Grammy winning singer/songwriter Emmylou Harris traveled to Ethiopia in June as part of a Jesuit Refugee Service delegation to learn more about issues affecting refugees, particularly the need for education in refugee communities.
During a break while in the northern Ethiopian city of Shire, Ms. Harris talked with us about her impressions, how she came to partner with JRS, her upcoming concert tour to raise awareness and funds for refugees, and what the world can do to help mitigate the refugee crisis.
In addition to Ms Harris, Lampedusa: Concerts for Refugees will feature Steve Earle, Patty Griffin, Buddy Miller, and The Milk Carton Kids. The concerts will be intimate evenings of acoustic performances benefiting Jesuit Refugee Service's Global Education Initiative.
JRS is committed to raising $35 million for the initiative, enabling us to double the number of people served in our education projects to more than 240,00 by the year 2020.
