Welcome to the Wellness Whisperer Podcast.
0:03
We are here doing our second segment.
0:06
We had one on clean skincare.
0:08
Today we're talking about clean cosmetics
0:08
and I am delighted and very privileged to
0:12
have Brianna Salarno. Did I say that correct?
0:15
Did I say Salarno?
0:18
And she is a clean beauty expert and has
0:18
deep dived into the subject matter ever
0:22
since she was 15. And you can find her on Instagram.
0:26
Her handle is blessed holistic life.
0:30
So Brianna, tell us briefly, I mean, you
0:30
had your health issues and you made a
0:36
pivot. You had some gut issues.
0:39
You realized that your skin wasn't
0:39
healthy.
0:41
Tell us what happened and about your
0:41
pivot.
0:44
yeah. Cosmetics. Yeah, so way back then when I was 15 I was
0:45
obsessed with makeup.
0:49
I just loved cosmetics.
0:51
I loved all of that. What I didn't know was all the hidden
0:53
toxins in it.
0:56
So about four plus years ago during the
0:56
whole COVID thing.
1:02
I was living in Las Vegas, I was playing
1:02
poker, and I lived a very unhealthy
1:06
lifestyle. And I'd always just honestly been pretty
1:07
unhealthy my whole life, up and down, I
1:12
would say. Never, I'd be like, oh, I'm working out,
1:13
I'm eating healthy, and then right back to
1:18
whatever I was doing. So when the shutdown happened, everyone
1:19
was kind of like, oh, we're gonna start
1:25
baking, like COVID-15, all this stuff, and
1:25
I was like, you know what?
1:28
I'm gonna do the opposite. I'm gonna get healthy, I'm gonna like
1:30
learn about my health like once and for
1:34
all. Like I feel like crap, let me figure out
1:34
why.
1:38
And it's crazy to say that my journey
1:38
started with this, but I did a parasite
1:45
cleanse and it changed my life.
1:49
I had like 15, right? I had like 15 out of the 30 symptoms and I
1:51
was just like, hold on, I did a cleanse
1:57
and not the best one. I just grabbed whatever one.
2:00
Mm-hmm. In like two weeks, I was like, I saw
2:00
something and I was like, that's it.
2:04
I'm this I'm done because all my symptoms,
2:04
I was like, this isn't normal.
2:09
Like I shouldn't be having this my whole
2:09
life.
2:12
And so did a deep dive on that.
2:15
Went down the rabbit hole and then I
2:15
learned about ingredients and our food.
2:20
And then I went down the rabbit hole and
2:20
learned about cosmetics and all the toxins
2:24
and that, and I was like, okay, enough's
2:24
enough.
2:28
So I completely changed my lifestyle,
2:28
which opened up Blessed Holistic Life.
2:33
And yeah, I've been learning about it ever
2:33
since.
2:37
It's been crazy. Ha ha. Well, I applaud you, number one.
2:40
The pandemic was the worst thing we've
2:40
ever went through probably as a society.
2:44
And it was a big downer, mental
2:44
health-wise, and just everything.
2:50
And you used it as a catalyst to transform
2:50
your life.
2:53
So what a wonderful way to use that excess
2:53
time we had for the good.
3:00
And now you're using that to teach other
3:00
people how to be healthier, too.
3:04
So I applaud you for that. Thank you so much.
3:07
So we're going to talk about, now we know
3:07
that you had your tummy issues, you did a
3:11
parasite cleanse, you cleaned up your
3:11
entire beauty regimen, and yeah, it's a
3:18
very dirty field.
3:21
I mean cosmetic and beauty is what, like a
3:21
$20 billion industry, and they're the
3:27
largest purchasers of petrochemicals that
3:27
go into the beauty products.
3:32
And I learned all this too, because I went
3:32
to the ER in 2016.
3:35
over to you. I'm going to turn it over to you.
3:38
Oh. that I put on my neck that had
3:39
phenoxylethanol in it, the preservative
3:44
that has respiratory, it's cited for
3:44
respiratory danger.
3:51
And it was very scary. So I started cleaning my makeup regimen
3:53
too, but it's such a process.
3:57
There's just so much out there to
3:57
research.
4:03
Awesome. I don't know. I don And for someone like me, don't do what I
4:07
did.
4:10
I did like a whole overnight switch and
4:10
I'm like a very all or nothing person.
4:14
And I really went down the rabbit hole.
4:17
So I would recommend starting with a
4:17
product that like you're running out of.
4:21
So if you're running out of your
4:21
hairspray, that's the next product you
4:25
find a non-toxic replacement for.
4:28
But I'm so sorry to hear that you had that
4:28
kind of scare.
4:32
Yeah, it was a wake-up call.
4:34
And at the time, I was single, living at
4:34
home, and I didn't even have time to call
4:38
an ambulance or a taxi because I'm like, I
4:38
can't breathe.
4:42
I have to get to the hospital now.
4:44
So yeah, this is an important topic that
4:44
we shouldn't take for granted.
4:48
It was funny, my husband was saying, oh,
4:48
you're getting so over the top with this
4:52
holistic health stuff. My mother never looked at her cosmetic,
4:54
what was inside, and she lived in 97.
5:00
Well, that's not an indicator.
5:02
the body was well. She also had some cancers and some issues
5:03
and I know that breast cancer is something
5:08
that can derive from all the hormonal
5:08
disruptions happening if you're using the
5:13
wrong chemicals that are in the makeups
5:13
and products.
5:15
So it's an important topic.
5:19
So tell us your favorite products that you
5:19
use perhaps on a daily, your go-to's for
5:26
your eyes, your foundation, your lips,
5:26
just go through the whole face.
5:31
Yeah, totally. I will say, like even back then with our
5:32
parents generation, like things were way
5:38
less toxic back then. Like, we had a whole different lifestyle
5:39
as people.
5:43
We didn't have social media. We went out, we ate real whole foods.
5:47
Our cosmetics and some things weren't as
5:47
bad as they are now.
5:50
Like, today it's like they just keep on
5:50
adding more and you look around and you're
5:55
like, well yeah, of course everyone's
5:55
sick.
5:57
Like, look at what we're eating. Look at what...
6:00
we're putting on our body, look at what
6:00
we're ingesting.
