Hey,

0:05

everybody, welcome back to the move

0:08

podcast talking about

0:10

the 2024 tour to France route, which

0:15

was revealed yesterday

0:17

in Paris. And of

0:20

course, we're going to get all into it because when

0:23

we talk about the route, we're not going to mention the word

0:25

Paris, but we're going to get into that. It's going

0:27

to be an interesting year. I'm

0:30

joined by up there at top left, George and Kevin,

0:33

what's up, G? How was the Fondo? It

0:35

was great. We missed you. Perfect

0:38

day. Whoever won is better

0:40

be glad I didn't show up. Well,

0:44

I got to show you it wasn't me. I was an hour behind the winner.

0:47

By the way, they still would have won down there.

0:49

Looks like he's in Nice, France. Again,

0:52

again, teaser there. We'll talk more about Nice, France.

0:55

Johan looks like he's sitting out in front of the hotel in the

0:57

Gresco down in Nice. Yeah,

1:00

good, good, good. Unfortunately, I'm not sitting

1:02

in front of a good as coming Madrid, rainy Madrid,

1:04

but I thought it was, you know, important

1:07

to see

1:08

the background of where the tour will finish.

1:11

I'd say we'll talk about it. And

1:14

of course, last but not least, JV, I'm glad you

1:16

made it home. I mean, this

1:18

is following the drama of driving

1:21

the we do

1:22

Airstream back. I

1:25

mean, it's like, it's very

1:27

consistent. I think it may be time to upgrade

1:29

the truck that pulls that thing. I did.

1:33

Oh, I

1:35

bought I bought one two hours ago.

1:38

Oh, shit. All

1:40

right. Well, I had an idea. I had I

1:42

should have called earlier. I had an idea for

1:44

us. Is it too late to return it? Never.

1:48

Never. JB

1:50

and I had a conversation about that. So there's

1:53

a plan in place. Yeah. Okay,

1:56

good. Hey, and for the record, if you didn't follow my

1:58

drama on Instagram, one thing

1:59

to note, you did not hear

2:02

me complaining, right? Is

2:04

it fair to say that? I did not come, I was

2:06

laughing, in fact. It

2:08

happens so often. I literally, I do think

2:11

it's one of those things that if you

2:13

don't laugh, you'll cry. I mean, it is, it's like, you know,

2:19

it's like the sun coming up and going down,

2:21

like JB's truck breaking down en

2:23

route to some place. I mean, it just always happens. You

2:27

get to meet all kinds of weird people along the way, which

2:29

is maybe a whole nother show. Hey,

2:33

I just kept reminding myself, all

2:35

of us have been watching the news lately. If you watch

2:37

the news and then you look at what happened to

2:40

me being stuck in Arkansas, nothing, absolutely

2:42

nothing. I wanna get to that in a second. Before we

2:44

do, today's show brought to you by Zwift. Indoor

2:47

cycling season is just around

2:49

the corner, but Zwift has been busy

2:51

over the summer and there's never been a better time to get

2:53

started riding indoors. Zwift's

2:56

new smart trainer, the Zwift Hub,

2:59

is now a better value than ever for only 599 bucks.

3:03

Not only do you get a smart trainer with a pre-installed

3:05

cassette of your choice for a no fuss

3:08

setup and a one year of Zwift,

3:10

but you can also get free shipping when

you enter the code ZwiftHub

3:15

at checkout. There's more to do on Zwift

3:17

than ever before, including the return of We

3:19

Do Wednesdays and Suffer Sundays. I

3:22

also just read a headline that they added, I

3:24

think 19 new miles on Watopia, that's

3:26

pretty cool. Head on over to Zwift.com,

3:29

grab your Zwift Hub and do not forget to use

3:31

the code ZwiftHub for free

3:33

shipping. Also today brought to

3:35

you by OneSkin, all

3:38

one word. Are you tired of cycling through

3:40

endless amount of trending skincare products that

3:42

all claim the smooth wrinkles, firm skin

3:45

and give you a youthful glow, but

3:47

at the end of the day, maybe don't deliver the results?

3:50

Well, support for today's episode comes from OneSkin,

3:52

founded by a team of four female PhD

3:55

level longevity scientists with over 15

3:57

years of experience studying the bio.

6:00

You get out there on a bike ride, you're like, I'm

6:02

not watching the news. I'm just going to go ride

6:04

my bike. It's pretty awesome. Uh,

6:07

but crazy times folks

6:09

stay safe. It's, you know, it's, it's especially

6:12

real. I mean, you guys have traveled the world a lot more

6:14

than I have, but we spent about four days in Tel

6:16

Aviv in 2018 for when the Giro

6:19

started there and met with a lot of those

6:21

lovely people and it just scary for

6:23

both sides. It just, it's so much more

6:25

real having been there. And, uh,

6:28

wow. Yeah.

