Thinking Big is the topic of today’s Mindset Monday. One of the keys to a success mindset is that you think big! And, you also understand that you are what you think. You can win success by believing you can succeed. Once you decide to achieve what you're thinking about, then go after it with everything you've got. Look at things as they can be, not as they are. Imagine how it will feel after the change is made, develop a plan with smaller goals and take action making adjustments as you go along, and celebrate as you achieve the steps of your plan along the way.

They really do matter, and I read every one of them.Episode NotesHello, thanks for listening Ovation Nation! I’m your host, Marc Smith.Today, I want to talk to you about Thinking Big! Look, you spend your whole day thinking, you might as well think big.Back in the Intro Episode 000, I talked about 3 kinds of mindset – the growth mindset, the success or champion mindset, and the millionaire or abundance mindset. One of the keys to each of them is that you think big! And, you also understand that you are what you think. You can win success by believing you can succeed. David Schwartz, the author of The Magic of Thinking Big, writes, “The mind is what the mind is fed”.Feed your mind good thoughts, positive thoughts, big thoughts, and big things will come. Emeril Lagasse says, “If you think big, then it’s going to be big.”

Thinking Big and a Rubber BandImagine that you’re holding a rubber band in your left hand between your thumb and forefinger at about chest level. This represents the way things are in your life right now, it’s your current reality. Now, take the other end of the rubber band with your right hand between your thumb and forefinger and pull it upward toward your chin. The top of the rubber band now represents something bigger that you want, it’s your desired state or your goal, or the thing that you’re thinking bigger about. One of the first things that you’ll notice when you pull the rubber band upward toward the thing or goal you desire is that it creates tension in the rubber band. That’s normal. And, that’s what happens in us as we think big. A tension forms in our minds because we are taking ourselves out of our current situation into something different or bigger. We are imagining something that is out of our comfort zone. Now this tension is normal and it’s a good thing. It means you’re thinking big.If your thoughts about what you want to achieve begin to make you nervous, or fear or doubt begin to creep in, or other people say it can’t be done…that’s normal. Your mind wants to relieve the tension. And there are only two ways to do that. Two Ways to Relieve Big Thinking TensionSo, can you still imaging the rubber band stretched in front of you – the lower hand representing the way things are now and the top hand representing what you want? You’re thinking big, and one of the ways you can relieve this tension is to return the top hand to meet the bottom hand (which means giving up on your big thought and returning to the way things are). I want to encourage you not to give in to fear or doubt.T. Harv Eker, author of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, says in regard to people who want to develop a millionaire mindset, “The biggest obstacle to wealth is fear. People are afraid to think big, but if you think small, you’ll only achieve small things.”Now, the 2nd way, or the better way to relieve the tension in the rubber band is to bring the lower hand to meet the higher hand – to bring your current reality up to your bigger, desired state. And the way to do that is
  • Acknowledge the tension or fear or doubt.
  • Then, to go after what you want with everything you’ve got.
  • Look at things as they can be, not as they are. Imagine, or visualize, how it will feel after the change is made.
  • Develop a plan with smaller goals and take action making adjustments as you go along (at this point focus on the process more than the outcome).
  • And, definitely celebrate as you achieve the steps of your plan along the way.
The key is not to procrastinate until you think you know how to make it happen. David Schwartz says, “When you believe, your mind will find a way” and there’s a Zen saying, “Leap and the net will appear”.What is one thing that you are thinking big about today, Ovation Nation, that creates tension in you?Can you think even bigger? When you see that you can do it, you’ll build up the belief in your self to do even more.Thinking Big!Think big and don’t listen to people who tell you it can’t be done.
