles in the tournaments, but

7:39

he's playing through the injury. It kind of,

7:41

I think in the eyes of some evaluators

7:43

overshadowed what he did mid year when he

7:45

was getting better and trending up so for

7:47

Cody Williams. He's dealt with multiple injuries this

7:50

year. He hasn't been able to bounce

7:52

back from that. That in and

7:54

of itself is a concern. You'd like to

7:56

see him still producing through pain, but

7:59

I'm not. I'm not gonna overreact and like move from

8:01

down to 20 or anything like that. I think that was

8:04

too low I think I think if anything

8:06

you can look at it Like

8:08

with his brother Jean Williams. He

8:10

wasn't a one-and-done He

8:12

was somebody it took multiple years to become

8:15

a lottery prospect and Cody Williams is probably

8:17

a bit of head of schedule right now

8:19

So I wouldn't I don't think

8:21

it has anything to do with his brother

8:23

necessarily No It's gonna be interesting

8:26

to see because some of these guys that are

8:28

young that they get into this situation for the

8:30

first time You know even

8:32

North Carolina, you know beat the piss out

8:34

of their first-round opponent as what's expected But

8:36

that Elliott Cadeaux who I actually saw in

8:38

high school last year. I went to the

8:40

Nike Eybl circuit and

8:42

saw him and he was the

8:44

best player Probably that I

8:47

saw outside of Cooper flag. He was great

8:49

But I mean again love a freshman thrown

8:51

into the mix He hit that huge shot

8:53

against Duke a couple weeks ago, but I

8:55

mean he did nothing in their game today

8:57

He's a little bit lower on your board,

8:59

but you just do wonder he probably even

9:01

he probably doesn't belong on the board to

9:03

be honest With Chris Lee, I don't think

9:05

he should be a one-and-done because just talent.

9:07

Yeah, right. It's just down Yeah, I had

9:09

him top 10 prior to the season back

9:11

in that August board and he's in the

9:14

30s now He probably

9:16

doesn't even belong on it if

9:18

we're being totally real here Like he's 30

9:20

because he's still a name I think that's

9:22

worth monitoring During the tournament

9:24

like North Carolina Like he said there were one seat

9:27

that might go to a final four could do

9:29

it starts actually hitting threes Like

9:31

he is just missing the jumper. That's

9:34

it Like he is a tough hard-nosed

9:36

defender that dude dives on the floor

9:38

Like he like he gets rips and

9:40

his compression shorts from his hustle and

9:42

his effort. He's a great playmaker He's

9:45

so cerebral as a freshman. It's just gonna be

9:47

a matter of Can he

9:49

shoot which is the question for so many guys? I

9:51

think he's worth at least monitoring, you

9:53

know for now But really the main prospect on

9:55

that North Carolina team is is

9:57

Harrison Ingram their upperclassman And

10:00

you know, he's talking Tate about him Tate

10:02

obviously at Tar Heels guy Ingram hasn't shot

10:05

the ball as much recently Well with

10:07

a wrist injury, but I still like Ingram

10:09

versatile guy, you know playmaker big, you

10:12

know his size at six seven six eight

10:15

He's probably you know gonna be a early second

10:17

round pick. I would think this is sure guys

10:19

that could fall down the

10:21

list Depending on what happens at

10:24

the tournament. We started with Cody Williams I

10:26

I tried to highlight some guys that if

10:29

they're Bracket falls the

10:31

right way could go on run So

10:33

maybe guys a little bit lower on

10:35

your big board list that because those

10:37

are the guys with the greatest opportunity,

10:39

right? They don't look like a

10:41

top half of the first round pick right now but

10:44

maybe we look up and their teams in the final

10:46

four their teams in the elite eight and They've

10:49

been a huge part of it or the

10:51

reason that they're there and so Ex-out

10:54

Colorado, they've got the two guys there for sure,

10:56

you know Shepherd and Dillingham I Guess

10:59

could go higher But they're they're

11:01

very very high on these mock

11:03

drafts as are the Yukon kids

11:06

and the Yukon kids are great Castle

11:09

and Clinging and they're the

11:11

first rounders, but you know, they have Caravan

11:13

and Spencer who could be such around pics.

11:16

So they have multiple guys that are you

11:18

know, NBA caliber prospects When I looked

11:20

and I was looking down I was thinking

11:22

so as I got down the list No

11:26

idea what to do with McCullers. Obviously if he's

11:28

gonna be out for Kansas don't connect

11:30

who you have towards the

11:33

you know, the I think you got him at 14

11:36

I think under a big board something like

11:38

that Like it don't connect through the Tennessee

11:40

team on his back and it's in the

11:42

final four or in the final game or

11:44

something You can obviously see him people

11:47

start to try to make him a top 10 top

11:49

5 pick It feels like

11:51

this year for the NCAA tournament

11:54

that this is wide open when you look at

11:56

you see Cody Williams 5 That

11:58

if I throw a team back and

12:01

everybody's watching me and I'm playing in the sweet

12:03

16, the Elite eight and the Final Four and

12:06

I'm going huge. You're gonna

12:08

look at me a lot differently

12:10

and it's not like there's a

12:12

set group of guys that everybody

12:14

has. It feels like

12:16

everybody's top five, top ten

12:19

could be radically different this year in

12:22

a much different

12:25

scenario than almost any year.

12:28

We have these every once in a while where

12:30

it's an open door that

12:32

you could walk into into the

12:34

top ten but it is

12:36

rare. There's

12:39

a pretty settled nine to

12:41

ten guys that

12:43

most everybody's gonna have in

12:45

the same range. They might

12:47

have one a little bit higher than the other. So

12:51

I put connect, EDI

12:53

obviously could. Some

12:56

people already put them in the lottery. Gavoni

13:00

has them in the lottery and now over at ESPN

13:02

which I mean I

13:04

think it's something that's noteworthy at least.

13:06

A lot of people like Wasserman at

13:08

Bleacher Report still has EDI in the

13:10

30s or 40s. I have them

13:12

in the 20s right now so I'm kind of between those

13:14

guys. But EDI

13:17

with his size and with his

13:21

skill and with

13:23

the importance of bigs in today's NBA, EDI

13:25

has a good month for Purdue. They've been

13:27

one and done in the tournament in two

13:29

out of three years Purdue's made

13:31

it. They made one sweet 16. If they

13:34

can make another sweet 16 or Elite 8 or

13:36

they should be a Final Four team and

13:39

if EDI can survive defensively,

13:41

not just survive but make

13:43

a positive impact defensively, that

13:45

I think a lot of people are gonna

13:47

move towards Gavoni and having him in the

13:49

late lottery considering the need for bigs and

13:52

not every team is gonna

13:54

be an EDI team. But

13:57

I think about pairing

13:59

him... as a weapon in a front court with

14:01

Chet and a front court

14:04

with Lemby, like those younger centers in

14:06

the Western Conference, guys who can play

14:08

the four or play the five.

14:11

To me, that's the ideal fit

14:14

for Edie. In my opinion, I think that's the

14:16

best home for him is next to a guy

14:18

like that, where he can play 20 to 25

14:20

minutes per game, maybe more, maybe a little bit

14:22

less, depending on the opponent in a seven game

14:24

series. I'm jumping way ahead here. But to me,

14:26

that's the ideal situation for

14:28

him with a versatile fight, a versatile

14:31

big like Chet, like Lemby, where like

14:33

maybe his his perimeter concerns aren't as

14:35

much of a worry next to somebody

14:37

like that. Think about how like the

14:39

Celtics use Robert Williams and Al Horford

14:42

last year. Just think about like that

14:44

concept is what I mean. This guy

14:46

doesn't move his feet like that. You

14:48

know, I know he doesn't. I know.

14:50

Rob Williams can, you know, stand up.

14:53

I do think how

14:56

about Brook Lopez? Yeah. Like

14:58

something like that, where he's just drop, drop, drop,

15:01

drop, and then Janus is helping

15:03

off and just disturbing everything around

15:05

the rim. So I think

15:07

the Walker Kessler thing helps him. Yeah,

15:09

another big lug who, you know,

15:12

Kessler was a great defender in

15:14

college, though, too. I gotcha. I

15:16

gotcha. But he was somebody that people

15:18

thought this is going to go one

15:20

way or the other. And I think with Edie, I will

15:22

say this for him. Edie has been

15:24

looked at like a sideshow. Right?

15:27

Like he's your Boban. He's your

15:29

Taco Fall. He's your, he's better

15:32

than Boban. Like he'll be better than Boban.