6:30

No, this is real. This

6:32

is, and when, and when you consider, again,

6:35

we're going to talk about fun things like, uh,

6:37

sports and cycling and the tour and the

6:39

joy of riding and competing on a bike, um,

6:43

I don't know, I'm not an optimist.

6:45

You know, if I've ever been searching up ads

6:48

for like decent sized sailboat

6:50

to cruise around with your family and

6:52

crystal clear water, I mean, it's, I

6:54

think it's pulled up right now. Like as

6:57

a father and a husband, as scary

7:00

times stay safe. Let's talk

7:02

about the tour friends. Listen,

7:05

you're on, you asked us in the pre-show thoughts, everybody,

7:08

of course, the tour reveal always

7:10

brings out a lot

7:12

of thoughts and opinions and thought leaders

7:15

and opinion leaders and people that love

7:17

it and people that hate it and climbers that love it

7:19

and sprinters that hated and vice versa. Here's

7:22

what I'm, my, my big takeaway. And then I want everybody

7:24

else's take is

7:26

listen, we are,

7:28

cycling is different. We talk

7:30

about it all the time. We say out loud,

7:33

we don't know this sport anymore, right? We

7:36

don't know the way it's raised, uh,

7:38

the, the age of the riders, the way they're

7:41

able to compete year round, like this

7:43

is, this is new cycling. So when I see stuff

7:45

like we're, we saw yesterday, yes,

7:48

it's different in my, in my, uh, in my view,

7:50

it's different. I've sort of given

7:53

up going, well, that's not, they don't have

7:55

a team time trial. They don't have a hundred kilometers

7:57

of individual time trials. You know, that

7:59

they're not.

10:00

Uh, we, we have talked a lot about how they have

10:03

shortened the stages over the years, hoping

10:05

for, uh, you know, perhaps

10:07

a more dynamic race, but

10:10

to your point, George, right? That first week

10:12

and, you know, we were just there and it is

10:14

always hilly, always, it

10:17

never flat. So what does that mean? That also means

10:19

a lot of turns, a lot of nerves in the Peloton.

10:21

Then you throw in three stages over 200 K just

10:24

to start. Then we're going to get to the end

10:26

of the race. Look at that.

10:29

I get excited. I don't know. Listen to me. I'm, I'm, I

10:31

can't wait. And by the way, you throw in all

10:33

of the changes in the teams, all of

10:35

the drama that we've all talked about. You guys have talked

10:38

about on the move. Plus you got, you got

10:40

Roglic on another team. This

10:43

is setting up. I, I, I

10:45

wish it was July 1st tomorrow. Actually

10:48

starts on July 7th. Correct. That's, you know

10:51

what I mean. But yeah, but no, but no,

10:54

I don't know what I was gonna say. We talked about it just this past

10:56

July, how it seems they

10:58

are making these harder and harder. And

11:01

the factor that we've seen determine

11:03

the tour is someone cracking one day, one

11:05

bad day. And that's good for spectators.

11:08

I feel like these harder courses, somebody

11:10

cracks

11:11

and that

11:12

costs them the tour.

11:13

Not only that,

11:15

not only go finish where you're saying, no, no, no, that's it. Go

11:17

ahead. So

11:18

not only that, but these,

11:19

these hard stages, which aren't typically traditional,

11:22

we saw it last year and we're seeing it again this year

11:24

in a way that actually makes the race safer because

11:26

it makes the race so hard, so strung out

11:28

that it takes away those, those

11:31

moments in the race with 50 K to go, where there's a

11:34

bunch not going full gas, but everybody's tight.

11:36

Everybody's right there. Any mistake, 40

11:38

guys go down and we hate seeing

11:41

that. And that's what you see some of the favorites go out

11:43

in the verinity because of those types

11:45

of races in a race like this first stage coming

11:48

up next year. And now the one this year

11:50

is so damn hard, so hilly that

11:52

it's strung out the whole time. And yeah, you'll

11:54

see the occasional carapace and mods

11:56

go down because they're going around in a corner full

11:58

gas, but it's not just whole bone.

13:13

the issue for out or know what are these other crimes

13:15

like i mean when you think of i am a when i think of iconic

13:18

i'm in yes sir compare him to the

13:20

the classics or the monuments which

13:22

there's only five of those rights on in france

13:25

yeah yeah yes the glib

13:27

yeah years one tourmalet as one

13:29

blonde to is one out though as as one

13:33

but You

14:00

know, we had a lot of anxiety and anticipation.

