A very funny comedian who left the party way too early, Mitch Hedberg, has a bit that references the cheesy 80's commercials that would take a product and run over it with a steam roller to prove the product's durability. Or something. But Mitch was smart. Even better, he was cleaver. So he made the turn a question: "well what runs over the steamroller to assure it's quality?"
So what's my point?
My point is that pretty much everything, at some point, is held to a standard. This includes words, which, regardless of how you or I choose to use them, have a set meaning that was made long before you or me
Yet somehow we still mess them up. Here's a little rant from me about the real definition of 'work'..