15:34

Right? Can we agree on that? Think,

15:37

you know, I mean, I think that there's a

15:39

general consensus or was and he has gone from

15:41

that, for a much higher

15:43

opinion. And if he murders everybody

15:45

and takes him to a friggin national championship,

15:47

I know he's gonna end up. I know

15:49

where he's gonna end up on these draft

15:51

boards. Right? I feel like his could swing

15:53

dramatically. If they lost a friggin

15:55

Grambling or something, people

15:58

are gonna be like to hell with him. Yeah,

16:00

he's freaking boba and Purdue place tomorrow

16:02

on Friday, right right today Yeah today

16:05

today when you listen to this podcast

16:07

Purdue Grambling 425 p.m A

16:10

couple other guys that were a little bit lower

16:13

that are teams that I could foresee making a

16:15

run The Marquette kids

16:17

hopefully Tyler Colic is gonna be okay,

16:19

but you good or oh and Colic

16:22

dude, you get you good or always like

16:24

Taylor made for the NBA, isn't he? Yeah,

16:27

and very versatile versatile guy

16:30

6-9 smart player just

16:32

like he just reminds me of kind of the year,

16:34

you know where it was like You

16:37

know you got Grant Williams You know you got some

16:39

solid old Brandon Clark like these upperclassmen who are just

16:41

smart players and the what was that 20 or 21?

16:44

Draft one of those two years like you

16:46

get the door is just gonna be a

16:48

good NBA player straight up a good player

16:50

and another Kid that's great on that Marquette

16:53

team is Cam Jones who I have an

16:55

awareness of he's Memphis kid

16:57

Yeah, and so I've had an awareness

16:59

of him for a long time and kept up

17:01

with what he's doing and rooted him on He's

17:06

great He's unbelievable high school player and obviously he's

17:08

had a very very good first couple of years

17:10

at Marquette But that Marquette team could make a

17:12

run and then people are gonna look at those

17:14

kids and go You know what man? They got

17:17

some pros on this team That

17:19

could maybe move up and then another

17:21

one that I marked down He's

17:24

low on your big board but

17:26

I'm mentioning him because in their first round gave me a 26

17:29

and it's another team that you look at

17:31

their bracket and I'm like, yeah They

17:33

could make a run because I was trying to mark

17:36

up You know, I mean,

17:38

of course, I'm gonna be wrong about the

17:40

tournament But I was trying to mark up

17:42

who could who do you have listed on

17:44

teams that I could foresee making a run

17:47

that are a little bit lower and One

17:50

of them actually worked out perfectly for

17:52

this exact purpose today and it

17:55

was tarrant Shannon jr Illinois game

17:58

he had 26 And

18:00

he shot nine threes because that's one of the things

18:02

you always pay attention to right? It's like, okay, here's

18:04

a wing How do you shoot

18:06

from three? He made I think he's three for nine from

18:09

three today, but he had 26 points Obviously

18:12

rugged guy. I mean you can't you can't

18:14

play for that coach Brad Underwood

18:18

and be some Shrinking violet

18:20

so you kind of know what

18:22

then Tarrant Shannon was one. I think you had

18:24

him it Yeah, you

18:26

had 39 Again,

18:28

and I don't know where he should be right

18:31

now I had no real opinion of Tarrant Shannon,

18:33

but it who steals two blocks like I know

18:35

what they like guys that could shoot threes

18:38

or will shoot threes Guys

18:40

that are tough and guys that get steals

18:42

and blocks like NBA teams love those Right.

18:45

And so when I see 26 to

18:48

steals two blocks I know

18:50

there was somebody that was watching

18:52

that from an NBA perspective going hey Maybe

18:54

we should take a longer look at Tarrant Shannon jr He

18:58

had a layup in the first

19:00

half. I was watching earlier today I was you

19:02

know flipping around games when my eyes were on

19:04

him He had this play where he

19:06

got the ball like right at the half court

19:09

line over He just he looked like Westbrook's just

19:11

going downhill Hard dribble, you

19:13

know what play I'm talking about where like he

19:15

like crossed over in the lane and it looked

19:17

like he was gonna Go with a alrighty layup

19:19

and he went with the lefty layup and left

19:22

side It was like this absurd attacking layup like

19:25

that That's like the type of play you see on

19:27

the break where you're like, oh, what about

19:29

open floor? NBA spacing pick and

19:31

roll with a really good screener that you could

19:33

see a lot of finishing like that I like

19:35

Shannon a lot and he definitely should be higher

19:38

on my board But I'm just saying he's one

19:40

of those that when you're watching right they

19:42

win a game that win a game They win

19:44

a game now all of a sudden everybody's gonna

19:46

be talking about this guy who's helping, Illinois do

19:49

it for sure I mean and there's a game

19:51

currently happening as we speak Date

19:54

Nevada Dayton making a massive comeback right now

19:56

Dayton is and they're on homes. I have

19:58

him in the 30s He's

20:01

somebody who could end up in the

20:03

teams. It wouldn't shock me if

20:05

Dayton ends up making a run or even if

20:07

they don't. Like, DeRon Holmes is the type of

20:10

guy, the only reason he's in the 30s on

20:12

my board and why he's not like a lottery

20:14

pick on a lot of people's boards is because

20:16

of the strength of schedule. Dayton is just, they

20:18

just don't face a lot of great teams. And

20:21

so DeRon Holmes doesn't have a great sample size

20:23

of a six foot 11 guy who can shoot

20:25

threes and versatile defensively can block shots. You just

20:27

want to see him against higher quality talent. But

20:29

I think with pre-draft workouts,

20:31

the NBA draft combine, if

20:34

he competes in the scrimmages,

20:36

if Holmes excels in those

20:38

formats, it's not going to

20:40

shock me one bit if DeRon Holmes is somebody

20:42

that rises way up draft boards and you see

20:45

him littered around the mid-late

20:47

lottery or late teams come

20:50

June. Say this, I've

20:52

got a buddy that's on their staff who

20:54

I became friends with over the years, James

20:57

Kane, who is the guy that discovered Moran.

20:59

He discovered him in a side auxiliary

21:01

gym. And then he and

21:03

that group went to Iowa State.

21:08

They had, guess who? Halliburton.

21:10

Guess who? Taylor Horton

21:13

Tucker. Then that group

21:15

is now at Dayton. And they've

21:17

got a couple of pros these last couple

21:19

of days. They have been good at finding

21:22

these like, you know, you try

21:24

to find the people that are like the

21:26

under the radar guys. That end up being

21:28

way better. Obviously, Moran and Halliburton are two

21:30

of the great recruiting slash what they

21:32

became in the NBA success stories

21:34

ever. You know, the

21:36

overlooked for some reason or not

21:39

thought of in the same class

21:41

as many of their peers as

21:43

high school players. And yet became literally

21:46

all NBA talent. You

21:49

know? And so, and that's

21:51

Anthony Grant that's at Dayton, who's

21:53

recruited a lot of big time athletes. Both

21:56

at Florida, for years at

21:58

Florida under Billy Donovan. And then

22:00

he had that Alabama job for a while and now

22:02

he's at Dayton, but he's

22:05

recruited some players as well. So

22:07

if they found one in that kid, you're talking

22:09

about it would not shock me. And

22:12

the thing I really love about Holmes is he

22:14

has gotten better every single year. Like

22:16

he's gone back to school and he's worked on

22:18

the things that he had to get better at,

22:20

and even in the final minute of this game,

22:22

I just saw he defended one on one on

22:24

a switch, forced a turnover, Dayton gets the ball

22:27

back 15 seconds left at the free throw line.

22:29

And I mean, that is the thing with him

22:31

is if he did this, if he does this

22:33

throughout the month, like if Dayton holds on and

22:36

wins this game, which it seems like they, they

22:38

might we'll see. Uh, and if they

22:40

continue winning games, if he does

22:42

this against proven opponents, I believe next round

22:44

in the bracket, let me, let me check

22:46

who date they were down like 17. So

22:49

yeah, down 17 and Holmes is

22:51

that had a big second half. Like I obviously

22:53

were recording, so I didn't catch everything at the

22:55

end, but they face Arizona next

22:57

round. If they hold off and win this

22:59

game, Arizona, like if you're in

23:02

that bracket, then maybe if you win that game

23:04

and then who knows who you can end up

23:06

facing on the other side of it, there's

23:08

some intriguing match ups against a lot of

23:11

NBA caliber prospects that that's

23:13

what scouts want to see. DeRon

23:15

Holmes go against. And so it's

23:17

the best, it's exactly. And so I think

23:19

for him, this is a great first test

23:22

granted, you know, it's, it's against a 10

23:24

seed in Nevada. It's not, you know, you're

23:26

like, you're facing a two seed, like Arizona.

23:29

I got you, but you got to look at

23:31

these and go, who does these, you know, where

23:33

are the match ups that kind of set up

23:35

nicely for these guys? Because they

23:37

are, you know, I even see both

23:39

like Kentucky and Marquette, if they are

23:41

able to do what they're supposed to do in

23:44

the first two rounds, they're going to play

23:46

each other. Yeah. Isn't that awesome? Are

23:48

you guys like to me, like I,

23:50

I mean, I want a, I want

23:52

entertaining games. I want the funnest possible

23:55

games. That's my priority watching March Madness.

