In this episode, we discuss the caste system in India - that is, our experience with it as the first gen children of immigrants who moved to the US. Caste has defined our lives, and we’ve also managed to break free from it. Does caste disappear when we leave India? Unfortunately, that’s not an option for everyone. We use different forms of art to guide our thinking: The White Tiger (the book and the movie), A Plate of Moon from the show Food Lore (available on HBO Max), and episode 2 of Lust Stories (available on Netflix). We also examine the recent farmers’ protests in India that have been among the biggest political protests of the century.
