DIY Video Classes

There are several DIY classes that I’m looking forward to teaching.

  1. DIY – Lighting and Sound
  2. Getting Started with Facebook Live Video
  3. Honing Your Message & Presenting On Camera
  4. Video Editing – iMovie
  5. DSLR Cameras for Video

The goal of these classes is to help more wellness entrepreneurs and coaches get comfortable with making their own videos for their business. I love video and how it’s able to connect us to our audience.

Rethinking Time Management

There are 3 stages of development according to a research study sited in Craig Manning book: The Fearless MindThe Fearless Mind

I’ve renamed the 3 stages as follows:

Stage 1: Rapid Growth (or Present Mind)

In Rapid Growth, we are focused on what’s present before us. It could be a project or task, a relationship, an emotion. We are engaged in this present moment, developing our skills, building relationships, becoming aware of our thoughts and emotions.

Generally, in this stage we are in our joy. Because there is no comparisons or concern about future outcomes, we fully enjoy the people or task before us.

It’s impossible for us to stay in this stage all of the time. We often slip into stage 2 thinking.

Stage 2: Slow Growth

This is where we start to compare ourselves. We think about winning or losing, the outcomes. We judge ourselves and others. Fear, anxiety, and worry all creep into this stage of thinking. Regrets of the past come up. Thoughts like: “I should have…” or “I should be…“ appear in our mental scripting. All of this drains our energy and slows our growth. Our minds become distracted, often on things with which we have no or little control.

Stage 3: No Growth

Stage 3 is when our mind gets stuck. We might physically show up, but mentally and emotionally we have shutdown. Our perceived lack of success, feelings of low self-worth, and overthinking lead to overcompensating and numbing behaviors. Without actively developing our skills, unclear on our purpose, and lacking passion, we experience no growth, no joy, and no fulfillment.

Time Management vs. Attention Management

A recent article by Jeremy Hunter, PhD addresses the false idea of time management. Hunter explains what we really can manage is not time but our attention.

“Who actually can manage time? Can you make the future come faster or return to the past? Unless you’re a sci-fi hero, no. What people actually do in the flow of time is manage attention.”

He shares how habits need to serve our true intentions. Often we wake up and simply go through the motions and same mental scripting (stage 2 and 3). The first step then, is to get clear on our intentions for the day. I am personally doing this by selecting one priority in the morning, one priority midday, and one priority for the evening. While other things may come up, my mental focus and activities are to be redirected to this one priority.

For example, on Sunday morning my priority was to attend church with my family. That meant not worrying about money, or my next project. It also meant not running any mental “I should have… or I should be…” scripts. My intention was to do everything in my powerful to be fully present with supporting my family in attending church.

Having a single priority for morning, midday, and evening, will not only help us to stay more present, it will also help us be aware of and say no to, less important priorities. Another benefit of this attention management is it’s flexibility. Often my wife and I will switch off watching the kids for example so we can both work on our projects. We can plan and coordinate our daily priorities to complement and support each other.
