EP 22- UNQC- Big Papa's BBQ SCA Comp Team in Arkansas and UNQC Update
First, a quick update about The Up North QueCast, what we have going on coming up this spring and we will be at the MN in May on June 14th recording an episode so stop in and say hi!
This interview gives us a great perspective into what it takes to be a winner in the SCA.
We talk with a friend, Frank Davis from Big Papa’s BBQ. He has been involved in the Food Service industry for much of his life. He was a restaurant manager, Food Service Director for the Georgia Department of Corrections and Juvenile Justice, and he owned his own restaurant. He first tried competition BBQ cooking when he was still living in Georgia and instantly enjoyed it. Frank and his family moved to Arkansas several years ago and he put his competition cooking on hold, but always longed to cook competitively again. One day about a year and a half ago a Facebook friend of his named Matthew VanVoltenberg suggested he should go check out the SCA Facebook page and the rest as they say is history.
Frank has been competing as Big Papa's BBQ in the SCA since September 2020, winning several contests and placing in the top 10 on multiple occasions. Big Papa's BBQ competed in the World Finals in Ft Worth, TX in March and finished 25th overall in the World. He has already qualified for next year's World's Finals.Wow what a cool story! I cannot wait to hear more from Big Papa Frank Davis!
