Hello, and welcome

0:08

to the MMQB NFL Podcast.

0:10

I'm conor Or. We got a

0:13

special guest today. I call him the Big Guy.

0:15

Tyler Dunn from Golong is here. Albert

0:18

Brier is on vacation. He's looking at Big

0:20

Ben. He's out in London, but he'll be back for the draft.

0:23

I'm very excited. Tyler and I went to college

0:25

together. Tyler runs the excellent

0:27

independent football journalism site Golong,

0:30

veteran of the Buffalo News, the

0:34

Oh My Gosh, Bleach Your Report, Milwaukee

0:38

Journal Sentinel, all

0:40

of it. I mean, Tyler's been all over the world, has

0:42

written some of the best football stories of

0:45

our time here in the business. We both

0:47

start in twenty ten. Tyler, what's

0:50

up, buddy, Connor?

0:52

It is awesome to be here.

0:54

I could not text you back fast enough

0:56

when he said that you wanted to pod today,

0:58

because it just gives us an excuse.

1:00

To bs catch up.

1:02

I would love to just kind of reminisce seven

1:05

forty four roers term memories. I'm

1:07

not sure if that's what the people want, but it

1:09

may maybe it is. Maybe we should just tell

1:12

old war stories. Because I'm looking in your

1:14

office right now. And it's kind of bringing me back to

1:16

all the deos being all over the wall.

1:18

It is like the theme of my house,

1:20

and much to my wife's chagrin, has

1:22

not changed much since college, which is just

1:25

shit everywhere, shit covering

1:27

the walls, and me just

1:29

not doing a great job cleaning. I did wear my

1:31

Syrakese sweatshirt for the occasion, though very

1:34

rare. I like it, very rare sporting

1:36

of the Tyler and I worked

1:38

at the student newspaper together and we're kind of like anti

1:40

fans a little bit because we covered

1:42

all the teams. But I was actually thinking about this

1:44

this morning when I put on

1:46

my Syrakese sweatshirt. And we're gonna talk about the draft,

1:49

by the way, We're gonna do a mock top ten. We're

1:51

gonna talk about the state of the draft a little bit, and

1:53

Tyler, I just want to make sure we

1:55

get this out upfront and then we're going to talk about it

1:57

in the back end too. Tyler is working with

1:59

Bob McGinn, who is the absolute

2:02

legendary football journalist, and

2:04

McGinn's draft files are at Golong,

2:07

So check out Golong, subscribe

2:09

to go Long. Bob McGinn. And

2:12

we'll get into this in a little bit. Bob McGinn like

2:14

knows what flavor pop tarts all

2:16

these guys have for breakfast. Like, if you want

2:18

to know what's going on with all

2:21

these guys, you know, there's there's the

2:23

there's the scout chatter that everybody kind of picks

2:25

up on and speaks about in platitudes. All

2:27

that stuff comes from all the hard work

2:29

that Bob does, So be sure to check that out. But I

2:32

was putting on my Syracuse

2:34

sweatshirt and I was like, you know what, there

2:37

was only one time that

2:39

I went to a Syracuse basketball game as

2:41

a fan, and I

2:44

went to like we had the student

2:47

cheering section, and

2:49

I walked. I got there super early. It was

2:51

like a pretty big game, and you

2:53

know, everyone there is looking at me because I'm not one

2:56

of the dufuses that normally showed up and

2:58

painted in my face and everything like that, like who

3:00

is this guy? You know what's going on? And

3:02

so you know, you have a few drinks, you get liquored

3:05

up, it's a night tip off. You know, a

3:07

few chardonnays, what of it? And the

3:11

student section is kind of quiet. So

3:13

I just start screaming at the top of my lungs

3:16

like rabid. I'm just like ah,

3:18

you know, and everyone's

3:20

looking at me and like, you know, whoever the fan

3:23

leader is is like, hey, you know, that's not what

3:25

we do, Like you have to do it

3:27

like the way that we do it. And I was like, what

3:30

the hell is this? Like there's rules

3:32

now about how we have to act, and like

3:34

did I miss cheerleading practice? And so I'm

3:37

glad. I'm glad we missed out in the fan experience

3:39

because Tyler wasn't that fun. Anyway.

3:41

I do remember going to a game as a fan once

3:44

and do you remember Dan Kurtz. He's

3:46

in he's in local TV. Who could forget

3:49

Dan Kurtz? And he just showed up in a full

3:51

gorilla costume.

3:52

And I could be wrong.

3:54

I think you might have just walked around campus from time to

3:56

time in the gorilla costume and why he's

3:58

one of a kind.

3:59

Love Dan, But yeah.

4:01

It was kind of like the curse of the sports

4:03

writer, right, I mean, very early on at

4:05

the do O Independent Student newspaper.

4:08

I mean it's the number one reason I think you'd say

4:10

the same thing that we're sitting where we are, and we

4:12

have a job that supports our families.

4:15

We're writing about sports. It's daily

4:17

Orange University as far as I'm concerned. But

4:20

you do sacrifice that, that fandom

4:23

and that I don't know, I think

4:25

at this I see you in the Syracuse. I've

4:27

worn some Syracuse here. It's from time to time

4:30

is it is a time for us to give

4:32

in and become fans of this

4:34

school that we paid a lot of

4:36

money to when you really think about it, because we

4:38

don't. I'm not really a fan of anything. It's kind

4:40

of sad, right, Like people think

4:42

you're a fan of the team you cover. Of

4:45

course, I mean you get into it because you love it.

4:47

I grew up worshiping the Green Bay Packers

4:49

as a kid. But at some

4:51

point you just kind of.

4:53

Lose it all. You probably learned it at the do

4:55

O.

4:56

I haven't really been able to get it back

4:59

with any team, have you.

5:01

So I'm so this is funny. I just

5:03

so the year that my wife and I met in twenty

5:06

eleven, I grew up an Orioles fan, and

5:08

baseball is a safe distance for me because it doesn't

5:10

matter. It kind of the meat of the season

5:12

happens before the NFL season, right, And

5:15

so the year that my wife and I met, the

5:17

Orioles had like a very random renaissance.

5:20

We had like Manny Machado and JJ Hardy and

5:22

Chris Davis the year that he hit like fifty

5:24

home runs. And so I took her to like her first

5:26

baseball game, took her to Camden Yards, and

5:28

like that was like a really special, cool

5:30

thing, and I kind of got back into it for a little

5:33

while. And then you have kids

5:35

and you get a dog, and you buy a house, and then like you

5:37

don't have time to invest in this. But now it's

5:39

come back to the point where the Orioles are rocking

5:41

again. They have like the five of the best players

5:44

in baseball. They won one hundred games last year.

5:46

My daughter's starting softball, And so I

5:49

did the really sneaky maneuver, which was

5:52

I signed up for MLBtv like yesterday,

5:55

two days ago. And what

5:57

I'm gonna do is you

5:59

You're going to you do the

6:01

week long free trial, you show the kids

6:03

the games and everything like that, and then

6:06

I'm gonna be like, oh, I forgot to cancel.

6:08

Looks like we paid for the whole season, you know,

6:10

because you introduce it to your wife as

6:12

we're just gonna do the free trial. We're just gonna see if the

6:15

kids like it, and then you gotta be

6:17

like, oh yo, I was at Costco. I forgot

6:19

to cancel it, and look now we have to watch the Ools

6:21

for the rest of the season. So I'm gonna try that. That's gonna

6:23

be my you know, we're gonna see if we like it.

6:25

You know, it sounds like a curb episode.

6:28

I love it. Yeah, the whatsa Daisy?

6:30

We have to watch baseball all year?

6:32

Upsful. Yeah, I feel like it's better,

6:34

you know, like right now we're at this

6:37

point and you have kids the same age that

6:39

I do, where if the TV's

6:41

on, they're just

6:44

like flat, They're like moths

6:46

to a light. And so it's like if the TV's

6:48

on, but it's something that I feel like, you

6:51

know, like, you know, whatever, they're home

6:53

from school, they're walking around the baseball games on,

6:55

they can look at it and be like, oh, that's kind of

6:57

cool, like what's going on there? And we can talk about it

6:59

a little bit. Like we had our first softball practice

7:01

the other day and I told the kids they had to touch

7:03

all the bases and they were stopping at all the bases

7:06

and taking their finger and touching

7:08

it with their fingers, and I was like, okay,

7:10

yeah, we got along. We got a long way to go,

7:12

but this is you know, so maybe a little baseball

7:14

help everybody with that.