23:57

But B, I want the

23:59

best. That's

24:03

just the reality of how I watch the March

24:05

Madness a lot of the time. It's like fun

24:07

and match ups for draft purposes. So

24:10

sorry to take Frazier with one shiny podcast,

24:13

but that's my priorities. Oh,

25:05

look, we obviously are going to

25:07

be keeping up with the NCAA tournament and everything

25:09

that happens regarding the draft. But

25:11

today what we are going to do is we have

25:14

challenged ourselves to come up with five guys

25:17

that we are keeping our eye on as we are

25:19

in this home stretch, these last 15, 20 games

25:21

before we get to the NBA playoffs.

25:23

It is a fool's

25:26

errand for us to every day

25:28

talk about the standings and where

25:31

these teams are in the standings

25:33

because I look and like this

25:36

morning when I was looking at stuff, I was like,

25:38

the pace is in six. I'm

25:40

like, okay. All right. So, but again,

25:43

you can look up by

25:45

the time we record our next podcast and

25:47

we're talking about a team's kind of on

25:49

court advantage. The other team is like, so

25:51

to try to figure out how this is all going

25:54

to shake out is very, very difficult

25:56

and hanging on every

25:58

individual outcome. that takes

26:00

place. I was very depressed. I

26:03

really thought we were going to come on this

26:05

Thursday show and be able to blow it out talking

26:08

about the the Bucks in the

26:10

Celtics. But that just was not meant to be

26:12

with Giannis not playing in the game. I get

26:14

that it ended up close at the end. But

26:16

I mean, again, we're evaluating this on what would

26:19

this look like as an Eastern finals? And

26:22

that can't tell me what this

26:24

would look like as an Eastern finals.

26:27

And so it's a shame because we have

26:29

we've had a very high hit rate of

26:31

the great games that we have looked forward

26:33

to should be a really good slate on

26:35

Thursday night. Unfortunately, for the NBA, the NCAA

26:37

tournament is going to be going out at

26:39

the same time. But there are a lot

26:41

of good matchups. Anyways, Nick Snuggits, that'll be

26:43

a really fun one, I think. Really good.

26:45

There's a magic game that's really good as

26:47

well. I think pelicans. Yeah, magic pelicans. Very

26:49

good. Yeah, that's starting in 10 minutes. Yep.

26:53

All right. Here's the deal.

26:55

Five players that we've got our

26:57

eye on as we head

27:00

towards the NBA playoffs for whatever

27:02

reason. You've got your eye on these

27:04

players. They're standing out to you. Do you want to

27:06

start or you want me to go first? I'll start

27:08

off. I want to start off with a with a

27:10

player that this fan base will be happy that I'm

27:12

mentioning. They don't like me. That's

27:15

okay. Keon Ellis. Keon

27:18

Ellis went viral for the wrong reasons. You

27:20

finally talk about

27:24

the Kings and you're

27:26

not bringing up. That's

27:29

crazy. We can bring up

27:31

Delos, but Keon Ellis went

27:33

viral for the wrong reasons when Jalen

27:35

Bronson called for a screen and Ellis

27:37

Scott caught looking. But the

27:40

Kings are seven and Oh, when Ellis

27:42

is a starter, they're eight and one when

27:44

he plays over 21 minutes. They have the

27:46

number four defensive rating in the NBA this

27:48

month. And when Ellis was on the floor

27:51

this month, they're allowing one on one point

27:53

one point for 100 possessions on defense. And

27:55

when he's off the floor this month, they're

27:57

allowing one 11.4. points

28:00

for 100 possessions. So Ellis

28:02

has been just this, like

28:04

despite that viral play, just this

28:06

tenacious point of attack

28:09

defender, six three, long six nine wingspan.

28:11

He gets in everybody's airspace. He's versatile.

28:13

He can switch. He sets a tone.

28:15

They're not offense. He's a 40 plus

28:17

percent guy from three who doesn't make

28:19

dumb decisions. He's a smart player. He

28:22

plays his role. He can fit next

28:24

to sub-bonus. He can fit next to

28:26

Fox. He can fit next to everybody

28:28

on that roster. And now with Kevin

28:30

Herder out with injury, I

28:33

would think Ellis should be playing even more minutes. He

28:35

shouldn't be hovering around 20, 25 every night. He

28:38

should be at 30, 35 every night with

28:41

the impact that he's making on this team. And I

28:43

think for the Kings, this is something that they were

28:45

missing. It's what they hoped for

28:47

from Davion Mitchell, except he also brings it

28:49

on offense. And so you start games with,

28:51

you get Ellis starting now and then Mitchell

28:53

coming off the bench for spurts going hard

28:56

on defense. This is why the Kings defense

28:58

has a much better this month. It's

29:01

interesting you say it. Sometimes you trip

29:03

into something. Something

29:05

that would not have ever taken place

29:08

under other or normal circumstances

29:11

takes place. And then you find, oh my God, we've

29:13

had this sitting there the whole time, like

29:16

this guy. And do you think it moves the

29:18

needle at all in terms of what you think

29:20

their playoff chances are?

29:22

No. What

29:25

a dick. I

29:33

love it. All

29:37

right. No, it doesn't. And by the way, you know, I have this

29:40

sitting on my desk. The Kings sent me this for

29:42

a, what is that? All star

29:44

voting. Oh, Domas and

29:46

Fox. It's a lunchbox. There

29:48

you go. I love lunchbox. I should

29:50

give this away to a Kings fan. That'd be like a cool

29:52

giveaway thing. It would be a cool giveaway. P.S.

29:55

before I get to mine, cause I'm going to

29:57

ruin your life by taking somebody that's probably on

29:59

your list. Okay Dayton

30:03

ended the game that we were just talking about on

30:05

a 24 to 4 run and

30:07

your guy got the walk-off interview

30:09

Yeah, and he's been headband game

30:11

is strong Just

30:15

on site looks like a perfect

30:19

Good-looking guy league fits guy You

30:22

know, I could see this guy wearing

30:25

the mink wearing On

30:28

league fits walking into the game guy

30:32

Got there. You got the walk-off interview got a

30:34

good smile. Hopefully he's got some good charisma Let's

30:37

go Dayton. I'm with it. It's

30:40

pretty old man. So cool Yeah,

30:42

ho ho I mean Holmes Holmes. I had

30:44

him in the 20s on last year's rankings

30:46

before he dipped out He

30:50

should give I'm gonna I'm gonna put him higher

30:52

on Monday's board like cuz it's so fluid in

30:54

like this Why not? Why not us eight like

30:56

the 18 to 40 range? Yeah, let's put home

30:58

fire on Monday's board What I ate my

31:01

number one pick Since you went

31:03

with a fan base. It doesn't like you. I'll go with a fan

31:05

base. It doesn't like me Zion

31:09

Williams, oh, yeah, bro

31:12

that alley-oop the other night was

31:16

Unbelievable and then wind

31:19

horse had that report that he's lost

31:21

like 25 pounds since we saw him

31:23

You know out of breath during the

31:25

in-season tournament Okay, so

31:28

I wouldn't look at amazing 25 pounds

31:30

and what two months three months. What

31:33

the hell are you doing? You want a zepic? I

31:37

Don't know 25 pounds is

31:39

a lot Maybe just cut out

31:41

carbs or to caring about it like there was

31:44

gonna come a time where he's gonna start caring

31:46

about it and it's the season is

31:48

going on but more importantly than the

31:51

Lost weight which is turned Zion back into

31:53

a guy where I watch him and I

31:56

go. Oh shit Like

31:58

you better watch out for this I

32:00

told you years ago, I said,

32:03

this guy could be one of the top five, 10 players in

32:05

the NBA. Like he's

32:07

just got to commit himself, but it's in

32:09

there. And when everybody got so

32:11

down on him, I was saying, man, I trade

32:13

for his ass just to try. Because

32:16

if you hit on it, it's

32:18

like winning the lottery, like literally

32:20

winning the lottery. If you were

32:22

to trade some assets

32:24

for it, and then you could get him

32:26

to take it seriously. And then you just

32:29

pray one day, he's going to really commit

32:31

himself. And if he ever does, you

32:34

got a monster on your hands. And we're

32:36

seeing that monster start to come out. 24

32:38

points a game, eight rebounds a game,

32:41

five assists a game, a steal

32:43

a game, a block a

32:45

game. Okay, that's all March,

32:47

63% from

32:49

the field, and seven

32:51

free throws attempts a

32:54

game. Now, the other thing, and

32:57

this is what, and I'm not going to bag on

32:59

the Pelicans for not going to it sooner

33:02

because the guy had to become in shape

33:04

and be able to be the guy

33:07

that could carry the load. But this team had

33:09

to become his team. Ingram's

33:12

not the guy that's going to be your best guy. There

33:14

is a pecking order. And

33:17

the more this pecking order is flushing

33:19

itself out, the better it is

33:21

for the Pelicans. There's seven and one. I

33:23

know their schedule is easy, right? But

33:26

there's seven and one in

33:28

this month of March. He's now

33:31

two full shot attempts ahead of everybody else.

