1:09

I'm Ryan Reynolds. Recently, I asked Mint

1:11

Mobile's legal team if big wireless companies

1:13

1:15

1:17

I asked if raising prices technically violates

3:50

In this episode com we give a

3:52

3:57

tears from the charity locate international

4:00

This is checks off. The

4:30

details are dark and murky, and

4:32

they can make investigations extremely tough.

4:36

After all, finding someone with information is hard

4:38

enough across all of the episodes in this

4:40

series. But finding

4:42

someone with information when there are criminals at

4:44

play, that's a whole extra challenge. Nevertheless,

4:53

Locate International believes that in most

4:55

cases, someone may want to speak

4:58

up. Circumstances

5:01

change, and loyalties can fade. Perhaps

5:04

someone who didn't want to speak up then, might

5:06

be compelled to do so now. This

5:11

episode focuses on the tragic story

5:13

of a sent hellier woman who still

5:15

remains nameless. She

5:18

may have been involved in criminality, but

5:20

that doesn't mean she doesn't deserve an identity.

5:24

So here we go. Clue number one.

5:27

The hospital visit. The

5:30

hospital visit. On

5:43

the 29th of May 2006, a nurse

5:45

is arriving for her shift at Sent

5:47

Hellier Hospital in Sutton, South West London.

5:54

As she heads for the doors of A&E, she notices a woman

5:56

sat on the wall to her right. The

6:01

woman is doubled over and clutching her stomach.

6:05

She seems disorientated, her eyes glassy,

6:07

her skin covered in sweat. She's

6:10

clearly in a great deal of pain. The

6:19

alarm is quickly raised and the only priority

6:21

is to get the woman inside the hospital

6:23

and under the attention of medics. The

6:30

nurses rally around, a wheelchair is wheeled

6:32

outside and the woman is transferred into

6:34

a bay for assessment. Doctors

6:38

rush in, closing the curtain swiftly behind

6:41

them, but the woman is fading from

6:43

consciousness, her eyes rolling backwards in her

6:45

head. Before

6:49

she passes out, the nurses manage to obtain

6:51

her name, Mary Kofi,

6:53

she says. There

6:56

was no identification papers or documentation

6:58

in her possession, this

7:00

name is never verified. And

7:04

as they give her some pain relief, they also ask

7:06

for her date of birth, which she offers

7:08

up as the 27th of April 1957, making her 49 years

7:10

of age. But

7:16

then, nothing. The

7:18

St. Helier woman says nothing more, and

7:21

she's said nothing since. Over

7:29

the next few hours, she remains unconscious

7:31

as doctors try to save her life. Her

7:35

organs are shutting down, monitors

7:37

bleep sporadically as she's observed in

7:39

the emergency room, but scans reveal

7:41

that the St. Helier woman, or

7:43

Mary, has ingested 61 packages

7:46

of cocaine, which are releasing

7:48

huge and ultimately lethal amounts of the

7:50

drug into her system. She

7:55

dies within hours, and due

7:57

to the manner of her death, a criminal investigation

7:59

is lost. launched. It's

8:01

not every day that someone is admitted to hospital with 61

8:04

packs of cocaine in their stomach, and

8:06

police knew that others must be involved.

8:13

It was Detective Inspector Mike Smith who

8:15

released a statement to the media to

8:17

encourage anyone to come forward with information.

8:21

He said, while still unconscious,

8:23

the woman told hospital staff she had blown

8:26

in from Ghana to Heathrow earlier that morning

8:28

and that she was carrying a large amount

8:30

of cocaine in her stomach. He

8:33

went on to add, it's likely she

8:35

was picked up at some point and dropped at the

8:37

hospital once she became ill. But

8:42

picked up by who? No one

8:44

lives in a vacuum and people certainly don't deal

8:46

in the drugs industry in a vacuum. St

8:49

Helier Woman was known to people. In

8:51

this instance, her associates, also

8:54

associated with drug importation, smugglers.

