0:57
I'm the founder of Asian efficiency where we help people
0:59
become more productive at work and
1:01
in life. Today, it is Wednesday.
1:04
You know what that means. Another Wisdom
1:06
Wednesday episode where you are
1:08
going to get actionable productivity advice
1:11
in less than 10 minutes. Today's topic,
1:13
we are going to explore a
1:15
fundamental truth. As our
1:17
lives evolve, so must our
1:20
priorities. Over the past decade,
1:22
my life has been a
1:24
whirlwind of stuff happening and
1:26
changing all the time. I
1:28
found myself backpacking through different continents
1:30
all over the world, diving into
1:33
the entrepreneurial world with Asian
1:35
efficiency and other adventures, embracing
1:38
the thrill of new hobbies that I've
1:40
picked up, and also navigating the exciting
1:42
waters of a new
1:44
romantic relationship. Each of these
1:46
chapters brought its own set of demands,
1:49
joys, and challenges. Now,
1:51
with every new adventure, I kind of
1:54
realized very quickly that when you
1:56
stick to a rigid productivity method, that
1:59
was like trying to... fit a square peg into
2:01
a round hole. The strategies
2:03
that worked while I was a
2:05
solo traveler across the world weren't
2:08
as effective when I was building a
2:10
business nor nurturing a relationship.
2:13
So this journey taught me a very important lesson.
2:17
Adaptability is key. Our
2:19
priorities will shift as our
2:21
lives do and so do
2:23
our methods for managing time, energy,
2:26
and attention, and they must
2:28
evolve accordingly. So
2:30
how do we stay productive when there's
2:32
a constant change happening in our life?
2:35
Well the first thing I would say is you
2:38
want to embrace flexibility in your planning. Just
2:40
like a skilled sailor adjusts the sails
2:43
to the changing winds, learning
2:45
to tweak your routines and strategies to
2:47
fit your current life chapter is something
2:49
that's really important. This
2:51
is probably the biggest shift I've made in
2:53
the past few years. I used to be
2:55
very rigid. If you read some of
2:57
the Asian efficiency contents back in 2011, 2012, 2013, since around
3:04
that time, then you know I
3:06
had a very specific methodology around, hey,
3:08
this is how you schedule your calendar.
3:11
This is what your week is going to look like. This is
3:13
what you're going to stick to. This is
3:15
the thing that's most important and nothing
3:18
can be renegotiated. If
3:21
you looked at my own calendar during that
3:23
time, it was kind of like the game
3:25
of Tetris with a bunch of colorful blocks
3:28
next to each other and that it
3:30
was fully stacked. But
3:32
as my life has changed and my
3:34
philosophy has changed around productivity and happiness,
3:37
so has my planning. Now
3:40
I remember seeing this interview by a
3:42
neuroscientist a few years ago and someone
3:44
asked him about what happiness was. And
3:47
his response truly shocked me. I
3:50
thought it would be a scientific answer, but he said to
3:53
enjoy the passage of time.
3:57
So when someone asked him, how do you define happiness,
3:59
he said to... enjoy the passage
4:01
of time. And
4:04
that really struck a chord with me. Now, as
4:06
you know, I always
4:08
like to say happy people are productive people.
4:11
So when I heard that quote, I nodded,
4:13
I nodded, I nodded. To me,
4:15
that was just so true. And I
4:17
found that when you become more flexible in
4:19
your planning, you enjoy the
4:22
passage of time a whole lot more.
4:25
Now, in the past, I might have been
4:27
very adamant about, you know, keeping my meetings
4:29
or appointments or social plans. But now,
4:32
if it's not the end of
4:34
the world, and it doesn't negatively
4:36
affect other people, then yes, it's
4:38
okay to reschedule stuff and reprioritize
4:40
how you spend your time. Second
4:43
thing I will say is that you want
4:45
to stay anchored to your vision. Now, while
4:47
the methods might change, having
4:49
a clear vision provides direction and
4:52
makes sure that your
4:54
shifting priorities will lead you towards
4:56
your ultimate goals. Now
4:58
reflecting on my own life, each
5:00
pivot, each change, each new beginning
5:02
required a fresh approach to
5:05
how I manage my time, my energy,
5:07
and my attention. But
5:09
what remains constant throughout this whole
5:11
time was my vision
5:13
for a life of impacts, growth,
5:16
and happiness. Now, while
5:18
my day today might be different and
5:20
always changing, my vision didn't. It always
5:22
allowed me to stay centered and keep my eye
5:24
on what matters. So even if
5:27
I had to reschedule stuff and change plans, I
5:29
always try to keep in mind what my vision
5:31
is and what my top priorities
5:33
are. So one, I am spending time towards
5:35
my vision, but also two, I'm
5:38
enjoying the passage of time while I'm
5:40
doing it. So if you made it
5:42
this far, you know, we always like to end
5:44
with an action step and to make everything actionable.
5:47
So take a moment to assess your current
5:49
life stage. What has changed
5:52
recently? How about your productivity
5:54
methods need to adapt to align
5:56
with these changes? Remember, the
5:58
goal is not to resist change but to
6:00
flow with it, always realigning
6:02
your strategies with your
6:04
evolving priorities. Life
6:07
is a dynamic journey. Imagine you just
6:09
had a kid, right? Life changes.
6:12
The way you did stuff before having a
6:14
kid and the way you do things afterwards
6:16
have changed and evolved. It's not
6:18
better or worse, it's different. And
6:21
the more adaptable we can be
6:23
and stay and continue to be
6:25
adaptable, the more fun life
6:28
will be, the more effective you'll
6:30
be as well. And so
6:32
make sure that your productivity strategies are
6:35
evolving as well. So stay
6:37
adaptable, stay focused on your
6:39
vision and embrace the beauty
6:42
of change. And that is it
6:44
for today's Wisdom Wednesday. Thanks again

Productivity Show. Please subscribe to