33:34

This isn't, you know,

33:36

everybody's on the same level. Like

33:38

you go back to December when

33:41

you and I were watching him, and we were like, Jesus,

33:44

like he's just kind of shuffling up and down

33:46

the court. And then they got bagged

33:48

by the Lakers in that game that we went to.

33:50

We were so depressed about it. But in

33:52

December... I was depressed, lost

33:54

the Falcons. You were gleeful. I was depressed because

33:56

I was all the way out in Las Vegas

33:59

to watch a... Basketball game and it's

34:01

like what the hell is this I

34:03

was at halftime. I was at the

34:05

park MGM playing video poker Right.

34:08

I was like down by 40. This is

34:10

stupid. All right Brandon

34:14

Ingram though in the month of

34:16

December He's taking 16

34:18

shots of games. I on taking 13 McCollum's

34:21

taking 15. He wasn't

34:23

ready for that right you

34:25

look now and Zion

34:28

is the guy that on on most nights

34:30

gonna be taken you know, that's whose Butter

34:34

in the bread as they say and then Murphy's

34:37

13 attempts Ingram's

34:39

13 attempts McCollum's 13

34:42

attempts Everybody just fall in line

34:44

behind him and he wasn't

34:46

ever ready. He's the guy. We know he's

34:48

the guy He's our go-to guy. He's our

34:50

guy that's gonna deliver the mail every night

34:52

The trick is he was not gonna be

34:55

able to I get it He wasn't

34:57

gonna be able to deliver the mail every night. He

34:59

just wasn't this version

35:03

Appears that he is And

35:06

if Zion Williamson's your best player He's

35:09

this version and there

35:11

everybody has obviously Come

35:13

to the understanding with that team. This

35:16

is the guy. It's not Brandon Ingram

35:18

It's not CJ. McCollum like a pecking

35:21

order finally flushed out with their actual

35:23

best player Being the

35:25

guy that had taken the most shots every

35:27

night and but it's slowly melding

35:31

into that and We

35:34

always talk about when you get to the playoffs. I've

35:36

got this guy You've got this guy so

35:38

many times the series will come down to who's got

35:40

the best player on the floor This

35:43

version of Zion can be the best

35:45

player on the floor in

35:48

almost every series You

35:50

know that he plays it's a possibility.

35:53

We're leaving yoke it to side But

35:56

could he be the best player in a series

35:58

against Gilders Alexander? I don't think that's crazy No,

36:00

could he be the best player? Could he be the best

36:03

player in a series against Anthony Edwards? No

36:05

crazy not not crazy at all. Could he be

36:07

the best player in a series that includes Kawhi

36:09

Leonard? I mean, I wouldn't put

36:11

him up there yet cuz Kawhi is a

36:13

hell of a playoff performer But not crazy

36:15

for one series Chris, right? So save Jokic

36:19

for a series like I

36:21

don't think they had that guy and Now

36:25

within the course of the season it is flushed out

36:27

to where they do have that guy

36:30

and It

36:32

is a hell of a thing to see even when you

36:34

watch that like we haven't seen that Where

36:37

he caught that lob and finished

36:39

that with two hands. It's been a long time Since

36:42

we've seen that guy there have always

36:44

been very small spurts But

36:47

the athleticism and you just look at

36:49

him He looks like a different human

36:51

than he looked like in December and

36:54

then obviously the report tells us well

36:56

That's because he is a

36:58

different human than he was in December. He

37:00

literally is And

37:03

not the one that we've been you know

37:07

Sound off a tricked into because he was that guy but

37:09

what we've been used to believing about him

37:13

because The best

37:15

version of Zion and if he keeps doing

37:17

whatever he's doing you still got

37:19

a month What's he gonna look

37:21

like in a month if he keeps committed to

37:24

this? It's

37:27

like you've just attained a top

37:30

10 player truly

37:33

Cuz he wasn't close not

37:35

even close to that and now

37:39

He's I've always said he could

37:41

be one of the best players in the entire league

37:43

and he's finally playing Like that

37:45

and they're treating him like the guy in

37:48

New Orleans. So I want to see this

37:50

continue Through the end of the

37:52

year, you know, you got to run through the tape with this

37:54

but certainly makes

37:56

me feel very differently about their playoff

37:58

prospects if He's that guy.

38:01

Absolutely. Chris. I mean, you nailed it. I mean,

38:03

I'm very impressed. I'm very happy. Uh,

38:06

you took one of my guys, which is

38:08

fine. It's okay. It's okay. Um,

38:11

one of the stats I wanted to share with

38:13

you, Chris is, Oh, we were just doing four

38:15

players each anyway. So,

38:18

well, one of the touch stats, the touch

38:20

numbers per game prior to the all-star

38:22

break, Zion was touching the ball

38:24

58 times per game,

38:27

possessing it for

38:29

3.4 minutes per game since the break. He's

38:31

possessing the ball 4.9 minutes per game and touching it 69.2

38:34

times for a game. So

38:39

I think that increase for Zion is indicative

38:42

of what you're saying with the shots, with

38:44

the offensive role, the responsibility, what

38:47

he's able to withstand and handle,

38:49

and I can't help but wonder,

38:52

can he even do more? As you

38:54

said, what, what does he look like in April?

38:56

What, what does it look like come playoff time

38:58

when they're feeding him 20 plus shots per game,

39:00

not just leading the team by two shots over

39:02

everybody else, but when he's getting

39:04

force fed, what does it look

39:06

like at that point? So for Zion and the Pelicans, uh,

39:09

obviously incredibly impressive. It's got one

39:12

of the best defenders in all over the world and Herb

39:14

Jones, uh, leading your team on the

39:16

other end. Uh, they have so many

39:18

different pieces, Dyson Daniels types. Like

39:21

they have so many different guys who are

39:23

just straight up good players. It's you,

39:25

it's your old line, Chris, that you always

39:27

talk about, you know, like where, like even

39:29

the guys who aren't playing the guys

39:31

who aren't playing right now, like they don't suck. Like

39:35

the guys who aren't playing don't suck.

39:38

Uh, but like, nevermind the guys, you

39:40

know, who do Valentine's, Alvarado, Najee, Marshall,

39:42

Larry Nance, Jordan Hawkins, he's,

39:44

he's sometimes plays on all the time, but

39:46

like up and down their roster, they

39:49

just have so many different good players, including

39:51

the guys who are DNP or, or out

39:53

injured. Um, like it's crazy how loaded

39:55

they are. All right. Who's your next guy? Let's

39:58

go with somebody who's underwhelmed. Scoot

40:01

Henderson needs to show something. He's

40:04

this month, this month of March, he's

40:06

averaging 11.9 points per game on

40:08

12.1 shots per

40:11

game. And that's like,

40:13

it's not getting better with him over the

40:15

course of the season. I think his shooting

40:17

ability, he's at over 80% from the free

40:20

throw line. That's encouraging. He is

40:22

below 40% from mid range. He's around

40:25

30% from three. Those are poor

40:27

numbers. But to me, the number one concern with him

40:29

is the at room finishing. He does a good job

40:31

of getting into the paint. He can play making, kick

40:33

it out. He can find rollers and

40:35

cutters and all that. But the at room finishing

40:37

has not improved on the season. He's shooting 47.6%

40:40

in the restricted area, 34.5% in the paint. He

40:48

doesn't have a floater. He is

40:50

not finishing well against contact off of

40:52

two feet in the past. He's somebody

40:54

that he got by on his speed

40:56

and his burst and his athleticism. But

41:00

he's been blocked 30 times this

41:02

season in the paint. Because

41:05

that athleticism isn't getting him where it once did.

41:07

So I think for Scoot, this needs to be

41:09

a big awakening here. You're

41:11

not an elite athlete. You are a

41:13

good to great athlete. And now

41:15

is the time to add to that

41:18

with some craft over the off season because

41:20

he needs to become a good at room

41:22

finisher because the shots aren't going to fall

41:24

every night. And you hope the three point shooting gets better.

41:26

But at the least he needs to become a guy who

41:28

can rely with finish around the basket. And as of now,

41:31

he does not look like it. And I think that's the

41:33

biggest red flag of his game right now. Yeah.

41:36

Cause we're seeing a bunch of these other

41:38

rookies that are showing

41:40

us something. Trending up.

41:42

Not the least of which, right? Yes.

41:45

Oh, yeah. And I don't have him on my list, but

41:47

can I just mention this real quick? I saw, did you

41:49

see the ringers? Uh, there's a video, you probably haven't seen

41:51

it yet, but there's a video they put out. I

41:54

think it was like on Instagram or something. And it was the, it

41:56

was the group chat guys, all talking about

41:58

on man Thompson Mahoney talking about how

42:00

they're using him and they're talking about the

42:02

spacing and all this kind of stuff. And

42:05

it about like the small ball center stuff

42:07

or whatever. I could not help but watch

42:09

that and think this

42:12

is exactly what Kevin wanted.

