3:59

Has and. True icon on

4:01

the show today who breathe life into

4:03

roles like The Fallen and The Pale

4:06

Man from Pan's Labyrinth which is. One.

4:08

Of my personal fave, the Amphibian Man

4:10

in the Shape of water it's Billie

4:12

Butcher send from Hocus Pocus another personal

4:15

thing, another fave for sure and countless

4:17

other roles including the Baron and what

4:19

we do in the Shadows. If you

4:21

need an actor to holy light from

4:23

head to toes embody a character, Dog

4:25

is your guy. We have Doug Jones

4:27

on the show today. Doug thank you

4:29

so much for chatting with us. This

4:32

is like an. Honor will be Honor His

4:34

mind big you for having me and I

4:36

read some. That are so excited to have you

4:38

here and we knew told us he could call

4:40

you done these the will interject.now. Use of

4:42

meteorite. So before we get into the top

4:44

of it all we do have a couple question

4:47

for you at the top of the shell. Guess

4:49

so All Star and the Loneliness got a couple

4:51

see a perimeter to my first question for ios

4:53

is so many of your characters, including specifically. The

4:55

role of the gentleman which were going to talk so much

4:57

about to they. Rely completely on the

5:00

movements of the scene to convey the

5:02

character. How did you find this talent

5:04

of movement that you have? Why I.

5:06

Started as a marine way back

5:08

in the air and winners at

5:10

Ball State University of Indiana and

5:12

I was also the mass God

5:14

for this to the campus Or

5:16

Charlie Cardinal wearing a red do

5:18

a big absolute. So.

5:21

That those are two cars are two

5:23

different venues onstage as a mine or

5:25

on a basketball court as a barrage.

5:27

That required. Communication dialogue that

5:29

was not verbal spokesman er thought

5:31

it was dressed. Nobody had to

5:33

come into play. the facial expressions

5:35

and all that. Yeah right. Absolutely

5:37

married cool. You're so good at

5:39

it L bless you want or

5:41

something truly as I going back

5:43

and getting old and creaky but

5:45

thank you. It

5:47

doesn't show. Now you have not at all. And

5:50

it blows my mind that yet still does

5:52

to this day that you play both Have

5:54

Fallen Am The Pale Man and Pan's Labyrinth.

5:56

Like. I did know the dm of

5:59

Soetoro move. And yet many semi

6:01

sent me the script he said you know

6:03

the I you're going to play the font

6:05

and are so I I I heard that

6:07

an email but of course Enda Kenny said

6:09

M M I s over look at the

6:11

pale ma'am seen do I say I'm happy

6:13

I want to play as I dislike being

6:15

sea bass and one to get to searches

6:17

for the price of one would see dead

6:19

by the way. My

6:21

habitats but there is so that it

6:24

was with a specific reason. yeah, cause

6:26

that the song had created detail. man.

6:28

So. It was kind of an extension of him

6:31

even though they were very different. Love that are

6:33

very different. Drastically in the performance is

6:35

drastically different. Like how did you get

6:37

into to such different characters in the

6:39

same exact felt like with it did

6:42

make up and the performance at all

6:44

or was it something. Totally different. Everything

6:46

helps. Informant also yeah can you know you

6:48

regret your be doing a the skip seems

6:50

for that day and you're going okay that's

6:53

not what I played yesterday as as as

6:55

kind of our be enough and then when

6:57

you're in the makeup trailer and they're putting

6:59

on this looks any that does absolutely and

7:01

inform who you are that day because you're

7:04

to ourselves is ah I have eyes and

7:06

my husband and I have different bony legs

7:08

I can barely walk on and I just

7:10

woke up from a long long nap or

7:13

I sagged all the way. I lost all

7:15

my. Weight and now needy children that

7:17

a different violence and I'm here to

7:19

help them out. In South Pacific University

7:21

campus, it's very different. Like you kill

7:24

both of of the really dead. Truly,

7:26

you're very, you're very time. Thank you

7:28

and. Demo is like one of my

7:30

favorites so that movie just is like

7:32

on my top. It's Xl, Your Bulgaria

7:35

really does. Before he he's he's been

7:37

he's a genius and it and he i

7:39

have asshole time once he lied and will

7:41

you you know you're in in the presence

7:43

of like of the most creative mind in

7:45

show business but you're also with someone who

7:48

is goofy and funny and you hang out

7:50

with him in college and tell jokes. I

7:52

love us and that I could live on

7:54

Wednesday and. I love hearing that I'm

7:56

like oh yes, it's just not going

7:59

back to this episode specific. The your

8:01

performance in this episode is absolutely chilling.

8:03

I'm still having nightmares and I watched a few

8:05

weeks ago. How did the

8:07

other actors onset react to you and

8:09

your costume right? Arm well they

8:12

were a chilled. Loot

8:14

to the phone looking at awesome and I'm.

8:17

I'm gonna say it was. it

8:19

was a Ambers first episode I

8:21

think the as Yup, yup and

8:23

so she. Was. So shy and

8:25

introverted and she was like when. She.

8:28

Got the heebie jeebies. Return receive and

8:30

walk past the sunset. Oh, so that

8:32

was cut. It was adorable. Lot

8:35

of us are bad and

8:37

that Sarah Michelle was. I'm.

8:40

I. Was could so in treated with us.

8:42

And you know it yet. you have been the

8:44

start of the show. It's like you say, well

8:46

if you win her over yeah you've got you've

8:48

got there. The whole through success of yeah I

8:51

get somebody did indeed. Yeah she liked of us

8:53

might grab the spooky that we brought. That was

8:55

it. I can play a different flavor of spooky

8:57

than the so it had before. Definitely. That's

8:59

what I love about this episode is

9:01

it is so it like that the

9:03

this Big Bad is so different from.

9:05

All the other ones. It. Just blew it

9:07

right out of a lotta yeah. The episode

9:10

goes definitely more horror. Yeah in and

9:12

generally it's a great one but we were

9:14

tearing people's hearts out our and smiling about

9:16

it so I know that if it gets

9:19

more horror that imagining something I guess we'll

9:21

wait and see I know this of thirty

9:23

out there. With that will just get right

9:25

into the narrative of the episode and we

9:27

can sit and chat. About my favorite

9:30

episodes of mine so far. Yeah

9:32

it's so that also one will

9:34

note or I've I've about John

9:37

Sweden and getting us into the

9:39

episode during the audition process. There.

9:41

Were I think there? There were six Element

9:44

in total? Yeah. yeah. Weight and or of

9:46

them had and smiles were plastered on the

9:48

outside. The prosthetic make up. That. We

9:51

were all going to be

9:53

designed that way until I

9:55

just saw me and Camden

9:57

toy. Piano in the audition

9:59

process. And we don't have smiles

10:01

that made him a shiver. Real

10:03

muslims reliable he was. He went

10:06

to. Yeah. Some of this that's

10:08

why i your to lead gentleman myself

10:10

and can't and god rest his soul

10:12

ah the he he was he had

10:14

a smile that was there was just

10:16

chilling to the bone and so when

10:18

are smiling are it out and acting

10:21

out the scene for to dos and

10:23

in the an audition process he made

10:25

that not right there keep days to

10:27

and keepers miles so battery designer make

10:29

taxi be around are real mouths and

10:31

he put dad metal metallic look the

10:33

and dentures out we're wondering with and

10:35

into the. Yeah, see you'll notice

10:37

a slight difference between us and though

10:40

the our thoughts. So that we were wondering

10:42

that too because the other one's kinda have

10:44

this like stretched out smile brother. Plastered on

10:46

logjam. You know you. And Camden's

10:49

or dislike. This. I don't

10:51

even know how to describe it there. I think that the.

10:53

Most of his out there is definitely and you

10:55

can kind of move your feet as a little

10:57

bit more at odds. even more to the character.

10:59

Like opening your mouth a little bit.

11:01

Yeah, well. we're going to definitely talk

11:03

about those a lot more. But ah,

11:05

We start with Professor Waltzes class and

11:07

sees gabbing about communication. I love Professor

11:09

was I loved her at this point.

11:11

she's growing on me. She's great. a

11:13

little scary but is great as A

11:15

thinks he's intimidating says. But. She's

11:17

talking about how it transcends language communication

11:19

does. It's about the thoughts and experiences

11:21

that we don't you know, don't have

11:24

a word to describe them. And she's

11:26

yammering on that bus. He is distracted.

11:28

We. Should say by riley as we all

11:30

would the korea and hopes and whilst

11:32

cause bussey to the front of the

11:34

class to do a demonstration and she

11:37

asks her to lie down on the

11:39

desk which I immediately would be like.

11:41

Other know about that and Buffy is immediately

11:43

like out on up with a thesaurus assistance

11:45

but she does it. Feel something like

11:48

of death ritual. Bad idea think.

11:50

I. Feel like this is gonna be like written

11:52

about later? Let him a lot but I'm a

11:54

signing up for he had no but you know

11:57

Waltzes sure is her that she's perfectly safe and

11:59

then she goes around Leo there and he the

12:01

you know grumbles that it's a demonstration so fine

12:03

and she tells them be a good boy. Which.

12:06

I was like does that say. About

12:09

that. But he nervously approaches

12:11

Buffy and he's not a good boy actually

12:14

says he wraps his arm around the back

12:16

of her very intimately and he tells a

12:18

you know that I feel so streams and

12:20

he nods and leans in and says don't

12:22

worry if I tissue I'll make the sun

12:24

go down Which is like I don't know

12:26

if I'm impressed by that are I'm scared

12:28

by that. We are lovely. An eye on

12:31

subjected dream, it's a jury has no one

12:33

says that. The other

12:35

ethnicities. And she looks a little confused,

12:37

but she decides to roll with it because like

12:39

Riley, Rally. Look sexy with. The surplus

12:41

backslash heard all this. And he leans

12:44

in and they just start to aggressively make

12:46

out in front of the entire lecture. All

12:48

of it there was a me so phony

12:50

a moment to that was very loud and

12:52

else I can we stop this Police yeah

12:54

they do A fantasy island all that they

12:56

beep us that. But

12:58

they do stop. They listen to

13:00

be saying please stop and see

13:03

sit subs assessments he tells her

13:05

c. N. She looks at the

13:07

classroom and this dude kissed her so

13:09

good that he made the sunset and

13:11

he made everyone in the room disappear

13:13

after tallow. At. Get you a

13:15

man who can do both, I suppose,

13:18

but she tells him that fortune favors

13:20

the braves. We obviously know this is

13:22

a dream at this point, but she

13:25

gets cut off because you hear this

13:27

really creepy child humming singing. Thing.

13:29

Going on varied nightmare on Elm Street. like

13:32

zero to ten the stars. I don't like

13:34

it A bus. He doesn't look too thrilled

13:36

the there but asked if he hears it

13:38

and then she walks towards the sound and

13:41

we heard the child's voice saying. I

13:50

think this song and like will finish it

13:52

off but this song is of one of

13:54

the creepiest. I think it. It's.

13:56

Honestly creepier than the Freddie Krueger.

13:58

Songs. Oh this one's. The creepier, definitely. You

14:01

know there's something about a child's voice

14:03

isn't fair. The land? Something dark that

14:05

they did, they don't match. Now. That's

14:07

exactly yeah. It's a sinister yeah. It

14:10

gets me every time. And.