7:15

You know, I'm just writing down I gotta

7:17

sign my daughter up for soccer this summer.

7:19

Thanks for reminding me. We got to get it.

7:21

Was a last year.

7:23

Was the first year, and she lasted about you

7:25

know, one and a half practices.

7:26

It was you know, the playgrounds right there, yes,

7:29

and it was easy distraction.

7:30

Like seven eight boys and girls

7:32

just run off and you know they're thinking about

7:34

ice cream afterwards. It didn't last long, but she's into

7:37

it. She's into it now, so thanks.

7:39

The same problem for us they had, they had

7:42

all they had, like the introduction sports

7:44

classes for us that they offered

7:46

during the summer. Caddy corn like

7:48

butted right up against a playground

7:51

with a with a zip line, like a kid zip

7:53

line, and so the whole time they're just

7:55

like, when do I get to do that instead of listening

7:58

crazy.

7:59

Red light green and get a ball? Want

8:01

to go on the slide, have some fun.

8:04

It's hard to blame him. It is it is

8:06

hard to blame him, all right, So what

8:08

do you think now? You and I had a great time

8:10

at the combine. We got to eat a little nada in Indianapolis,

8:13

little high quality Mexican cuisine. It was

8:15

fantastic. What

8:18

did you walk away from the combine

8:20

thinking about this year's draft class? Just broadly?

8:22

I mean, you and I spent the whole week grinding talking

8:24

to VIPs in the NFL.

8:27

What what was your sense of this class?

8:30

Yeah, I think that it's easy

8:32

to fall into the quarterback trap every

8:34

year. I mean it's I can remember

8:37

two years ago the Malik Willis clips

8:39

were in full force right now and he

8:41

was a franchise quarterback. You have to get

8:44

Malik Willis in the middle of the first round because.

8:46

Look, look at this. Wouldn't you like that in your

8:48

life?

8:49

If if people just took the

8:51

five or six best moments of anything

8:53

you ever did for your career

8:56

and just like played it on a loop for anybody to

8:58

see, you know, you'd be You'd heavenly,

9:00

you'd be a saint. So you can do that with any

9:02

quarterback in any draft class, and

9:05

it's easy to fall victim into it. I mean, look at

9:08

the year before that with the Trevor Lawrence, Trey,

9:10

Lance, Justin Fields, Mac Jones, Zach Wilson.

9:13

To answer your question, I feel like this class

9:15

is legit. You hear it from

9:18

scouts. I've heard it from skeptical

9:20

voices like my podcast partner Jim Monas,

9:23

who has worked for the Eagles, the Saints, the Bills.

9:26

He's he's been in those rooms studying quarterbacks

9:29

and he didn't really like that was

9:32

it one or I'm sorry, twenty twenty one

9:34

class with Lance

9:36

and those guys. He

9:39

wasn't high on them, when basically everybody

9:42

was crushing on at least two or three of those guys.

9:45

And he loves this group.

9:46

So of those six guys, I

9:49

think, I don't know, I wouldn't be surprised

9:51

if four of them hit, and

9:54

there's gonna be teams trade not for it's gonna be fascinesting

9:57

to see how it all shakes out. It's all

9:59

about like who does Brian Dable get? Who

10:01

does Kevin O'Connell get. But coming

10:04

out of the combine, I was convinced, like, Yeah,

10:06

this this group is gonna be special

10:08

because a lot of these guys with the extra year

10:11

from COVID. They played so much football.

10:13

They played forty fifty sixty games

10:15

for bo Nicks. Like there's

10:18

no substitute for experience, and I

10:21

think that's a legit group and it makes us a fascinating

10:24

draft for all involved.

10:25

Really love Bonnicks. His first

10:27

college start was against Justin Herbert.

10:30

He's he's living the dream. You

10:33

I do say, like, do you know bad? I'd want to be back

10:35

at Syracuse right now. But then the thought of that is like,

10:37

oh god, I'd probably be very unhealthy and very

10:39

creepy. And imagine like

10:41

going into a party now at thirty five and being like

10:43

hello kids, you know, like what's

10:46

happening we went to I

10:49

don't like, would we would go back? There's

10:51

like two or three times I went back, like right

10:53

after college, you know, and like when you start working

10:55

in a newspaper and I was making like I

10:58

mean, at that point, they gave me like a special title

11:01

so that they could pay me below like basically

11:03

workers minimum wage, like whatever the

11:05

sub legal amount of money was. But it was enough

11:07

to buy like patron, you know, and you'd walk

11:10

back and you'd go to college and be like ah,

11:12

but now I'm like, I can't do that. The

11:15

the lifestyle is too hard

11:18

for me. I'm out of practice.

11:20

I'm kind of just washed all dad now

11:22

you know.

11:23

Oh, I'm with you completely. It

11:25

doesn't even excite me. Excite me.

11:27

The idea of staying up past ten

11:30

to eleven o'clock.

11:31

How that changes. Yeah.

11:34

I told somebody this the other day

11:36

that my I've become

11:38

so protective of

11:40

like bedtime. And we

11:43

used to start going out, like if

11:45

we left the door before ten o'clock, it's

11:47

like, where are you going? You know, like, what

11:50

are you doing? Going for the blue plate special? You

11:52

know this is there's still adults

11:54

out right now we're cool, but yeah, no,

11:56

I can't do that anymore.

11:58

It's terrifying.

12:00

And then there's bo Nicks, right, I

12:02

mean just hanging with the you know,

12:05

people young enough to be a child,

12:07

maybe a nephew or he was hanging.

12:11

The thing is, though he's got a hairline that's intact.

12:13

I feel like if we went back a couple

12:15

of bald guys.

12:17

It'd be tough, it'd be difficult. Yeah there, yeah,

12:19

because you can't go you

12:22

can't go full bald in college. But

12:25

Tyler was when he talked me into going

12:28

full bald. And you got talked into

12:30

going full bald by Terrence Newman.

12:32

Right, that's right, yes,

12:34

Terrence Newman, God bless you.

12:36

Man. It was twenty

12:39

sixteen, so my first year of Bleacher Report

12:41

blew out to Minnesota.

12:43

That was the year.

12:44

I think they started like four and zero. Peterson

12:47

got hurt. I think Sam Branford got hurt.

12:49

Yes.

12:49

Anyways, they're winning early in the year and the

12:52

defense is great. So I hung out

12:54

with some players on defense there during the

12:56

week and Terrence Newman, who

12:58

is an absolute delight.

13:00

There's only if anybody who's.

13:01

Ever talked to him just knows that this guy is

13:03

a straight shooter to the upteenth

13:06

degree. So right in the middle of the locker room

13:08

one day, he's staring at me, kind

13:10

of look.

13:10

At me up and down and goes, let

13:13

it go, man e F and let it

13:15

go.

13:15

L I G.

13:16

What are you doing?

13:17

And he like kind of flutters the top of my head,

13:19

and oh, man, I was hanging on for

13:22

dear life. Right what could stand? A

13:25

Stanza called it like the last remains

13:27

of a great ancient civilization.

13:29

I don't even know what was that like.

13:31

It was just some some loose

13:33

strands up here, and I'd get the side

13:35

shaved and just clutching and

13:38

hanging on for every strand I could. And

13:41

he told me, look, when you go back to Buffalo,

13:43

shave your head, immediately

13:46

grow out that beard.

13:47

And you're gonna meet your feature wife.

13:49

He goes, he goes there, he goes, the females are gonna

13:51

love and he goes, if you're worried about that, don't

13:54

they like ball guys? I said, Terrence, I'm

13:56

white, Like it's harder for us

13:58

hold off this. Look, hees, trust

14:00

me, does trust me? It's not a race thing. Just

14:03

do it. And Terrence

14:05

Newman I will credit him to this day. I

14:07

did exactly that, shaved my head, and

14:10

then, uh, you know, popped on the old dating

14:12

app Tender No shame.

14:14

I think it was the night of the election, so I'm like, screw

14:17

it, like it's gonna be crazy, crazy

14:19

ass night one way or the other.