42:16

Ben Simmons to be. Hmm. Yeah.

42:19

Is it not right? A hundred

42:21

percent. This is exactly what I'm in

42:24

Thompson actually is doing, which is wreaking

42:27

havoc on the defensive end. And

42:30

then on the offensive end has not taken it as a

42:32

demerit. Like I think people thought he was going to be

42:34

a point guard. All right. Not a point guard, but

42:37

here's this role that I'm being put in

42:39

and I'm amazing at it. And

42:42

I'm a problem for NBA teams

42:44

by doing it. Yeah.

42:46

A hundred percent. I think you're spot on.

42:48

It's what I hope for, for, for, for

42:50

Ben Simmons and he's never been willing to

42:52

embrace. Meanwhile, you have, I'm in Thompson who

42:55

was completely selfless and he's a

42:57

willing screener. He'll like hang around the

42:59

paint and wait for dump off passes.

43:02

And yes, sometimes he will run points. Sometimes he

43:04

will bring the ball off the floor, but he

43:06

does everything that the team asks him to do.

43:09

He's played every position that imaginable

43:11

for the Rockets this year as a rookie. And

43:14

I think for him moving forward, that bodes very

43:17

well, regardless of what they do with the supporting

43:19

cast. Well, here's the thing, he can't shoot. Yeah,

43:21

he can't. He's like a 20%, 20%, 18% guy from three right now. So

43:26

how do I become super

43:29

impactful? I can

43:31

find a way to fill in these gaps. I

43:34

mean, guys, like 27 points in a game

43:36

and he doesn't space the floor and shoot

43:38

three. So how does this happen? Like, cause

43:41

he does all this other stuff. Great. He

43:43

could pass, he could rebound, he can

43:45

hustle, he could block shots, he could steal, he could

43:47

dunk off vert. Like, I mean, he

43:50

could do all this stuff and it's

43:52

like, am I gonna let the fact

43:54

that I can't shoot destroy

43:57

my ability to be on the court? There's

44:00

a whole lot of guys That

44:03

weirdly could look at a my a man Thompson

44:05

as a great example of how you

44:07

can be mega impactful instead

44:09

of You're unplayable

44:13

Right hundred percent true. Yep a

44:15

hundred percent and one of the guys in the

44:17

draft that comes to mind We just saw Virginia

44:19

have one of the most ugly games imaginable talk

44:21

about it And I'll talk about it's really it

44:23

was really bad, but Ryan done just one guy

44:25

where like he can't shoot But

44:27

he can defend he can finish at the basket

44:30

He's got a mind on the court Like he's it's not

44:32

like he doesn't know how to cut or roll or it

44:35

has feel for the game Don is

44:37

one of those guys where it's like hmm You

44:39

plug him into a situation that embraces him like

44:41

I'm an Thompson and that he's willing to do

44:43

those things Maybe he can work out

44:45

even if he never develops a jumper All

44:47

right. The next one is I you

44:50

know, you were talking earlier about how I've said in the

44:52

past You know just not playing guys

44:54

and don't suck One of the other things I've said

44:56

is history always tells us Kevin You gotta have one

44:58

of the five to ten best guys in the league

45:00

to win the title And so I can

45:02

almost write you off if you don't have one

45:05

of those guys. So my next guy

45:07

is somebody I Every

45:09

night I'm sitting there and I'm

45:12

thinking about talking about this, but I've

45:14

held off is it

45:16

possible The

45:19

Jalen Brunson is one of the five

45:21

to ten best guys in the league

45:23

But because we have held this opinion

45:25

much like the Zion thing for so

45:27

long About what he

45:29

is that we're missing it This

45:32

guy now is averaging

45:35

almost 28 points a

45:37

game six assists Almost

45:40

four rebounds 48 percent

45:42

from the field 40 percent

45:44

from three When

45:46

we've seen him in the playoffs So

45:49

the last time we saw him in the

45:51

playoffs played 11 games for the Nick he

45:53

averaged 28 points a game in the playoffs So

45:55

like we've seen and and he was a

45:57

huge part of the Mavs getting to the

45:59

West Final the last time we saw him

46:01

in the playoffs with the Mads. But even

46:03

with the Knicks, he averaged 28 points a

46:05

game over 11 games, playing with them. He

46:08

is up to 6th in the

46:10

NBA in scoring, behind

46:12

Embiid, Luca, SGA, Giannis,

46:14

and Durant. Alright?

46:18

Now he's in his sixth year in the

46:20

NBA, but there's

46:22

part of me that goes, alright, we had

46:24

this perception for so long that

46:26

we haven't, we already had our opinion of

46:29

how good he is, or

46:32

how good he is in the pantheon of

46:34

the other great players in the league. And

46:37

I sit there and every night, I mean, you could,

46:40

anybody could go pull up a game log right now.

46:43

Go look at the damn game log of

46:45

these last like four or five games. It's

46:47

like, my god, like,

46:49

he has Curry

46:52

numbers. These are

46:55

Steph Curry numbers. But

46:57

we don't look at him like

46:59

we think about, and I'm talking about Steph Curry when he

47:01

was at the best of the best. Steph

47:04

Curry ain't got many seasons that he averaged over 28, you

47:06

know? And

47:08

this guy is at almost

47:11

28 points a game at

47:13

like high percentages. Almost

47:15

50% from the field as

47:18

a little guy and 40% from three. And

47:20

so it just, you know, I've obviously been effusive in

47:22

my praise in the Knicks. I've talked about them being

47:24

a very dangerous team. But also,

47:26

and I think it was Candace Parker that got

47:29

in trouble for it earlier this year, which is

47:31

like basically, you know, there's a

47:33

ceiling if you're best players, Jay Lebroncet. That's

47:37

what keeps going through my head. As

47:39

much as I think I love that team, and

47:42

as much as I've seen them like

47:44

stymie teams defensively, he's putting up these

47:46

Curry numbers, but nobody thinks of

47:48

him in that way. I

47:51

constantly find myself going like, Bro,

47:54

is this guy like Curry and we're just missing it? Like,

47:56

you know what I mean? Like, am I going to look

47:59

up in the players? And he's just throwing

48:01

the damn team on his back and

48:03

killing everybody because this this

48:05

season that he's having is unbelievable

48:09

and Maybe

48:11

that hole there's a ceiling

48:14

on you if you're best player at

48:16

Jayla Brunton I've

48:18

got to and everybody has to

48:20

just recalibrate that because

48:23

that ceiling is not the ceiling that we

48:26

Probably thought it was and

48:29

with him. He's not a one-trick pony

48:31

No Brunson is not just a guy that you

48:34

run High ball screen after high

48:36

ball screen and he creates for you in

48:38

the second half of the season You're seeing

48:40

the Knicks have pretty much ever since Randall

48:43

went down They're

48:45

running Brunson off a ton more

48:47

off ball screens more actions

48:49

more Versatility where they're getting him the

48:51

ball off of movement and getting motion

48:53

within their half-court offense And so I

48:55

think you're seeing Dynamic wrinkles

48:58

being added on top of the foundation

49:00

of this Knicks offense and and isn't

49:02

that exactly what you want in

49:05

the playoffs? Having a plan a a plan B

49:07

a plan C a plan D and I feel

49:09

like with the Knicks That's what

49:11

they're building towards right now. And it's despite having

49:13

guys who have missed time Brunson

49:16

remains the rock of

49:18

that of that franchise and you

49:20

could be on to something Chris But perhaps

49:22

Jaylen Brunson is one of those guys who can

49:24

pop off in a series and be the best

49:27

guy in a series And didn't we

49:29

see him do this in the playoffs before

49:31

with Dallas where he is dropping, you know,

49:33

massive performances without Luca It's not like we

49:35

haven't seen him do that before so I

49:37

think with the Knicks They

49:40

are a sleeper for the finals They're not the

49:42

favorite over the South thicks sort of bucks and

49:44

you got to give you know Still a lot

49:46

of credit to the heats and respect to

49:48

the heat But the

49:51

Knicks are scary man because that defense is gonna keep

49:53

them in a lot of games and a Brunson can

49:55

pop off Check

49:58

I go and check what happened the night

50:01

before in the games that I wasn't able

50:03

to see every

50:05

morning. And every

50:08

morning, I'm like, Jesus, I had

50:10

freaking 42 again. What

50:13

is going on here? And it

50:16

is the weirdest thing because he's in

50:18

the biggest media market. Usually

50:20

everybody out of New York

50:22

is massively overrated. Massively.

50:27

If Frank Neil Aquino had eight points,

50:29

there'd be freaking 50 memes

50:31

about it. Everybody

50:34

from there and somehow I

50:36

feel like this guy is in the

50:38

number one media market and is underrated.

