The amount of love I have for Carpenter is indescribable. I cannot wait to find out more about the Trawler Man and Faulkners Backstory and the mystery of this amazing, creepy world.
weird and captivating. I'm not big on mythical stuff but this is done extremely realistically. a post apocalypse what if gods existed/people believed in a bunch of themthey slightly reminded me of Winchesters with their bickering and under-skin love for each other.good podcast, tough to pitch, it seems it needs to have a certain appreciative audience who slightly know what they are getting into
This is one of the best shows I have listened to, and one of the few that has genuinely horrified me.The characters are fantastic, well-acted, and well-written, but really, it's the world that drew me in and held me. It's... awful. Wonderful. Deeply fascinating. What would a world be like if gods were active, ubiquitous, hungry, powerful, and possibly not even truly sapient? The absolute uncaring nature of the gods in this, and the way that shapes civilization is explored deeply, without info dumping at the audience. The writers take away any polite fictions, and dig in to just how badly something like this could (would?) go, given human nature, even accounting for the existence of good people.I've seen magic framed as divine power before. And I've seen divine power framed as a natural resource. But the way this show looks at the gods themselves is something I've not come across, and it's executed wonderfully. If you like horror, and are willing to actually be horrified, listen.
The Silt Verses is accurately named: This story is pure poetry, from the narrative to the character arcs to the soundscaping, even the first lines of each episode. I laughed, I cried, I gave praise to the Trawlerman. I recommend this to anyone who asks me for horror audiofiction because it is just so good.
This would receive five stars, as it is truly excellent. But the audio production is some of the worst I have ever come across. Each episode seems like a draft got uploaded by accident. And unfortunately it only gets worse.Narrative - 5/5Production quality - 1/5Audio quality - 3/5 - the two leads are recorded very well, the extras and minor characters were recorded through a tin can attached to a string connected to a usb port. Inclusivity - 4/5 - Lots of diversity here, and well managed.Voice acting - 4/5 despite the audio quality, the VA is mostly very good. TOTAL: 64%
The Silt Verses? This show right here? This show rules. I can't overstate that enough. This show absolutely rules. It's genuinely difficult to explain this show and do it justice- the world is so much more expansive than saying "eldritch corporate theology and your boss wants to sacrifice you to the thing in the basement for fourth quarter profits" would suggest. It rules. Go listen.
A very engaging story, amazing characters, and EXCELLENT writing and soundscaping. Usually it's very difficult for me to listen to episodes that are longer than 30 min, but these fly by!
This world keeps on growing and growing, and the quality keeps improving and improving. An absolute blast of a show, so tough and yet tender.
brilliant amazing showstopping spectacular never the same, you get it. absolutely LOVE the world building in this show. i've just finished listening and this is the show that's spurred me to review again, just because i wanted to say how much i love it. not a single letdown. slayed.
Truly one of the best shows out there. The quality of it can't be overstated and all the mythology is absolutely mind-blowing. Every episode is very special and the voice acting, the soundscaping, the music are excellent too. Carpenter is one of the best characters in podcasts for me, hands down. If you enjoy body horror and religious horror as well as masterful storytelling, give it a listen.
One of the most unique audio dramas out there! The core strength of Silt Verses is its world-building. In really subtle ways, the world of the Silt Verses comes alive with horrifying implications. The two protagonists being the worshippers of an "illegal" god, along with the brief interruptions by characters not-aligned with that god, really give a fantastic examination into the world of manufactured gods. Each of the little gods we delve into are really terrifically fascinating (my personal favorite being the god of the poor man on the radio). The voice acting of both Carpenter and Faulkner are terrific, too - the little japes and jibes between them really display a few different angles of religion, and I think both sides are represented pretty realistically [and sympathetically!]. I'm also a sucker for extremely good water horror, and it's so rare that we get to see the horror come from the river itself! Cannot recommend TSV enough, and very excited for S2!
Honestly this is probably the most unique audiodrama I have had the pleasure to listen to. I just don't even have anything to compare it to, it's so fresh and different from literally everything else I've heard. It's equal parts beautiful and horrifying. It can be slow and pensive, and then absolutely gripping in the next second. The voice acting is fantastic, the writing is flawless, I can't find anything to criticize at all.I'm definitely planning on re-listening at some point, because the world that's been created here is so deep and layered that I have no doubt there's plenty I missed on the first go around.
Lyrical and poetic narration, with vivid description of body horror. Explores religion from different perspectives, including someone disillusioned with her religion and a fanatic convert. Includes the commodification of religion, human sacrifice, crab monsters, and kidnapping. The world is interesting and I like the pace of how it's revealed; in a few episodes you go from seeing the main characters be villain protagonists to seeing how fucked up the rest of society also is. The character dynamics are entertaining, especially in how the main characters' relationship develops and their forms of worship contrast. I love how the narration is formatted and how if you're binging, there aren't any credits so one episode flows into the next. The only real critique I have is with the production/sound design in the first season: it has its moments with suitable water and body horror noises, but especially when some of the more minor characters are speaking (and even sometimes when the main characters are), it's clear they're using different mics, and the leveling needs improvement. The second season resolves this issue.
Phenomenal story and world building. Nothing else like it.
Just absolutely phenomenal. The writing is almost lyrical, the world-building is insanely immersive, every voice actor is giving the performance of a lifetime, and the story is insanely compelling
Super spooky and really interesting
The world building alone is next level. Throw in a healthy dose of horror and even some funny bits and you're absorbed into this strange world of gods and prophets and people. I'm amazed and at in depth the writing is even when the focus isn't on the main cast. Incredibly well done!
One of few podcasts I've listened through twice over, back to back. There is not another piece of audio fiction out there that does quite as well as The Silt Verses in terms of worldbuilding. Jon and Muna seamlessly transport the listener from the real world to the universe in which The Silt Verses is possible. You won't question why, only what happens next? Horribly addictive and wonderful writing.
I have been an avid listener of The Silt Verses since its first release and it has been a delight to watch the show go from strength to strength and get the recognition the team deserve. The story is unlike anything I have ever heard and the world-building becomes more expansive as the show goes on. The writing is incredible, balancing complex emotional realisations with genuinely unsettling descriptions and nail-biting action sequences. I think the show features some of the absolute best voice actors in the business. The actors bring the messy complexity of the characters’ relationships and religion to life, often in the most heart-wrenching way and I could sit and listen to them all monologue for HOURS. I have to be careful listening during my commutes because if the episode has not finished by the time I get home, I cannot leave my car until I find out how it ends!
THE best horror audiodrama going. Outstanding from voice acting, to script to world building, to audiodesign. Just faultless.