14:20

Yeah, And I met.

14:23

Met my wife, uh wow.

14:25

And she we went on a date like

14:27

the next day, two days later. And

14:30

I don't know if she might even even I don't know.

14:32

At some point I think she referenced

14:35

the fact that she liked that I was bald

14:37

early on in the dating, So I did

14:39

credit Terrence Newman for because

14:42

she didn't she doesn't know anything else, right, She's never

14:44

seen me with hair. Yeah, so I've never I've

14:46

never been downgraded. This is just what it

14:48

is. Kind of deal with the situation.

14:51

Uh but yeah, Terrence was

14:53

right, and we've you know, two kids house.

14:56

Things have been going going great since It's

14:59

it's kind of funny always joke. That night I was I

15:01

was texting my future wife, Jimmy Paul,

15:04

college roommate, and Richie Incognito

15:06

all at the same time.

15:07

So it was a it

15:09

goes a while.

15:10

I met my wife talking to Richie and

15:12

uh yeah, college roommate.

15:14

You don't want those are those are three text

15:16

chains that you don't want one to overlap

15:19

into the other because then everybody, if

15:21

you accidentally send your wife a text meant for

15:23

Richie and Cognito, that's gonna be

15:25

that's gonna be a little bit of a problem.

15:27

Yeah.

15:28

Oh, there might not have been a second

15:30

or third day. That would have been the end at

15:32

the end of it, right there. Yeah, worlds cannot

15:34

collide.

15:35

You gotta keep those worlds separate.

15:37

Honey, honey, hold on, I gotta take this. It's Richie

15:40

incognito. But yeah,

15:42

no, I was actually talking to my wife about this the

15:44

other day. My wife knew me with a full head of hair.

15:47

And then six weeks before, or like two

15:50

weeks before our wedding, I got my haircut and

15:52

the woman at Great Clips goes, do

15:54

you want any roguaine? And I said

15:57

for what? And she goes, I've

15:59

been cutting forty years. She's like, you got

16:01

about six months left before before this

16:03

thing starts free falling. And I was like,

16:05

yeah, right, she was right.

16:07

I mean, I don't know if she puts some sort of like Santa Rhea

16:10

on my head or something like that, but like

16:12

it just started flying out of there. And

16:14

so I was saying, last night we

16:16

were on our way to like a party. Life

16:19

was good. And I like it when I get the nice

16:21

shine on it, you know, like you know,

16:23

I have like a little you know thing after you

16:25

shave it, you can put it on and then the sun

16:27

hits it just in the right way. And I was like, it's

16:30

so much easier for me to have a good hair day without

16:32

hair than it was for me to have

16:34

a good try to have a good hair day with like just you

16:36

know, you're just plucking strands

16:39

of grass out of the garden at that point, you know.

16:42

Totally agree.

16:43

I mean I remember in college you had a good head

16:45

of hair. I started losing mind at like eighteen

16:47

nineteen, so I did, and

16:49

I knew I was going bald. My Dad's

16:51

been bald forever. So it

16:53

was just a matter of like setting the game plan.

16:56

I had several years to kind of figure out, Okay,

16:58

we're gonna go bald and beer did

17:00

look here? Or are we gonna

17:02

just are we gonna hang out of the sides?

17:04

Probably not, you know, maybe maybe later in life, but I

17:06

can't see that. Your ears

17:09

kind of did kind of come out of nowhere.

17:10

So I feel for you.

17:11

Man.

17:11

That had to have been a little a little traumatic.

17:13

But look here here you are

17:15

now now I'm looking at Connor and I barely recognize

17:17

you.

17:18

You lose all this weight, you're running marathons.

17:21

Who knows if you're doing all that with

17:23

with a full head of hair. It kind of u it

17:25

motivates us in other aspects of our our

17:28

physical.

17:28

Health one hundred percent. Yeah. I mean

17:30

if I if I have a full head of hair, I'm walking around like

17:32

life's easy, you know. I mean, tall people

17:34

and people with hair kind of just have

17:36

it have it easy. But we got to grind. We got a

17:39

grind to get ours, and I'm okay with that.

17:41

I mean, Sam Hartman should go undrafted as far as

17:43

I'm concerned, right, I mean, try out mate,

17:46

Maybe UFL put

17:48

him in the UFL.

17:49

Actually, my

17:52

one takeaway and then we're gonna get to our top ten

17:55

here and we'll flip a coin to see.

17:57

Who goes first.

17:58

My one takeaway from the draft is I

18:00

think that we are I think this is gonna be a fun

18:02

draft. And the reason that I think it's gonna be a fun draft

18:05

is because I think a lot of teams are gonna want to move

18:07

up, and not just move up into

18:09

the top ten the top fifteen. I

18:12

think that, you know, we have kind of two plateaus

18:14

here. I think at like fifteen, top

18:17

fifteen, we kind of have a little bump that moves.

18:20

And then at pick like I had

18:22

a really smart GM tell me like pick one,

18:24

oh five, one ten, and then

18:26

and then we fall off a cliff because all the NAL

18:29

kids are coming back to college, and

18:31

who can blame them, They're they're having their they're

18:34

having their architecture student fifth year

18:36

and having a great time. But a

18:38

lot of those kids are making good money, they're staying in college,

18:41

they're not coming to the draft, and so we plateau

18:43

hard there and you know, a lot of

18:46

the gms are saying, hey, it's useless at this point.

18:48

I mean to have a four. You know, maybe you get a

18:50

core special teamer here in the fourth round,

18:52

but we want we want dudes since we want

18:54

to get up in the third round. So I do think it's gonna

18:56

be fun. And you're right. The quarterback thing

18:59

makes it interesting. I like that.

19:01

You know, for me, every

19:03

year there's that one guy, like like the

19:06

I don't know what it is like. I feel like the NFL is

19:08

like just secretly pulling the levers and just

19:10

introducing speculation on an extra

19:13

person like we I was good with

19:15

Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels and Drake

19:17

may I felt good about that in December,

19:19

in January, and then all of a sudden, it's

19:22

like JJ McCarthy comes

19:24

out of nowhere. Everybody starts and then and

19:26

then it's like it's like hypnosis. It's like you

19:29

will love JJ McCarthy, Jim

19:32

Harball loves JJ McCarthy,

19:34

everybody draft JJ McCarthy. And

19:36

then last week Albert, who is

19:38

as plugged in as they come, is like, I

19:41

love JJ McCarthy, and so I'm like, when

19:43

did this happen? And Albert went to Ohio State, by the way

19:45

for him to say that it gave him like a little you

19:47

know, appendicitis. It really did, like it gave him

19:49

a pain. So I don't

19:51

know, four in the top ten,

19:54

Like were we really doing this again?

19:57

That's the perfect way to put it, because I do feel

19:59

like at an airport and you're hearing

20:01

the voice on the intercom just telling you

20:04

how to think, what to do, JJ McCarthy,

20:07

everybody by look, I was a

20:09

casual observer of college football this

20:12

past season, Like you know how it is on Saturdays

20:14

talking about our kids.

20:15

It's like the one day you can.

20:17

Get away with your family and do something, go

20:20

to a farmer's market, hang out.

20:22

We're not not sitting around watching college football

20:24

religiously. But I saw enough to

20:27

be like, Okay, like JJ McCarthy,

20:29

I'm going to put him in that Chris Winky Ken

20:31

Dorsey really really good college

20:33

quarterback bucket because

20:35

he's just not throwing it thirty

20:37

forty times a game doing all of these crazy

20:40

things.

20:41

It didn't I mean, but I'm not a scout, Like he didn't.

20:44

Strike me as this insanely talented

20:46

athlete with this insanely strong

20:49

arm. But it's

20:51

kind of go one direction of the other, like

20:53

it will go that direction where JJ McCarthy

20:56

is kind of what we saw winner

20:59

and maybe he's a really good backup for

21:01

a long time, or maybe he's in the perfect

21:03

situation and does really well,

21:06

but.

21:06

He is more of a

21:10

laceholders, a little strong caretaker.