6:02
It's just, it's crazy.
6:05
So, and yeah, and still, you still get
6:05
these little like cancers or hormonal
6:10
problems. There's always something nowadays when
6:11
back then, it really wasn't like that.
6:15
That's a good point, Brianna, because I
6:15
remember looking, walking into my
6:18
grandma's kitchen, and she didn't have
6:18
Fritos and Doritos and cheese dip in a
6:23
bottle. It was what was coming straight in from,
6:24
you know, bringing a chicken choppets set
6:28
up, put it in the pan. It was a different world.
6:31
And we were always getting fresh air. We weren't on social media.
6:34
We were out chasing the cats and the dogs
6:34
and playing.
6:39
It's not the same. being present and we were being
6:40
stress-free.
6:42
It wasn't constant over-stimulation
6:45
I would go back any time of the day.
6:49
too. I'm right there with you. I'm like, I remember when holidays felt
6:50
like holidays and everything wasn't so
6:55
curated and we were just like present and
6:55
loving like now every day everyone's on
7:00
their phone and I'm just like, like I love
7:00
it and I hate it.
7:03
So it's like, it's, it's so tough.
7:06
Um, when it comes to clean beauty, for me,
7:06
what I realized when I was looking at
7:18
There's not a lot of people that look like
7:18
me and that have my skin type or like love
7:23
a full glam, like everyday look, like
7:23
putting on makeup to go play volleyball,
7:27
guilty, but you know. So when I kind of create blessed holistic
7:29
life, I was like, let me just do all this
7:35
research, let me review all these products
7:35
and then help others find that.
7:38
Because in our kind of non-toxic
7:38
community, a lot of people are like, this
7:44
is non-toxic, this is non-toxic, and then
7:44
all of a sudden you buy 20 products.
7:48
and you're like, okay, maybe one works for
7:48
me.
7:51
And I don't know, like, your skin tone's
7:51
different or your skin type's different.
7:55
So it's a lot of like trial and error and
7:55
I feel like I'm very grateful that I
8:03
tested a lot. So feel grateful to have done all the work
8:04
before sharing it.
8:10
But yeah, I'd love to go over some of my
8:10
favorite products.
8:14
Which one do you wanna start with? What would you, you go, you knock through
8:16
it because you're, you're the expert and
8:20
you do look great. And it's wonderful to look at you and know
8:21
that you haven't, you know, jeopardize
8:26
your health by looking beautiful and
8:26
amping up your beauty.
8:31
So yeah, just. Oh my gosh, thank you.
8:34
Oh my god, thank you so much, it's so sweet. It's like, yeah, I just, I don't know, I
8:36
feel like there's a big stigma around
8:40
non-toxic beauty too. Like a lot of people are like, oh,
8:41
non-toxic, natural, or whatever, it's just
8:45
not as good. We're nowadays, back then, yes, maybe, but
8:46
now we're shifting and our stuff is high
8:53
quality and just as better as the
8:53
conventional stuff.
8:56
So it's been super exciting to find things
8:56
that like actually work and that you can
9:00
do full glam. a cat eye, bold mascara, bold lips, so
9:01
really fun stuff.
9:06
So I think I will start with my favorite
9:06
mascara and I'm going to reach into my
9:12
little bag and it's all dirty of course,
9:12
which is super fun.
9:17
But my favorite clean beauty mascara that
9:17
is non-toxic is the Ilia Beauty.
9:24
I love this one because of the brush.
9:28
So I don't know if you can see it, but the
9:28
brush,
9:32
It has a sort of like, they're a little
9:32
spaced more apart and then the top one is
9:36
spaced together and it is a little pricey,
9:36
it's $28.
9:40
But I would buy this till they run out of
9:40
it.
9:43
It just gives your lashes such length and
9:43
volume and I'm just obsessed.
9:50
So this is my go-to number one mascara
9:50
that I recommend, hands down.
9:54
The brush looks like a caterpillar. It looks like the little prickly, all
9:56
natural caterpillar brush.
10:02
Oh my gosh, I love that. An all natural calipiter brush, that's
10:04
great.
10:07
It's so good. And then they also have another one, a
10:08
more volumizing one.
10:13
And the brush is a little chunkier.
10:16
Yeah, I love a really good, I'll be
10:16
honest, I just love a lot of volume when
10:20
it comes to my mascara, so I'm just, I
10:20
can't get on.
10:24
I love it. So, Ilia Beauty, my two recommendations
10:24
for mascara.
10:28
Another one. um that I fell in love with too which is a
10:29
more affordable option is Exa Beauty.
10:39
and the brush kind of looks like this. So still big, a little clumpy, but not
10:41
clumpy, but it does add volume and length
10:48
at the same time. And how much would that brand be per tube?
10:53
Approximately. Approximately, I'm blanking.
10:57
I want to say I just added it to my
10:57
website on my shop.
11:01
So I'm totally blanking on it, but I want
11:01
to say anywhere from, I want to say it's
11:07
like maybe 24.
11:10
Don't quote me. I'll let you know.
11:13
Yeah, the important thing about picking
11:13
the correct mascara is you don't want it
11:17
to have tar petroleum in it, which I
11:17
learned from Aveda when I had a makeover
11:21
there that, you know, CoverGirl and all
11:21
the name brands that you get at any
11:25
walk-in pharmacy are pretty much petroleum
11:25
based products.
11:30
know, it's insane and it's like you're
11:30
putting that directly like right by your
11:35
eye and god forbid you like slip up.
11:38
It's going in there. I've seen videos and I've done it myself
11:39
when I put on eyeliner back then, like my
11:44
toxic L'Oreal eyeliner and it's going
11:44
right in my eye.
11:49
It stains my whole eye and I'm just like
11:49
I'm putting toxins literally in my
11:54
bloodstream. craziness that's craziness to me and it's
11:56
immediate it's
12:02
Now, while we're talking about eyelashes
12:02
and you have beautiful eyelashes, I used
12:06
to have beautiful eyelashes and as you age
12:06
they shrink.
12:09
So now I'm using castor oil trying to, you
12:09
know, pump those babies up.