14:03

Well maybe not so much anxiety. But

14:07

we had a lot of, we were very curious about

14:10

what they would reveal. And

14:12

you want those, right? You want the big stadiums, right? You want

14:14

to, you want to play at Fenway, right? If you play baseball,

14:17

right? You want to, you want to play at the Rose Bowl if you play

14:19

football. You want to

14:21

drive Monaco if you drive F1, right? Those

14:23

are, those are the places that everybody knows and loves

14:26

and has this, this deep history. But

14:29

what we would always say is say, listen, ASO

14:32

never called us, right? They didn't call us and say,

14:35

what exactly would you all like, Coastal? Johan,

14:39

I'm just curious, would you like how much team

14:41

time trial would you like? So we would

14:43

always just defer to them. You're like, look, it's their

14:46

race. And it's up to

14:48

them to pick the route

14:50

that they think is the most interesting. But I'll

14:52

go back to Johan's point.

14:54

Never, well, maybe not never.

14:57

99.9% of the time, the

15:00

best man and woman wins the

15:02

tour. Period. Nonstop.

15:06

Yeah, go ahead, George.

15:08

I would say, I would say we always kind of thought

15:10

they didn't like the dominance

15:12

of one rider. So if they saw like a Jonas

15:14

Vindigo super strong rider, maybe

15:17

not the best time trialist. They're going to add more climbers,

15:19

more climbing stages, we would think. But

15:22

Jonas is a great time trialist and a great

15:24

climber. So it's like they haven't really affected

15:26

his chances by this course, I don't think in any

15:28

way. Or helped out a local

15:31

French rider in any way.

15:32

I think this course is actually the best

15:35

possible. Agreed. Agreed.

15:37

He's grading you out. He's grading last week. Plus,

15:40

it finishes with a time trial that is

15:42

a copy, I would say, maybe

15:44

of the time trial he won.

15:48

I think it's amazing for him.

15:51

We said about a lack

15:54

of mythical or iconic

15:56

climbs. We do have the Tourmalet.

15:59

we do have the Gallibier. But

16:02

then in terms of toughness, I

16:05

think this this is a really,

16:07

really hard tour, you know, the

16:10

stage four big mountains,

16:12

then stage 14 and 15 in the Pyrenees,

16:14

then stage 17, there's a stage in between

16:17

there around the Montmont two in

16:19

the Provence, but hard. And

16:21

then called the Labonette call the Labonette 2800

16:23

meters. Stage 19 in the Alps finishing

16:28

in Israel, the easel at 2000. That's a, and do

16:31

you guys

16:33

remember called the Labonette? Have you ever

16:35

written it? Yeah, we did in the mid 90s.

16:38

Yeah, 1995. Yeah.

16:38

Yeah, it is

16:44

it's it's an amazing

16:46

climb. It's like, you know, you go go go and

16:48

then all of a sudden you think you're on the top. And

16:50

they go a little bit higher, because

16:53

they want to

16:53

reach that peak of being the highest peak

16:56

in any race. And

16:57

that stage 19 is

17:00

is a monster of a stage and then

17:02

you still have stage 20. And the last time try

17:04

to go so

17:07

it's you know, there's been there's been some

17:09

I've seen some comments because some people said, you

17:12

know, it's not super hard. I think it's

17:14

very, very hard. I haven't. I

17:16

don't know who said that. Yeah, maybe,

17:19

maybe, maybe because you know, in terms of

17:21

altitude meters, it's, you know,

17:24

who said that somebody that's never written

17:26

the tour of France, right? That's anybody that was

17:28

that's a presentation

17:31

that has written the race in the past or will race it next

17:33

year, said it's unbelievably hard.

17:36

So whoever's sitting behind their typewriter

17:38

typing out, this is disappointing.

17:40

It's not that hard needs. Yeah.

17:43

To your point, you want fit. So just

17:46

to put it in context. Last

17:48

year, total elevation gained in the

17:50

tour for 20 or I should say this year, last

17:53

tour was 56,000

17:56

meters.

17:57

This year is 53,000. So we're talking about

18:01

I mean,

18:02

minuscule differences here. It's a hard

18:04

tour, especially the way they've stacked the

18:06

start and the finish and two times through the

18:09

Alps. We haven't even talked, we haven't even gotten

18:11

into the gravel. Yeah,

18:13

let's address the elephant in the room. Yeah,

18:16

that's right. And

18:19

I think the gravel thing, if you saw anything

18:21

negative that you

18:23

could almost draw a consensus from it

18:26

was the stage in and around the

18:28

gravel. I

18:30

still go back to what I said, like this

18:33

is the new cycling, gravel

18:35

is the new hip thing in cycling. ASO

18:38

would be crazy not to try to put that in

18:40

the race. Now, here's where I settled last

18:43

night. Do I think in 10 years

18:45

they will have gravel stages in the Tour de France?

18:47

No, I don't. But

18:50

it's a pretty girl at the ball and so

18:52

they're going to put it in. You bet your ass.