14:12

Bussey kind of goes into that lecture hall

14:14

and out into the hallway and we see

14:16

this little blonde girl like this. Adorable little

14:18

blonde kids holding a wooden box and sheath

14:21

continue singing some of the most chilling lyrics

14:23

I've ever heard. She says. Nothing.

14:27

On doing, they need to

14:29

take an early nineties. That

14:39

last line. Is. Like cool guy

14:41

screaming but you won't be heard immediately.

14:43

I was just like. Was.

14:48

Skip This is Asses. First time watching

14:51

the series through. She's never watch this

14:53

and I've watched it. I

14:55

watched it when it first aired cause I'm

14:57

ten years older than our so I watched

14:59

it when it first aired. It was like

15:01

my thing so I've seen as a million

15:03

times so watching her watch this for the

15:05

first time was really fun as I was

15:07

like oh you get to experience that specific

15:09

drawers and I think actually you seen bits

15:11

and pieces of this episode. I remember but

15:13

least the gentlemen as you are always telling

15:15

me what a great show this was and

15:17

you showed me bits and pieces of this

15:20

episode and specifically the gentleman. Yeah because of

15:22

that this was my favorite episode Nozick If

15:24

you're gonna watch anything. You need wants This

15:26

one episode. When I during the convention

15:28

circuit I hear this from fans over time that

15:30

bad that you know about Buffy fans will bear

15:33

of two big parties one a boom and once

15:35

more with feeling as the other weapon you to

15:37

go a yes or some other two favorites. I

15:39

do love it as an once more with Feeling

15:42

is definitely one of my top better. I.

15:44

Think school hard as my other top because it's

15:46

on. Spike joins and. He was my family

15:48

member. Gotta give a. Tone. Split

15:51

Riley join sir from behind and kind of

15:53

touches her shoulder and she turns back. In.

15:56

this is when we first

15:58

see this to sleep male-faced

16:00

man staring very intensely at Buffy

16:02

and just cheesing at her with

16:05

metal teeth What

16:07

appear to be like dark rotting gums?

16:09

It's you Doug. Yeah, it's you behind

16:11

her to

16:13

do that We

16:20

love it But

16:22

you know you wake her up She wakes up as

16:24

the class ends and Willow decides to kind of mess

16:26

with her and it's like wow It's

16:28

a good thing. I didn't sleep through the end of that class.

16:30

So like we covered everything we're gonna hear on the final She's

16:32

being that friend, but Buffy asked her

16:35

just to tell her that she didn't snore and

16:37

Willow says minimal

16:39

drool, so They

16:41

leave the lecture hall and Willow asks, you know, what

16:43

were you dreaming? What was going on? and she was

16:45

like, yeah, it was like really intense dream actually and

16:48

Riley joins this and at first he says intense

16:51

really cuz you seem so peaceful and then he

16:53

asks her where they're heading and all This fun

16:55

thing Willow tries to leave to kind of

16:57

be wing woman and let them have a moment And

17:00

Riley just asks if he was in

17:02

the dream, which I was like very

17:04

confident Just was I

17:06

in your dream. He was being he's trying to

17:08

be flirty, but it came off a little like

17:11

whoa I was like damn. All right, just assume

17:13

but you know Buffy tells him he wasn't her dream So

17:15

I guess it was a good shot that he shot. Yes,

17:18

and he asked if it was a romantic lead

17:20

And they have this little flirty thing because you

17:23

know, and she says something like I'm not saying

17:25

a word Which I was like because hush Get

17:28

it like I'm not saying a word But

17:31

at this point we're like just make out already.

17:33

Yeah, like at this point the tension between these

17:35

two you're like, alright, we get it You

17:37

guys got a kiss but outside Riley

17:40

asks what Buffy's up to that night

17:42

and she absent mindedly says patrolling and

17:44

he's like What was that

17:46

and she says petroleum and he's like

17:48

you have crude oil tonight Which

17:52

I love and then she's

17:54

like that and homework like obviously those things

17:56

go Together go together and. Csm

18:00

the same question and he's like i have

18:02

to grade papers and they're about to kiss

18:04

finally but she stops him the second before

18:07

it's about to happen. by being like wheat

18:09

and the class and or finals already passed

18:11

in what keepers a rating and was like

18:13

who cares. Buffy without It

18:15

loses. Know terrorists from

18:18

he's like other late papers and then they

18:20

have. Break away again and we don't get what

18:22

we're looking for. Now at Giles

18:24

as apartments. Charles's on the phone with

18:26

Buffy and he's like, oh, you know,

18:28

obviously she had a weird dream. He's

18:30

repeating those. Weird lyrics at the girl. In

18:32

the dream was saying and he tells her

18:35

that it sounds familiar in it could be

18:37

prophetic but the look into it and to

18:39

were later and he asked Spike who says

18:41

walking around his kitchen at this moment if

18:43

he's heard of the gentleman. In.

18:46

Spike steps into view in the kitchen. And

18:48

he like i don't give a shit

18:50

about the gentleman like where's my weetabix

18:52

witnesses. We found out is a British cereal.

18:55

Or I think I'm into as

18:57

a smart have you read a

18:59

big loser if it's or get

19:01

would little briggs of i'm of

19:03

feet of businesses that once you

19:05

alexander into much rather quickly. As

19:08

well as that, yes, But

19:10

there's no that's good to know. I always thought

19:13

he was saying we the bits in our lives.

19:15

I don't know what that is, but it sounds

19:17

like a serial. It's funny to know that it

19:19

turns into must really quickly because he likes to

19:22

give his are. Bloodily have share a

19:24

gaggle of already. Yet because Giles

19:26

says they're out of it and he's like you

19:28

ate it all again and he said this is

19:30

when he says I thought vampires on the A

19:33

blood in He says. Well,

19:35

sometimes ought to from local weetabix and

19:37

the blood to move, texture settling into.

19:41

Any kind of throws himself on the couch

19:43

and giles as like ah, you get it

19:45

your own self and. This is

19:48

a little bit of an inconsistency in the

19:50

vampire allure of as wean this an angel.

19:52

I think because an angel, we just had

19:54

an episode where he turns into a human.

19:56

For an episode. And. It was like

19:59

one of the crossover ones. And he goes

20:01

wild being like I can eat real food

20:03

now. Any like, give themselves a stomachache, you're

20:05

eating real food because he hasn't been able

20:07

to in like two hundred and whatever years

20:09

really goes for it. And then in the

20:11

last episode, we see Spike being offered a

20:13

cookie and eating it. And. Then there's

20:16

this and I'm like. Delete.

20:18

Suited to the not. So let's suppose that about

20:20

what if you go saw me on bus with

20:22

our own than what we do in the shadows.

20:25

Are one of my for in one

20:27

way episodes. I tried pizza. I won't

20:29

be as high just talking about that.

20:31

One bite and I and I went

20:33

into the sky was projectile vomit and

20:35

I'm back and forth him guy so

20:37

I get inconsistency here. I'll agree with

20:39

you the right. What

20:42

Is the law? Athletes enough of. I'm

20:45

gonna go with that. Part I think that would

20:47

make you sick I think steaks to

20:49

psycho an anomaly idea of how I

20:51

think so. limited. Side now in the courtyard

20:53

on your is pissed because Zander is being

20:55

a stupid and she feels like she's being

20:57

is because he's in there and he joked

21:00

said she really did become a real girl

21:02

Kisses worrying about this right now and she's

21:04

not impressed and tell them she doesn't he

21:06

doesn't care about her at all and he

21:08

tells or course he does and she says

21:11

well how much and he tells her that

21:13

they'll talk about it. Lingered for avoids the

21:15

conversations by walking straight into Giles his house

21:17

and I love it because he's like thanks

21:19

for knocking and they just want credence and.

21:22

On he wants to talk about it Now

21:24

she doesn't care that as an audience and

21:26

Sanders like, you know how I seal but

21:28

she quickly says I don't. A

21:31

relationship you don't need me. When. You

21:33

care about has lots of orgasms just

21:35

on your being on yes this is

21:37

and how to be humans like. private

21:39

conversations are a private when they're in

21:41

front of friends. In spite said. Oh

21:43

no, your friends. Go. On and

21:45

so health miles. Of like please

21:47

don't go on and tells them that you

21:50

know you something that Zander could actually takes

21:52

bike for a few days and everyone's like

21:54

absolutely not Everyone hates that idea and child

21:56

says he has a friend coming to town

21:58

and he wants to be alone. And

22:00

on your being on years like oh

22:02

you have an orgasm. Friends. Soon

22:06

as data is like this like the dad of

22:08

the group of your bike would he do with

22:10

the submitter. Made me think of a question

22:12

for you. Dug in, Between getting your makeup done

22:14

like being one of the gentleman and everything,

22:16

did you get to watch any of the

22:18

sets or any of this as it was

22:21

happening like while they were shooting. Guard

22:23

I need a amount of get to or

22:25

out because where I'm sure we would If

22:27

I ask my wife says I would have

22:29

been able to be like if you know

22:32

you when you're really going to that kind

22:34

of a process. With prosthetics in India your

22:36

own learn taking four hours on. You.

22:38

You can get set and ready and

22:40

into much energy spent. Not on camera

22:42

is energy be we will not have

22:44

when you get to camera So yeah

22:46

so we would sound like in trailers

22:49

kind of going I hope I went

22:51

down you know it's yeah but I

22:53

can't about as out there are delays

22:55

for people in real life I promise.

22:57

A lot. About an hour ago

22:59

I know that's one thing I

23:01

can imagine is like I get

23:03

very claustrophobic. So. I can imagine

23:05

you're like tunneling trapped in your settles

23:07

for like hours. You. Must have to go.

23:09

In and perhaps a trusted it's gonna come on Yeah

23:12

yeah and that that there's people there for bags and

23:14

they are they they stay with y'all Be a. Like

23:16

you can get me out of this thread us

23:18

or nine me that you can break me out.

23:20

Now I went on. Your says that Giles has

23:22

an orgasm friend something he says yes. That's exactly

23:25

the most appalling than you could have said. I.

23:28

Love to us and and of

23:30

essences. Know we move right to

23:32

a scene of a with a meeting

23:34

happening and everyone's being super performative, saying

23:36

some type of with a prayer and

23:39

when they finish they immediately pivot into

23:41

talking about like bake sales in Edo,

23:43

griping about wax melted Oliver women power

23:45

shrine like it's very performative and Willows

23:48

like I hate this, like I'm a

23:50

real which isn't done of us. and

23:53

she's like when are we in a

23:55

cast spells like conjuring transmutation that crazy

23:58

idea and across from her we our

24:00

blonde earthy crunchy woman who is doing her

24:02

best like Bonnie from the craft with the

24:04

hair in her face. We're talking about Amber

24:07

Benson, Tara, first episode. She does an amazing

24:09

job in this episode and

24:12

she's all hunched over and very closed off

24:14

and she's she looks very nervous but she's

24:16

intrigued by Willow. You can clearly see that

24:18

she's like oh like and immediately you're like

24:20

what's happening here. But

24:23

of course one of these other ladies has

24:25

to be kind of rude to Tara and

24:27

says oh yeah then we could all get

24:29

on our broomsticks and fly around on our

24:31

broomsticks. Which I'm like are you AI?

24:33

I was like what are you doing? That

24:36

was a repetitive insult. Yeah not a good

24:38

one. That is something AI would

24:40

write. That's still

24:43

right. I was like

24:45

you can take out one of those broomsticks. You don't need

24:47

to be there. We can get our broomsticks

24:49

and fly around on our broomsticks.

