In 1956 Malcom McLean, an American truck driver, loaded fifty-eight shipping containers aboard a refitted oil tanker from Newark to Houston and, in doing so, completely revolutionized world trade BUT - while the success his idea of containerizing cargo far exceeded anyone's imagination - it failed to achieve his dream of providing seamless door-to-door shipping. Part of the reason for that failure is because of the problems inherent in the design of the container itself. In this episode, Captain John Konrad highlights those problems.
