Remember, when you choose your category and build your citations you need to, and I quote, "Take your damn time."

If you only fall into one category, stick to just that category. Don't pick a category that you don't fall into and if you can't find your specific category pick something as close to what you do as possible.

Research your category as best as possible on Blumenthals, Moz Local, and YP.

Don't be afraid to switch categories if your business shifts the products or services it offers by updating your categories in existing citations.
What To Do Next
You now have a deeper knowledge of proper category association. It's time to put this new found knowledge to use. Here is what you can do to put all of this into action:

1) Research Categories For Your Restaurant

Use the spreadsheet above, check Blumenthals and Moz Local, and jot down 4-5 categories that you fall into. Keep this list handy.

2) Use Categories In Powerful Citations

Take your categories from above and use Phil's spreadsheet of citations to update your most powerful citation's sources. Remember if you can't find your exact category pick one that is the closest to what you offer.

3) Watch Your Rankings Climb

After you have straightened out your categories on your citations and all your other local signals are good, sit back and monitor your rankings over the next couple of weeks.

You should see some movement. If you don't see movement you might have bigger problems.