12:14
I know a lot of women these days are, my
12:14
sister-in-law went and got the artificial
12:19
eyelashes glued on and every month she has
12:19
to go back and have them updated.
12:25
replenish but that's glue and that's
12:25
probably formaldehyde.
12:30
Do you have a stance on artificial lashes?
12:34
I know it's your choice, anyone's personal
12:34
choice.
12:37
it is and I do feel like in this
12:37
non-toxic, clean beauty wellness space, we
12:42
do need a little bit of balance.
12:44
I still get my roots done.
12:47
I'm look, I will say I am looking for a
12:47
non-toxic option, but I think if you go in
12:52
stages, there is a.
12:55
There is a, I haven't tried it, but there
12:55
is a clean non-formaldehyde, I think,
13:03
eyelash glue. It's called True Beauty Glue, True Beauty
13:04
Lashes.
13:07
And I wanna say they have a glue in
13:07
lashes.
13:09
But I think when it comes to, yeah, I
13:09
think when it comes to that, it's what are
13:13
you putting on your body every day?
13:16
Like, is it small doses or are all your
13:16
products fragrance, phenoxyethanol, like.
13:23
car like petroleum so i think maybe once
13:23
in a while you can do a couple of that of
13:28
like my lashes for your big reunion or your
13:28
wedding or your special.
13:33
It's not a big deal for me. Lipsticks are a big deal.
13:35
I live for lipstick. So I have to really put my job out because
13:36
of the lead and that.
13:41
it, essentially. Like, if I'm gonna grab my coffee, I'm
13:42
eating my lip liner.
13:47
I hope it's non-toxic. Yeah.
13:54
Oh, yes, so I'm currently using, it's
13:54
called Well People.
14:01
I am, I'm not phasing them out of what I
14:01
recommend, but I will say that this is
14:05
probably the only palette that I do
14:05
recommend, and it is affordable.
14:10
You can get it at Target. This is their old packaging, and I have
14:11
gone through so many.
14:15
But another brand that I really love, and
14:15
I think, actually I know you would love
14:19
this brand. So I work with her, her name's Lauren
14:20
Brooke.
14:24
She's in Utah. She's 100% organic makeup and skincare.
14:28
So literally everything you could eat, you
14:28
just don't want to.
14:31
But she makes these amazing eye shadows.
14:34
And so I have some pressed ones coming.
14:36
I do have some of her cream shadows.
14:39
She does everything. So her lipstick and lip liners, you would
14:41
love.
14:43
And I'm getting ahead of myself because
14:43
I'm talking about it, but she is fabulous.
14:48
And I think super affordable, especially
14:48
with the quality of her products.
14:54
You just, you can't get any better. And she makes it all, it's all non-toxic,
14:56
all organic.
14:59
You can't find that nowadays for things
14:59
that actually work.
15:02
So this is one of her cream eyeshadows.
15:05
This is the cream eyeshadow, Seraphina.
15:09
It was beautiful. Oh, I love that.
15:13
I love that. Got to get some.
15:16
Yeah, I wasn't going to go buy anything
15:16
until after this interview because I knew
15:19
I'd be on the list. I'm like, okay, I'm going to pick that up
15:20
and pick that up.
15:23
I got you girl. I got it all in my shop with the discount
15:24
code so you don't worry But for real like
15:28
she makes gorgeous colors without the lake
15:28
dyes, so there's no heavy metals
15:34
I love that. Yeah, so I'm obsessed with her eye
15:34
products as well.
15:38
Her pressed eyeshadows are great.
15:40
I like the shades Tahiti, there's the
15:40
taupe, and then teak.
15:45
So I like very like neutral kind of
15:45
browns.
15:51
Yeah. And then a different brand that I've been
15:52
falling in love with is it's called Beauty
15:59
Care Naturals. She is actually a naturopath.
16:04
who created this, her makeup brand.
16:08
And she was like, I want to make clean
16:08
beauty affordable and clean and
16:12
transparent. And I don't want it to cost an arm and a
16:13
leg.
16:16
And her stuff works. She is like her whole page, her aesthetic,
16:18
she's just amazing.
16:22
I could talk about it all day. But so for her, this is her eyeliner.
16:28
And in our clean beauty world, it is so
16:28
hard to find a felt tip.
16:33
non-toxic eyeliner without phenoxyethanol.
16:36
Look at that. So pigmented.
16:41
Oh, wonderful. the tar, without the petroleum.
16:46
And she just makes the best products and
16:46
I'm such like a cat eye kind of person.
16:51
I always need my eyeliner. And when I found her, I was like, it's
16:53
done.
16:57
Like I cannot go a day without this.
17:00
And she sells out in seconds.
17:03
I have to buy like two or three now
17:03
because everyone's so obsessed.
17:07
That's an endorsement that it's good
17:07
stuff.
17:10
Oh my gosh, it's so good. I've put so many of my followers on
17:11
because we've all been looking for it.
17:15
And I'm like, I just found the holy grail
17:15
in the clean beauty community.
17:20
No one does a felt tip liner. That's actually good and stays on all day.
17:23
So super excited about that.
17:26
I'm like, that's probably my number one
17:26
like thing I've been looking for years
17:31
since I started this account. Go ahead and mention your shopping cart or
17:32
where people would find your list of, if
17:37
you didn't just say it, I'll put it in my
17:37
show notes after this, but go ahead and
17:40
just spit it out now in case it jumps off.
17:43
Thank you. Yeah. So I created a link dolly.
17:46
So in my bio, it's my shop of my personal
17:46
faves and recommendations.
17:52
So if you're I wanted to keep it very
17:52
what's the word I'm looking for?
17:58
Sorry, I have ADHD. So that's always fun.
18:01
I wanted to keep it a small it's like a
18:01
clean catalog with not too many
18:06
recommendations. So yes.
18:11
Thank you. Yeah, something that I've personally tried
18:11
or I'm a fan of the brand, I've heard
18:16
amazing things, it's going in my shop.
18:18
If I haven't tried it and it's non-toxic,
18:18
that's amazing, but I want to know what's
18:23
in my shop. And a lot of people just add all this
18:24
non-toxic stuff like, yeah, buy this,
18:28
check that, and I'm like, I don't want to
18:28
recommend anything if I haven't tried it.
