Mark: Hey, what's going on? Welcome to the Podcast Accelerator back from hiatus.

0:07

I am your host, Mr. Mark Asquith, co-founder of Captivate.fm.

0:13

And in this short episode, I just want to give you a bit of a bonus look at

0:18

what is coming up here on the podcast accelerator as we ramp up to the first.

0:24

Proper episode dropping very, very shortly.

0:27

So if you've tuned into the, the, the episode that I previously put out

0:31

about why I took the hiatus and, and, and I think what Motivate motivated

0:36

me for, for coming back, you'll know that I wanted to do two things.

0:40

I wanted to stay focused on your podcast growth. You know, what, what can we do collectively as Captivate, but

0:46

also collectively as an industry to help you to grow your podcast

0:50

because that's why we are here. And in particular, it's why I.

0:54

I've brought this content back. The podcast accelerator is one of the OG shows now, believe it or not,

0:59

it's one of the OG shows helping you with your podcast growth.

1:02

We've seen a lot of gurus pop up over the last year or two, um, who have got, you

1:06

know, um, varying experience in podcasting and, uh, looking to capitalize on, on

1:12

the booming industry that is podcasting by bringing out shows, uh, that, that

1:16

purport to help you to grow your podcast. And I'm not saying they're good.

1:18

I'm not saying they're bad. They're all subjective.

1:21

Of course, that is entirely up to you. However, my focus is on action.

1:26

It's on about basically getting you to do things.

1:29

It's all about making sure that you know what you can do within

1:32

the boundaries of your timeframes. And not feeling bad about not doing certain things.

1:38

I think that's a bit of a problem in the industry.

1:41

You know, if you don't adopt certain things, if you don't jump on certain

1:44

trends, if you don't do certain things, a lot of people will frankly make

1:48

you feel bad and, you know, make you feel like you're not a quote unquote.

1:51

Proper podcaster, which is of course absolute rubbish.

1:55

So I never wanna make you feel like that. You know me, if you've listened to this show for the, for the hundreds of episodes

2:00

and all the thousands of episodes that I've done in the past, across the very

2:03

shows that I've done, you know, that I am very much about being honest with you.

2:09

I'm very much about being straight, talking. I'm very, very, very much about cutting down on the hyperbole and

2:15

making sure that you know that. It's all right not to do everything.

2:20

It's quite all right not to do everything.

2:23

So what does this mean for this podcast?

2:26

How does that manifest into content?

2:29

Well, as I mentioned on the previous coming out of hiatus episode, I'm,

2:34

I'm mixing things up a little bit. I'm still gonna keep that red thread running through, which

2:38

is, of course actionable Straight talking podcast growth education.

2:43

And a lot of that will come from me. You know, I'm still gonna do solo shows, I'm still gonna do solo episodes cuz

2:48

everything's changing and there's a lot of education to give and I'm still being

2:52

a marketer, I'm still being a podcaster.

2:55

So I've still got things to say. I've still got things to, to, to discuss with you and to educate

2:59

you on and to help you with. And obviously people ask me questions all the time, so of course

3:02

I wanna address those as well. However, I am gonna bring on some fantastic guests to talk about some.

3:10

Particular topics that they might be a little bit closer to or they've got

3:13

more of a dedicated interest in, or, you know, they're just, they focus

3:18

on a lot more specifically than I do.

3:21

So I'm looking forward to, to bringing those guests to the,

3:24

they're all people that I know. They're all people that are experts at what they do.

3:26

They're all people that if you're in the podcasting industry or if you are

3:30

even around the podcasting industry, then you're probably gonna know 'em.

3:34

So, Here's what's coming up. All right, we're gonna talk to start about, we're gonna do actually

3:41

three episodes on monetization.

3:43

I'm really interested in helping you to monetize your podcast,

3:46

so we're gonna talk about. Um, really how to use things like subscriptions and tipping and all

3:52

sorts of things like that, you know, the, the kinda listener support model.

3:55

Cause we get a lot of questions about that. I'm gonna talk first and foremost from my perspective.