24:52

That wasn't even funny. That

24:54

didn't insult me but they all giggle

24:56

because they're being mean and she says

24:59

that one person's energy can suck the

25:01

power from an entire circle and

25:03

she's you know but no offense. And

25:05

you know no offense to anyone. Which

25:08

is immediately offensive. But Tara

25:10

starts to come to Willow's defense and

25:12

expresses an actual interest in actual magic

25:14

but she's quickly swatted down by them

25:17

all by the AI girl and

25:19

is intimidated back into silence who tells everyone

25:21

to be quiet so Tara can speak and

25:24

I was like everyone's nothing mean. Let's

25:33

27:19

this is not a wrestling forecast

27:22

snow but it is inspired by

27:24

wrestling is everything as far by

27:26

wrestling beetle. A. Low.

27:35

Number of the dorm room

27:37

button chatting about how disappointing

27:40

replica meeting was and Willow

27:42

says oh tough Love Lasagna

27:44

Love love Moon since July

27:47

first. Power since this

27:49

is. A

27:51

professor riding on my sister. So it's

27:53

it's. couldn't read a book? Is

27:55

is a good fit for the nazis wilde

27:57

that this episode with has only like what

28:00

if at twelve minutes of actual dialogue really

28:02

that it was assumed very short amount of

28:04

time in the grand scheme of things that

28:06

it was still able to be everyone's favorite

28:09

episode with out. Copious. Amounts

28:11

of witty banter in it just because of the. Performances

28:13

made a yes and whoop over market was

28:15

my understanding that when I did this was

28:17

an episode just we know Cosby show Runner

28:20

and was not always are writing or directing

28:22

or onset that would move every episode This

28:24

when he was he wrote and directed so

28:26

when he submitted this to the network of

28:28

course the Lego and we can do with

28:31

dialogue or the were going about we'll lose

28:33

our our viewers. I like that wouldn't

28:35

be enough stimulation to keep them on the channel is what

28:37

they were worried about. And would do you

28:39

think the absolute opposite happens? The are you

28:41

okay? I will. They be one of those

28:43

sensors and everybody leans in telling know miss

28:45

one beat of the stuff of. Our to

28:47

definitely and that's exactly it. You take away

28:50

one of the senses and I remember watching

28:52

that's just waiting and watching every detail been

28:54

like I know I have to pay attention.

28:56

outdated on a that zagat reality type things

28:58

I would normally mess. well I'm listening to

29:00

dialogue I was like tuned in on for

29:02

this yeah yeah I gonna tell you to

29:04

answer that the whole time we are watching

29:06

this even looked down for a second I

29:08

was like you tell us. Everything. Like

29:11

this has ever seen as

29:13

specific literally. Like sneeze or likes breathe.

29:16

And I was like no. I

29:18

don't play and as. We joke, settling as

29:20

my watcher microsoft. Yes, Votes

29:23

to Yes! A Willow is bummed about this

29:26

whole like a group and she was something

29:28

they're going to actually do real magic but

29:30

it appears that she is not surrounded by

29:32

real watches. but she really wants to graduate

29:34

from like the floating pencil magic and she

29:36

says one of my favorite lines and this

29:38

I. Think. This leads explicitly the first starts

29:40

He said this is one of my that

29:42

played such as one of less. Go

29:47

with a has has to last place

29:50

has insisted that are signs attila. So.

29:53

Go ahead and had to in a spicer. As

29:55

a lot less. It be

29:58

easier but willow shit. The

30:00

conversation to asking about Buffy and Riley a

30:02

much more fun subject and bus he says

30:04

that. Much like the Wicked Group unfortunately Riley

30:06

is talk all talk and it's like sad

30:09

trombone mother. But we will have to tell

30:11

Sarah you know to get with it she's

30:13

like I need my vicarious new cheese and

30:15

needs to live through you Embassy Fred seen

30:18

as saying she gets nervous and they both

30:20

are babbling with them like that means you

30:22

really like each other. That's cute when he

30:24

should be happy about that exactly. But.

30:27

The thing that really stinks is she feels like

30:29

she constantly has to lie. The. Slayer thing

30:31

always comes up and she wishes she could

30:33

just come clean. and little does she know

30:35

rarely has his own secret and we got

30:38

this really good transition. They do a really

30:40

especially the season. They do a great job

30:42

of these like smooth transitions through scenes because

30:45

at the initiative we see Forest telling Riley

30:47

that know he can't come clean so he's

30:49

having the same conversation. Rally thinks it sucks

30:51

and ascend fourth degree things. We have

30:53

the dukes of an unnecessary cause any go

30:56

missing missing we a coupon code. And

30:59

of course you know we didn't

31:01

even say no to use on

31:04

her face. says. They

31:09

got is aligned. You never hear me say. Somebody

31:12

disagree with what you

31:14

prefer. The surface of

31:16

the world was displayed.

31:18

They get into the elevator and they say their

31:20

names and to the vocal verification device. They do

31:23

a good job of making that a very. Pivotal.

31:25

Part of their experiences that vocal verification device

31:28

they've built military the episodes. Yup. And then

31:30

they give us another reminder of it here

31:32

so that you're like oh right, they need

31:34

that years in an inflated without your voice.

31:37

That now and I can't be later or

31:39

not is certainly is. My favorite thing is

31:41

where we get to that seem that Riley

31:43

just breathes into it. Really hard to what.

31:46

The coolest. Misleading that

31:48

that's gonna work and other what is

31:50

going to pick up your nose. Your

31:53

breath is as like how he died

31:55

with onions. Yes ma'am. I.

31:58

thought grunts does not like

32:00

Finn, Riley. It's like, we

32:02

got you. Now, at

32:04

Xander's basement, laundry, tool shed,

32:07

bedroom apartment, Xander has

32:09

tied Spike to a leather chair. Spike

32:11

is not happy. And Xander tells

32:13

him that it's just while he sleeps. And

32:16

Spike is like, oh, please. And

32:18

he's like, I would never bite your raggedy ass.

32:21

Don't worry about it. But Xander informs

32:23

Spike that he is very biteable, actually,

32:25

moist and delicious. And so

32:28

Spike disassociates in the chair saying, all

32:30

right, yeah, fine. You're a

32:32

nummy treat. So he turns off

32:34

the light and Spike just waits for the

32:36

silence to hit and then starts in a

32:38

very high pitched Anya invitation saying, Xander,

32:41

don't you care about me? Xander

32:43

tells him to shut up. But

32:46

he knows he's found an exposed nerve. So he just

32:48

continues in the Anya voice. And it's hilarious. I

32:50

love Spike. Now, at

32:52

Giles's apartment, he's gotten Spike out of the way.

32:55

So now research is still underway. And he's worried

32:57

about seven what from that song. And he's like,

32:59

what could this mean? But he gets interrupted by

33:01

a knock at the door. Hey, oh, it's Olivia.

33:05

She was in another episode, I think, from the

33:07

beginning of the season. Yep. She

33:09

kind of asks about her flight. And she tells

33:11

him it was torture. Talks about a baseball movie.

33:14

You know, thoughts and prayers, Olivia. And then she

33:16

says, yeah, that's enough small talk, don't you think?

33:18

And it's just like, he takes off his glasses

33:20

and see you later. So it's like, Olivia, just

33:23

getting right to it. And looking back, that's such

33:25

a pointed quote. That's enough small

33:27

talk. Yep. They hit those a

33:29

lot. They're not going to be able to talk soon. A lot

33:31

of those little breadcrumbs along the way. Little nods. Now

33:35

is when we get the real stuff. We

33:37

get the exterior of a clock tower building.

33:40

This is when we get our real

33:42

first exciting look at the gentleman. As a whole. Like

33:45

we got that little bit of it, but now we're

33:47

here. And they

33:49

look wild. Absolutely wild.

33:51

I love that they're in suits. Like

33:54

the gentleman aspect of it is my

33:56

favorite thing. Because

34:00

it's easy to be scary when you're just

34:02

like wild and out scary and

34:04

like, you know, disheveled and crazy. But

34:07

it's like something about like this monster

34:10

in a suit that moves

34:12

the way you moved with your hands

34:14

and it's like very like calm and

34:16

collected. It's like that is so much

34:18

scarier. Because you're almost whimsical in a

34:20

way, but in a horrifying way. Yeah.

34:23

Thank you for all the above. I

34:26

felt this exactly the same way. In

34:29

my 37 year career, I played an awful lot of

34:31

dark characters. And

34:33

twice I have been heebie-jeebie by

34:36

myself while watching our work. This

34:39

was one of them. Really? And the

34:41

other one was the Pale Man that we touched on earlier from Panz why.

35:00

And so it did the mix of

35:02

feelings for the viewer must be like

35:04

really, really anxious. Yes. And

35:06

it was like that is my favorite kind

35:08

of thing is that kind of dichotomy is

35:10

so much harder to achieve, I think, too.

35:13

And it was like, brilliant here. And

35:15

I have to know, were your movements

35:18

at all choreographed? Or did you just,

35:20

did they just let you go? Because they were like, you know what you're

35:22

doing. Well, again, my

35:25

co-star, Camden Toy, and I both

35:27

came to this episode. With

35:30

a background in mind and and lots

35:33

of physical acting. Yeah. So

35:36

we both have hands that like to float

35:38

anyway, as we talk, our hands are always

35:40

going around the face and expressing and doing

35:43

things. So again, Joss Whedon

35:45

loved that and encouraged us to

35:47

use them as much as possible.

35:50

And to do it floaty and

35:52

kind and gentle, like like a

35:54

mother's touch. Right. But

35:56

we're after something totally not maternal. So.

36:00

So, yeah, so the hands being

36:02

like, you know, gesturing and being

36:04

poised while we're not using them

36:06

or floaty or pointy

36:08

as we're turning corners, that

36:11

was all just encouraged. And Candin and I both

36:13

have a background where we knew exactly that

36:16

was a part of us already anyway. And

36:18

that's what it came off like. It came off

36:20

very natural, like it wasn't a choreographed thing. Like

36:22

it felt like it just, how you moved and

36:24

that's the way it is. Like

36:26

very ballet hands. They're very soft. I

36:30

know my favorite part of the episode is when

36:32

everybody claps for you and you do like, stop it. I

36:37

love that moment. Yeah, it's so good. It's

36:40

so good. But inside the

36:42

tower, this is when we see a

36:44

suited man gracefully set down a wooden

36:46

box on a table. The suit is

36:48

immaculate, not a speck of dust on

36:50

it. The hands look very skeletal and

36:52

he opens the box with that flourish.

36:54

And I believe this is you, I

36:56

believe. And we hear

36:59

this and that with me. We

37:01

hear ghostly whispers as we get

37:03

shots of houses in Sunnydale and we

37:05

watch as residents of Sunnydale breathe out

37:08

with the smoky air and it trails

37:10

out their windows and we see it at Giles's

37:12

house. Both Giles and Olivia are in bed and

37:15

that happens to them. Willow and Buffy, the same

37:17

thing. They kind of breathe out a breath and

37:19

it comes out. And outside of

37:22

the clock tower, we see that all the

37:24

wisps kind of convening and swirling around the

37:26

building, flowing into the wooden box on the

37:28

table. And it's like an altar kind of

37:30

set up. And your

37:32

hand gracefully closes the box and

37:35

the shot drifts towards your face. And

37:37

it is you from Buffy's dream who

37:39

we got a quick little shot of

37:41

before. You

37:43

look sinister. Truly.