18:32
So, yeah, I don't know if it's good.
18:34
So... It's something that you can get in my link
18:36
in bio. I'll send you the little link It's linked
18:37
Ollie blessed holistic life and you can go
18:41
through it so it has clean candles it has
18:41
clean makeup household products There's
18:50
even like my favorite clean protein bars
18:52
out. It's eight pages. So I already have it here, but I'll
18:53
definitely be sharing it with our
18:56
listeners. I love it. I love that it's not too much.
18:59
But definitely cover the realm of being a
18:59
woman on these eight pages.
19:04
So thank you. so much for that.
19:07
I feel like it's, when you come to this
19:07
non-toxic, clean beauty lifestyle, it can
19:12
be so overwhelming.
19:15
And you're just like, what do I start
19:15
with?
19:17
What do I buy? Someone's saying this mascara, someone's
19:19
saying that mascara, and it's like, I
19:23
don't know. So I try to keep the options limited to
19:24
things that I personally love and just
19:28
kind of make it this clean catalog and
19:28
beginner's guide for someone.
19:33
for essentially myself when I started.
19:35
I needed that and I didn't have that so I
19:35
was like, oh.
19:38
Yeah, and what drew me to you as a person,
19:38
I just clicked with you.
19:43
I felt like I knew you already just
19:43
looking at your Instagram feed, but I like
19:46
that you have the variety that you weren't
19:46
just advocating for one product line.
19:52
There was a lot of people that are beauty
19:52
bloggers out there and all they talk about
19:56
is beauty counter. I mean, it's one item or laurel and it's
19:57
not diversified and you know that there's
20:03
better stuff. So I like that you've really taken the
20:04
time to vet.
20:07
you know, dozens and dozens and dozens of
20:07
product lines to find what are your
20:11
favorites and put it on shopping list.
20:14
So good for you. much for that.
20:17
I agree. You get on social media and this
20:18
influencer life and everyone's like, oh, I
20:23
love crunchy. I love beauty counter. I love this.
20:26
And not everyone has the same skin.
20:29
Not everyone. What works for you may not work for me.
20:33
And I never want to be just a part of
20:33
something.
20:37
honestly kind of manipulate people. I feel like that's been a big thing in our
20:39
industry lately is just like, oh my gosh,
20:43
this is amazing. You need this or fear tactics and all this
20:44
stuff.
20:47
And it's like, no, like there's a many,
20:47
like there's so many amazing products and
20:51
so many amazing small businesses and
20:51
companies, but one size doesn't fit all.
20:57
And sometimes you have to cherry pick. Like I love certain brands, but not all
20:58
their products are clean.
21:02
But there's a couple that are, that meet
21:02
our standards and.
21:06
That's going on the website and I've tried
21:06
it and it's fabulous.
21:09
I never want to promote something I don't
21:09
personally love and use.
21:13
And I've made that very like I've said
21:13
that on my page.
21:17
Like I just I won't. I've turned down a lot.
21:20
Yeah, you're very clear on your web page
21:20
that you're absolutely transparent and
21:24
you're doing this for the good of the
21:24
world and you have a Christian belief and
21:30
it's very rare to find someone with all
21:30
those attributes at once.
21:33
But I have a question. I love that you have a shopping list that
21:34
people can go to your Instagram page and
21:38
print it off just like I did and kind of
21:38
go through and try things and check
21:42
pricing. But what's confusing to me is if you clean
21:43
up your diet,
21:47
You can go to Sprouts, Whole Foods, Whole
21:47
Grocers, and you know that all those
21:53
products in those stores are wholesome and
21:53
vetted.
21:57
That's really not possible in the beauty
21:57
world.
21:59
You can't necessarily walk into an Ulta or
21:59
Sephora or a Dillard's or anywhere and
22:07
know that you're buying safe makeup
22:07
products.
22:12
Is that correct? I feel like it's so hard.
22:16
hard because even in Whole Foods Sephora
22:16
Altitude, they'll put like, oh, this is so
22:20
clean. Here's a label. And then you turn it around and you're
22:22
like, okay, well, there's undisclosed
22:26
fragrance in here, phenoxyethanol.
22:28
What else are you hiding with just like
22:28
this label?
22:31
And I really feel like stores have really
22:31
upped their marketing game by saying like,
22:38
this is green, this is clean, this is
22:38
non-toxic.
22:41
And for people who don't know, they're
22:41
like, oh my gosh, yes, let me grab it.
22:46
And then people like us, we turn around
22:46
and we're like, oh, nope, like it's not
22:51
cutting it, so. Yeah, I remember back in 2016 when I first
22:53
started really going and looking at
22:58
things. And I'd have to bring a magnifying glass
22:59
into the store because the type on the
23:03
back of this. like four point, five point, what we call
23:04
in the market world, mice type.
23:08
And you couldn't read it. They don't want you to read it.
23:11
And now we have apps like the Skin Deep
23:11
and the Yucca and all the different apps.
23:19
This man was looking at me at Target the
23:19
other day because I was scanning
23:23
everything. I was like beep and then I was taking
23:23
notes in my purse.
23:27
I think he thought I was a spy from
23:27
Russia.
23:29
But I really just wanted to know it was
23:29
clean and I left with nothing.
23:34
I'm sorry. Pretty sad.
23:36
I'm like, okay, I'll just wait to talk to
23:36
Brianna and get this figured out tomorrow.
23:41
Yeah, right. I have an app recommendation for you that
23:42
I think is so amazing.
23:46
So she was a huge person that helped me on
23:46
my Clean Beauty journey.
23:52
Her name is Andrea. She's Switch Natural.
23:55
So she has an app called Switch Natural
23:55
approved.
23:58
I'll send you her link. I am one of her affiliates.
24:00
So I will say I will be transparent of
24:00
that.
24:03
But I stand behind this app like no other.
24:08
I do the same thing you do. I Constantly pull out my phone.
24:12
I scan it. I upload it I screenshot and it'll flag it
24:13
and then it tells you why and that's what
24:19
I love because it'll flag Phenoxyethanol
24:19
add all the data and all that and you're
24:24
like, oh Okay Perfect.
24:28
Now I know why and so it's been a game
24:28
changer.