21:12

Yeah, playmaker, But I

21:15

can't believe how it's just a

21:17

product of the draft discourse where we're

21:19

really able to all go back in

21:22

and cherry pick and hunt down

21:24

and find specific moments and specific

21:26

throws and say that's exactly

21:28

what you need to do in the NFL. Back

21:31

to his third down passing, I think is the

21:33

best amongst all these quarterbacks. So you

21:35

can point to metrics, you can point to certain plays,

21:38

you can point to this situation being maybe

21:40

perfect for him if he gets with the Kevin

21:42

O'Connell and the Vikings and he's throwing to

21:45

Justin Jefferson.

21:46

And Jordan Addison and TJ.

21:47

Hockinson like, maybe

21:50

it does work out, but I

21:52

can't see it.

21:53

I don't know.

21:54

I feel like I'm missing something that everybody

21:56

else sees.

21:57

With JJ McCarthy, I feel like I'm missing

21:59

something too. And again I mean

22:01

this is but but again, this is. This is

22:03

reverse Will Levis for me last year, where

22:06

I came into last year's draft thinking,

22:09

Okay, Will Levis is going at four to the Colts.

22:12

It's obvious. I love Will Levis. I've

22:14

loved Will Levis since he got

22:17

to Kentucky. All these coaches are telling me is

22:19

Matt Ryan two point, Oh, this guy knows

22:21

that, this guy gets it. This guy's awesome. I'm

22:23

like, great, awesome, And then pick number four

22:25

comes and I'm just like, what the hell is

22:27

going on? What did I miss? And then Anthony

22:29

Richardson's great? So you know these guys

22:31

know what they're doing. Very

22:34

rarely is there a time when I am out

22:36

on an island hating someone that ends

22:38

up being bad And you never root for that, right, you want,

22:41

you want these kids to have long, great careers. But I

22:43

don't know. It wouldn't hurt to me, right, once in a while,

22:45

I like to have a good mock draft, and I haven't had a good

22:47

mock draft in a while. You know.

22:49

You know what's fascinating too, is that Jim

22:51

Harbaugh, his coach, has just been you

22:54

know, effusive and praising and going

22:57

way and every right. If you

22:59

love him so much, drapped him, take him. But it's

23:01

like he's you know, I got a little incentive there, right,

23:03

I mean, he he's picking in a spot that

23:07

maybe up for auction. It may go

23:09

to a team that needs a quarterback. So I think there's a little

23:11

gamesmanship there from Jim Harball too. And if you

23:13

love them so much, then why did you have him throw

23:15

the ball eight nine times in the game?

23:17

Like I get it.

23:19

Maybe maybe that's the way that they had to win.

23:21

Run the ball, play good defense. But I

23:23

feel like if he's

23:25

as good as Jim Harball thought he was says

23:27

he was, you would have unleashed him

23:30

a little bit more than you did. It's

23:32

not like they were blowing every single team out.

23:35

Yeah with the run, I'm

23:38

with you, Tyler, what's he gonna say? What's he gonna

23:40

say? Like the guy the guy's trash.

23:42

We were hiding him like not

23:45

gonna hear that from a coach.

23:47

I would I would respect it, though it's just like holy

23:49

smokes, like you know, he can't throw it to his left,

23:51

you know, third and ten, you know, like just just absolutely

23:54

pick him apart and see I think it was Dashaun

23:56

Kaiser where Brian Kelly was like, I

23:58

don't know, man probably should have probab should have came

24:01

back to school, but you know somebody will

24:03

take him and ended up being the Browns, right obviously.

24:05

But uh yeah.

24:07

That's a challenge for scouts too.

24:09

You know, they go into these schools trying

24:11

trying to get some honesty. You know, my brother's

24:13

a scout for the Buffalo Sabers, uh

24:15

in hockey world. Yeah yeah,

24:18

And so it's it's it's similar you talk to any

24:20

scout in any sport and they go through

24:23

the same deal where it's like you're you're

24:25

you're that we do like writing a story almost,

24:27

but even them in the sport,

24:30

they want honesty from assistant

24:33

coaches, head coaches, teammates, custodians,

24:36

professors, a law enforcement

24:38

they're they're trying to talk to everybody they possibly

24:40

can to get honesty because

24:43

exactly that like if if a coach cares

24:46

about a kid at all, he's

24:48

gonna want that kid to get drafted, make as much

24:51

money as he can, support his family all

24:53

of that. So it's it's hard. It's hard

24:55

to get and that's why I appreciate what Bob

24:57

does so well. Sorry shameless plug. I suppose

25:01

Bob is talking to these scouts who

25:03

are doing exactly that, like trying to get

25:05

the real, the raw, the good, the bad,

25:08

the ugly, and look, they're not

25:10

always going to be right, and guess what, They're gonna

25:12

see completely different things on a lot of these prospects.

25:15

But it's it's not like every single player

25:17

that's gonna get drafted is a

25:19

plus in every category.

25:21

There's there's gonna be some.

25:23

Red flags and that's

25:25

what we hope to get with this series is to figure

25:27

that out. Like Rashi Rice right, just

25:30

just got involved in the speed

25:33

racing. How fast was he going? What was the miles

25:35

prower?

25:36

It was at least a I think it was like a buck thirty,

25:38

wasn't it.

25:39

Yeah, and who knows what his

25:41

future is. He'll be punished. I mean it could

25:43

be, it could be

25:45

more. But

25:49

yeah, in Bob series last year at

25:52

the end of the wide receiver piece. He

25:54

for each position, he has a scout's nightmare,

25:56

and it was Rashi Rice and

26:00

team said they completely took him off their board

26:02

because they did not view him as

26:04

a good person.

26:05

Wow, oh

26:08

yeah.

26:08

It's it's it's on the scouts to try to

26:10

to dig up the dirt, and they better dig up

26:12

the dirt. Their jobs depend on it. The

26:14

head coaches job depends on it. The g everybody's

26:17

job depends on hitting these

26:19

picks. There's it's a high, high,

26:21

high pressure industry.

26:23

All right, Well, let's put our own, Uh, let's put

26:25

our own you know what on the line here.

26:28

What is it?

26:28

A Mets manager Terry Collins used to

26:30

say, let's put our asses in the jackpot and

26:32

let's see what happens. I'm gonna flip a coin here. Uh

26:35

are you a heads guy or a taiales guy?

26:38

Tales never fails called it? You

26:40

were a captain in high school too? Did what did you call

26:42

it? Midfield?

26:44

I was a I

26:47

finished. This is gonna

26:49

sound like the qualifier of the century. We had five

26:51

captains. I was told I finished sixth

26:53

in voting. Oh and so they made

26:55

me a game day captain for the season

26:57

opener. But then we didn't have our

27:01

we didn't have our protocol down yet, so I didn't even

27:03

get to go to midfield to to

27:06

flip the coin. I didn't even get to do it. So I've

27:08

never gotten to do it before. But I reject

27:12

the notion that TAILS is superior. I

27:14

always call HEADS when I have an option, So

27:17

that's just me.

27:18

I had to had to casually mention our high school football

27:20

careers, right, That's that's what you gotta do.

27:22

Just work that in organically.

27:24

All right, it is heads, So that means

27:27

I get I get the first overall pick Tyler. This

27:29

is easy and feel

27:31

free to You could trade whoever you want. Okay,

27:34

this isn't U, this

27:37

isn't the thirty third team. We don't need the consensus

27:40

of eleven gms to get a proper,

27:43

proper return here. You don't have to pull up the Jimmy Johnson

27:45

chart. You could do whatever you want.

27:47

We're the GM. We can do what we want, not what we think they're

27:49

gonna do.

27:50

That's right. I'm uh, what's the

27:52

guy's name from draft Day? I'm sunny, Oh

27:55

gosh, sonny Ah,

27:58

what's the GM gonna. I'm

28:01

gonna, I'm gonna look so terrible because I've

28:03

talked about Draft Day every

28:05

other episode and oh

28:09

my god.

28:09

Saw Sonny Weaver.

28:11

Sonny Weaver, Yes, oh.

28:14

Yes, atrocity

28:16

of a movie.

28:17

Sorry, Connor, stay away Sonny

28:19

from the Uh yeah,

28:23

we want back at Sports Illustrated.

