When humanity came North, into the lands of the wolf, we must have competed very directly, for hunting grounds and prey, for territory. We made dogs out of them, or they made dogs themselves, and the wolves we ended up eradicating from great swathes of the planet. Was there ever a balance? Did we ever live in a kind of harmony? Even today, wolves will sometimes track hunting parties, waiting to scavenge at the kill site. Did we share even more, before the closeness and cooperation faded as our kind withdrew from the cold, dark places into our houses, towns and cities?