24:31
I went to Cosmoprof a couple years back
24:31
and last year
24:37
I felt terrible, but I took that app and
24:37
I'm scanning everything and people would
24:41
be like, oh, have this. And before I'd say yes, I'd scan it.
24:43
And then I'd be like, I'm okay.
24:46
I'm like, thank you. I can't.
24:49
And for someone like me with my brain, I
24:49
will say I'm very ADD, ADHD, and I just,
24:56
sometimes I will truly forget. And I'll mix up my words and I'm like, I
24:58
don't know what I'm doing.
25:02
And then I scan it and I'm like, oh, okay,
25:02
cool.
25:05
I'm good. And so it's been so, so helpful and so
25:06
easy.
25:11
And it's nice to have that because you
25:11
don't want to be fooled by the marketing
25:15
or the packaging or the sales rep or the
25:15
distributor that's really going to get a
25:21
commission. You want to know for sure.
25:24
So that's, I look forward to that to try
25:24
that one out too.
25:27
I do want to say too, I'm doing research
25:27
for this segment.
25:33
I was wondering if there was the good
25:33
housekeeping seal for makeup, and the
25:37
closest thing to the good housekeeping
25:37
seal is the Made Safe Seal, which means
25:42
that the product, the cosmetic, has went
25:42
through a certification process to ensure
25:48
that the ingredients inside will not harm
25:48
you.
25:52
So if you're... like Breonna and myself and on this
25:54
wellness holistic journey, look for the
25:58
Made Safe Seal. And it's pretty new, so not a lot of
26:00
companies are going to have it yet, but
26:05
I'm glad that someone's looking out for
26:05
us.
26:08
Right? I feel like we've really come a long way
26:09
in the past five years.
26:15
I feel like there are so many stories and
26:15
so many whys of why people are switching
26:20
over and they're just getting fed up. They're like, enough's enough.
26:22
And I mean, look at Europe. They ban everything and anything and the
26:24
US is like, that's fine.
26:28
We're okay. Like it's not going to hurt you, but look
26:29
around the US and you're like,
26:34
everything's literally killing us. I know, it's crazy.
26:38
Yeah, when I started this channel, The
26:38
Wellness Whisperer, I'm like, I'll have an
26:42
endless number of people to talk to
26:42
because there's just so many topics that
26:45
we need to turn around to feel better and
26:45
to get better and to live quality lives,
26:51
not just long lives, but actually feel
26:51
good.
26:54
So I'm sorry, I've interrupted. So we've talked about.
26:57
no, I could talk about this all day.
27:00
foundation because I need some new
27:00
foundation.
27:03
I've been using Laura Geller's mineral
27:03
powder.
27:08
I think it has some bad stuff in it.
27:10
Okay, well that's funny that you said that. So I'm actually wearing a mineral powder
27:12
right now.
27:16
So it's called the Good Mineral.
27:19
I met her online a long time ago.
27:21
And it's kind of like a bare minerals, but
27:21
it's all mineral and it's acne safe.
27:27
So yeah, so whenever I have a huge
27:27
breakout like I do right now, my skin is
27:33
not cooperating. I put this on and I feel good knowing that
27:35
my skin's not so heavy and just trapped
27:41
and all gross, but it still gives me the
27:41
coverage.
27:44
She has a foundation, she has bronzers,
27:44
highlighters, blushes, all clean, all
27:51
non-toxic, all acne safe and mineral.
27:56
It's super pigmented. And then on top of that, she has the best
27:57
brushes in the world.
28:04
Like look how pretty and cute those are! They're so fluffy and ready to and clean.
28:09
I just washed my hands today. Yes.
28:11
I have to wash my brushes, they're gross.
28:14
They're so bad. But they're just so soft and it just all
28:15
goes together.
28:19
So it's like you just throw it on and you
28:19
just take the mineral foundation, you take
28:25
the flat top brush, dip it in, tap, and
28:25
you're good to go.
28:31
And it stays on all day.
28:34
I mean, I literally can play volleyball in
28:34
it, work up a sweat.
28:38
be all nasty and I'm like oh I'm super
28:38
glowy I'm so good so
28:42
teammates have to hate you. They're like, why do you wear makeup?
28:47
I'm like, why do you not wear makeup? No, I just, I love it.
28:50
I love full glam, I love makeup.
28:54
Other foundations that I love, so clover
28:54
by clove, skin is in serum foundation.
29:00
This is another acne safe foundation.
29:04
This one's super affordable. I wanna say this one is $18.
29:09
It is, yeah, right?
29:12
It's buildable. It gives great coverage.
29:16
I do like probably one dot. You can blend it in, you can pack it in,
29:18
you can go over it.
29:21
It's just very... I do...
29:24
I don't have my organic fake tan on so
29:24
we're a little pale.
29:28
So, you know, but it just blends really
29:28
nice.
29:30
It's like a second skin. So the skin is in.
29:33
She's really good at that and the owner is
29:33
fantastic as well.
29:37
And then my other recommendation is the
29:37
Iliya Super Skin Tint.
29:42
Have you tried this one? happened. Okay, so this one is, it's an SPF 40.
29:48
It's more of like, I wouldn't call it like
29:48
super foundation.
29:52
I'd say it's like light to medium, but I
29:52
feel like you can build it and I do feel
29:56
like it covers well. Only thing is it is $48, but it is worth
29:57
it in my opinion.
30:03
It's very glowy, so I would note that.
30:08
But it is nice, yeah.
30:11
Yeah. bit of a long ways. I'm into places more.
30:15
I'm not into the building anymore. I'm like, just get an even tone going and
30:16
hit the street.
30:19
Yeah, you're like, I'm good. Yeah, so probably, yeah, this would be
30:21
probably well, all of them were pretty
30:25
good. You can, and that's what I like about this
30:25
one too, because you can just add, or you
30:29
can just one dot all over.
30:31
You're good. Yeah.
30:34
Yeah. All those, the one that has the sunscreen
30:34
on it is the clove.
30:38
Do all of them? Mm-hmm. so the Ilya is a $48 one.
30:41
This is on the website too, and it's the
30:41
SPF 40.
30:44
So it does have sunscreen in it. I think you would like this one.
30:46
It's a very dewy, glowy one.
