On January 7 2023, 29 year old Tyre Nichols was brutally beaten by four police officers in Memphis, Tennessee.
He died three days later from his injuries.
While we may see this as just another case of police brutality against a black man in America, there was a twist to this tale, one that immediately exposed the systemic racism that is experienced not only in the US, but here in Australia too.
Today we look at the sad aftermath of Tyre Nichols death and why it exposed systemic racism in institutions like the police force like no other death like it.