50:40

I don't know what's

50:42

happening here. It's so bizarre. And by the

50:44

way, you know who else has been really

50:46

good with them? Don on my list, but

50:49

Miles McBride. Remember when we raved about him

50:51

a month ago on the show? The dude

50:53

has been like playing way more than even

50:55

anticipated. And he's been excellent with them, dude.

50:59

Oh, God, I'm going to find this while we are

51:01

on the air because you're going to love this. When

51:03

I was looking at something earlier today, I'm

51:05

going to pray I can find it. When

51:07

I was looking at something regarding the Knicks,

51:10

you know how like sometimes those sites will

51:12

have like headlines underneath, whatever

51:14

you're reading about or whatever. I've

51:18

got to see if I can find this. OK, here we go.

51:21

This is a GQ headline. It was like

51:23

an ad underneath

51:25

like this Knicks thing I was reading

51:27

about. OK, when I was doing the

51:29

Brunson deal, Miles

51:31

McBride has been unstoppable since

51:33

attending the Dune Part 2

51:35

premiere. What?

51:41

It says if you've been following the New York Knicks

51:43

this season, you know, this team has experienced major turning

51:45

points, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. It

51:47

said on February 25th, Miles

51:50

Dews McBride attended the premiere of

51:52

Dune Part 2 in New York

51:55

as this Twitter user, Doink

51:58

Patrol, nice, pointed. that.

52:00

I swear to god

52:02

they list that. He's

52:04

been absolutely great. He's been

52:07

going absolutely crazy since that

52:09

fateful night. In

52:11

44 games prior to the premiere,

52:15

at which we should mention McBride looks

52:17

spectacular, he was averaging six

52:19

points a night and shooting an admittedly very

52:21

strong 40% on three. Pretty standard

52:23

second string numbers. But in the 11

52:26

games since he went to the Dune premiere, he

52:29

skyrocketed to

52:31

10.5 points per game while knocking down

52:33

an absurd 45% of

52:36

his threes. And

52:39

then you know it's a GQ article because the next

52:41

line is, for

52:43

context, Steph Curry,

52:45

the greatest shooter ever owns

52:48

a career three point percentage of 42.6.

52:51

And then it's like it's really like

52:53

a celebrity story about Miles McBride and

52:55

how awesome he's been since going to

52:58

this Dune 2

53:00

premiere. Wow. Yeah,

53:03

McBride. Good friend, man. I just

53:05

looked up while you were talking

53:07

January 30th was when we

53:10

had our podcast raving about him. We're

53:13

averaging 25 minutes per game ever

53:15

since then. Well, in fairness.

53:18

Good listener of the plot. In

53:20

fairness, no Brunson missed like

53:24

there was like a series a couple of weeks

53:26

ago where Brunson had to miss two games. No,

53:29

Tibbs played McBride like

53:31

44 and 42 minutes

53:33

like back to back. Yeah. There's some

53:35

games where he played

53:38

45 that are way out of that. He's like, oh, you want

53:40

to start? Oh, you want to start? Now

53:43

you're in my world. Do

53:47

you think Tibbs does it so no one

53:49

can ever complain about playing time? Yeah,

53:52

like that he's a mastermind. He's like, no

53:54

one is ever like, look, they'll be bitches.

53:56

They'll be guys that bits that they don't

53:58

get to play. But of the

54:00

ones that play, they're never gonna say they

54:02

don't play enough. I promise you.

54:06

Did you see Dune 2? I

54:08

did not. I haven't seen Dune 1. Okay.

54:12

I didn't even know that Dune 1

54:14

was a thing until Dune 2. I

54:17

see. Because I've read some articles

54:19

saying that it had like a 98 on Rotten Tomatoes

54:22

at the time. I don't know what it's at now. It was like

54:24

in the 90s. And I was

54:26

like, Oh, is it awesome? I like Dune 2. Dune

54:28

2 is really good. I like Dune 2 a lot.

54:31

But everybody said I gotta see Dune 1. No,

54:33

I disagree completely. You can read a recap or

54:36

watch one of those, you know, five to 20

54:38

minute recap videos on YouTube. You don't need to

54:40

watch Dune 1. Is it worth

54:42

watching? Read a recap. Or no. I think Dune 2

54:44

is great. Really good. No,

54:46

one. Is one not worth watching? Oh,

54:48

I didn't love it personally. No. Oh.

54:51

I saw it once in theaters when it was out. And

54:53

then I saw it again prior to seeing Dune 2, just

54:55

to give it another shot. I didn't, I

54:58

didn't love it personally. Oh, then I'm blaming you

55:00

for not knowing about Dune 1. I mean, you're

55:02

the biggest nerd. You're the biggest nerd I know.

55:04

And you didn't mention it to me. So am

55:06

I really the biggest nerd, you know, the number

55:08

one nerd? No. That

55:11

I'm friends with. Oh

55:16

God. Oh

55:18

geez. Our producer, Jesse, is probably

55:20

the biggest. I'm kidding. I'm

55:24

goofing, man. Jesse does love movies.

55:27

Oh, I guarantee Jesse loves Dune

55:29

1 and Dune 2. He's

55:31

probably wearing a Dune t-shirt. Dune

55:33

1 is just a bit slow. It's very

55:35

slow. It's very

55:37

slow. Dune 2 is a

55:39

bit more paced. The story moves more. And

55:41

I think even the Dune fans would admit

55:44

Dune 1 is a set out movie. Dune

55:47

2 is where the action really begins, which

55:49

is why I would recommend for you, Chris,

55:51

you're a father. You work multiple

55:53

jobs. You're a busy man. Read the recap

55:55

for Dune 1. Get set

55:57

up and then go spend three hours in the

55:59

theater. for Dune 2 and enjoy yourself. It's great.

56:01

It's really fun. I would like

56:03

to issue an apology to our executive producer,

56:06

Jesse Lopez. He has alerted me. He has

56:08

never seen either of them. Wow!

56:10

Wow! I

56:13

have miscast him and he's obviously offended. I

56:15

put him in the same pool with you.

56:18

Wow! I'm shocked,

56:20

honestly. I'm very shocked.

56:23

Alright. I just offended a whole bunch

56:25

of people who were like, Dune 1's not boring. Oh,

56:27

who cares? Today's

56:32

episode is brought to you

a lot that could impress you

57:24

about the all new Honda Prologue

57:26

EB. True, it's got class leading

57:28

passenger space and clean, thoughtful design

57:30

57:32

sets the Prologue apart from the

57:34

57:37

an EB. It's a Honda. Honda,

57:45

go to the pop quiz. Let's go to the

57:48

pop quiz here, Chris. A pop quiz. A

57:50

pop quiz for this player. Over

57:52

six seasons, regular

57:55

season and playoffs combined, over

57:57

six seasons with one single

57:59

organization. This player has appeared in

58:01

419 games and played 14,323 minutes. And

58:10

this player has drawn a grand

58:12

total of zero charges. Who

58:16

is this player? Six years.

58:20

Six years. I'm going to do that.

58:22

Look, I'm only looking up teams

58:24

so I can look at a

58:27

list of the teams. So

58:29

then I could try to whittle down a six year player. And

58:32

he has not drawn a charge. Not

58:34

a single charge in 419 games and 14,323 minutes. Regular

58:41

season and playoffs combined. I

58:45

mean, I could whittle this down pretty good just

58:47

by going through six years with one team. Yeah.

58:52

Miles Turner? Nah.

58:56

Do you want any more guesses or do you just want to know the answer? Do you want

58:58

to know the answer? Eastern

59:00

Conference or Western Conference? Eastern Conference.

59:04

Six years with one team and

59:07

has never basically taken a charge. He

59:09

was traded in that first season, during

59:11

that first season. So I don't know

59:13

if that messes up the six seasons

59:15

of time. He

59:18

was traded in the first season, but

59:20

he is in the sixth season. Yeah.

59:27

Has he been there six years? Alright, go ahead and tell

59:29

me. Okay. The

59:32

player is Tobias Harris. I

59:37

mean, you know, Resillo's got this,

59:39

you know, long running joke every year

59:41

when it's like, wow, Tobias Harris plays

59:44

for the Sixers? Right? Like

59:46

every time he'll have like, you know, 22

59:48

points at a playoff game or something. Yeah.

59:51

Well, the reason why I bring up Tobias

59:53

Harris is because now in 17 games without

59:55

Joel Labeid, he's shooting 29% from three, only

59:57

51%. percent

1:00:00

from two, he has been an absolute

1:00:03

non-factor for them at a time that they

1:00:05

could have needed help the most. And

1:00:07

now the Sixers are in the play-in. There

1:00:09

was a report today from NBC Sports

1:00:12

Philadelphia that Embiid won't be back for

1:00:14

another two to three weeks. If

1:00:16

he's back in two weeks, that leaves

1:00:19

six games remaining during the season. If

1:00:21

he's back in three weeks, that leaves

1:00:23

three games remaining in the season. I

1:00:27

think this is the point of the season now

1:00:29

where can you do something to bias

1:00:31

Harris? Can you do something? Can

1:00:33

you step up somehow, somewhere? Anything. Can

1:00:36

you take a charge? Can you put

1:00:38

your body on the line? Like I'd like to

1:00:40

see him at the end of the season. Take

1:00:43

a charge. Take

1:00:45

a charge. Move up the leaderboard.