18:55

I can't imagine any of

18:57

the directors of the GG favorites

18:59

are happy with that. In fact, a lot of them commented

19:01

that they're not happy, but they want to prepare

19:03

everything they can for the Tour de France. The

19:06

best climbing guys, the best time trial guys,

19:09

the best positioning guys. But some

19:11

stuff, some of the unique things about gravel is there's

19:13

some things you can't prepare for, whether there's people

19:15

just sliding out in front of you or mechanicals.

19:18

And those are things that are really tough to plan for. And it just

19:20

makes it a lot more stressful beyond

19:23

their normal stress factor to get their riders

19:25

ready for the Tour de France.

19:27

I think honestly,

19:29

that stage

19:32

is plain bullshit to me.

19:34

I

19:36

think gravel, 32

19:38

kilometers of gravel, same as the stage

19:40

on the cobbles like Paris-Roubaix. You have

19:43

Paris-Roubaix and you have to have the Bianche for that. In

19:46

the middle of a Tour de France, it's

19:48

not just you can have flats

19:51

and you can have flats everywhere, but

19:53

the time it will take to get a spare,

19:55

you can

19:58

lose the race there. It's obviously

20:00

spectacular, but it's

20:04

so much stress. That day is so

20:06

stressful for the riders, for the mechanics,

20:08

for the team, I mean, special equipment.

20:11

I

20:12

don't know. I mean, I'm going

20:14

to be called old fashioned, and

20:17

maybe I am, but

20:18

I don't think it's. You

20:20

are. I'm not old fashioned. Come

20:24

on. Do you think we'll ever see today? Guys,

20:27

guys, guys will see this as an opportunity

20:30

to showcase their skills. You

20:32

know, it's all about technical writing and handling

20:35

skills. And they can go and they're like, they can

20:37

do planners. They can do the bed. They can just

20:39

try to be on key. They can do all that. Yeah.

20:42

The sort of France is the biggest stage in cycling and

20:44

they're going to want to

20:45

show off on that day. So there are some guys that are

20:47

going to be excited about that stage. I can guarantee it.

20:50

Do you think we'll ever see a day with a bike change

20:52

to a gravel bike going into

20:54

a section like that?

20:56

No.

20:57

Too much. No. I think the

20:59

gravel bikes are so good now. I

21:01

mean, we've talked about it right in Georgia. When we talk

21:03

about our GS ones, I could ride my GS one

21:05

all the time straight up. I mean, did they ride

21:08

really well? Yeah. They

21:11

want to use road bikes with, with just, yeah, they're going

21:13

to use road bikes. Yeah. Especially, but

21:15

here's, here's what, here's what's, you know, so, so

21:17

here's what we're going to do, right? Fast forward to July,

21:19

whatever, right? The day before the morning

21:21

of the gravel stage, we're

21:23

just going to assume Yohan's not going to watch because he just

21:25

thinks it's going to, shouldn't be there. No, no, no,

21:28

no, no, no. Now, now, now look,

21:30

now look, who's not going to sleep the night before. Just,

21:32

you got your popcorn out. I'm

21:35

going to love it as a spectator. Okay.

21:38

Well, if you're in there,

21:41

you hate this day, you hate it.

21:44

Right. But, but the organization, the GC

21:46

guys ride it. They'll hate it. But the GC, the

21:49

organizers are building a route

21:51

to make it spectacular. Of course. Of course. Of course. So,

21:55

and they didn't call us

21:57

ever

21:58

and they didn't call. the current crop

22:00

of GC favorites, they, they, it's their race.

22:03

So, you know,

22:05

the other thing that stood out and, and, um,

22:08

you know, I think we did hear a lot of, um,

22:10

and of course we've talked a lot, he's

22:12

a very good friend of ours is, is Mark Cavendish

22:15

and his pursuit of this record of,

22:17

uh, individual stage wins in the tour.

22:19

I mean, he, he straight up said, whoa, not

22:22

a lot of opportunity.

22:24

Um,

22:26

which, you know, being a friend of his and

22:28

a, and a friend of the show, that sucks,

22:31

um, you know, I'll have to find his, you don't

22:33

have to find his moments. Could you elaborate on

22:36

that? Cause I know there's what you

22:38

said. There's basically eight, what you would call

22:40

flat stages. Why is this not a Cavendish

22:42

opportunity? Can you shed some light on that? Well,

22:46

I mean, well, starters, he's got to get

22:48

to the finish to get the

22:50

full late, right? And if it starts that hard,

22:52

you just, but I'd yell on, you have much better

22:54

thoughts than me, but you got to get to the finish

22:56

to take advantage of the full late if there

22:59

are even eight.