30:48
The Clover does not have sunscreen in it.
30:52
Yeah, setting powder.
30:55
I've tried a lot of setting powder, and I
30:55
was a huge fan.
30:58
I don't know if you're familiar with Vapor
30:58
Beauty.
31:01
They were an amazing, clean beauty
31:01
company.
31:04
Everything was clean. Unfortunately, they closed down,
31:07
No. Crashed it.
31:10
Oh yeah. it was crushing to the beauty world.
31:12
There was so many good brands that just
31:12
closed down.
31:15
I was just like, oh! They had an amazing foundation, an amazing
31:16
setting powder, amazing loose power, so we
31:23
love you and we miss you, Vapor Beauty. It was just so sad, so.
31:26
a competitive industry. I mean, there's so many choices.
31:29
So I can understand someone not making it.
31:31
Yeah, and as small businesses, you don't
31:31
have that budget like these big companies
31:36
that are owned by Johnson & Johnson and
31:36
this and that.
31:39
And it's like, they have all that
31:39
marketing money.
31:42
They can lose whatever they want and they
31:42
don't care.
31:45
And these... I'm a marketer and I watched a program
31:46
today on Google how Aveda during the
31:51
pandemic launched this huge top of funnel
31:51
advertising campaign on YouTube and how
31:58
they just like doubled their sales.
32:00
But not everyone has the money to do that,
32:00
right?
32:02
I mean that had to cost a half a million
32:02
dollars to put that program together.
32:06
So yeah, I feel sorry for your company
32:06
that went belly up.
32:13
It is. It's so, it's just, it's a reminder to
32:13
definitely shop small and to support these
32:19
businesses that stay true to their clean,
32:19
non-toxic ingredients and that don't get
32:24
bought out and that don't change their
32:24
stuff.
32:27
There's so many companies now that they
32:27
were clean and non-toxic and then they
32:32
sold out and then these little switches
32:32
are coming and it's hard because you've
32:36
used it forever and then you turn it
32:36
around again and you're like, wait, when
32:39
did they add that? Yeah.
32:42
All right. Can we talk lips? Yes, let's do it.
32:46
Let's talk lip. So lipstick.
32:49
Since you're a lipstick girlie, I am,
32:49
believe it or not, a, I'm a lip liner
32:54
girlie. So I wear lip liner as a lipstick because
32:54
I feel like it stays on longer.
32:59
It's something I've always done and I love
32:59
it.
33:01
But lipstick wise, definitely Lauren
33:01
Brooke, 100% organic.
33:06
You could eat it. You'd be fine.
33:09
And her colors are incredible. Her lip liners.
33:12
are absolutely gorgeous and affordable.
33:16
Her lip glazes, oh her lip glazes, they're
33:16
like this pigmented, it's almost like a
33:25
mix between a gloss and a very, that's why
33:25
they call it glaze, it's like a very
33:31
pigmented gloss. and they're gorgeous.
33:37
And so I just, over my lip liner, I just
33:37
add a little bit, adds a little color,
33:43
adds a little pop. I love that it has color because I did buy
33:44
some lip tint from Honest and it just
33:49
didn't have any color. I mean, I put it on, I'm like, I look,
33:50
yeah, I can't see it.
33:54
I want to see it. Exactly and I think you should be able to
33:55
see it.
33:58
Especially if you're spending the money. You should be happy with your purchase and
33:59
see it. And she does do samples which is nice too.
34:04
Yeah, she's fabulous. And then lipsticks, I would definitely say
34:06
100% pure.
34:10
She has fabulous colors. They're very, very pigmented.
34:16
So I would, like if you love your
34:16
lipsticks and you love a full on lipstick,
34:21
100% pure. They have some sort.
34:24
Sometimes they have some restocking
34:24
issues, but you gotta get it when they
34:27
have it because they have such a good
34:27
turnout.
34:30
Like they're red, very pigmented, and they
34:30
use fruit pigments.
34:35
Yeah. I wanted to get your opinions as we kind
34:37
of went through the makeup and people can
34:41
go and get your curated list off of your
34:41
site.
34:48
You turned me on to that documentary that
34:48
HBO Max did, Not So Pretty, the four
34:55
series documentary. It's on your website.
34:57
You talk about it. I have not seen it but I went to watch the
34:59
trailer on YouTube.
35:03
Did you get a lot out of that series? Because they covered what's not
35:05
transparent with makeup, shampoos, nails,
35:11
and I forget the fourth bucket. Yeah, that was, I won't lie to you, that
35:13
was a very long time ago and I have very
35:18
severe memory loss. I am like, I think I got, yeah, it was
35:20
like a big thing in our world that like,
35:25
it was finally like someone's talking
35:25
about it, someone's doing the research and
35:30
a little overwhelming because it was, it
35:30
was like nails, beauty, this, that and
35:34
you're just like, okay wait, everything
35:34
I've been using is.
35:39
completely toxic. So definitely if you have the chance to
35:40
see it, see it, but also remember to not
35:47
stress. That is really big.
35:50
Like for me, like I've in the past couple
35:50
years, I want to say I have been really
35:56
focusing on this is so off topic, I
35:56
apologize.
36:01
I just have been really focusing on
36:01
balance and joy with education.
36:08
I feel like our clean beauty wellness space has taken
36:09
a really big turn for honestly a lot of
36:15
stress. And you get online and everything's toxic
36:16
nowadays and you can't use this and you
36:21
gotta use that and you gotta do this and I
36:21
really feel like more people need to talk
36:24
about slowly transitioning and please do
36:24
the opposite of what I did.
36:29
I'm all or nothing overnight person so
36:29
it's like I'm like oh my gosh no but in
36:35
the past couple years I've seen the toll
36:35
it's taken on me.
36:38
my followers and I've been really talking
36:38
to a lot of people and it's like education
36:44
is amazing but you also need to look at
36:44
and I'm not saying this about the
36:49
documentary I'm just getting off topic but
36:49
also follow people that you can trust and
36:55
follow people that aren't trying to like
36:55
sell you every little bit of like
37:00
everything like oh my gosh this is toxic
37:00
this is killing you but hey buy this.
37:04
use this and they're like solely a brand
37:04
ambassador for that.