28:26

Like the couple iterations

28:28

ago, we had a show called Bad Football Movies and

28:30

used to drink and watch football movies and recorded

28:33

on a podcast and I

28:35

wanted to we did. The

28:38

first one was Draft Day with Jonathan

28:40

Jones who's now at CBS. He does a great

28:42

job as their national insider. But to

28:45

have input from all

28:48

of the women in our office, like I

28:50

mean, and to have them

28:53

also watch the movie and just be like so Jennifer

28:57

Gardner is in charge of the salary cap

28:59

but then all of a sudden, you

29:01

know, gets pregnant but also has to

29:03

get people coffee, like this

29:05

thing went downhill so

29:08

quickly from so many different

29:10

ways and uh some

29:12

of the worst lines ever penned.

29:17

But just like Dennis Leary

29:19

is the head coach, like screaming

29:22

and pounding the table because he needs a running

29:24

back at number two, like he's Dave Gettleman.

29:27

The whole thing was just He's

29:29

like, I want to win a Super Bowl, get meat his tailback

29:32

at it. Yeah, yeah, it was

29:34

so good.

29:35

Then everybody's happy at the end. Everybody

29:37

gets exactly who they want.

29:40

It's just like the Game of Thrones finale, really

29:42

like just happy endings all around, all

29:44

right.

29:44

That's what makes both absolutely

29:48

terrible.

29:48

God did anyone call anyone?

29:51

Did anyone in the Game of Thrones call anyone a pancake

29:53

eating mf or or was that just

29:56

was that just draft day? I

29:58

don't think give it a.

30:01

You haven't seen Game of Thrones.

30:03

Dude, add it to the list and I'll put this out

30:05

there again for everyone to make fun of me. I have not seen

30:09

Game of Thrones, Titanic, Braveheart,

30:11

Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Jurassic

30:13

Park. Uh

30:17

uh

30:19

uh. I'm trying to think of the big ones

30:21

that everyone freaks out about. Star Wars, Jurassic

30:24

Succession, Indiana No, no

30:26

succession et.

30:30

I'm trying, like all the biggest sort of

30:32

like pop culture phenomenons just

30:34

missed me while I was watching Law and Order s for

30:36

you And it's

30:38

too late. It's too late for me. Uh And

30:41

so I'm trying to maybe I'll catch it

30:43

on the back end with the kids. No, none of the Harry Potters.

30:45

Never saw Harry Potter. Oh I

30:47

know, I know, I just I missed

30:49

it all. I missed it all.

30:51

Instead of those Oreo games, you should just pop

30:53

on thrones. I mean, some nice, some

30:55

nice easy scenes there for you

30:58

know, four year olds.

31:00

Nothing to worry about at all. With that red

31:02

wedding dead.

31:04

Why does he not have a head anymore? All

31:07

right, I'm Ryan Poles pick number one

31:09

Chicago Bears. He

31:12

doesn't. He didn't do what I wanted him to do.

31:14

And boy, I was just pounding

31:16

the table for this all offseason, which was keep

31:19

both come on, keep

31:21

justin fields, play justin fields this year

31:23

red shirt Caleb Williams and

31:26

then give him the Patrick Mahomes treatment

31:28

and come out light in the world on fire. You could make

31:30

the playoffs this year, you could make the playoffs next

31:32

year. Instead you give him away just to beat

31:35

out Russell Wilson and Pittsburgh. But anyway, I'm

31:37

taking Caleb Williams USC Tyler.

31:40

Just your quick thoughts on the USC quarterback.

31:45

You know, watching him this past

31:47

year, I was I was thinking of Alan

31:49

Iverson, Alan Iverson, but he

31:51

had like Eric Snow and Tyrone

31:53

Hill and Todd McCullough and all this

31:56

slop around him, and he just had to create

31:58

every drive, every possession, I should

32:01

say and do something nuts

32:03

like that was kind of Caleb Williams, Like the line

32:05

really wasn't that good?

32:06

And I think he can play in rhythm.

32:08

I think he can play with.

32:09

It an offense unlike justin

32:11

fields, and he can do all the other stuff.

32:14

So yeah, it's it's an obvious

32:16

decision to go Caleb Williams.

32:17

And I cannot wait to see what he does with d

32:20

J.

32:20

Moore, Keenan Allen and oh hey, who knows, maybe

32:22

romadoonsday when we get to that pick.

32:24

All right, Dana na no, no, no,

32:26

no, NOA. Tyler's on the clock at

32:28

pick number two. He is the GM, the

32:31

new GM of the Washington Commanders.

32:33

You already missed out him, Ben Johnson, and then

32:35

you tried to bury the guy. You screwed it up. This

32:38

is a high pressure situation, Dan Quinn,

32:40

Cliff Kingsbury, you gotta get it right. You're

32:42

going, QB. Who are you taking?

32:47

Gonna go with? Drake may Or?

32:49

Who North Carolina.

32:52

I know the mox

32:54

A lot a lot of mocks out there, by the way, a lot

32:56

a lot of mocks. I will never do a mock that

32:59

series at Go Along because I

33:01

just feel like it's the ultimate grift. Sorry

33:04

if I'm offending mockers out there, but good

33:07

lord, the seven round box Connor, I've

33:09

had enough.

33:09

I've had enough of them.

33:11

But anyways, for the purposes of this and us

33:13

playing gms and having fun, I've

33:16

just come a long ways on Drake May. I feel like we

33:18

can't overthink it. He is as

33:21

close to Josh Allen, justin

33:23

Herbert as we have in this draft.

33:26

Just big athletic

33:28

strong arm Ron said.

33:30

Look, he's gonna have bad games. I remember watching

33:32

Josh Allen against Oregon. I think,

33:35

you know, when he was a highly touted

33:37

draft prospect that fall. I'm like, I got to watch this Josh

33:40

Allen guy, got the Fubo subscription

33:42

and it was the only way to watch him play Oregon,

33:45

and it was in the rain, and he looked terrible.

33:48

And then you come around to find out, well, he

33:50

didn't have a lot around him and he's

33:53

still doing some special things with his arm. I

33:55

feel that way with Drake May. I don't

33:57

know how it's gonna work out with the commanders and the

33:59

players will have around them, and the coaching

34:02

remains to be seen.

34:03

I would selfishly love to see.

34:05

Drake May go to the Giants with Dable

34:07

or somehow the Vikings with O'Connell. But

34:10

yes, if I've got this pick, I'm going

34:12

Drake May.

34:13

And I'm not thinking twice well

34:16

done. Well, I'll say this. We're gonna go over,

34:18

We're gonna we're gonna flash the

34:21

You know how the all the people on the draft

34:24

podium pretend not to know the

34:26

picks, and so they kind of intimate

34:28

it and they're like, maybe they should take a running

34:30

back here, Like I'll pretend

34:32

to be rich Eyes. And I'm not doing a Richison

34:34

impression, by the way. Richison's great, but I'm just gonna

34:36

be like, hmm. I wonder if

34:39

the Minnesota Vikings are celebrating because

34:41

we're trading up. The Patriots are out of there,

34:43

they're getting Jacoby Brissette. They're gonna

34:45

bore their fans to tears this year and

34:48

and punish them, and then they're gonna do something with a veteran

34:50

I think next year. So the Vikings

34:52

just run up here, they sprint up here.

34:55

They they add a little bit more trade

34:58

equity to the fold. They get up to numbers three,

35:00

and we're getting Jade and Daniels, my favorite

35:02

quarterback of the draft. I'm iron beyond

35:05

jacked. If this is the case, I get to pair

35:07

Kevin O'Connell Jade and Daniels,

35:10

this is just gonna be. This is money.

35:12

He's my guy, Tyler. This is this is

35:14

the guy that I'm putting it on the line for

35:17

this year. He is my favorite player in the draft.

35:20

I like everything about him. I think

35:22

he's gonna be a superstar.

35:24

I tell you what I thought that Herm Edwards we

35:27

caught up a couple of weeks ago.

35:28

His comp made a lot of sense.

35:30

Randall Conningham six, Wow,

35:33

lanky, athletic, big arm.

35:36

Now that elbow is a little funky. We

35:38

all saw the picture, right, jayde and Daniels elbow.

35:41

Not sure what's going on there? I don't care. Yeah,

35:43

me taking Drake May is not an anti Jaden Daniels

35:46

pick.