23:00

Yeah. Well, I mean, it says flat stages, but doesn't,

23:02

doesn't necessarily mean it's bunch prints, right? Uh,

23:05

you can basically eliminate the whole last week

23:08

as an opportunity for sprinters because you

23:11

know, it's from stage 14 on and then

23:13

you have stage 16, you have stage 18, but

23:16

I don't think, I don't think there's going to be any bunch

23:18

prints in the last week, uh, plus, you

23:21

know, there's not that much motivation for a sprinter

23:23

to go to the finish because there's no, there's

23:25

no stage in Paris and an opportunity

23:27

to sprint on the chance of these days. So if

23:30

you're not in contention for the points Jersey,

23:32

then it has to happen in the first 30 days,

23:37

take out time trial, take out a few, you

23:39

know, mountain stages. Uh, there's

23:41

not that much opportunities.

23:43

Let's, let's hit pause. We are talking, we are talking.

23:46

I want to hit pause real quick. Hold

23:48

that thought, George, cause I got to take care of a little

23:50

business, but I want to keep talking about Cav and

23:52

I want to talk about, uh, just

23:54

his experience, uh, with

23:56

that part of Europe, specifically

23:58

that part of Italy, of course.

23:59

Tuscany, a place that he lived

24:02

most of his career. But before

24:04

we do, today's show also brought to you by

24:06

HVMN. We often hear that fasting

24:09

and exercise are good for the brain.

24:11

HVMN launched the world's first drinkable

24:13

24:42

that's hvmn.com

24:45

slash the move. Also

24:48

today brought to you by AG1. Talk

24:51

about something we not only talk about on

24:53

almost every show, it is a part of our daily

24:55

regimen. I've incorporated AG1

24:58

into my life 365 days a year at home. I

25:02

have my tub, they send these cool

25:04

tubs. You put it in the fridge when

25:07

I'm on the road. I've got the travel packs. At

25:09

the end of the day, I just want to absolutely take

25:11

control of my health. All of the things

25:15

that we think of, whether it's primarily gut

25:17

health, I

25:19

think that's been a big one for me. Take

25:22

control of your health for less than three bucks

25:24

a day, over 75

25:27

adaptogens and nutrients all in

25:29

there. Speaking of that, I

25:32

had my first colonoscopy yesterday. That was

25:34

no fun. I

25:36

meant to say that at the top of the show, but I was trying

25:39

to be very serious. But

25:41

no, AG1, complete. I

25:44

can't help but notice you're such a fan. You're rocking

25:46

AG1 apparel. I

25:49

am, you're right. Well, look, we

25:51

get a lot of stuff sent to us. Actually, I didn't

25:53

even notice that, but

25:56

this sweatshirt, yeah, you're right. That was

25:58

not intended. Canada,

28:00

the UK, select countries in the EU and

28:02

Australia. Let's go back

28:04

to Cav. George, George, tell me, I mean, don't

28:07

we have some shots here? I mean, he must know.

28:10

I mean, these are his roads, Tuscany, you know,

28:12

he lived, right? I mean, maybe not right

28:14

where the stages are, but he knows these roads.

28:17

Like if we're going to build some hope and some, uh,

28:20

some anticipation for Cav, like

28:22

boy, and how about coming out of the gate

28:24

and breaking that fucking record and just being like, Mike

28:27

drop, I don't care how many times y'all go over the Alps.

28:30

I'm going to the beach. Peace out.

28:32

Yeah.

28:33

Well, yeah, it'll be on stage

28:35

three, uh, for the first

28:37

potential sprint. And yes, he loves Italy.

28:40

He's one of the biggest races. He's won the

28:42

Milan centering. He's an Italian

28:44

half Italian at heart. So to speak. And he's

28:47

a man of motivation and the only motivation

28:50

for him to continue in the sport of cycling

28:52

is to break that record and win his

28:54

final stage of the Tour de France, nothing

28:56

else leading up to the Tour de France. I will tell

28:58

you what matter, or he might not even, might

29:01

not even see him perform well in

29:03

the month leading up to the Tour de France. He is a hundred

29:05

percent focused on that stage when obviously

29:08

he's going to have to sprint with some of the best leading up to

29:10

that, maybe he does the zero, maybe he doesn't,

29:13

but he was in probably with some of the best shape

29:15

of his entire life this year and

29:18

because of bad luck, he didn't get that stage win. And

29:21

clearly he just didn't want to go out in that

29:24

incredible career in an ambulance. So

29:25

fortunately for us, we can see him race

29:28

again.

29:28

I do think, I do think that Kav

29:31

is going to, I think he's going to have a good, a good

29:33

beginning of the season because you know,

29:35

he, he started racing again on

29:37

purpose. He did the tour of Turkey

29:40

out of all races, you know, that means

29:42

that he wants to go into the winter with a

29:44

decent form and I think he's going

29:46

to build, keep building his form and plus

29:50

I have to say the team has strengthened themselves. You

29:52

know, they have, they, they, they hired some really

29:54

interesting guys. So obviously

29:57

I think this is the main team goal. the

30:00

whole season to get Cavendish

30:02

that win and then basically

30:04

be the team that makes history. And

30:08

if it happens, George, I think it'll

30:11

happen early. It'll happen soon. I agree. I

30:14

agree with you. Stage 3,

30:17

stage 6,

30:18

those kind of stages,

30:20

I think he's capable of doing it.