1:00:49

You can do it. I believe in you. Like

1:00:51

put in some effort and help this team win some games.

1:00:54

That would be good for somebody to come

1:00:56

up with like those crazy stats like that.

1:00:59

Cause I was watching Minnesota

1:01:01

versus Denver the other night, which

1:01:03

is a great game and I

1:01:05

was super impressed with Minnesota. They

1:01:07

were without obviously some

1:01:09

of their guys fought to

1:01:11

the end. And then Ann Edwards had a

1:01:13

good look from three to tie that game.

1:01:16

I mean, they just, you

1:01:18

know, they, they showed me something with

1:01:21

that. That, that felt like playoffs

1:01:23

environment. Totally agree with you. I

1:01:25

felt the same. Might've been

1:01:27

in that broadcast or as one of their

1:01:30

recent ones, because of course we tracked this

1:01:32

for a long time in Memphis, but Mike Conley

1:01:34

has still never gotten attacked. That's

1:01:36

impossible Kevin. I know. And

1:01:39

so it was like those kinds

1:01:42

of things like that, like the

1:01:44

providers not taking a charge, like

1:01:46

these statistical anomalies that you wonder,

1:01:48

like the guys never done it

1:01:50

one time. You

1:01:52

would just think randomly, you would think

1:01:54

you'd randomly be in a block charge

1:01:56

situation and you got the call. By

1:01:59

accident. By accident. Yeah. A

1:02:01

guy just mowed you down because you were standing

1:02:03

there. Yeah, you're defending

1:02:06

man to man on a drive to the

1:02:08

rim and like you legitimately get, you know,

1:02:10

pummeled and you fall over. The guy lowered

1:02:12

his shoulder into me. Yes, 100%. You

1:02:16

would think that would happen at least once. Once?

1:02:19

Maybe once. Maybe once and 14,000 minutes. You'd

1:02:23

think it happened once, but he's just not an

1:02:25

impactful player. He's not shooting the ball well. He

1:02:28

doesn't play make. I'm

1:02:30

a fixer fan right now watching this team.

1:02:32

I am absolutely furious that a guy making

1:02:34

40 million dollars is not stepping his game

1:02:37

out without my best player out there for

1:02:39

two months now. Okay.

1:02:42

Next one for me. Oh boy.

1:02:44

I may catch some heat from this

1:02:46

from my higher-ups. If you listen to

1:02:49

Bill's podcast, you would think Damien Lillard

1:02:51

is friggin like Perry Rozier now. And

1:02:54

I don't know if it's just because it's a

1:02:56

Boston thing and they want it to not work.

1:02:59

In Milwaukee, but it's

1:03:02

like constantly I'm hearing about how, you know,

1:03:04

Damien Lillard is like, he's good once a

1:03:06

week and he's got this terrible contract. And

1:03:08

it's like, but Damien Lillard now

1:03:10

in 10 games in March is

1:03:12

averaging 26 points

1:03:14

a game on 45% from the field, 40% 42% from

1:03:16

three, nine assists and four rebounds, 26, nine and four.

1:03:26

45% from the field, 42% from three. And

1:03:29

if he goes to the free throw line, he's auto, he's 96%. And

1:03:34

he's made all manner of clutch

1:03:36

shots and they are one of the top

1:03:38

clutch teams in the entire NBA. Like I

1:03:40

don't get it. The disconnect between

1:03:43

what Damien Lillard has been and what

1:03:45

I keep hearing he has been is

1:03:47

great. Damien Lillard has been

1:03:49

friggin awesome and you better watch the hell

1:03:51

out because it's about to be playoff time

1:03:53

and he's got this new Tso watch ad.

1:03:55

And so he's going to be hitting this

1:03:57

Tso watch as he's uh...

1:04:00

Downing people when it comes playoff time like

1:04:02

what are we talking about? Damien Lillard is

1:04:04

friggin awesome. What do you want 26 9 and 4?

1:04:09

If he's once a week then he's got

1:04:11

to be having fucking a hundred points a

1:04:13

week in one game Because how are you

1:04:16

doing this? The guys average is

1:04:18

26 9 and 4 on 45 percent for

1:04:20

the field 42 percent from 3 and

1:04:22

96 percent for the free throw line in

1:04:24

March There are 10

1:04:26

games that they played in March like Damien

1:04:29

Lillard is still awesome And

1:04:32

you want to line up all the guys to

1:04:36

Get me ready for the playoffs. He's still gonna

1:04:39

be a very very high pick the

1:04:41

the the death of Damien

1:04:44

Lillard as an elite

1:04:48

top level guard in this league is

1:04:51

highly exaggerated highly

1:04:56

Adjurated and all you gotta do

1:04:58

is look look at what this guy's done and it's starting

1:05:00

to catch fire So this

1:05:02

is something to monitor Spot

1:05:05

on 100% sure we are on the same exact

1:05:07

page with Damien the horde I mean I think

1:05:10

the last time I was on Bill's podcast him

1:05:12

and I got into it over Dame

1:05:14

and I'm with you Chris

1:05:17

Maybe it's a maybe it's a drew holiday hive

1:05:19

or something. I don't know I Don't

1:05:22

know with like Bill Doris Burke, you know

1:05:24

a number of others. Well, he's a felt

1:05:26

like now. Yeah Right. So

1:05:29

it's like okay. We got the better guy or

1:05:31

I don't know. I don't know. Yeah,

1:05:33

but Damien Lillard is friggin awesome

1:05:36

What are we talking about? And

1:05:38

just add on to the Dame love here

1:05:40

guess who's back Middleton Chris Milton Yeah, 20

1:05:43

22 points against the Suns 22 points against

1:05:45

the Celtics He

1:05:48

playing 30 minutes a game right now and I think

1:05:50

he had seven assists Yes,

1:05:53

seven assists on the Suns game and then six

1:05:55

to six six assists in the solpix game So

1:05:57

with Middleton you get him back. They need Middleton

1:06:01

to make a finals run. They need Chris Middleton.

1:06:03

And so I think this Bucks team is their

1:06:06

defense has not been as good after

1:06:08

a stretch in which it was awesome. We'll

1:06:11

see how that translates over the course of

1:06:13

the rest of the regular season. But getting

1:06:15

Middleton back is gigantic on top of Damian

1:06:17

Loward finding himself on offense. Your

1:06:20

last one. Oh, I stole it. It's

1:06:22

Dion, right? Well, I mean I did an extra one.

1:06:24

I had a fifth just in case. Oh, you owe

1:06:26

us one because you did frickin' T on Ellis. It's

1:06:30

all the key on Ellis. I mean, I get it. But

1:06:33

you're trying to throw a bone to

1:06:36

Sacramento. So using one of the four

1:06:39

valuable slots on T on Ellis is

1:06:41

I mean that come on. We can

1:06:43

throw a different bone to them. I was

1:06:45

setting up a thought about their defense using

1:06:48

T on Ellis as the end. So,

1:06:51

okay. All

1:06:56

right, last one. Devin

1:06:58

Vassal over the last two months with the

1:07:01

Spurs. He's averaging. Oh, real hookah here. Yeah.

1:07:05

They even still have a camera on at their game. Like

1:07:13

the friggin' Wilt 100 point game. Nobody's

1:07:15

seeing this. By

1:07:18

the way, by the Grizzlies tomorrow night everybody

1:07:20

tune in. Devin

1:07:25

Vassal over the last two months averaging

1:07:27

21.4 points per game, shooting 39.6% from three. And

1:07:32

with 4.9 assists to only

1:07:34

two turnovers per game. So after a

1:07:37

shaky start to the year, Devin

1:07:39

Vassal is back on the positive

1:07:41

trajectory that he was on in his

1:07:43

recent years with the Spurs. And so I think

1:07:46

with Vassal, you look around at San Antonio's roster,

1:07:48

there's a handful of keepers around Wembley. Devin

1:07:51

Vassal is one of them because of his

1:07:53

versatile scoring and creation ability. Jeremy

1:07:55

Sohan is another because of his defensive

1:07:57

ability and his connective ability on offense

1:08:00

and potentially your

1:08:03

guy, Trey Jones could be a

1:08:05

backup point guard of the future rotation

1:08:07

guy for them. He's improved from every

1:08:09

zone as a shooter from three point

1:08:12

range, mid range, the paint restricted area.