35:46

He's he might be a

35:48

star because there aren't dudes that

35:50

are that tall with that kind of arm,

35:53

that kind of running ability. My one question

35:55

for you, Connor though, are you are you worried at all? And

35:58

Nate Tice has made this point and he's a

36:01

smart guy, like he wasn't like creating,

36:04

like improvising it despite

36:07

like all the big plays. It was kind of like robotic.

36:10

He ran when he had a ran, had

36:12

a ran, had to run. It

36:15

wasn't like he's kind of doing

36:17

the funky things that even a drake may did with

36:19

the different arm angles and and

36:21

and create.

36:21

I don't know.

36:22

I mean, I'm nitpicking here, but does any of that

36:24

stuff bother you?

36:25

Sure it does. And the other the one thing

36:28

that I don't like about uh

36:30

Jaden Daniels and Albert and I talked about this last

36:33

week. He brought it up. It's a great point, and I went and

36:35

I looked into it. Even more so

36:37

is he takes a lot of hits. He doesn't fall

36:39

well right, And so like you have guys

36:42

like Bryce Young who you

36:44

know, it's like an armadillo when anyone gets near him, he

36:46

just curls up in a ball and just falls to the ground,

36:48

which is what you're supposed to do. And Jayden

36:50

is he's out there, man. I mean this guy's

36:52

taking shots, and so am I

36:55

worried about that, absolutely, But

36:58

I think you put

37:01

another twenty five thirty pounds

37:03

on this guy over the course of the career, and

37:06

you have something. And I

37:09

just hearing about his backstory, reading

37:12

about all the things that LSU has done

37:14

to get this guy to this point his experiences.

37:17

I love the transfer portal, kids, I really

37:19

do. I like the idea that you had

37:21

to go to another school, you had to

37:23

win over another locker room. Jayden Daniels

37:26

had to go to LSU. You know, his

37:28

family can't come visit him. The weather's

37:30

weird, the people are just totally

37:33

different out there. There's no California

37:35

cool out there, you know, And so you're dealing

37:37

with all of this stuff. And I

37:39

think that there's a maturity there. So I like that

37:41

about him too. I think he's going to come in and win over

37:43

a locker room. And you know, you got Kevin

37:45

O'Connell call him plays for you your money.

37:47

I mean this, let's take it to the bank.

37:49

I mean, come on, it's a great

37:51

fit. That'd be so much fun.

37:53

I should have mentioned too, like so Herm coached

37:55

him at Arizona State, and also he had

37:57

Randall Cunningham at the end of his career with the Buck

38:01

Joe there, so he did.

38:02

You know, it's not just out of thin air.

38:04

I mean, if you're getting a modern day Randall Cunningham,

38:06

that'd be that'd be a hell of a lot of fun in Minnesota

38:09

too.

38:10

Herm Edwards has the best player comps. You

38:12

and I both did stories. Yours is much better

38:14

on Rashad White before he came out,

38:16

and I remember Herm Edwards saying that he was Marcus

38:19

Allen and I love that, you

38:21

know, I love that he's willing to go go

38:23

out there like that. All right,

38:26

so you're the Arizona Cardinals

38:29

GM at number four, assuming

38:31

you didn't accidentally

38:34

break some sort of NFL rule and you're gonna lose

38:36

this pick. What are you doing here

38:38

at number four? I think I know what I would do,

38:42

Stay.

38:42

Right there and draft Marvin Harrison

38:44

junior receiver.

38:46

Ohio.

38:47

Yes, too easy, too easy. We all saw

38:49

him dominant.

38:52

It's when you would try to nitpick. I

38:54

guess what he doesn't block as

38:56

well?

38:57

Who cares? Who gives

38:59

a damn? He is got

39:01

the catch radius, the speed.

39:03

I mean, he can get in and out of cuts like he's five

39:05

nine, Like a team

39:07

like the Cardinals. They got to be careful here because

39:10

I get it, like, you're in it for.

39:11

The long haul.

39:12

You've got a million needs. You

39:14

know, Ownership isn't gonna be in a rush to fire you.

39:16

You could trade down, but I'm thinking of the

39:19

Browns. You know, back in was it the year they took

39:21

Corey Coleman eventually like at sixteen.

39:23

Overall, yeah, I feel like teams like that, they

39:25

trade down a million times, and then

39:28

you do you need dudes, you need

39:30

playmakers, you need stars.

39:33

You're staring at one right there at number four.

39:36

Just take them.

39:37

He is he's the you know, and I've

39:40

seen that, you know, scouts

39:42

say this other places where it's just the

39:44

cleanest prospect that they've ever scouted.

39:47

And it's one of those things

39:49

where you know, I'm I'm

39:51

not saying this makes me an expert, right, but when

39:54

when you start coaching youth

39:56

sports, there's one kid

39:58

that is so much bet better than everybody

40:00

else that you're like, my god, right, and then they get

40:03

to the next level and everything evens out, and then there's

40:05

another kid that is just so much better than

40:07

everybody else, and they get to the next level and it evens

40:09

out. Marvin Harrison was that, like

40:13

he was the five year old

40:15

T ball dominant in the

40:17

Big ten, like guys just

40:20

creating miles of separation.

40:22

And you know, he's got a great head coach, he's

40:24

got good play callers, he's got good people around

40:26

him. He's got other good wide receivers. But man,

40:29

when when this guy, when you

40:31

don't have three people on him, it's it's a touchdown.

40:34

And I think that's gonna hold in the NFL.

40:36

I don't think mu's just gonna change.

40:37

There was it

40:39

the Pence State game early in the year when

40:41

he he had an injury.

40:43

I just remember watching the game early in the season.

40:46

He goes down for the count like he's

40:48

down, and I just remember feeling like

40:50

so unbelievably bummed out, like, oh my god,

40:53

like I hope that this guy didn't just suffer an injury

40:55

that's gonna screw him up for the next year. In the end,

40:57

he's, you know, that talented. You just want to see him

41:00

and look a who's throwing them the ball. Talk about

41:02

circumstance, not exactly

41:04

you know, a future NFL

41:07

caliber quarterback there. He

41:09

had to make a lot on his own.

41:12

I do remember when they were playing

41:14

Maryland this year, and you know it's a

41:16

tight game in the fourth quarter for some reason

41:18

and all like that.

41:21

That's how you know it's the guy. Right,

41:23

it's close your eyes and throw the ball to Marvin Harrison

41:25

time. Right, it's just that

41:28

guy. It's like a kicking and screaming right the Will

41:30

Ferrell movie. Just pass it to the Italians, right,

41:32

And that's what they did with Marvin Harrison.

41:34

So great pick by.

41:35

Tyler, great reference.

41:39

We're pick number five, and Tyler,

41:42

we're gonna do it again. We're gonna make

41:44

another move because you

41:46

know, this is fun. This is what we're supposed

41:49

to do. The run on wide receivers

41:51

has happened. Everybody's panicking.

41:53

Everybody's freaking out. They don't know who

41:55

they're gonna get. They don't know who they want. And

41:58

upcome the New York Jet, the Jetropolitans

42:01

to number five. They're gonna trade up with

42:04

the Chargers. Jim Harball

42:06

wants picks. Jim Harball wants an offensive

42:09

tackle. It's not offensive tackle time. Okay,

42:12

So the Jets know that after

42:15

this season, the Jets,

42:17

the Jets are like your The Jets

42:19

are like your very financially irresponsible

42:22

cousin who has it all riding

42:24

on Tesla. Right, He's got all that he's

42:26

got, He's got everything in Tesla, you know, and

42:28

all of a sudden, you're you're

42:30

worried about him, You're freaked out. And then he's

42:32

like, guess what, I took all my test I doubled

42:34

down on Tesla. And that's what the Jets are gonna do. They're

42:37

gonna come up and they're gonna get Melik neighbors. So

42:39

Aaron Rodgers is gonna have Garrett

42:41

Wilson, He's gonna have Melik neighbors.

42:44

And who knows, maybe they might trade for another veteran

42:46

during the draft. Tyler, I don't know, but it's

42:48

gonna be wild. It's gonna be crazy.

42:52

The Jets are going to be what

42:54

was the like Tropics. It's gonna be at the cast of

42:56

Tropic Thunder. It's just gonna be stars on

42:58

top of stars on top of stars,

43:01

and Malik neighbors and Garrett Wilson. Plus

43:04

what do you think about that?