30:22

How often do sprinters get

30:24

to take that strategy of being

30:26

solely focused on the Tour de France? Like

30:29

that doesn't happen very often. So

30:31

what will be his lead up? What's his

30:33

ideal lead up?

30:36

Obviously George Giro would be critical.

30:38

Yeah, I would say for him, a guy that's

30:40

staging a career, you know, training

30:42

into the race fitness is tough, very

30:44

tough mentally to do so much training on

30:46

your own. Of course, he's going to have to do a lot of

30:48

that training. He's recruited his favorite

30:51

trainer, a Greek guy from

30:54

QuickStep, which for him was a big confidence

30:56

booster. He's got him behind his

30:58

side. So they're going to come up with a very strong

31:01

platform to get him ready for the Tour de France. They've

31:03

got Morikov on the team. And they have Morikov, correct.

31:06

So he's got the tools that he needs and

31:10

the backing that he really wanted even more than

31:12

this season. So I would guess it's

31:14

going to be

31:15

even better this year. Morikov

31:18

is a straight up assassin. If

31:21

he's even a shadow of what

31:23

he has been in the past, then

31:25

that could be his golden ticket.

31:28

Yeah, I think also the confidence

31:31

Cavendish has in Morikov. So

31:33

basically, George,

31:34

my inside

31:36

information was correct, right?

31:39

When Cav crashed

31:42

out of the Tour the same

31:44

day or the day after, he called Morikov to say,

31:46

hey,

31:47

come to the team. I'm coming back next year.

31:52

What are your thoughts, all of you, on the

31:54

last day individual time

31:56

trial, which we have not seen since 1989? We've

32:00

been talking about how bonuses, time

32:02

bonuses have become a factor more than ever. We

32:06

could see it come down to that last day. Do

32:08

you guys like that kind of finish or no?

32:11

I love it. I love it. I

32:14

don't think the bonuses are going to be of

32:17

any influence with that kind of last

32:19

week.

32:21

But that time trial is, I mean, 35 kilometers,

32:24

yeah, with Latour, Bienn,

32:26

and Col des. Do you guys know

32:28

these roads? You've lived there. Very

32:31

good. Anybody who has done Paris-Nise

32:34

knows those roads. That's a hard time trial.

32:37

Very hard, very technical, very one of the

32:39

most scenic places on earth. I'm

32:42

very excited to watch that. I got to ride, not

32:44

that, a lot of those courses a few weeks ago

32:46

when I was there for the Ironman. It's going

32:48

to be stunning and it's going to be a very,

32:51

very exciting finish in the Tour de France.

32:54

What do you guys think Roglic's support

32:57

looks like? Not being on Jumbo

32:59

Visma, Visma clearly a dominant

33:01

team. I don't know the real breakdown

33:04

of his new team and how

33:06

they can support him in the Tour

33:08

with Borah. What

33:10

are your thoughts? I mean,

33:12

if I'm him, I play the role of Joker.

33:15

You just need to back and wait. He doesn't

33:17

need to. It's not his. Nobody expects him to

33:19

win the Tour de France. Yes, he's going to be on the list

33:21

of three or four or five favorites, of

33:23

course. But

33:26

he's not number one or number two. So if I'm

33:28

him, I just sit back and say,

33:30

look, we clearly have two big favorites

33:32

here with amazing teams. You

33:34

guys go control

33:36

the race and try and win the race and just

33:39

sit back. He can also do

33:41

that. And by the way, that team is strong. By

33:45

chance, if he's put in that role in the last week,

33:48

I'm not losing any sleep over that team's ability

33:50

to support him. But I

33:52

would go in playing

33:55

the role of the Joker and just go, I'm an old guy. I used

33:57

to jump skis, you know, whatever. You

34:00

know, only got a couple of years left and a hundred

34:03

percent. I would totally play possum.

34:05

Let the race unfold. Obviously, you

34:07

know, stay up there, not, not lose any time.

34:10

He does sometimes have some issues

34:12

there, but, um, I'd

34:15

watch him. Maybe same thing. Same

34:17

thing with his team. They just hold back like,

34:20

and save it for week three.

34:23

Yeah. I think they do have a strong

34:25

team. You know what I mean? They do. They're just amazed border.

34:27

They, they, they know they, they have their things

34:29

together.

34:30

For sure.

34:31

And they have a, they have the team that has

34:33

a long-term plan. I mean, they even said they,

34:35

they had the money for, for Primo's for money

34:38

that had, they have saved over the years. No team

34:40

or very few teams in the fellow Tonkin have

34:42

that sort of freedom to hire a rider

34:45

like Primo's. They have the strong guys like, like

34:47

go on set, got some positioning. Um,

34:50

they have the whole

34:51

onslaught of guys that they need

34:53

to support. It was a big operation.