37:07
So and I think we've touched base on that
37:07
but I would definitely with watching
37:12
documentaries like that make sure you're
37:12
in a right place and if you feel like you
37:18
are self researching and learning slowly
37:18
by yourself and slowly just taking your
37:26
toxic burden down do it like that.
37:29
Sometimes documentaries like that can be
37:29
stressful.
37:32
I know myself like I am a huge researcher rabbit hole and
37:33
I'll get in there and I'm like, oh my
37:38
gosh, this is amazing. And then I'm like paranoid.
37:42
Now, I'm so glad that you said that, and
37:42
that's another light that you bring to the
37:46
space that I was attracted to, that you're
37:46
just so honest and that the fact that
37:50
you're seeking joy in education and kind
37:50
of pushing back on all the negativity,
37:56
because we don't need that either.
37:58
We're trying to be healthy and live a
37:58
long, wonderful, joyous life.
38:03
But I will say about the documentary, I
38:03
went and watched another beauty person's
38:09
take on it. Okay. Thank you. Muffin Beauty Science.
38:14
She's a scientist. She's the one that's in the labs making
38:15
the products for the companies and she
38:20
said yes documentaries can be very
38:20
fear-based.
38:23
They're movie makers. They have to have that climax and that
38:25
drama in order to sell the production.
38:30
So yeah get the education out of it but
38:30
remember to go look at your own research
38:37
and you're right there's always going
38:41
who's trying to partner with you and make
38:41
your life better.
38:46
And they're out there too, which is why
38:46
you get such a huge following.
38:50
I mean, people see that in you and yeah.
38:53
Yeah. Thank you. That's so sweet.
38:55
Thank you. Oh my gosh. I just think I think I as an influencer
38:57
and stuff, too it's like it's hard to It's
39:06
hard because it's like fear cells and a
39:06
lot of people don't tell you that and so
39:11
these big Influencers who are constantly
39:11
pushing this fear and this fear and fear
39:15
there are people with different brain
39:15
types and different nervous systems and
39:21
different life and lifestyles
39:23
and it can be so overwhelming and
39:23
consuming and detrimental.
39:28
And if you have OCD and you're watching
39:28
this video, it can be like insane.
39:33
And I know myself and I'm like, I watch
39:33
one video and all of a sudden I'm freaking
39:38
out and I'm like, Brianna, like chill out.
39:40
And so I've tried to be as transparent
39:40
about that as possible because it's like,
39:46
no one is perfect. No one can live in a hundred percent
39:47
non-toxic life.
39:51
Like just because I don't wear
39:51
conventional non-perfume doesn't mean the
39:55
person next to me isn't. I'm still inhaling their perfume and I'm
39:56
like, oh, and I have a headache, but I
40:01
think it needs to be talked about more. Like there are cleaner options for
40:03
everyone in just making these small
40:08
changes and these small steps.
40:10
You're reducing your toxin load and that's
40:10
better than nothing.
40:14
We live in a world that is so toxic today
40:14
and you have to do what's best for you.
40:19
Right, especially because the more you
40:19
absorb that, I know with me, I've had
40:24
leaky gut, and then you become even more
40:24
sensitive to what you're putting on your
40:28
body, and you get hives, and you get
40:28
rashes, and it's just a signal to clean it
40:33
up, sister. You need to, you know, do your 30-day
40:35
cleanse and really just back off the
40:39
stuff. But you're right, we live in a very toxic
40:39
world, and we just have to be aware of
40:44
that. And... and make some better choices.
40:47
So I'm glad we had this discussion. I'm glad that my cat parked over here to
40:49
be the perfect little backdrop.
40:52
She's such a diva.
40:54
That's popcorn back there. Ha ha.
40:58
I love that name popcorn is one of my
40:58
favorite foods in the world so I'm like I
41:02
love that. Oh my goodness.
41:04
She wants to be right in the middle of the screen. Is there anything else that we didn't talk
41:06
about?
41:08
I know I'll put everything that I can in
41:08
the show notes and links to you and your
41:13
Instagram and Twitter and TikTok pages and
41:13
whatnot and some of these reports that
41:19
I've held up randomly so people can go and
41:19
read them themselves.
41:23
Anything else you want to end with,
41:23
Brianna?
41:25
Um, I'll end with some lip liners just
41:25
because I am a lip liner girlie.
41:31
Um, and yeah, so Fit Glow Beauty is an
41:31
amazing company.
41:36
Um, they also have these amazing lip
41:36
serums and great pigment, no lip dyes,
41:42
fabulous stuff. This is in their shade nude.
41:46
It's more pinky in my opinion.
41:49
Um, another great brand.
41:51
And I will say the international brands
41:51
are fabulous.
41:58
So many brands over there have the
41:58
strictest guidelines from the EU and they
42:02
just don't have anything. So I'd always say sometimes it's worth it
42:03
to pay the extra shipping because they're
42:07
just that good. I hadn't thought about that.
42:09
That's a great idea. Yeah, Air Perez.
42:12
So this is their Almond Brow Pencil and I
42:12
use it as a contour for my lip liner.
42:20
So it's this kind of cool tone brown and I
42:20
just contour my lips and pretend I have
42:26
huge lips and go in with a lip liner all
42:26
over.
42:29
Yeah and they have really good great lip
42:29
liners.
42:33
They also have these lip crayons.
42:35
Super pigmented, non-toxic, fabulous.
42:40
two other international brands that I
42:40
absolutely love.
42:43
OneFeed, they are a clean perfume, super
42:43
luxury.
42:47
She's an in-house perfume maker, so
42:47
everything's in-house, no synthetics ever,
42:52
almost all natural and organic, and she is
42:52
fabulous.
42:55
I've worked with her for a long time. Liz is an incredible woman.
42:59
She is just an amazing business owner, and
42:59
I just absolutely love her.
43:03
And she does body washes, laundry, clean
43:03
perfume, and she's just absolutely
43:08
fabulous. Then we have MG Naturals.
43:12
She's over in Australia as well and she
43:12
does titanium free dioxide makeup.
43:20
So sometimes titanium dioxide can get a
43:20
bad rep.