43:06

You know, I'm thinking more of a nothing

43:08

but trouble with Chevy Chase and

43:11

John candy. You know Demi Moore,

43:13

I'm thinking, wait, wait did that come in about three percent?

43:16

And Rotten Tomatoes one of the worst movies of

43:18

all time. I remember watching it in high

43:20

school and it's it's

43:23

hot garbage.

43:24

I think that's where the Jets are headed.

43:26

Yeah, regardless of what they do here my

43:28

question for you, like, so Aaron Rodgers clearly.

43:30

The assistant GM last year.

43:32

They they're you know, bringing in the corpse

43:34

of Randall Cobb and Mercedes Lewis and

43:37

just doing whatever he wants. That's

43:39

what you get when he's your quarterback. So does

43:41

he sit in on these meetings? I want to I would

43:43

love to see like a pre draft

43:45

meeting and when a player visits

43:48

warm Park, right, that's where the Jets are. Is

43:50

Aaron in there like asking prospects

43:52

stuff like like he asked Deshaun Kaiser,

43:55

like do you believe in nine to eleven?

43:56

Like is he is he asking guys like.

43:58

You're they're for their thoughts on Sandy Hook and nine

44:00

to eleven? And I just

44:02

I'm not quite sure the extent

44:05

to which he's involved, but.

44:08

Unbelievable. Man.

44:09

You have to point this stuff out because it's so

44:12

Eppen crazy, I mean, and

44:15

then the next crazy thing happens, and then the

44:17

next and the next, and it's like, oh.

44:18

It's Aaron just being air No, Like

44:20

that's nuts.

44:21

That's how Remember that came out with the Sean Kaiser on that

44:23

podcast and Kaiser's talking about it.

44:25

It's like like that that

44:29

needs to be pointed out, like this is not normal

44:31

behavior.

44:33

I would love like just to be in Like you think

44:35

about the combine and you're in one of those little radio

44:37

booths with like all the scouts and Aaron Rodgers

44:39

just sitting there like hands folded, and everyone's like, okay,

44:41

third and five. You know you're looking at cover two,

44:43

like you know, where's your hot route? Like where

44:45

you're going with the ball or can you diagnose this coverage?

44:48

And then Aaron Aaron Rodgers is like yeah, and like

44:50

you know, what do you think is really under

44:52

all that ice in Antarctica? You know, like, what's

44:54

what's going on there? Don't you think the government's

44:56

got something going on down there? You know? The guy's

44:59

like what would be it's

45:02

it's probably an effective curveball, right,

45:04

you know, to have him on the draft meetings, right, It's like remember

45:06

the one guy who would ask the guy like I remember

45:08

talking to uh,

45:11

oh, I'm gonna get it

45:13

wrong. It was so just take this in generalities.

45:16

It was like I remember it was like the Mantiiteo

45:18

year. But there was some team that we're asking

45:20

players like what's

45:23

the largest animal you could kill with your bare

45:25

hands? Like there's some and

45:28

the like, you know, to just like try to give the guys

45:30

like off there, which is a fun curveball question.

45:32

By the way, I'd love I'd love that, you know, who's.

45:34

The lineman said he wished he had a bigger you

45:37

know what. H not sure what we can

45:39

and can't say on here, but again, like

45:42

you know, to an extent, I guess I can see the value

45:44

and to an extent it is good to question some

45:47

things like whatever's going on in Antarctica? I suppose,

45:49

but but man, I don't

45:52

know. Man, it's just you know, when he's

45:54

when he's oh god, here I got We

45:56

always joke on our podcast. It always turns into

45:58

like either Roger's Talk or Homestock.

46:00

It does. That's fine.

46:02

He did win MVP not too long

46:04

ago, but he didn't look good his last

46:06

year in Green Bay. He tore his achilles,

46:08

and what point is it just not worth

46:11

it?

46:11

Like Green Bay decided it is just not worth

46:13

it, and they decided that.

46:15

After they paid him that three year,

46:17

one hundred and fifty mili extension. I

46:20

wonder when the Jets get there, we'll

46:23

see Yeah, you know, he's played a grand total of like

46:25

a play or two plays, whatever it was, so they haven't

46:28

really seen anything yet. It

46:30

could go hard one direction or the other. The scenario

46:32

you paint there, Connor is. I

46:35

mean, if they have Garrett

46:37

Wilson, Malik Neighbors, Mike Williams,

46:41

Breesaw, like, you can talk yourself

46:43

into the Jets.

46:44

As the Bills are kind of going through.

46:46

I still think the Bills windows open, but a

46:48

lot of talent did leave the building.

46:52

It can go.

46:53

It could It could end in spectacular

46:55

fashion, or it could just be spectacularly

46:58

terrible.

47:00

Let's go to the other New York team now, because

47:03

you know, I liked going to Giants

47:06

for training camp this past year because it felt

47:08

like it felt like when you got the gabana

47:11

at the all Inclusive resort. It was nice and

47:13

shady, no one bothering you. Everyone's

47:15

over at the Jets. The chaos is over there, that's Cancun.

47:18

We're over here on the nice side. We're just chilling

47:20

out. They're doing it the right way. Who do you

47:22

have, Brian Dable take it. You and I are both

47:24

on the Dabes train, right, You and I both like our like

47:26

us some Dabes were You're Dab's guy.

47:29

Yeah.

47:29

I think he was the

47:32

next to Josh Allen, the most important,

47:35

I agree, person in the building in Buffalo. Guys

47:39

love him. They want to run through a wall for him. Off the

47:41

field, I mean, he developed real relationships

47:43

with players. They'd just be hanging out, cooking out, doing

47:46

all that fund But you

47:49

see him like rip guys on the sideline,

47:51

like Tyrod Taylor at the end of the first half

47:53

against Buffalo. But and if

47:55

you're on the outside, you think, wow, that looks

47:58

unprofessional. Wow that's got to piss off that player.

48:00

But no, he can do that because he's got real

48:02

relationships with guys.

48:04

It's rare in the business.

48:05

It's hard to get to that point as a coach

48:08

where you can do that. And when it comes to the

48:10

x's and O stuff, he got the absolute

48:12

best out of Josh Allen. Stefan Diggs

48:15

this Bill's offense. I

48:17

think we might be looking back at that as well. They had

48:19

something really special with Josh Allen and Brian

48:21

Dable and they should have kept that thing together as

48:24

long as they possibly could.

48:25

So, yeah, he's gonna want his own quarterback, I think.

48:28

And I got

48:30

feeling more than anything Potter, I think he would

48:32

love to get him some Drake May because

48:34

I think Drake May similar to Josh Allen, is

48:36

like he kind of approaches the

48:38

sport the same way, not too seriously,

48:42

just out there like it's the backyard, having

48:44

fun. Guys resonate with with

48:46

that. They want to rail around a quarterback like that. I

48:49

think they're gonna do everything in their power to move up and try

48:51

to get Drake May.

48:53

If they're here. I don't know what they think about J. J. McCarthy.

48:56

I've already said what I think about JJ McCarthy. So

48:58

am I picking?

48:59

Asked the job? Answer is something? Am I picking as myself

49:01

here? This is where it can start.

49:02

Picking as a as

49:05

a fellow ball that I can say that you and me

49:07

gotta channel Dapes. You know, you gotta you

49:09

gotta rub your heads together and you got to come

49:12

up with something that's gonna work for the two of you.

49:16

JJ McCarthy. It is J.

49:18

J.

49:19

McCarthy.

49:19

It is here on this on

49:21

the same podcast.

49:22

I think we both exhausted

49:25

every JJ McCarthy take. I'm both endsit

49:27

the spectrum. You can talk yourself in and out. But

49:30

with this coach, he

49:32

will succeed. I think whoever goes

49:34

to the Giants will succeed at quarterback.

49:37

And even though they paid Daniel Jones,

49:40

they can get out of that contrast relatively

49:43

unscathed after this year, and and now

49:45

you don't need to play that rookie right away. I think they're

49:47

being honest when they say Daniel Jones is

49:49

their Week one starter. I don't think want to rush a

49:51

rookie out there. But it also gives

49:54

you your guy. I mean, you want

49:56

to go down swing it if you're Joe Shane

49:58

and Brian Dable with your quarterback

50:00

that you've drafted, that you've identified.