34:56

That transfer was a big operation. Yeah.

34:59

But, uh, it was a big

35:01

surprise also that he went to Bora, but, uh,

35:03

I mean, you know, if you think, if you look at

35:06

the contract, probably that's around. Probably

35:08

around 4 million euros. And

35:11

reportedly the information I have

35:13

that there was a buyout of 3

35:16

million to be paid. Oh, seven million

35:19

in the first year.

35:20

Yeah. Well, real quick, George, I know

35:22

you got to run, but we can stay on here and just

35:24

tidy up, uh, thanks

35:26

guys. So for all you George fans to

35:28

please don't hang up, he'll be back very

35:31

soon on the next show. All right.

35:33

Thanks guys. Um,

35:35

what I was getting, we talked about the owner of Bora

35:37

who's the by all accounts really involved

35:40

in the team. You know, oftentimes you have a, a

35:43

corporation who sponsors a team. The

35:45

CEO is not, he's not getting

35:47

daily updates on what's going

35:50

on with his cycling team most of the time. If ever,

35:52

a by all accounts, the owner

35:54

of Bora, I don't even know his name, but is, is very involved.

35:56

And so that, I don't, I may have,

35:59

yeah.

35:59

You've built a successful business.

36:02

You want to go make a run at the biggest race in the world. You're

36:04

going to pay them 40 million euros a year. If

36:07

the buyout's 3 million, that's just the cost of doing

36:09

business. And let's go for

36:11

it.

36:12

I think it's an amazing move

36:14

for Bora. Totally. They

36:17

established themselves as one

36:19

of the really leading teams with a guy like

36:21

Roglic, I mean, he's always there.

36:23

Obviously,

36:26

if we talk about the favorites, I

36:28

think it's Vigner, Pogacher and Roglic,

36:30

the same tree, right? If those three

36:33

guys stay healthy

36:35

and don't have any bad luck,

36:37

who

36:38

would be able to be on the

36:40

podium except if one

36:42

of those trees is not on there? I don't see

36:44

anybody else. Well, not even Remco. You

36:48

don't think they won't make his season.

36:50

This won't be a focus, you think? Yeah.

36:53

Yeah. I mean, he'll want to do the Ardennes

36:55

classics and he'll want to win some races, but it's

36:58

his first Tour de France. And

37:02

he has won the Vuelta, but

37:04

this is a different game, the Tour

37:06

de France. So I don't think

37:09

we can expect from him to be in contention

37:11

for the podium. He'll need

37:14

to learn the ropes. And, you

37:16

know, Vuelta victory

37:18

is one thing, but there's a big difference

37:21

with the Tour de France, and especially if

37:23

those three guys are fit and

37:26

on the start line and nothing happens to them,

37:28

I

37:28

don't see him rivaling with them. Well,

37:31

he has the talent, let's be honest, I mean, he has the

37:33

talent to be on the podium.

37:35

But then you get into this longer list of, you know,

37:38

I just saw the headline that Ineos re-signed

37:40

Rodriguez. We talked a lot about that last summer. Was

37:42

he going to Movistar? They re-signed him

37:45

for a few years. I

37:48

got a Carapaz, right? He's

37:50

got to be a little motivated, right? Came in, new

37:52

team, new contract, very

37:55

short Tour. You start to get into the list

37:57

of guys like that that are, that

37:59

are going to be. fighting for that, you know, if

38:01

there's a podium spot left.

38:03

Yeah. Yeah.

38:05

Yeah. Well, I mean, listen, this, this year was grand

38:07

Thomas who was really strong.

38:10

Um, but

38:11

you know, it's the two guys, the

38:13

two big guys in Vinkengaard and Bogaczard it's going

38:15

to be like that for a while, I think. And

38:18

you know, whoever's the third guy, that's,

38:20

that's to be seen. But, uh,

38:23

I think Roglic, um, I

38:25

liked, I liked the movie made, you know, I

38:28

agree from Jumbo both the Bora.

38:30

And that's, uh, I mean, that's going to

38:32

be interesting. Oh, and last year, you

38:34

know, Pagaczard had his eye on Flanders

38:37

among other things. If

38:40

he changes that up and makes this as pure

38:42

focus, is that something we'll likely see?

38:46

I would hope so. I would hope

38:48

so. I

38:49

mean, he, he checked, he took those off his

38:51

bucket list. He checked those boxes. Well, one, one

38:53

would hope, look, this is a good tour for him too.

38:56

It's a very good tour for both of those guys.

38:58

Yeah. I mean, no, but neither of those two

39:00

riders should be sitting at home disappointed

39:03

with this route. Right. It's, it's not, let's

39:05

not forget that. I don't, I don't think we should judge

39:07

Bogaczard

39:08

based on his second place of this year.