43:24
It's more of you want to avoid it in
43:24
powders where you can inhale it so or like
43:31
some sprays but other than that like it's
43:31
you're pretty much fine but she's
43:35
completely td free. and she has great eyeshadows, great
43:37
pigments, she has foundation, she has lip
43:41
glosses, she's everything. So.
43:44
Wonderful. So health-wise, you're in a good space
43:45
now.
43:47
You've got your issues.
43:50
Your parasites are gone. You know that you're using good products
43:51
and you seem perky and healthy.
43:55
So a good place for you.
43:57
Health is well.
44:00
I will say I'm still doing a couple
44:00
cleanses.
44:04
It's so funny, because I think for me, I
44:04
was so ridden with parasites.
44:08
I've gone through leaky gut. I might have leaky gut now.
44:11
I'm not really sure. And stress is a huge, oh, it's so bad.
44:17
And so I feel like I've done this now for
44:17
four years, and I'll like.
44:22
get on a cleanse, I'll have amazing
44:22
results, Candida's gone, parasites are
44:26
gone. And then before you know it, I have
44:27
another layer coming up and I'm like, oh
44:31
my gosh, but I think for someone like me,
44:31
I'm so susceptible to like bacteria and
44:37
stuff. Like I just know I'm compromised in that
44:37
department.
44:41
So I have to like work a little harder.
44:43
But other than that, my skin has never
44:43
looked better.
44:47
I mean, I look back at pictures from 10
44:47
years ago when I was wearing.
44:53
toxic makeup, like dousing myself in
44:53
Versace Bright Crystal, all this toxic
44:58
perfume, just layering on everything,
44:58
eating gluten, eating whatever I wanted.
45:04
And I look younger now than I did back
45:04
then.
45:08
My skin, yeah, my skin and my body is way
45:08
better and my health is better.
45:13
And so that's why I continue every day to
45:13
show up because I know what it's like to
45:18
feel like crap and I just, I can't.
45:21
I don't want to live like that anymore. I live like that for too long.
45:24
Like, I like this now.
45:26
I like feeling healthy. I like feeling like I'm in control of my
45:27
health and my body, so.
45:31
Yeah, and I'll just say to anyone
45:31
listening, if you're having any sort of
45:35
mystery symptoms or illnesses, find a good
45:35
integrative medicine, functional medicine
45:40
person that can really help you find out
45:40
what's going on and not just give you a
45:45
pill or a potion and push you out the
45:45
door.
45:47
They can do some testing, because they are
45:47
out there, and I'd be happy to give a
45:50
recommendation, because I've worked with
45:50
many all across the US.
45:54
They're out there. Don't stay... ill or feeling poorly.
45:58
It's just not worth it. You can you can get back to yourself.
46:03
Yes, I love that you said that.
46:06
And if I may, I just had a recent kind of,
46:06
I hadn't been to the doctor's in forever.
46:13
I'm not like a doctor's person, but I was
46:13
like, you know what, let me, I'm on
46:16
insurance now, let me go. And I went to the gyno and I was like,
46:17
Hey, like I'm having some
46:20
hormonal problems, I think, like can we
46:20
test my stuff?
46:24
And she was like, no, only thing I'd say
46:24
is like get on hormonal birth control or,
46:31
like immediately. Like she didn't ask me, I know, I'm like,
46:32
she didn't ask me like what are you
46:36
eating, are you drinking water, are you
46:36
doing sleep?
46:39
Nothing. She was just like, your age, like you're
46:40
fine.
46:43
And I was just like so offended because I
46:43
was like wow, I really haven't.
46:48
been in this like for a while and so to
46:48
have someone literally look at my face and
46:52
be like yeah only thing you can do about
46:52
that is like cosmetic or like you can only
46:56
do this and get on birth control. I was like and so I was adamant and I was
46:57
like get me my testing done and it came
47:03
back normal but I know myself and I'm like
47:03
I still don't believe you and so I'm still
47:09
on that journey to find someone who
47:09
actually takes me seriously.
47:12
And Amen and they're out there, but I tell you
47:13
what I I've had the hormonal rollercoaster
47:18
myself and Recently my RN who is a
47:18
functional medicine RN was not going to be
47:25
available to adjust my meds And I was
47:25
freaking out so I was calling all these
47:29
different hormonal places in the same
47:29
thing I'm like do you do testing can you
47:33
read the Dutch Plus test? Can you prescribe and it was like no can
47:35
you get me in six months later?
47:41
luckily my
47:43
who is a functional medicine person just
47:43
did a telemed visit with me and fixed
47:47
everything. But it's very rare to find someone that
47:47
will really listen to you, give you that
47:51
90-minute consult, run the needed tests to
47:51
find out is it adrenals, is it candida, is
47:57
it your hormones, is it your cortisol, is
47:57
it your thyroid.
48:02
Yeah, so keep searching.
48:04
Yeah. And it's like, yeah, it's like don't give up. Like you are your own advocate.
48:08
Like you have to live in your body.
48:10
And these doctors who are telling you, oh,
48:10
I can't do that.
48:13
It's like, no, you're saying that because
48:13
your insurance says that.
48:16
Guess what? Switch doctors.
48:19
I had a doctor look me in the face and
48:19
say, yeah, I don't think so.
48:22
I go, boop, and I just got rid of her.
48:24
I'm like, no. for a million doctors before someone tells
48:26
me what I have to go, that what I'm going
48:31
through every day is not, oh, I'm fine,
48:31
no.
48:34
Yeah, one resource that I will do a shout
48:34
out, the integrative, it's ifm.org,
48:40
ifm.org. It's the Integrated Functional Medicine
48:41
Association.
48:44
And they have a list of providers that
48:44
have been trained to do the right tests.
48:49
So at least start there because you can
48:49
find and search by your state who can help
48:54
you. And that's a good start.
48:56
Yeah. amazing. I didn't know about that. That's so amazing.
48:59
Yeah, so, busy lady, I can't, I suspect
48:59
the next time I look at your Instagram
49:05
feed, you're going to be like the face of
49:05
a new makeup line for safe makeup.
49:10
Someone's going to hire you and say, I
49:10
hope that happens for you because I think
49:15
you rock. So thank you. such a blessing.
49:18
Thank you so much. Thank you for doing this.
49:20
Don't go away. I'm going to thank you for listening.
