As many as 1 in 5 people have an eating disorder. Psychotherapist Emma Murphy, MIACP, knows that anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and restrictive food intake disorder have nothing to do with eating. Instead they are symptoms of unresolved trauma, hurt, loneliness, stress, fear, and the inability to express oneself.

She shares that binge eating is a mental health issues, not an eating issue.

Emma Murphy is a psychotherapist specializing in disordered eating and the Executive Director of Eating Freely.

Eating Freely's mission is to develop the World's leading network of Emotional Eating & Binge Eating Specialists, and impact 250,000 lives in the next three years.

Emma is also the author of The Four Energies of Emotional Eating, which is a workshop and card deck that is available on Amazon. She invites those suffering from an eating disorder to use the book and cards as a starting point to healing. She says to truly heal everyone eventually needs to work with a therapist, essentially one trained in eating disorders not just intuitive eating.

Through Emma's passion and work in the eating disorders area, Eating Freely is now has a network of practitioners throughout Ireland, the USA, South Africa, and Singapore.

Because of the shortage of experts in eating disorders , Emma continues to build out her network and now offers continuing education programs to practitioners who want to specialize.

She shares how social media has increased the number of teenagers and adults with negative body image issues and anxieties.

Eating Freely has partnered with Leeds Beckett University's Obesity Institute to continue the research needed to help those with eating disorders. She encourages any philanthropic organizations to consider funding the research on obesity.