1:08:14

So on top of being a really

1:08:16

good playmaker and then a hard nose

1:08:18

smaller guy on defense, his

1:08:21

scoring has improved this year. So I think

1:08:23

those three are guys that

1:08:25

I can see the Spurs keeping long-term, particularly Devin

1:08:27

Bessel more than any of them. What

1:08:29

do you think about the big tall guy? Do you think they'll

1:08:32

keep him? I mean, we'll see about

1:08:34

that. One Benyama I think. Oh,

1:08:36

okay. Yeah. We'll

1:08:39

see if they hold on. You see

1:08:41

if they hold on to him? Okay. We'll see about

1:08:43

that. Tough decisions there. Since I

1:08:45

do want to show some love, but I'm

1:08:48

not using him because I wrote down a

1:08:50

bunch in case that we bled

1:08:52

over on top of each other. So I do

1:08:55

just want to mention very briefly. No key on

1:08:57

else on your list. He

1:08:59

was like, I actually had him.

1:09:02

How many players are in the league? 450,

1:09:05

400 or something like that. Yeah. Give

1:09:07

Keon some respect. Give

1:09:09

him some respect. He's a really good defensive player. Huge

1:09:13

Keon fan. Jaylen

1:09:15

Green. Got to mention

1:09:17

him. We just talked about him. That's why I didn't get him

1:09:19

on my list. Yeah. He's eight and one, 27 points a game,

1:09:22

50, 40 from three. And then he's six rebounds, three

1:09:29

and a half assists. He's starting to look like

1:09:31

the star that we thought he could

1:09:33

be draft time. We talked about him last

1:09:36

Friday. We did. We talked about him.

1:09:38

All right. The last one. He's had

1:09:40

big game since then. It's not like it slowed

1:09:43

down. Yeah. He had 42 the other night. Yeah.

1:09:46

And that was after winning Western Conference Player of the Week.

1:09:49

All right. The last one. And

1:09:51

I think this alters

1:09:54

the playoffs the absolute most. So earlier

1:09:56

I was talking about Zion Williamson.

1:09:58

I was like, you know what? Maybe you could have the best. best be

1:10:00

you could have the best player in the series, whatever.

1:10:03

This is the one that's got my eye the most as we

1:10:05

head down the home stretch. And that is

1:10:07

Kawhi Leonard. Kawhi

1:10:10

Leonard has had couple injuries,

1:10:12

back spasms, I think was the last thing

1:10:14

that flared up. But then he keeps coming

1:10:16

back into the lineup. And he's okay. Did

1:10:19

you know, he has never

1:10:21

shot a higher field goal percentage. He's at 52

1:10:23

53%. He has never shot a higher three point

1:10:28

percentage. He's a 42%. And he's 89% from the free throw

1:10:33

line. He is a

1:10:35

percentage point off of

1:10:38

a 5040 90 season. Okay. And

1:10:44

we saw him in the playoffs, but we only saw him

1:10:46

for two games. Last year

1:10:48

against Phoenix, and he was absolutely

1:10:51

unbelievable. He averaged 35 points

1:10:54

a game in six

1:10:56

and a half rebounds and six

1:10:58

assists. And then he got hurt. The

1:11:00

last time we saw him in the playoffs before that

1:11:03

was back in 2021. And he averaged

1:11:07

30 points eight rebounds

1:11:09

and four assists in

1:11:11

the 11 games that they played that okay, this

1:11:14

is a guy that when it comes playoff

1:11:16

time, now it's

1:11:18

even elevated. There's

1:11:21

part of me, there's like,

1:11:23

like, once you've got to fight this out

1:11:25

to the end because of the seating and whatever. But

1:11:28

I don't think there's anybody in the league

1:11:30

that is more important to keep healthy

1:11:32

leading into this. He could truly be

1:11:34

the best player in the conference in

1:11:38

the playoffs. But there's nobody that's a

1:11:40

bigger question mark. Right? Like

1:11:43

the ceiling and the floor are so

1:11:46

immense for them. Because you he

1:11:49

is maybe the one guy in

1:11:52

the whole conference that I could go he could

1:11:56

have a better series than even yoga like

1:11:58

he is that good at his Apex

1:12:01

and when you see them in the playoffs last year,

1:12:03

he's averaging 35, six and six. We

1:12:05

see him in the playoffs here for these and he

1:12:08

can be the best guy, but

1:12:10

he can also be unavailable. So

1:12:14

whatever the difference between that is like

1:12:16

being the best player outside of

1:12:18

Yokich in the conference. And

1:12:21

then we might, you might not

1:12:24

have him. And can you keep them healthy

1:12:26

for, you know, three, four

1:12:28

rounds of this? He has

1:12:30

stayed healthy. He's had a couple flare ups

1:12:32

recently, but he is having an unbelievable

1:12:35

statistical season. And

1:12:39

if they weren't fighting for seating, man, I'd throw that

1:12:41

dude in shrink wrap and I'd

1:12:44

break him back out when the playoffs started. You

1:12:46

know what I mean? I'd just be like, all

1:12:48

right, we've gotten all the way to this point.

1:12:51

Let's just get you there to the playoffs.

1:12:53

And obviously they've got to play this out proceeding and

1:12:55

it's probably best for him to stay, you

1:12:58

know, active and playing all the time. But

1:13:02

I feel there all of their hopes hinge

1:13:04

on how awesome he is because you know,

1:13:06

the other two are flakes. They are George

1:13:09

may flake on you and, and Harden

1:13:12

may flake on you, but

1:13:14

Kawhi could average 30

1:13:17

to 35 points in a series and just

1:13:19

be, you know, dominating

1:13:22

on both ends of the court as

1:13:25

a wing, which is super

1:13:27

important. Um, so

1:13:30

just him. And can you play this

1:13:32

string out, get through the tape and

1:13:34

then make it to the playoffs healthy? Because

1:13:37

I do think their ceiling is great

1:13:39

if he is what he has been

1:13:41

in the playoffs. But

1:13:44

the trick is, you know, he's

1:13:46

great in the playoffs last year and then we saw him for

1:13:48

two, two games. It didn't,

1:13:50

and then didn't see him again, but hell

1:13:53

they might've, they might've gone to the frigging West

1:13:55

finals last year that that

1:13:57

version of Kawhi that we saw in game one game

1:13:59

two. I mean, he was heads up

1:14:01

with Durant whooping his ass. Whooping

1:14:04

his ass. You remember the old Tyler thing?

1:14:06

Like they don't think you got it anymore. They

1:14:08

think Durant's the guy in this series. Kawhi went

1:14:10

out there and looked like frigging Michael Jordan. Crazy.

1:14:15

So I don't know. Clippers

1:14:17

are seven and eight since the

1:14:19

all-star break. I know it. They

1:14:21

are lazy too. They're lazy, just

1:14:23

lame. Harden's turned

1:14:25

into a pumpkin. Yep. Besides contesting

1:14:28

Kawhi's own three-pointer the other night.

1:14:30

That was great. Best

1:14:32

thing to play of his career. I mean, it

1:14:35

was best effort that we've seen from him in

1:14:37

recent weeks for damn sure. Yeah.

1:14:40

I think with the Clippers, Tyler talked about it after one

1:14:42

of their recent games. Like, can you guys flip the switch?

1:14:44

She had a back and forth with the reporter. He's

1:14:46

like, I've seen teams do this before. We'll

1:14:50

see. We'll see about the Clippers.

1:14:52

I think ultimately more than anything

1:14:55

else though, it's all up to

1:14:57

Kawhi. As you just said, Chris, Kawhi is the

1:14:59

guy who makes it all happen. He's shooting only

1:15:01

30% from three after the

1:15:03

all-star break. His three-point numbers are down. If

1:15:05

he turns it on on offense and

1:15:08

gets back to the 25 plus point per game, 30

1:15:10

point per game guy on elite

1:15:12

level, 50, 40, 90 efficiency

1:15:14

that you were talking about, that

1:15:16

he was at one point this season, then

1:15:19

they have a shot. Like that's obvious. It

1:15:22

all starts with Kawhi Leonard more than

1:15:24

anything else, but also their defense, their

1:15:26

overall team, like it just feels like things aren't clicking

1:15:28

the same way that they did prior. Like what has

1:15:30

happened? That's because they ain't got that boy, Russ. Put

1:15:34

some respect on his name, Kev. We'll

1:15:37

see. Put some respect on Russ's name. We'll

1:15:39

see. We'll see if it's due to Russ.

1:15:41

Once Russ comes back, we'll see if he's

1:15:44

the energizer. Oh man, it's going to be

1:15:46

like letting a pit bull out the cage.

1:15:49

Oh, I can't wait. The kill.

1:15:51

Yeah. I mean, the thing is, is their struggles

1:15:53

kind of began before Russ went out

1:15:55

though. That's the thing. It's like he played five

1:15:57

games after the. Stop breaking up. They were. two

1:16:00

and three in those games. There were two

1:16:02

and three of those games that Russell wasn't

1:16:04

getting defended in the half-corp. But anyway, I

1:16:07

digress. I don't want to hear that shit.

1:16:12

All right, there's our list. Everybody enjoy
