Welcome to The TJArtsCast. Episode 17. It's our History special. This month, hosts Dawn Walters and Jay Suszynski welcome the TJ Pod to great a conversation with Dr. Carleton Young. Some listeners will recognize Dr. Young as the much loved AP History teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School. Dr. Young received his doctorate from The University of Pittsburgh and has taught at many Pittsburgh-area institutions of higher learning. For our history special, Dr. Young shares his book VOICES FROM THE ATTIC, a Civil War era story of two Vermont brothers who wrote more than 250 letters to their family at home from the front lines of the war. Dr. Young tells the story of how he came to discover the letters and how his retirement project of more than 10 years was a labor of love. Jessica Peconi-Cook has this month's City Snapshot from the Heinz History Center in downtown Pittsburgh as she talks with the Center's Events Manager and TJ alum, Angie Gaitaniella-Ford. Julia Malecki has our Big Picture report from Washington, D.C. with a special long-distance phone-in from Nashville, Tennessee. Julia talks to the ladies of the talented band, THE STEEL BLOSSOMS. All this and more on this month's TJ ArtsCast.