39:11

Uh, let's not forget

39:13

he was injured. You know, he got this crash and you

39:17

know, fractured wrists. It's

39:19

not easy to come back from that in a few weeks and then

39:21

be really 100% in the tour

39:24

of France. So, um, but

39:26

I, I personally, personally, I do think he

39:28

needs to revisit his schedule. Um,

39:31

and then hopefully in the team, they, they think

39:34

the same, the same way.

39:36

He's like in that gravel stage. Oh

39:39

yeah. Yeah. He is definitely like between

39:41

those two. And of course,

39:44

everybody in the Peloton runs

39:46

the risk of having something happen negatively

39:49

on the gravel. But if of the two that

39:54

that's, you know, Point for

39:56

Bogaczard there.

39:57

Yeah. Yeah. Well, he did the same thing in

39:59

the. in the cobble stage

40:02

last year. He

40:05

went on the attack and took some time, but

40:08

he's definitely one of the guys at Purdue GC

40:11

who does like the grapple stage for sure. Yeah.

40:15

Anything else stand out before we wrap

40:17

up?

40:18

Not for

40:20

the tour, I just have one more

40:23

announcement to make. So

40:26

we're, the season is finished.

40:28

We're talking about the Tour de France. We have some

40:30

other new interesting projects

40:33

coming up, but I do want

40:35

to remind all the

40:38

listeners and viewers that we're

40:41

already working toward the classics with

40:43

We Do Travel.

40:46

Father Bianche, we're gonna have

40:48

a DeMouffe team there, Tour of Planners again

40:50

like this year, DeMouffe Planners and

40:53

DeMouffe Paris-Roubaix. So three times, every

40:56

time George is gonna be there, I'm

40:59

gonna be there and every time there's going to be another

41:02

big champion, multiple world

41:04

champion, ex winner of these races.

41:07

So I would invite everybody

41:09

to check out our travel section

41:11

on the We Do. We do.team webpage

41:14

where you can find the information and sign

41:16

up.

41:18

Love it.

41:19

Love it.

41:21

JB, let's talk later. I'm a little stressed about this

41:23

car purchase. I'm

41:26

stressed about my Airstream being

41:29

out in the field where you

41:31

should see where it is. My plan is,

41:34

I'm gonna go get it tomorrow. I didn't know you left

41:36

it there. Yeah. You

41:40

know JB and I had a talk about this already.

41:44

He told me I'm purchasing cars and okay,

41:46

call me. I'm

41:50

not messing around. I'm like, I woke

41:52

up this morning and said, I'm getting a different

41:54

truck today

41:55

and going to get my Airstream tomorrow.

41:59

You're gonna get there to be some

42:02

bums living up in there. It could be bad

42:04

if you saw where where I broke down It could

42:06

be just taking a dude She

42:10

She'll never be the same. Maybe go buy a new

42:13

air stream while you're at it. I know my ventums

42:15

in there, too He'll be doing hot

42:17

laps Anyways,

42:21

oh one I did have one question you on was it

42:24

because you have your ears to the ground there

42:26

so well Was were

42:28

there any other? Finishing

42:30

cities considered besides nice or

42:32

was that always I mean they knew they they knew

42:34

look There

42:37

is a part of me I guess I should say that

42:39

that says yeah, I get it. It's

42:41

the Olympics great But

42:43

I don't care. This is the fucking tour de France

42:46

figure it out like just open

42:48

some roads We don't have to do the lab. We don't have to do anything

42:50

just we're gonna come in there We'll be in and out of your

42:52

hair just like you say to people like I'll be

42:55

in and out I promise

43:00

That part is a little odd as much as

43:02

I love nice was any other city I don't

43:05

I don't I don't know I I don't know the

43:07

answer But I do think though

43:09

that you know one of course nice is a great

43:11

place to finish You know

43:14

a few years ago. We had a start of the tour de France

43:16

and nice right yep But I

43:18

think it's also it comes down to money. You know

43:21

come down to who pays and I

43:24

would imagine that nice has the resources

43:27

to really get into

43:29

the bidding war and Take

43:31

away the price

43:33

There you have it. Yeah, you have

43:35

it. All right everybody I don't

43:37

know about y'all, but I think I can

43:40

speak for everybody here. We you know

43:42

this is a it's an interesting dynamic different

43:47

route for the tour de France so and and

43:49

and and of course not just the men's race, but

43:51

the women's race which I um Teaser

43:55

that teaser alert there finishes on one

43:58

of those stadiums. We were just talking about finishes on

44:00

Alpe d'Huez, so looking forward to that as well. Anyhow,

44:04

we'll have the women's route breakdown

44:07

tomorrow with Ali, Mari and

44:09

Spencer, him. Alright everybody,

44:11

have a good offseason, we'll see you soon.