37:47

I mean, it's wild. And we immediately go to

37:49

a commercial during the original airing of this. It

37:51

was like your face and then commercial. And it

37:53

was like, what did I just see? I screamed

37:55

a little bit when we watched it the first

37:58

time I screamed and like pulled myself. It

38:02

was that Y Z or what is

38:04

I notice that you haven't we have

38:06

we have to give some kudos to

38:08

I have decided to leave. The creature

38:11

backs up was called optic Nerve That

38:13

said that created and sculpted and and

38:15

applied these make ups and that it

38:17

was so beautifully done it looks like

38:19

real skin and that someone could actually

38:21

be that that. Wrinkly.

38:23

And Bolland as and consistency in

38:25

the dark around the eyes and

38:28

dance. And. It's that mental t the

38:30

arab. I. Don't have a

38:32

look, the doesn't go with all that genteel

38:34

the he'll say and. Yeah. And

38:36

and again that I remember specifically and that

38:38

was a choreographed camera shot getting from the

38:41

box up to the face and behind. The

38:43

timing had to be just right so that

38:45

that would be sitting there. I don't base

38:47

a moment the by the time the camera

38:49

got to meet together those little moments of

38:51

you eat do you have to him to

38:53

rehearse in the and and get the right

38:56

beats in it. And I do remember having

38:58

set to see embryos. we have a wooden

39:00

box it's going to collect everyone's voices. Sunningdale,

39:02

You have to do some reference. I guess

39:04

it's like this. like I had. Dispersed and

39:06

allows us to do the rest of our

39:08

work to do so close. He was like

39:10

a big moment like on.the really good I'm

39:12

so I want my hand to express as

39:14

bad as so. It took a couple of

39:16

the rehearsal to at runs for me to

39:18

get the right right flair with the handle

39:20

on closing that box of that that sets

39:22

up the rest of the episode. I like

39:24

that, Does it sir. You don't just slam shut

39:27

like it's right on time. I suspect that and

39:29

I like a really does it. It puts that

39:31

out there for sure. And the make up in

39:33

the face all the way down to the hands

39:35

the as as so insecure like they look like

39:37

little. like everybody loan yeah i loved it

39:40

out there was there was a a what

39:42

what the com appliance there was a prosthetic

39:44

have planted some on the back of our

39:46

hands are really and with as the blended

39:48

and so but in the palm was are

39:50

are real palm and we had a real

39:53

fingertips that the they had these these appliances

39:55

that went all over the the back of

39:57

a hand with down the fingers that added

39:59

x extra bone, extra tendon. I love that. Wow.

40:03

Just to make it a little bit more skeletal. Yeah. That's

40:05

really cool. And none of it is overdone.

40:07

That's the best part about the gentlemen is

40:09

the makeup is so, it's like wild

40:12

to look at and scary, but it's not

40:14

like they don't do too much. It's like

40:16

a subtle scare. It has a subtle feeling. It's

40:18

still human. So that's again off-putting, isn't it? It's

40:21

like uncanny valley-ish. Ooh. Yeah.

40:24

It's something about it. But

40:27

we get this. So we immediately, when we

40:29

first watched this originally, we went to commercial.

40:31

And when we came back to commercial, it

40:33

was just the next morning. I kept just

40:35

like, what did we just see? And

40:37

you're like, wha? And

40:40

we're like, okay, what happened there? And we

40:42

see Buffy try to tell Willow good morning,

40:44

but her voice is gone. And

40:47

Willow finds that she can't talk either. They're

40:49

freaking out wondering if they've gone deaf. But

40:51

no, they can hear other sounds. They just have no

40:53

voices. So Buffy rushes out the door, looks

40:56

into the hallway of the dorm. Everyone's

40:58

coming out of their doors, being like, what is going

41:00

on? At Xander's, things are no

41:02

better. Xander blames Spike immediately. Spike

41:04

is annoyed because he's like, I can't talk

41:06

either. And he gives them the backwards

41:09

peace sign thing, which we found out is the

41:11

British way of flipping someone off. We did not

41:13

know that, which makes sense for how he does it.

41:15

It looks like, oh, they were giving me peace. They're not

41:17

giving me peace. They're giving me a few. It was that

41:19

face he made that he was like, well, I

41:21

don't think you're doing peace. Yeah.

41:24

Now Xander frantically picks up and

41:26

dials Buffy's dorm number, which immediately

41:29

you're like, what are you doing?

41:31

And she goes to answer it. But they're both

41:33

like, we can't talk. Xander realizes he

41:35

dumb and he hangs up the phone and Spike

41:38

is just judging him from the chair. Like, are

41:40

you kidding me? Now at

41:42

Riley's initiative slash frat house,

41:45

Riley and Forrest make their way to

41:47

the elevator. And Forrest is writing on

41:49

a note saying that it's all over

41:51

town, all the voicelessness. And the elevator

41:53

abruptly stops saying the vocal code wasn't

41:55

accepted and it tells them to state

41:57

their name, but they can't state their

41:59

name. and the electronic voice

42:01

tells them. Local code is accepted.

42:03

Unauthorized beam will be considered possible.

42:06

Please commence vocal identification in the next

42:08

20 seconds to avoid countermeasures. And we

42:11

get to find out what the countermeasures

42:13

are because Riley rips off a panel

42:15

and tries to override it, like we

42:18

said, by just breathing really harshly into

42:20

it. Onions. Strangely,

42:22

it doesn't work. Like

42:24

weird. That's so crazy. Yeah, it's so wild.

42:26

But in a hole opens in the wall

42:28

and hissing yellow gas starts filling up the

42:30

elevator. And we wonder if

42:32

it's a series wrap on who we have been

42:34

referring to as the edging crew until

42:37

the doors open and Riley and

42:39

Forrest rush out kind of coughing and Walsh just

42:41

stares at them shaking their head and then points

42:43

to a sign that says, in case of emergency,

42:45

use stairs. I love that.

42:47

Stairs. And that's

42:50

the way that they still get the comedy

42:52

in without talking at all. Just those little

42:54

subtle movements and like silly things that get

42:56

put in. Yep. We get a lot

42:58

of that in the lecture hall and a couple of scenes

43:00

when there, when Giles is explaining. It

43:03

really is crazy how well they did.

43:05

Really without dialogue. Everyone. So

43:08

in a school building, we see Tara again,

43:10

looking around just kind of in dull

43:12

shock and she's looking for someone, but we don't know

43:14

who, we do know who it's Willow. And

43:17

I called it. You did. You called it right

43:19

away. I knew what was happening. I didn't want to give you anything.

43:21

I was like, I don't know what you're talking about. Every time I

43:23

would be like, she's looking for Willow, you would just look at me

43:25

and then look back at the episode. So

43:28

in a school building, we see Tara again,

43:30

looking around just kind of in dull

43:32

shock and she's looking for someone, but we don't know

43:34

who, we do know who it's Willow. And

43:37

I called it. You did. You called it

43:39

right away. I knew what was happening. I didn't want to

43:41

give you anything. I was like, I don't know what you're

43:43

talking about. Every time I would be like, she's looking for

43:45

Willow, you would just look at me and then look back

43:47

at the episode. I was like, I don't know. I'm not

43:50

telling you anything. Now on Main Street in Sunnydale, it's kind

43:52

of like early COVID a little bit. Very

43:54

reminiscing. Everyone's just wandering

43:56

around, not knowing what to do. And

43:59

people are selling white. boards to talk out

44:01

like people taking advantage of the situation. Christ,

44:03

I like white boards. And

44:05

they want. Like rebelling toilet paper. Exactly. Exactly.

44:09

And hand sanitizer. Yeah. It's

44:11

like, it's always going to happen. We're humans. So

44:13

they walk to Giles's apartment and they have white

44:16

boards. They have bought some. Smart. And the whole

44:18

gang is there and, you know, looking panic. Anya

44:20

kind of looks bored because she's like, I'm a

44:22

demon. I don't have been through this stuff. She

44:25

seems plenty. Buffy picks up Giles's notebook and points

44:27

at the part of the rhyme that he wrote

44:29

down that says can't even shout. Can't even cry.

44:31

And Giles was like, Oh yeah, he's like, I

44:33

know you're onto something. Yeah, this all works. Xander

44:36

notices a breaking news report on TV

44:39

and it says that the whole town

44:41

of Sunnydale is under quarantine. They think

44:43

due to widespread laryngitis. Oh, Sunnydale. Like,

44:45

all right. And

44:48

they say local government blames recent

44:50

flu vaccinations. And again, we're like

44:52

right back to it. And the CDC

44:54

is telling everyone to just stay home. And we were

44:56

all like, wow, this is really triggering. But

44:59

we're watching it out like, oh, I never

45:02

thought about watching it now is

45:04

like, oh, this is how they're

45:06

telling isn't it? Yes.

45:08

Because watching it initially, I'm like, wow, that would

45:10

be wild. I can't imagine. It's like,

45:12

Corinne, what's that? Yeah.

45:15

So they way ahead of the curve. And

45:18

Buffy tells Giles to research with her whiteboard

45:20

and she says she's going to be in

45:22

town tonight. And he mails, why? We

45:25

get a hard cut to the initiative. They're having, you

45:27

know, a meeting of the minds. And

45:29

Walsh thinks that something is going to happen in

45:31

town tonight. So she tells Riley and the whole

45:34

crew to dress up as civilians, try

45:36

to keep order and figure out what's going on. She's worried about

45:38

the military. They'll care if they want to go dressed up. The

45:47

45:50

cars, trains. Hiding maybe next to

45:52

you. Put on those noise canceling

45:54

headphones. Mom and dad arguing about directions in

45:56

the car. Air pods in. No

45:58

46:57

of water spraying like twenty feet in

46:59

the air. There's a barrel with it's

47:01

contents on fire which is always a

47:03

sign of the apocalypse. I feel it's

47:05

a real, there's always a barrel on

47:08

fire. it's since. And have you ever

47:10

seen that in real life? notice the

47:12

apocalypse has never happened. Serve we will

47:14

that if we see one Such when

47:16

47:33

happening? With another apartment, wherever. There

47:35

is a bloody let us know what is

47:37

older but Buffy looks around and cease to

47:40

do so. are all like come out me

47:42

brawling at each other because of course people

47:44

going to start fighting and Riley tries to

47:46

break them up. The isn't that he turns

47:48

to the other guy straightening his jacket kind

47:50

of calm him down while pushing the other

47:52

guy way and the aggressor picks up a

47:55

pipe behind his back and goes to hit

47:57

Riley but Buffy just breaks his arm and

47:59

like slams. in the face with the pipe so

48:01

casually and then just continues to walk and

48:04

he just falls down. And I feel like

48:06

they're really building up the fact that they're

48:08

getting close to seeing this side of each

48:10

other. They're narrowly missing getting each other. And

48:13

Riley and Buffy see each other and

48:15

they hug and he finally kisses her

48:17

because why not? A chair in the

48:19

background. Yeah, and it's all violins. We

48:21

finally get the Buffy and Riley theme

48:23

song that we've been waiting for, which

48:26

is like violins and melancholy music. It's

48:28

beautiful. We rewatch her approved. Oh yeah.