8:59

Someone or a number of people had been

9:01

involved in giving her the drugs, instructing her

9:03

to fly, and been waiting to collect them

9:06

or her on arrival. More

9:09

than that, it's likely that at least one of

9:11

those smugglers had helped her reach a hospital when

9:14

it was apparent that her smuggling operation was

9:16

going drastically wrong. After

9:21

checking flight logs in and out of Heathrow International,

9:24

detectives confirmed that the St Helier Woman had

9:26

indeed flown in from Ghana. But

9:30

there was a possibility she was due to get

9:32

a connecting onward flight to Amsterdam. Were

9:35

her handlers in the UK or were they overseas?

9:39

Tragically, the St Helier Woman died

9:41

alone and in drastic pain after

9:43

being abandoned at the hospital. So

9:47

an investigation began into the circumstances of

9:49

her life and how it had led

9:51

to her premature death. It

9:55

isn't a stretch to deduce that she had likely experienced much

9:57

hardship of some kind, which led to a very serious and

9:59

tragic death. led her to smuggle the drugs in the first

10:01

place. And

10:04

while this could happen to anyone, her case

10:06

highlights how especially dangerous this is for women

10:09

from countries such as Ghana, who

10:11

were trafficked and exploited in the hope of a

10:13

better life. Did

10:16

the Centhelia woman have family back in Ghana?

10:19

Or was she alone? Was

10:21

she really called Mary? Investigators

10:25

quickly realized that the people who interacted with

10:27

Centhelia woman in the final hours of her

10:29

life would be unlikely to come

10:31

forward, as it would mean incriminating themselves

10:33

in the international drugs trade. But

10:38

they were also keen to stress that any

10:40

information would be treated in confidence. Information

10:43

which could identify the Centhelia woman could

10:45

even be issued anonymously. And

10:48

authorities urge those who know something to speak

10:50

up. But

10:52

until that happens, we have to rely on the

10:54

other clues available to us. Which

10:57

leads us to clue number two. Body

11:00

and clothes. Hey,

11:05

I'm Ryan Reynolds. Recently, I asked Mint

11:07

12:46

on the date of birth given by Centelia Woman,

12:48

her age would have been around 49. Though

12:53

she certainly looked more youthful, around 40.

12:59

She was 5 foot 10 inches in height and of heavy

13:01

build. She was Afro-Caribbean

13:03

with black skin and dark brown wavy

13:05

hair bulked out with extensions which had

13:07

slight tints of red in them. She'd

13:11

entered the hospital wearing a large wrap scarf

13:13

which she draped around her frame, a

13:16

black background with bold red flowers and gold

13:18

swirls around the neck and looping around the

13:20

floral design. She

13:23

also had a matching handkerchief. And

13:26

both the wrap and the scarf had the logo

13:28

for a brand called Argent Swallow. Was

13:31

this a Ghanaian brand? Something

13:34

she brought with her on her final tragic journey?

13:37

Or could this clue point to a different scenario?

13:41

A product which is available in the UK and

13:43

suggests the woman spent more than just a few

13:45

hours on UK soil. Finally,

13:51

on her feet she wore a pair of black sandals. But

13:55

other than the clothes on her back and on her

13:57

feet, there was nothing else on

13:59

her person. to identify her, no

14:02

luggage or personal possessions. Investigators

14:04

were baffled. Where

14:07

was her passport? She'd undoubtedly had

14:09

one in order to board her flight from

14:11

Ghana. And

14:14

where were her personal possessions such as money

14:16

or a forward address or even a bag

14:18

of more clothes to wear? Had

14:21

she abandoned them at the airport, in pain and

14:24

in search of medical help? Or

14:26

had they been kept and claimed by the people

14:28

who met her on her arrival? Investigators

14:32

are desperate to know because

14:35

someone does know and they believe

14:37

the Centalia woman will have a family

14:39

and friends wondering what happened to her.

14:43

So as you go about your day to day business, don't

14:46

forget the case of the Centalia woman, the

14:49

name she gave to the doctors, Mary

14:51

Kofi, her potential connection

14:53

to Ghana and her bold decorative

14:56

scarf. Could you hold

14:58

allow investigators to complete this jigsaw? You've
