As I share more and more Standing O stories with you with entrepreneurs who have had Standing O experiences in their lives or businesses, one of the common threads in each story is the need for a coach. Every successful person has said that their business or life went to the next level when they set about finding a coach that helped them achieve new goals.Bob Nardelli, as CEO of Home Depot, said “I absolutely believe that people, unless coached, never reach their full potential.”One of the definitions of coaching that I really like is that coaching is releasing your potential to maximize your own performance. It’s helping you to learn rather than to be taught. So a good coach doesn’t just teach me to do something. A good coach helps me to learn about myself, and find the path, so that I really learn it myself. A good coach will help me attain a high level of self knowledge.I also think that good coaches will help you or me focus on the process. Again, it’s about learning and growth. Once the end goal is determined, then a coach helps to break goals down into doable tasks and objectives and then gives great feedback along the way.Finding a Coach has BenefitsSo, how do you know if you need a coach? Well, the simple answer is you need one – simple as that. Remember that common thread of success included finding a coach? But, here are three other reasons to support finding a coach:
  • Are you feeling stuck? Walt Disney said, “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” A good coach will ask you what you want to accomplish, then move you toward taking action.
  • Do you need accountability? A good coach will encourage you to follow through with what you’re doing. It’s all about staying on track with action and results.
  • Do you want to get to your goal faster? The old adage that time is money is true, A good coach has experience and knows what you’re trying to accomplish. That experience will help you get to your goals faster.
A lot of times as entrepreneurs, we feel that we can do it all ourselves. We’re achievers. We’re high performers.I know one of the hardest things for me when I started The Standing O Show was to admit that getting a coach was beneficial and the investment was worth it even at a time when revenue is low when first starting out. I’ve had many years of experience as an executive in corporate America, but building a podcast is new for me. After hearing all my guests talk about the benefits of finding and working with a coach, I swallowed my pride and sought out a coach who I’ll start working with in a couple of weeks. I believe in the saying that “success leaves clues”. If every guest talks about the transformational role of a coach in their Standing O experiences, then that’s worth paying attention to.Is there someone you can seek out as a coach for your life or business and take it the next level?Finding a coach will do many things for you, but I think there two things that are most important: Increased productivity and confidence.Think Big! And surround yourself with people who think bigger than you.Finding a Coach“Coaching is the universal language to connect people, helping them to develop a new perspective, while expanding their inner beliefs and boundaries, equipping them to be the best version of themselves.” – Farshad Asl