48:30

But the door creaks open at the

48:32

clock tower now and we see two

48:34

gentlemen float out of the building and

48:36

one is you. And you're

48:40

followed by two like

48:43

glumping things with straight

48:45

jackets around them and formal pants

48:47

and shoes on. They're like wacky

48:49

inflatable arm men. Yeah. At the

48:52

car dealerships. Yeah. Right. And

48:54

now of course I'm forgetting that they were called in

48:57

the script, but they were our little ground fellas. Yeah.

48:59

Cause we were trying to figure that out too. We were like, what are they

49:01

called? I, yeah, it was, it was only in

49:03

the script. It was never mentioned. So, but they

49:06

were, they did our dirty work for us because

49:08

we were floating above the ground. So we couldn't,

49:10

it's only so much we could do. It was

49:12

kind of like the, you know,

49:14

the queen coming down in a parade and there's, there's minions

49:16

that do her work or, you know, that drive the horses

49:21

or whatever. So that's, those were our guys. And

49:25

the floating thing was, was it was handled differently

49:28

depending on where the camera was catching us. We

49:30

were going to ask you about that. Right. So

49:32

you see our feet, nothing but our feet go

49:34

by. Yeah. Well, we're suspended on wires

49:37

and we're being, you know, just drawn

49:40

through that camera frame and that's it. But rather

49:43

simple. But, but then when you see us

49:45

floating from the knees up and you

49:47

don't see our feet, we might've

49:49

been on a platform with

49:51

wheels on it. And some poor fella was

49:54

on the ground pushing us, pulling us.

49:57

And that was, that was touched and go with. with

50:00

how smooth it was. You

50:04

had to balance issue, you start, whoa, and

50:06

you stop, whoa. Falling

50:09

off that platform was a done

50:11

thing. We did a few times. And

50:14

then otherwise, then when you saw a full

50:16

body floating like down sidewalks or down the

50:19

town square in front of the clock tower, that

50:21

big scene with all six of us coming down the street

50:24

toward you, that was

50:26

quite an elaborate wire rig

50:29

above head. And

50:31

we were all suspended from these little

50:34

hip harnesses with wires going

50:36

up past our shoulders that they brushed out

50:38

in post-production. Wow. And

50:41

yeah, so it was quite elaborate to get it

50:43

to float. But as you might guess, because

50:45

we don't really do that in real life, do we?

50:47

No, I don't believe

50:49

you. I wish I could say it was all

50:51

real. Yeah. Yeah. Like

50:54

I learned how to float. How uncomfortable

50:56

was that process, especially with the hip oysters and

50:58

everything? And how long did you have to? Oh, super. Yeah,

51:01

no, yeah, super, super. Because when you're as skinny

51:03

as I am too, and Camden Toy

51:05

also was a wisp of a thing, we

51:08

had bony hips. Right. So

51:10

when you put yourself in a hip harness and

51:13

all of the pressure points are hitting you

51:15

with no human padding underneath it, it's like,

51:17

oh my gosh. Oh, yeah. At the end

51:20

of the day, you can have some sores

51:22

on you that are really tender. Yeah, definitely.

51:24

Yeah, absolutely. Speaking

51:26

of Camden Toy, again, we just, again, want

51:28

to express our condolences because he passed in

51:31

December, I believe, December 11th. And

51:33

it's a wildly big loss

51:35

for the Buffy community, but I know it's

51:37

a loss for you personally as well. And

51:40

he really, along with you, made this

51:42

episode so amazing to watch. Yeah,

51:45

no, thank you for that. Yeah, he did. I

51:48

have said many times in my life that among

51:50

my favorite actors I've ever worked with and the

51:52

most talented actors I've ever worked with is

51:55

Camden Toy. Oh, I love that. He

51:58

had such a gift for channeling. whatever

52:00

you ask him to do. Oh sure,

52:02

easy, click and it comes out

52:04

of him with such reality and

52:07

such, you know, honesty. So

52:09

when he, and he went on, Jon

52:12

Sweetin also fell madly in love with him

52:14

and had him come back to the show

52:16

again and again as a number

52:18

of different characters. And he crossed over to Angel

52:21

as well. And I

52:23

think, you know, when he played

52:25

Narl, I was just like dumbfounded

52:27

with how real and grotesque and

52:29

he be, that was. He

52:32

really channeled something brilliant all the time.

52:35

And so we met on

52:37

this episode, on the Hush episode, and again,

52:39

we were filming in the fall of 1999. And

52:42

so for 24 years we were,

52:44

you know, dear friends and I

52:46

saw a lot of them. And

52:48

we also had the same convention

52:51

appearance manager. So while doing

52:53

the convention circuit, we would travel together

52:55

and have tables next to

52:57

each other and greet our fans and do

52:59

photo ops together. You

53:02

Buffy fans have been so incredibly loyal to

53:04

the show and to the actors that are

53:07

in it. We felt that

53:09

love so, so much. And

53:12

so the last convention that he

53:14

did was just in September of

53:16

this year. He

53:18

and I were in Birmingham, Alabama for a convention

53:21

and he didn't go public with

53:24

his prognosis. And I

53:26

totally respected that. And he

53:28

just wanted to be with his fans one more

53:30

time if he could get this one convention out.

53:32

And he went through it with some pain and

53:35

some grogginess from painkillers. And it was tough

53:37

to get through the convention, but the fans

53:39

never knew it. And that's who Camden was. He

53:41

didn't want to put any of his

53:44

stress on anybody else. He

53:46

just wanted to love on you and hug you.

53:49

And, uh, he sounds like an amazing man. I know. I

53:51

just like got in. I'm sorry. No, you do not need

53:53

to be sorry at all. No, no,

53:55

he's, it sounds like he was like just

53:57

this amazing person. And for him to. want

54:00

to do that for his fans when

54:02

last night. That's really amazing and was not required.

54:05

So it's like that is just, that's really cool

54:07

to hear. It really is. And Alina and our

54:09

producer Mikey were telling me that he's gonna reappear

54:11

so much more in Buffy and just because of

54:14

watching this episode, I'm so excited for the next

54:16

couple of times that we get to see him.

54:18

I'm really looking forward to it. Yeah, you will

54:20

be dumbfounded by his performances, yes. I can't wait.

54:22

And how different they are. When you said

54:25

he could embody anything and just snap

54:27

it on, you watch him as a

54:29

gentleman and you see him as Narl and you're

54:31

like, what? Is this the same

54:33

person? Miles apart, yeah. Yeah, it's

54:35

really, really amazing. And again,

54:38

you and him really make

54:40

this such

54:42

an amazing episode to watch together. Like the

54:44

two of you together is so cool to

54:46

watch. You play off each other beautifully. Knowing

54:48

you just met each other like during this

54:51

is wild to hear. Cause I would have

54:53

thought you were friends forever. That's just for

54:55

honestly, just with your chemistry. It's

54:58

rare in this world to find somebody who you

55:00

click on that fast, but we sure did. Absolutely.

55:03

But moving right through this scene, we

55:06

see those little wacky inflatable arm things.

55:09

They're like the goonies. And

55:12

they swarm around the six gentlemen who are

55:14

floating in three pairs of two and they

55:16

branch off in different directions. And

55:19

this is literally wisteria lane, apparently from

55:21

Desperate Housewives. I thought that. I was

55:23

watching it and I was so excited

55:25

to see it. That's

55:28

on the Universal Studios backlot. That's

55:30

cool. You've seen that in person, Alina, right? Yeah, I

55:32

have. So I was like, oh, look at that. But

55:35

at Giles's house, Olivia can't sleep. And she

55:37

goes downstairs and hears a sound outside. And

55:39

when she looks out the window, she sees

55:42

one of the gentlemen floating in the distance.

55:45

But then we get a jump scare

55:47

because I don't remember if it's you

55:49

or Camden floats right by the window.

55:52

That one is Camden toy. I'll tell you

55:54

what, the images from that show, we got

55:56

tagged in each other's photos for the

55:59

24 years. I believe it.

56:01

That one you have like

56:03

that was actually, that was Camden. That was

56:05

Camden. That's good to know. Yeah. And he

56:07

gives that like full eye contact. I

56:09

jumped in my seat. Like

56:12

literally she yelled. It was

56:15

so good. And another pair floats

56:18

towards the house on Wisteria

56:20

Lane. And we see gentlemen,

56:22

Doug and fellow gentlemen, Camden

56:24

move through campus

56:26

and proceed into a dorm. And you're

56:28

just smiling and you're floating

56:30

down the hallway looking at each door. And

56:33

I love, love this scene because

56:35

you're just wagging your finger at the

56:38

doors. Like when he goes to do

56:40

one, you're like, no, no, so much

56:42

hand acting. Yeah. And there's one. As

56:45

we floated down that hallway in the dorm, well,

56:48

first of all, we were on an actual

56:50

campus. So the outdoor scene approaching the building,

56:53

it filmed at night, of course. And so

56:55

you, but you have the odd student walking by going, what

56:58

the heck? Imagine having

57:01

that story later. Like I saw

57:03

that. Yeah. The dorm hall then was,

57:07

I believe was on, on the soundstage. It

57:09

was built in the interior set and

57:12

they had the hallway ceiling rigged

57:14

with those, with those pulleys for

57:16

our harnesses again, because they had

57:18

the exploding down all the way down the hallway. And

57:21

the, the dialogue that we were,

57:23

that we were speaking without words

57:26

was, what do you think about this room?

57:29

No, that's not the right one. Would

57:31

it be in here? Is our, is our next target in here?

57:34

No, not yet. And then when

57:36

finally, finally I spin around

57:38

and point to this one door,

57:40

like this is our, is hard

57:42

target presenting it, but in, but

57:44

in very, uh, game show prize,

57:47

sort of smile. Yeah,

57:49

exactly. So again, the

57:51

dichotomy of, of, you know,

57:54

what's behind door number three, Bob, tell them what

57:56

they want. And death is what. A

58:00

gruesome, horrible death. They won't be able

58:03

to scream during. And then to go

58:05

on, when we knock on the

58:07

door, the kid gets up

58:09

and opens the door to

58:11

that very iconic shop that has been used in

58:14

the opening credits in Seasons Beyond That. It

58:17

was the door opening up and the two of

58:19

us just standing there at our different heights. Just

58:21

smiling. So scary. Can you imagine

58:23

being awakened out of a dead sleep in your

58:25

dorm room and that's what sets your door waiting

58:28

for you? You know what it is? What are

58:30

they selling? What are they selling? The

58:32

gentlemen look like a sweet paralysis demon. I

58:35

get sweet paralysis and every once in a while when you

58:37

get it, you will think you see a person in the

58:39

room with you. That's what it reminds

58:41

me of. That's it. That makes

58:44

sense. A shadowy version. And

58:46

that conversation was conveyed

58:49

perfectly in that scene

58:51

because that's what we were

58:53

thinking like, what about this one? No. And

58:56

at one point, you really shake your head

58:58

at one and you do this. And it was my

59:00

favorite moment. I think I did a

59:02

double cross with my hand. No, no, no. You're

59:04

like, oh no. Absolutely not. That's

59:06

love. It was

59:08

so good. And you know,

59:11

you continue, you pass by rooms, you pass

59:13

by Buffy and Willow's room and you continue

59:15

around the corner and that's when you get

59:17

to that poor student's room, 118, and

59:20

you knock on the door. And inside

59:22

that poor student just opens the door and

59:24

is like, what is happening? But

59:26

those little wacky inflatable tube men come running

59:28

at him and just restrain him on the

59:31

bed and you two enter the

59:33

room smiling and just nodding at each other.