4:00

I'm gonna do an episode on, on, on, on, on my views on that and how to design

4:04

that kind of listener support experience. Then I'm gonna talk to an expert, someone that's done this.

4:09

Well, alright, I'm gonna talk to an expert, someone that has done

4:12

this well about how to really harness that on a separate episode.

4:17

And then I'm gonna dig deep into really kind of scaling that and, and, and

4:21

going a bit deeper on, on the kind of how that model works and how you might

4:25

be able to help yourself to monetize fairly early on in your podcasting

4:29

journey using things like tipping and subscriptions and so on and so forth.

4:33

So I'm really looking forward. To that bunch of episodes.

4:36

We've also got an episode coming up, uh, about YouTube.

4:40

We're actually gonna talk about YouTube's free to podcasting.

4:43

What that means for you that that landscape.

4:46

Um, when it comes to, you know, what does this mean for podcasting, the

4:50

medium, but what does it also mean for you, the day-to-day podcaster?

4:53

And joining me on that episode is gonna be a good friend of mine and

4:56

someone that is, uh, is basically close to every part of podcasting.

5:00

Right now is of course, Mr. James Cridland, the founder and the editor of POD News.

5:05

So I'm looking forward to exploring YouTube's new podcasting toolkit with Mr.

5:10

Cridland, which is gonna be fascinating.

5:13

We are also gonna talk about. About community and in particular, The state of community in podcasting.

5:23

And what I mean by that is like you creating a community for your podcast.

5:28

Cuz it used to be that you, you know, you'd have a podcast and you'd fire up a

5:30

Facebook group and that was it, you know? But there are a lot of technical tools out there that will help with community and.

5:37

The attention spans that people have a very, very low in comparison

5:40

to what you might expect. So how do you actually get people to engage?

5:43

What does community around your podcast look like, look like today?

5:47

What does it look like in 2023? Because it is different to last year, the year before, and it's

5:52

probably gonna be different again over the next couple of years.

5:54

So that's a really important topic because I think without an audience

5:57

that is engaged, as you know, if you've listened to this show, You know you're

6:01

gonna struggle to do anything else. Alright. So that's really quite fascinating and I've also got what is quite

6:09

interesting for me that I'm looking forward to getting out.

6:11

Then an interview with me on my own show, reflecting on 10 years of podcasting.

6:19

An interview by my good friend, the founder of Pod Chat and Captivates.

6:24

Fantastic support and experience lead.

6:26

Mr. Danny Brown, someone that loves podcasting just as much as I do,

6:30

and has got his finger firmly on the pulse of the podcasting industry,

6:34

very much from a creator perspective. So he's actually interviewed me and he's, you know, we've talked about

6:40

the last 10 years in podcasting. What I think about a few things, what I think of a few things that might happen

6:44

in the future, and just generally the industry, it's quite a nice opportunity.

6:49

Um, to be interviewed on my own podcast.

6:51

It's been a while since I've done this on my show, so I'm really looking

6:55

forward to getting that out to you. It was a fantastic chat with Danny and I thank you my friend

6:58

Danny, for doing that as well.

7:01

So we've got a packed schedule. I'm looking forward to getting just back into the swing of things with you

7:07

and I'm excited to get this content out to you, but I wanted to give you

7:09

a heads up on what was coming because I didn't want you just thinking

7:12

well, I'll wait till it comes out. Marko.

7:15

You know, you've waited, you've been patient with me with the hiatus, and

7:18

I'm very, very grateful for that. So I wanted to do my part just to let you know what you can expect

7:22

of the coming weeks and months. So thank you so much for joining me.

7:26

I appreciate you. I want you to look after yourself.

7:29

Keep on podcasting, keep sharing your voice.

7:31

Keep doing what you do. Much love as ever.

7:34

Take it easy and just keep doing what you do.

7:37

All right? Get your voice out there and keep on building that audience because it

7:42

matters to the people who follow you.

7:45

Until next time, bye-bye for now.