50:03

So yeah, let's go with JA J. McCarthy.

50:05

They see just enough in those what though

50:07

those ten pass attempt games

50:10

to take the Michigan quarterback and J.

50:12

J. McCarthy becomes a perennial pro bowler.

50:15

All right, So we're

50:18

pick number seven. We're flying through the first round

50:20

here. I

50:22

think the next for me, the next ones

50:25

feel a little bit obvious, like if everything breaks

50:27

this way, we got tackles that are coming up

50:29

on the board. Here we got the Titans. Like

50:32

I like Roma Dunze. I

50:35

think that Brian Callahan was on

50:37

that Bengals team when it was Pina

50:39

sul or Jamar Chase. I think he

50:42

saw how Jamar Chase transformed

50:44

that organization, how he made life

50:46

easier for Joe Burrow. Maybe he

50:48

sits with Will Levis and says, who do you want?

50:50

I think Adunze did wonders for Michael

50:53

Pennix, helped him elevate his game. I'm

50:55

going wide receiver at number seven for the for

50:57

the Titans.

51:00

I love it because you could say Joe Alt,

51:02

you could say Alignement, you could get any defensive player

51:04

you want. Look, the NFL just told you

51:07

they don't give a damn about defense.

51:09

They don't. They don't want anybody, Yeah, stupping

51:11

anybody, the hip

51:13

drop tackle.

51:14

I feel like that was just invented a year

51:16

ago, right, the term itself,

51:18

Like, let's let's just casually just nudge

51:21

it into the public lexicon of year in

51:23

advance and then ban this thing that's happened

51:25

forever. So yeah, football is changing into something

51:27

that is hardly recognizable. Going to

51:29

get ot my soapbox as always. So

51:32

yeah, if you why fight gravity? Like,

51:34

why just take receivers in

51:37

high abundance? You got DeAndre Hopkins,

51:40

You've got Calvin Ridley, you got Traylon

51:42

Burks, get a doom say too?

51:44

Why not?

51:45

Yeah?

51:45

Load it up, baby? Half those guys aren't gonna be

51:47

there anymore, and you'd want your receiver

51:50

maybe maybe not to learn from. I

51:52

don't know, you don't want them to like, but just

51:55

you know, watch watch DeAndre Hopkins,

51:57

watch him, watch them see how he gets open. You know what

52:00

be with Calvin Ridley, you know, be in

52:02

that mix, you know, challenge Trayling

52:04

Burks. Like you said, I don't know, I like it. We

52:07

got eight nine to ten coming up here, Tyler,

52:09

you are the Atlanta Falcons, you are Raheem

52:11

Morris. What are you gonna do?

52:13

I just made the argument that if a

52:15

Dunze does fall to their pick, they should take

52:18

him, even after Darnell

52:20

Mooney and who else they traded for. Rondell Moore,

52:22

who I guess is a wide receiver and paying

52:24

for Kirk Cousins. I think the Falcons should go offensive

52:27

weapon here.

52:27

To I get it.

52:29

They haven't really had a pass

52:31

rusher since since John Abraham,

52:34

what thirteen years ago. They had one really good year

52:36

of Vic Beasley, and then he he's in the UFL

52:38

right now. So you probably

52:40

should take a defensive player here. If you're the

52:42

Falcons, you probably should

52:44

take Dallas Turner.

52:46

But screw it.

52:47

I'm running the dead Atlanta Falcons right now. Connor,

52:50

and guess what I'm taking Brian

52:52

Thomas, wide receiver Lsu.

52:56

Yes, because I don't give a damn.

52:58

I'm just gonna outscore everybody. We're gonna to score

53:00

thirty five points a game. Kirk Cousins

53:02

thrown it all over the yard, b Jean Robinson,

53:05

Kyle Pitts, Drake London.

53:06

It's gonna be fun.

53:08

Just a wealth of offense. Well,

53:11

yeah, like I know.

53:13

What, it's just get a turnover here and there. That's

53:16

that's all pissed together. A pass

53:18

rush.

53:19

You're not gonna nobody's gonna stop anybody.

53:22

Resurrect the ghost of Mike Leach and score

53:24

sixty three points a game because that's what

53:26

this is about. Let's be honest.

53:29

Number nine, I'm the Raiders. I didn't I should

53:32

have counted. I knew that they were gonna be here

53:34

at this point in the draft, which you know, whatever,

53:36

But I don't know what they do here. I

53:40

guess you're you know, I think they've

53:42

intimated that maybe that a quarterback

53:44

is possible. If I'm Antonio Pierce, I

53:47

don't think I want. I

53:49

don't know if I want a rookie quarterback because

53:52

that really starts my timeline.

53:54

I'm already a defensive head coach. I

53:56

think it's gonna complicate things like

53:58

if I'm him, I want the

54:00

number one defensive

54:03

weapon in this class because

54:06

I want to flex my muscle and

54:08

I want to show people that,

54:11

hey, I'm proficient in

54:14

what I major in. You know what I mean, I'm proficient

54:16

in defense. I'm the best defensive

54:19

head coach. So that

54:21

complicates things, right, Because we're in an offensive

54:24

heavy draft. I guess you could argue

54:26

that the best player not

54:30

on offense at all is what. I don't know.

54:34

Terry and Arnold, you

54:36

know Brock. That's the other thing that Brock

54:39

Bowers is still here Dallas

54:41

Turner. I mean, you know, what do

54:43

you do? Do you assume something

54:46

like and does he fit there?

54:48

I guess you kind of you make your

54:50

scheme fit. I mean, do you do

54:53

Dallas Turner and you

54:55

just say, like, go ahead and try to block us up.

54:57

We got Christian Milkins, we got Max

55:00

Rosby, we have all this,

55:02

you know, all this stuff, and we're gonna throw

55:04

the best edge rusher into the draft at

55:06

you. I don't know, what do you think about that?

55:09

I like it. I me

55:12

and talked me into anything.

55:13

I don't. I feel like, yeah,

55:15

if you're not gonna take a weapon, then

55:17

you might as well find somebody that's just gonna wreck

55:20

wreck stuff.

55:22

Right, I mean, you know, and you have you know.

55:24

I'm not saying because they have Michael Mayer that

55:26

they're not gonna take brock Bowers. I mean you could take

55:28

brock Bowers and maybe that's the best

55:30

thing that you could do there for Aidan O'Connell and

55:32

Gardner Minshew. I don't know, but I

55:35

don't know. I let's not overthink

55:37

this. Dallas Turner is here. I'm

55:39

gonna flip the card over to you at pick number

55:41

ten. The Chargers are there, and I

55:43

don't know if I'm if I'm you,

55:45

if I'm Jim Harbaugh. I think that this thing has broken

55:48

exactly the way that I want it to. He's

55:51

been talking about offensive lineman all all

55:53

year. Is he going with the tackle here

55:55

to close out our top ten mock draft.

55:58

He's got to go with the tackle. He's

56:00

gonna want to run the ball. Greg Roman back

56:03

with his buddy Jim Harball. They're

56:05

gonna run even with Justin Herbert,

56:08

even with that contract.

56:09

So you need Joe Alt. You have to go with the

56:11

best on the board. Take him.

56:13

Don't think twice. It's

56:15

gonna I'm really fascinated about the Chargers.

56:17

We we could probably spend an hour on them, but I would

56:20

not bet against Jim Harball, even if

56:23

everything we're talking about is making people's

56:25

eyes roll to the back of their heads.

56:26

Run the ball.

56:28

Like prioritizing the

56:30

line. Greg Roman didn't Steve Smith call

56:32

this an elementary passing game. Our veteran

56:34

receivers running away from that kind

56:37

of scheme. Well, it

56:39

works everywhere Harball goes. It's gonna

56:42

work with the Chargers. Maybe not this

56:44

year, twenty twenty five, for sure.

56:46

I love it,

56:49

so concludes the top ten of the draft.

56:52

This, this is how it's gonna go. What

56:54

is the what is the water

56:56

Boy? What does the water boys? Girlfriend say?

57:00

When Lynn Swan asked her for the prediction, she

57:02

goes, that's not a prediction. That's what

57:04

it's going to be. And so that's

57:07

all right, guys. You guys heard it here first.

57:09
