Ron Munn, this weeks special guest on The Roe Show, has an intimate relationship to trampoline history because he actually was there watching the sport develop, all the way to seeing it enter the Olympics in 2000. Ronnie worked hand-in-hand with George Nissen, the inventor of the Trampoline. Larry Griswold is the co-inventor of the trampoline and Ronnie gives us a complete timeline of how the equipment was created with Larry and George, how it was then distributed all over the world and how the competitive aspect of the sport was developed over the years. Ronnie discusses how the world's first trampoline park was created back in the late 1950’s and how that was the beginning of a brand new competitive sport. We discuss how scoring systems for trampoline have changed over time and Ronnie even gives us the inside-scoop about how Double Mini Trampoline was developed. He even gives us the story about how they put a trampoline on a Pyramid.

We then go onto discuss how he and George would travel around the world promoting trampoline in the 60’s and 70’s by opening up trampoline training centres, even in far flung places like South Africa. Just like they way I hit the road years ago to spread the word of Freestyle Trampoline, as a derivative of traditional trampoline, I noticed that I was following the same path as Ronnie did with George many years ago. A native of Amarillo, Texas Ron Munn began his trampoline career at the age of 12 under the watchful eye of well-known coach, Nard Cazzell. He won the 1956 National AAU trampoline title while a 15-year old sophomore in high school, and once again as a freshman on the University of Michigan gymnastics team in 1959. During these years he was also named a member of the AAU All-American Gymnastics Team, and in 1959 won the Gold Medal in trampoline at the Pan American Games.

With a long career in the sport and the industry of trampoline, there is nobody out there who knows more about the history of this sport than Ronnie and Dagmar, George Nissen's daughter. In 2001, Ronnie became a World Acrobatic Society Legend as was inducted into their Hall of Fame. WAS, as it is known, originated from a gathering of college gymnastics and trampoline friends for George's birthday, that spawned the creation of the non-profit group that inducts all acrobatic discipline leaders & legends each year in Las Vegas at their annual convention.

A huge thank you to Ronnie and his wife Dagmar, George Nissen's daughter, for contributing to this educational program with their wonderful historical photos and videos! If you love trampoline you won't want to miss this episode!!