59:35

And the student tries to scream, but

59:38

he can't. And one, I believe it's

59:40

one of you. Yeah, of course. And

59:42

one of you opens that doctor bag

59:45

and, you know, still trying to scream. That was

59:47

Camden. Camden was carrying the doctor bag. Yeah. And I

59:49

was, I was the lead surgeon on this one. And

59:53

you got the scalpel. The lead surgeon. I love it.

59:56

And I love it because he passes you that

59:58

scalpel. Like, here you go. And

1:00:01

that's more dialogue between the two of us. So

1:00:05

that was another moment that made

1:00:07

me shudder because we

1:00:10

were being so incredibly polite to each other. Would

1:00:13

you like to care? Would you like to do this one?

1:00:15

Ah, here's your tool. And I'm like, oh, thank you. And

1:00:18

I'll get right to it then. And

1:00:20

all without words spoken and smiling at each

1:00:22

other and nodding and in appreciation of each

1:00:24

other. And then there's this

1:00:26

kid tied down to the bed with

1:00:29

his pajamas open, just awaiting his own

1:00:31

death. Not being able to yell. It

1:00:33

just doesn't make sense. It's so

1:00:35

scary. It does. It scratches both part

1:00:38

of your scariness in your brain because

1:00:40

it's just like, ah, what's going

1:00:42

on? And it

1:00:45

reminded me of an old

1:00:47

timey operating theater when they

1:00:49

used to do operations in front

1:00:51

of a giant theater and everything's

1:00:53

very flourished. And for the

1:00:55

audience, it felt very much like that. You

1:00:58

passing each other the thing and holding up

1:01:00

the scalpel. I was like, ooh, so much.

1:01:05

But we do... Very theatrical. Very

1:01:07

theatrical. I love it. And

1:01:10

gentlemen, Doug leans down, inching the blade

1:01:12

towards the camera and we get slammed

1:01:14

into another non-existing commercial. And

1:01:16

you're like, what the hell? And

1:01:19

when we come back, we're at

1:01:21

the clock tower with a close-up

1:01:23

of a fresh human heart and

1:01:25

a mason jar. And

1:01:27

you gingerly set it down on the altar next

1:01:29

to the wooden box and we see six others,

1:01:31

but only three have hearts in them. And

1:01:34

you do your Disney princess flourish

1:01:36

at it. And the other

1:01:38

gentlemen give you that golf clop. I love

1:01:41

the golf clop. As

1:01:43

do I. This is a favorite moment

1:01:45

for me. So good. Another photo

1:01:47

snapshot moment where Camden and I get

1:01:49

confused for each other. Oftentimes

1:01:53

that picture of him applauding is tagged

1:01:55

as a Doug Jones photo. It is

1:01:57

not. It's a Camden toy photo. I'm

1:02:00

on the other side of the room with the jars, taking

1:02:03

my applause with such like

1:02:05

humility. Right. And I'll

1:02:07

tell you that that moment for me was I

1:02:11

was directed to just simply like, like, lap

1:02:13

up the applause and go with it. Right.

1:02:17

And so of course, I was like bowing

1:02:19

and like whatnot first, and then the Oh,

1:02:21

please, something I added in. I love knowing

1:02:23

that. Yep.

1:02:26

Right. Like, Oh, I don't know. I did

1:02:28

nothing. Yeah, like, stop it. Yeah,

1:02:30

it's that, it's that Oh, stop. That

1:02:33

means please keep going. Right. Exactly.

1:02:36

Oh, stop. And it's not about that

1:02:38

one gentleman without you really knowing anything

1:02:40

about him. Yes. Right. Right.

1:02:44

Right. So good. That

1:02:46

really is one of my favorite scenes that it's just so funny and so chilling.

1:02:48

It is. So unsettling. The

1:02:50

whole thing. We have human hearts in jars. What's chilling

1:02:52

about that? Yeah, I don't know. I

1:02:55

can't put my finger on it, but something's still there.

1:02:58

But the next morning we see Buffy do what she

1:03:00

does often, which is just walk into a crime

1:03:02

scene. That happens casually. Happens a lot

1:03:05

past the tape, just right past. And

1:03:07

she just walks right up to the corpse and

1:03:10

just looks at him. She's messed

1:03:12

up by it. She's not, you know, as we all would be.

1:03:15

That's probably not a great scene to walk upon. No. And

1:03:18

as someone, because I was an autopsy

1:03:20

technician for my job. So

1:03:23

I know what a person looks like. Opened

1:03:25

up like that. Yeah.

1:03:27

So imagine when you're doing it,

1:03:29

you know, kind of off book, that

1:03:31

would be a rough scene to walk into. Yeah, I think Buffy

1:03:33

would be a little more affected by that, I guess. But that

1:03:35

would be a rough one. She is the slayer. But

1:03:38

at Giles's, we see Olivia draw a

1:03:41

fairly good drawing of the gentleman. She's

1:03:43

no Angelus when it comes to drawing,

1:03:45

but he's pretty good. He's great. And

1:03:48

Giles gets the paper and is alarmed by the

1:03:50

fact that there were slayings the previous night. And

1:03:53

she shows him the picture and he's like,

1:03:55

oh my God. So he goes and grabs

1:03:57

a red leather bound tome of fairy tales.

1:04:00

Immediately when I saw that happen, I was like,

1:04:02

I'm in because I love a dark, twisted

1:04:04

fairy tale. That's why I love Pan's

1:04:07

Labyrinth so much because it has that

1:04:09

like dark, twisted fairy

1:04:11

tale element to it that just scares

1:04:13

me to my core. So

1:04:15

I was in here. And

1:04:18

this is when we get one of the funniest

1:04:20

scenes, I think, of like

1:04:22

the Scooby Gang. We get a hard

1:04:24

cut to the empty lecture hall. And

1:04:27

Giles has his little like projector and

1:04:29

his transparency films ready to go. And

1:04:31

he plays like, you know, in the

1:04:34

Hall of the Mountain King, as he explains.

1:04:37

And he has hilarious drawings of the

1:04:39

gentleman and he says they're fairy tale

1:04:42

monsters. And he asks, what do they

1:04:44

want? And Willow raises her hand and

1:04:46

then points at her chest. And

1:04:48

Xander's confused and he's like, the gentleman want boobs.

1:04:53

He's like, I'm I a gentleman? But

1:04:57

everyone just rolls their eyes at him. So

1:04:59

you're an idiot. And they're like, no, they

1:05:01

want hearts. And Anya is just sitting there

1:05:03

eating a popcorn as this is going on,

1:05:05

which is hilarious. And Giles shows

1:05:07

more films saying that they've come to town. They're

1:05:09

going to steal the voices so no one can

1:05:11

scream. And then he puts up

1:05:14

a cartoony picture of the gentleman brutally stabbing

1:05:16

someone on a bed. It's like gory everywhere.

1:05:18

And then he flips to an even bloodier

1:05:20

one with like the heart raised up in

1:05:22

his hand. And Anya's just

1:05:24

popping popcorn in her mouth like this is funny.

1:05:27

And she says they need seven hearts. They

1:05:29

have at least two. Xander

1:05:31

scrolls a message on the whiteboard saying,

1:05:33

how do we kill them? And Buffy

1:05:35

frantically makes this like wild

1:05:38

motion and everyone's just

1:05:40

like, honey, what? Like, they're just

1:05:42

like, what? Could be mistaken for a different

1:05:44

motion. Yeah, they're just like, no, that's how

1:05:46

Angel turns into Angelus and loses his soul.

1:05:48

That's not how we kill the gentleman. Yeah.

1:05:50

But she grabs a steak from her bag

1:05:52

and is like, stab them.

1:05:55

And they're like, oh, OK, that's

1:05:57

a better idea. And everybody does.

1:06:00

this so perfectly silently that

1:06:02

it's hilarious. We were

1:06:04

like, this would have been a very different

1:06:06

episode of Buffy, but honestly, they say the

1:06:08

only thing is no sword can kill them,

1:06:10

but one scream from the princess and it's

1:06:12

curtains for them. But this is

1:06:15

a problem because they're like, who can scream? Well, Willow

1:06:17

is like, I got it. And she holds

1:06:19

up a CD and I was like, is that just

1:06:21

a CD of people screaming that you have? Why do

1:06:23

you have that? In her purse. Yeah. I can solve this.

1:06:25

But Giles gets her bubble and is like, no,

1:06:33

it needs to be a real human voice. And Buffy

1:06:36

immediately Buffy's for a minute and is

1:06:38

like, so how do I get my voice

1:06:41

back? I was like, Oh, you're the princess Buffy. You

1:06:43

just, you automatically think that.

1:06:45

Immediately she's like, how do I get my

1:06:47

voice? Everybody you're the player and the princess.

1:06:49

Not fair. Damn. I was like,

1:06:52

Willow can't be the princess. Right. But I

1:06:54

mean, in truth, it's Buffy. It

1:06:56

is the princess. But Giles

1:06:58

doesn't know and puts the final film on

1:07:00

the projector, which says that Buffy will patrol

1:07:02

tonight and it has a pretty unflattering drawing

1:07:04

of her. Buffy is pissed

1:07:07

and she gestures towards her hips like, what the

1:07:09

hell? Why are they so wide? Like,

1:07:11

are you kidding me? And apparently

1:07:13

this was improvised by Sarah Michelle.

1:07:16

Funny. Like that whole

1:07:18

like, improvised and

1:07:20

Giles gestures that the others are going to go

1:07:22

research. So we got

1:07:24

our third act montage. Third

1:07:31

act montage. And it's at

1:07:33

the initiative with Riley and the edging crew. They're

1:07:35

getting into fatigues and all armed up and the

1:07:37

deaths from the previous night have amped them all

1:07:39

up and they're just ready to like undo

1:07:42

this whole situation. And

1:07:44

Buffy wanders down the darkened streets

1:07:46

scanning for the gentlemen. We see

1:07:48

Riley scanning his surroundings and see

1:07:50

shadows moving in the upper floor of the

1:07:53

clock tower. So he goes towards it. We

1:07:55

see Tara looking through the student directory trying

1:07:57

to find Willow's dorm. She grabs a book

1:07:59

and leaves her room for trying to find

1:08:01

Willow. And she walks towards a

1:08:03

dorm, like, you know, scanning around

1:08:05

her, but her head is bowed and

1:08:08

her hair is just always in her

1:08:10

face. So I was like, look up.

1:08:12

And she trips and falls on the

1:08:14

ground, which is really poor timing. Very

1:08:17

bad timing because behind her we see

1:08:19

Gentlemen Doug and Gentlemen Kenvin hover into

1:08:21

the frame and the wacky inflatable

1:08:23

two-bar men are all around them and they

1:08:25

all notice each other and Tara breaks out

1:08:27

in a run and the gentlemen follow her

1:08:30

very, very calmly. But follow her

1:08:32

so like Michael Myers at like

1:08:34

the very slow. I'm coming, but

1:08:36

I'm not in the rush. No, I'll be, I'll get you.

1:08:40

And I can attest that she was actually

1:08:42

in real life terrified. Really?

