Earmagination is a collective of ambitious and creative professionals with a single purpose: to produce great theatre of the mind. Rooted in the tradition of radio plays from the last century, Earmagination creates brave new works for the modern age. Using digital tools to bring together actors, writers and producers, Earmagination creates podcasts and audio dramas for audiences around the world via the internet. Created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Earmagination focused on audio drama delivered through podcasts to eliminate the necessity of physical distancing measures and gathering limits. Today,Earmagination helps support arts professionals through special initiatives and projects and continues to create employment and sustain individuals in the performong arts. WARNING: CERTAIN PORTIONS OF THIS DRAMA REFLECT THE MORES OF THE 18TH CENTURY. REFERENCES TO INDIGENOUS PEOPLE MAY BE MISCONSTRUED AS RACIST AND, SINCE LIFTED DIRECTLY FROM JEWITT’S PERSONAL JOURNAL, SHOULD BE KEPT IN CONTEXT WITH THE TIME. Over the last two years Earmagination's main focus has been the writing and creating of an historical event from the early history of Canada.The serialized audio drama THE TAKING is based on the true-life experience of John Jewitt, one of only two survivors of the crew of The Boston and who spent 28 months as a captive of powerful chief Maquinna of the Nuu-chah-nulth (Nootka) people on what is now the British Columbia Coast. It is the true story of a young man’s longing for adventure at sea that turns into a nightmare of struggle and survival. The script, adapted from Jewitt’s actual journal and adapted for audio, is performed by a cast of professional actors who have generously donated their talents to support the work of Earmagination. A special shoutout to award-winnig Dale Baglo for his inspiring music written especially for this project.
