PROLOGUE: This podcast is hosted, for the most part at least, by Barry Passmore. Barry is a chartered valuation surveyor and estate agent with over 35 years of professional experience behind him. In the various episodes he will be taking a critical look at the world of estate agency and exposing its various shortcomings. This is not so much a critique, however, as an invitation to step back and take a fresh look at how property is sold in this country. He will be reviewing the various selling options that are today available and encouraging a more considered approach to choosing an agent. It is an approach which he feels might well lead many to the abandonment of some of the entrenched habits of the past. In course of his review he will also be looking to dispel some of the myths and correct some of the misunderstandings that are endemic in the industry (which he would very much prefer to see as a profession) and save the listener from falling through these well-trodden trapdoors.The arrival and rise to pre-eminence of the digital marketing of property has seen an inexorable and irreversible transformation in the world of estate agency. We find ourselves today in an entirely new era of modern agency that is brimming with opportunity. Opportunity not only for the vendor to experience a much more professional service but also for anyone who might feel so inclined to earn some legitimate and ethical, freelance income whether that be on a full or very much part time basis.