1:08:44

She'd never been encountered anything like

1:08:46

this before. And did people see

1:08:48

you before they got on to set

1:08:50

to shoot that specific scene

1:08:53

or like, did they surprise the people with

1:08:55

you or had they seen you beforehand? No, no,

1:08:57

they didn't, they didn't stage any kind of a

1:08:59

surprise of any sort, but, but, but she never

1:09:01

saw us out of makeup. So that it

1:09:04

does help when you can see the actor ahead of time.

1:09:06

Definitely. You can invite them

1:09:08

to the trailer to see the process in motion.

1:09:10

And then like, Oh, well that's just, that's just

1:09:13

that silly guy that I met earlier. Right. She

1:09:15

didn't have that advantage. That's rough.

1:09:18

And it's funny because I actually

1:09:20

like I take that notion with I

1:09:22

have seven year old twins and

1:09:25

they are starting to get into like spooky

1:09:27

things and scary stuff, but I'm trying to

1:09:30

use them. I don't want to like ruin

1:09:32

their lives. So whenever like they're, they

1:09:36

get a little freaked out by something they see,

1:09:38

I've had them watch that show face off on

1:09:41

Sci-fi where it was like the movie makeup. And

1:09:43

so I kind of show them like, see, you

1:09:45

can see the person and see how makeup can

1:09:48

transform somebody into something scary. It really helps. So

1:09:50

now anytime they see something scary on TV, it's

1:09:52

helped really well. Cause they'll be like, Oh, that's

1:09:54

just an actor in makeup. Like that's somebody with

1:09:56

makeup on their face and it's helped them like

1:09:59

to separate. So it really

1:10:01

is powerful how seeing someone before and seeing

1:10:03

the makeup after can like really change how

1:10:05

you see it Yes, we did that with Ivana,

1:10:08

but Caro who played little Ophelia? Invited

1:10:12

her to come to the makeup room for the

1:10:14

different characters the fun and the pale man So

1:10:17

she could see it in process and she we could

1:10:19

we could hold hands and say funny things to each

1:10:21

other And so on set it wasn't gonna be like

1:10:24

to tear she was 11 years old So you really

1:10:26

have to take care of especially with the pale man.

1:10:28

Oh, and she was so cute Yes,

1:10:30

my gosh, I could see you know,

1:10:32

oh cool, but the pale man. Yeah, not so cool.

1:10:34

That's a hard one to get by But

1:10:38

I love that that you like it that she came

1:10:40

into the room because it it really does help It

1:10:42

makes a difference to like just to see that transformation.

1:10:44

Yeah. Yeah, that's so cool But

1:10:47

Buffy sees another one of the gentlemen floating

1:10:49

near a house and one of those wacky

1:10:51

inflatable guys pops out of a bushes And

1:10:53

like just bum rushes her and

1:10:56

Tara runs into Willows dorm and the gentlemen

1:10:58

are just hot on her trail She's panicking

1:11:00

like banging on all the doors. No one's

1:11:02

gonna answer cuz they're like people are stealing

1:11:04

hearts out here I'm not answering the door smart But

1:11:07

the gentlemen hover towards her quickly and they're

1:11:10

ready to get another heart On

1:11:12

wisteria lane Buffy is battling with the

1:11:14

car dealership wacky inflatable armed men He's

1:11:17

wily though and she grabs him and

1:11:19

like breaks his neck So

1:11:22

but as soon as that happens another one comes

1:11:24

flying out of nowhere and she just breaks out into

1:11:26

a run in the clock tower Riley

1:11:28

is entering a room but he's immediately knocked to

1:11:30

the ground by one of those crazy guys and

1:11:33

He bashes him over the head with a baton that

1:11:35

he just pulls out of his boot. Just like boop

1:11:39

We see tarot getting her cardio on dashing

1:11:41

up the stairs She's rushing

1:11:43

up to the first door that she sees

1:11:45

which is 219 right down the hall from

1:11:47

Willows She bangs on the door

1:11:49

for way too long and in her room We

1:11:52

see Willow hearing the commotion and she gets up

1:11:55

in the hallway Tara wraps on the

1:11:57

door frantically as the gentlemen start hovering

1:11:59

into view and the door

1:12:01

finally creaks open revealing, gasp, another

1:12:03

gentleman holding another freshly stolen heart.

1:12:06

So he's like, hey, girl, I'm

1:12:08

in here. And

1:12:11

to that we say, R.I.P. to the Queen in

1:12:13

room 219. We never knew

1:12:15

you. Never knew you. Sorry, what happened? But we'll

1:12:17

forerun out for you. Whoever

1:12:19

you were, sorry, you lost your heart. But

1:12:22

Tara breaks into her run, but her hair is

1:12:24

just still flopping into her face. So she just

1:12:27

pummels into Willow, who has come to check out

1:12:29

the situation in the hallway. They both fly through

1:12:31

the air like Angel diving after a rat into

1:12:33

a pile of trash and becoming part one. We

1:12:35

always get that in there. We always have to

1:12:38

get that one thing into an episode. And

1:12:40

the gentlemen just smile as they keep

1:12:42

running down the hallway. Tara and Willow

1:12:45

rush through a set of double doors,

1:12:47

and the two little wacky guys are

1:12:49

pursuing them. Now back in

1:12:51

the clock tower, Riley is not

1:12:53

well. He's just getting beat

1:12:55

on by these little gremlin things, and

1:12:58

he's trying like A for effort, but he reaches

1:13:00

for his gun that is just out of reach

1:13:03

right when another wacky inflatable guy just

1:13:05

yeets himself through a door. Buffy

1:13:07

Kool-Aid man through a boarded-up window and

1:13:10

just goes off. Oh my gosh, she

1:13:12

just starts like kicking ass. She too

1:13:14

becomes wacky and inflatable. She certainly does.

1:13:18

And Riley manages to get up and yeet

1:13:20

his guy across the room, but they

1:13:22

both fly around and end up

1:13:24

aiming their weapons at each other.

1:13:26

And finally, they see each

1:13:28

other. They see that they are both

1:13:30

creatures of the night, like

1:13:32

battling evil. Finally. And

1:13:36

we went to a non-existent commercial. When

1:13:38

we come back, they're still staring at each other

1:13:40

in shock until one of the

1:13:43

straight jacket guys just pops up. Buffy

1:13:45

starts showing off her Slayer skills. Riley

1:13:47

shoots it with a taser because... Gold

1:13:49

habits. There's punching, there's kicking, there's

1:13:51

music. That kind of sounds like Mission Impossible

1:13:53

blaring. And Buffy takes the opportunity to grab

1:13:55

a rope and just Tarzan swinging to one

1:13:57

of the two men, yeeting his...

1:14:00

through a support beam, Riley

1:14:02

stunned. We get

1:14:04

a quick little shoot at Giles's house where

1:14:06

Spike is drinking. This is like, we go

1:14:08

from this wild like action

1:14:10

and then we're just at Giles's house and

1:14:13

Spike is just drinking a cup of blood from

1:14:15

the fridge. And he's like all

1:14:17

vamped out and he gets a blood mustache and

1:14:20

he heads into the living room and grabs

1:14:22

something from the coffee table and Anya is

1:14:24

very dramatically draped on the couch asleep and

1:14:27

Xander enters the room as Spike is

1:14:29

like bending down. This becomes like a

1:14:32

silent movie. It does, right? Very much

1:14:34

a silent movie. Like all the gestures

1:14:36

are so wild. And

1:14:38

from Xander's vantage point, all he sees

1:14:40

is Anya unconscious, theatrical looking on

1:14:43

the couch and William the bloody

1:14:45

popping up with a blood stash

1:14:47

all vamped out. Different than a

1:14:49

milk stash. Very different. He

1:14:51

launches at Spike, starts beating on him

1:14:53

because Spike can't fight back because of

1:14:55

that little implant chip. Anya

1:14:58

wakes up and is like, hello, like

1:15:00

talking. I'm okay. I'm good. And

1:15:02

he makes like a very big show

1:15:05

of being relieved and he kisses her

1:15:07

and romantic music plays very much a

1:15:09

silent movie. And she's just

1:15:12

happy because we got that little callback of like, you

1:15:14

finally showed me that you care about me. And

1:15:16

Xander pulls away more than

1:15:19

just orgasms. You care if I

1:15:21

live or die. So that's very cool. We

1:15:23

all love to find that out about the person we love that

1:15:26

they care if you live or die. It's

1:15:29

such a plus that they care. That's

1:15:31

like pinnacle relationship behavior. It's like nice.

1:15:33

Put that on the pro list. Right.

1:15:36

Xander pulls away and just looks at

1:15:39

Spike like oops. Sorry. And

1:15:41

Olivia and Giles are just watching it. And

1:15:44

then Anya pulls away and she gives that

1:15:46

look like let's go. And then everyone

1:15:48

in the room who was looking at

1:15:51

them like, oh, is

1:15:53

like, ew. No, Willow and

1:15:55

Tara are in like a laundry room

1:15:57

of sorts or some kind of little room. And they're

1:16:00

trying to move a soda machine against the door. And

1:16:02

Willow falls to the floor, and she's trying to

1:16:05

use her mind to move the soda machine. Trying

1:16:07

to carry it. And it kind of wobbles a

1:16:09

little, but she can't make it happen. And Tara's

1:16:11

watching this all happen. And then

1:16:13

she like just timidly goes to hold Willow's

1:16:16

hand. I love this part. I think

1:16:18

it's so great. Like Tara does a really good job

1:16:20

with this. And it's really sweet, but

1:16:22

also you're like, you two are badasses and I

1:16:24

think you can do this together. Oh yeah. And

1:16:27

they look at each other right in the eyes and

1:16:29

then they whip their heads around to look at the

1:16:31

soda machine. And it just like flies across the room

1:16:33

to the door. And they're just

1:16:35

like, what just happened? But

1:16:38

they don't have time to really ponder it because we're

1:16:40

back at the tower. And Buffy follows

1:16:42

one of those crazy little guys up the stairs.

1:16:44

And this is when she sees that little alter

1:16:46

with all the hearts on it. She

1:16:49

gets restrained by some of these little gremlins and

1:16:51

the gentlemen are kind of hovering towards her. One

1:16:54

of them grabs a scalpel and is like, let's

1:16:56

go girls. And luckily Riley

1:16:59

shoots lightning at them

1:17:01

from his like upgraded taser. As one does.

1:17:03

I was like, that was straight up lightning.

1:17:06

But she gets, they're distracted. So she gets

1:17:08

the upper hand. And

1:17:11

then a gentleman sneaks up behind her and stabs

1:17:13

her with the scalpel. Right when she thinks she

1:17:15

has the upper hand. Yeah. And

1:17:17

she gets restrained by the little gremlins and

1:17:19

she looks at the heart alter and notices

1:17:21

that wooden box and remembers it from her

1:17:23

dream. So she gestures at Riley

1:17:25

like pointing at it. And he

1:17:27

just rears back and he looks like Zoolander

1:17:29

doing blue steel. Like he's just like, I'm

1:17:31

gonna save the day. And the video like

1:17:34

slows down as he dramatically smashes a bottle

1:17:36

next to the box. So wrong thing. And

1:17:38

shatters it. And he just like looks up

1:17:40

like, I did it. And she rolls her

1:17:42

eyes at him like, no. And she's like

1:17:45

the box. So he smashes the

1:17:47

box and all the white wisps fly out

1:17:49

out through the window. One floats

1:17:51

down Buffy's throat and she

1:17:53

takes a deep breath and

1:17:55

just screams. And she screams

1:17:57

so long. It's a long.

