*leans against the wall with cool shades on* Hey kid, do you like Cryptids or weird happenings? Do you like The Adventure Zone: Amnesty and A Horror Borealis? What about a group of ttrpg players whose rapport is just *chefs kiss*? Think of The Weird like BuzzFeed Unsolved but they're right there in the field and also just gigantic horny idiots what do work for the government. But also hate cops.

An actual play with excellent sound design, music, and storytelling that borders on scripted audio fiction. With lovable, multi-faceted characters, skilled GMing, and an easy-to-follow MOTW-like system, The Weird is quality on every level. Awesome queer rep and a good balance of humor and horror. I'm a relative newbie to TTRPG podcasts, but this one grabbed me right away.

This podcast certainly hits the ground running. I was about two minutes in when someone had their throat slit by a demon, so naturally I grabbed my metaphorical popcorn and buckled down for a wild ride. Actual play podcasts are a particular favorite of mine, especially when I get introduced to new games or game styles. In this case, the team if co-hosts invented their own RPG based on popular titles and other gaming systems. That intrigued me right away, especially since I got major X-Files and The Adventure Zone: Amnesty vibes. The music—transitions, interludes, background, etc.—is top notch as well.

I'm doing my best to get all my friends into this so we can joke about it. You'll enjoy the story even if you're not super familiar with TTRPGs. Get ready for some really Weird situations and characters, all appropriately mysterious and spooky and hilariously ooky. And if you do love tabletop games - join their Patron and get the game!
