Experts Losing 15 percent of your bodyweight may be the best treatment for diabetes

Diabetes and obesity often go hand-in-hand when it comes to declining health. With that in mind, a team of researchers says drastic weight loss may be the best medicine to treat and possibly cure cases of type 2 diabetes.

Study authors find that a drop in bodyweight of 15 percent should become the primary focus for patients dealing with type 2 diabetes (T2D). They add significant weight loss shows the potential to slow or even reverse the condition in many cases. Weight loss also cuts down on the medical complications which can stem from having diabetes while being overweight.

Junk driving: How your diet can impact your chances of being in a car accident

Motorists whose diets are loaded with sugar, processed meats, and junk food are more likely to be involved in a car accident, according to new research. Scientists say snacking on burgers, sausage rolls, and biscuits – or guzzling soft drinks — is linked to riskier behavior behind the wheel, too.

Two years ago a study of almost 400 lorry drivers in China found those who ate plenty of fried foods – such as the traditional trucker’s breakfast – drove worse behind the wheel. They concluded that junk food diets and unhealthy snacks contribute to fatigue – which can lead to dangerous driving. This latest study of 817 Estonians adds to evidence that what you eat can predict how safely you drive. Higher accident and driving conviction rates were identified among those with poor diets

Researchers from Concordia University looked at the relationship between exercise and sleep quality across 15 published studies. The results show, although everyone’s sleep cycles are a little different, a heavy workout within two hours of your normal bedtime can disrupt how much rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep you get that night.

Longevity: The best diet to reduce disease risk and add nearly 10 years more to your life

Researchers from Loma Linda University, America, discovered that a specific type of diet prolonged the lives of men for nearly a decade – that is 10 extra years of life you could enjoy. In fact, men who followed a vegetarian diet were likely to reach 83 years of age. To compare, in the study analysis, men who did not follow a vegetarian diet lived up till 73 years of age.