1:18:00

This long scream and

1:18:02

the gentlemen all shudder and they're grasping to

1:18:04

cover their ears, but they're like seizing up

1:18:07

and your heads all explode in this

1:18:09

torrent of just disgusting yellow sludge. And

1:18:11

it is so gross and

1:18:13

so awesome all at the same time.

1:18:16

I loved it. It's such

1:18:18

a good ending to it. I love this scene too.

1:18:20

This was, this was so fun to play. And this

1:18:22

was a, we had stunt coordinators working with us because

1:18:24

of all that fighting that led up to this moment.

1:18:28

I happened to be the gentleman with the scalpel that was

1:18:30

coming at her and stabbed her in the back. And

1:18:32

I did to show you

1:18:35

how loyal this crew is that was

1:18:37

working behind the scenes on this show.

1:18:41

When I, of course, when I'm working with an

1:18:44

actor and there's a sharp thing coming at them,

1:18:46

we, I like to, you know, to make sure,

1:18:48

are you comfortable with this? Let me

1:18:50

know how much pressure is too much pressure so that

1:18:52

I can choreograph myself to not hurt you. We're

1:18:55

having this discussion, Sarah Michelle and

1:18:58

I, and after we were done, I

1:19:00

got back to my starting place where I was going

1:19:02

to float in and give her like a, to the

1:19:04

back. Now you didn't actually see Blade hit back. So

1:19:07

I was going to do it with my, with my knuckles. So she knew

1:19:09

I was there. Somebody

1:19:11

from the crew, I don't know if it was a, one

1:19:14

of the camera assistants or somebody came up to me and

1:19:16

hence it got in my face and said, just

1:19:18

remember she's number one on the

1:19:20

call sheet. Yes, sir. Yes. I

1:19:23

get it. I don't

1:19:25

want to ruin your show for you. Oh my

1:19:27

God. They were all very protective of her. You

1:19:30

can imagine how many fight scenes that you

1:19:32

woman had over the course of this show.

1:19:35

Yeah, seriously. And, you know, and I'm, she

1:19:37

might've been hurt before, you know, like on

1:19:39

one. And so they were just very like,

1:19:41

do not be the next one who does that

1:19:43

to her. You know, you will be ever with

1:19:45

you. But

1:19:48

it was actually, you know, even though I didn't take personal

1:19:50

offense, I totally understood where that came from. And

1:19:53

so I was the first head to pop

1:19:55

open and explode. And

1:19:57

a little trick, what came out of

1:19:59

our heads. What they used was, and

1:20:01

they replaced me quickly with

1:20:04

a fake head that

1:20:06

had explosion capabilities that my own skull

1:20:08

doesn't do. And

1:20:10

what came out of it was macaroni

1:20:12

and cheese with green food coloring in

1:20:14

it. Oh my God! Oh!

1:20:16

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, that's cool to know. That's so disgusting.

1:20:18

You'll never look at mac and cheese the same again, right?

1:20:21

No, no. And I have young kids,

1:20:23

so I look at macaroni and cheese daily. Yeah,

1:20:25

exactly, that's a staple in your house. Yeah, some green

1:20:27

food coloring in it. Oh, that's interesting. I can't

1:20:29

wait to look at that scene though. I don't

1:20:31

know that. Knowing everything we know now, I wanna

1:20:34

go back and rewatch. I know, this is fun

1:20:36

to know. Thank you for all

1:20:38

these, this is really fun. Right, and by

1:20:40

the way, my hands were up here while

1:20:42

I was feeling the pain with

1:20:44

the scream. And I had to get

1:20:47

my hands down to the sides because the dummy that

1:20:49

they built that was gonna explode did not have hands

1:20:51

up here. Yeah, see how to quickly. That's

1:20:54

why I kinda went still before they cut back

1:20:56

to me. Oh, that's so cool to know though.

1:20:59

I love that. Macaroni. Macaroni, look at

1:21:01

that. And that's a wrap. And that's

1:21:03

a wrap on that, on the gentlemen

1:21:05

at least. And at

1:21:07

that point, all we really have left is Riley

1:21:10

and Buffy worried about their relationship now,

1:21:12

being like, well, what are you and

1:21:14

what are mine? That's

1:21:16

weird. And how does this affect our future together?

1:21:18

Exactly, is this awesome or is

1:21:20

it not? And we do get

1:21:22

a quick scene of Willow and Tara kind

1:21:25

of like just trying to suss

1:21:27

out what was going on here. And

1:21:29

Willow asked Tara how long she's been practicing

1:21:31

because Tara was like, I was trying to

1:21:33

find you to do a spell to help

1:21:35

get people's voices back. And Willow's

1:21:37

like, how long have you been practicing? And Tara

1:21:39

is very quiet and timid and she calls her.

1:21:41

Always, I mean, since

1:21:44

I am with Willow. My mom,

1:21:46

she had a lot of power. Thank

1:21:53

you. And Willow, always a humble queen

1:21:55

says, oh, I'm not,

1:21:58

I don't have much. in the

1:22:00

way of power. Really, I mean, most of

1:22:02

my potions come out soup.

1:22:06

Besides, spells going awry,

1:22:09

friends in danger. Definitely nothing

1:22:12

special. And Tara

1:22:14

stares at her meaningfully, telling her, no,

1:22:16

you are. And they smile at each

1:22:18

other and you say, oh, they like

1:22:20

each other. Forget Oz. He's

1:22:22

old. So old

1:22:24

news, old news. At Giles's, we get him

1:22:26

asking, this kind of broke my heart a

1:22:29

little bit, because he asked Olivia

1:22:31

if it was her best visit ever. And

1:22:33

she tells him that when he used to talk about

1:22:35

witchcraft and stuff like that, she thought he was just

1:22:37

being pretentious. And he's like, well, I was, but I

1:22:39

was also telling the truth. And

1:22:41

she says, everything, is everything

1:22:44

true? And he says, the monsters are

1:22:46

definitely true. And she says, that's scary.

1:22:48

And he says, too scary. And she

1:22:50

says, I don't know. And he

1:22:52

looks really sad. And I was like, you

1:22:54

gotta hang in there with him. He needs a new love

1:22:56

interest. It's been so long. And Joyce, I guess.

1:23:00

Yeah, that's true. Joyce for a moment.

1:23:03

But we then see Riley showing up at Buffy's

1:23:05

dorm and they're kind of being awkward with each

1:23:07

other. They sit across from each other on the

1:23:09

beds and he's like, I guess

1:23:11

we need to talk. And she says, I

1:23:13

guess we do. And the shot just pans

1:23:16

back into hushed silence. You did

1:23:18

that. Great

1:23:21

cinematic cliffhanger. Oh,

1:23:23

yeah, exactly. So

1:23:25

that that's hush. And I

1:23:28

think it's a phenomenal episode. It really

1:23:30

is my favorite episode. And it's a

1:23:32

lot of people's favorite episode. And again,

1:23:34

that is in part mostly to you

1:23:36

in your performance. So good. Yeah, you

1:23:38

and Camden. Yes. Thank you. That's

1:23:40

really sweet. I think the show

1:23:43

had a good following all already.

1:23:48

No one was watching it. And then this came and

1:23:50

it changed everything.

1:23:52

Yeah, exactly. But also, thank you so

1:23:54

much for giving us all that behind

1:23:56

the scenes stuff. It's fascinating. People

1:23:59

who love the show love it. to hear that stuff. We

1:24:01

love to hear that stuff. They're going to be

1:24:03

so excited. Yeah. Oh, well, thank you. I

1:24:05

think you have, you touch on

1:24:07

fashion at some point. Yes. Yes. And

1:24:09

may I say, can I put my vote

1:24:12

in right now? Of course. Sure. For the

1:24:14

most fashionable would have been indeed the gentleman.

1:24:16

Absolutely. Those long black suits and the ties

1:24:19

and the high collars was

1:24:21

a look that I absolutely loved. And it

1:24:23

was so fitted to each one of us.

1:24:27

When I was going to be going to the Oscars

1:24:29

for the first time, it was with Pan's Labyrinth. And

1:24:32

I'm like, well, gosh, what am I going to wear?

1:24:34

And I was not famous enough for Armani to come

1:24:36

looking for me. So,

1:24:38

you know, this is because that was like 2007 was

1:24:40

the Oscars for Pan's Labyrinth. They

1:24:45

had like six nominations that night. And I was the

1:24:47

only, I was only American in the movie

1:24:49

that spoke English as a first language. They didn't want

1:24:51

me to do some press on the red carpet. What

1:24:54

am I going to wear? So I thought

1:24:56

I looked really hot in that gentleman's suit.

1:24:58

I love it. I

1:25:01

don't know how I still had the number

1:25:03

for I had a contact of some sort

1:25:05

for the costume department. I said, what, what

1:25:07

were we wearing? Is it around? Is it

1:25:09

in storage somewhere? Can I borrow it? And

1:25:12

they said, well, no, there's a problem. I

1:25:14

don't know what happened. But they said, we

1:25:16

got them from some store that specialized in

1:25:18

Western wear. Oh,

1:25:20

of course. Now I get it. It was like that old, like, you

1:25:22

know, the the flat black

1:25:24

rimmed hat that would go with that maybe and

1:25:27

like, where you come in on a horse and

1:25:29

you're like the tax collector or something. More, yeah,

1:25:31

more, more like a dastardly, you know, businessman and

1:25:33

back in

1:25:38

that era. So I did I

1:25:40

went to that store and I got fitted for

1:25:42

I got my own I bought my own gentleman's

1:25:44

suit that I've worn several times to several occasions

1:25:46

over the years. That is cool.

1:25:49

Amazing, amazing notion. I love that

1:25:51

you were just like, I looked

1:25:53

really good. And

1:25:56

I did I wore a white tie with a white shirt and I

1:25:59

kind of changed my eyes. accents that were different shoes that

1:26:01

had, you know, they were black and white, like

1:26:03

spectators, like looking in shoes. And

1:26:06

when you get asked on the red carpet,

1:26:08

what are you wearing, right? Who are you

1:26:11

wearing? It's like, oh, well, I

1:26:13

would bring up Buffy and like this is

1:26:16

what came started in Buffy and I altered it a

1:26:18

bit. Yeah, I love that. And

1:26:22

I agree with you. I was gonna say my fashion

1:26:24

and was the gentleman tailored suits. They

1:26:27

love a tailored suit. They win the episode.

1:26:29

Yeah. Right. Yeah,

1:26:32

truly. Definitely. That

1:26:35

was really amazing. And seriously, Doug,

1:26:37

Dougie, Dougie, because we're friends. This

1:26:41

was really amazing for both of us. Like

1:26:43

I am a big fan. I've been a

1:26:45

big fan since Pan's Labyrinth and Hocus Pocus.

1:26:47

Those are like knowing that you

1:26:50

held the mods in your mouth for Hocus Pocus

1:26:52

after they that the commitment to the role. Like

1:26:54

I tell everyone that when we watch it. I

1:26:56

told my kids, I was like, he really had

1:26:58

malances in his mouth. You were the one to

1:27:00

tell me. Yeah. So this was really awesome. And

1:27:02

like, thank you so much for taking the time

1:27:04

to do this for us. We really appreciate it.

1:27:06

It's been a great treat. Thank you so much.
