Alison Smart and the Alliance to Protect Insulin Choice are asking Novo Nordisk to slow down the discontinuation of Levemir (detemir) insulin until a biosimilar is widely available. She educates about the differences between Levemir (detemir) and the two remaining basal insulins (glargine insulins and degludec), and why it is essential this unique insulin stays obtainable.

Allison shares about how she manages her daughter's type 1 diabetes by following a low-carb, high-protein diet. This has helped her daughter maintain stable blood sugar levels and overall better health. Allison's family also follows this diet and they have become healthier as a result. They eat similar types of food to everyone else but make small changes to make them more diabetes-friendly. Allison's daughter has adjusted well to this lifestyle, and they still enjoy treats like root beer floats using sugar-free substitutes.

Alison is rallying support for her cause and advocating for the insulin to be kept on the market for the sake of those who rely on it for their health.
