1:17
We
1:28
have a big old movie that are available now
1:30
we're going to talk about. We're a week away from
1:32
the biggest game of the year. We're going
1:34
to talk a little bit about that. And there's so
1:37
much more.
1:37
That's right. We're going to be talking about games,
1:39
comics, books, toys, movies, TV, or
1:42
whatever you're excited about. Including New
1:44
York Comic Con this
1:46
week. Which, Ryan and I will also be there.
1:49
Yeah, but this week we
1:51
have a great interview later on in the show. Who'd you talk to?
1:54
I got to talk with Cindy Barwick about
1:56
the Marvel Terra Deck and Guidebook.
1:59
Which is absolutely amazing. Absolutely gorgeous. But
2:01
you know what? Don't take my word for
2:03
it. You can hear the full interview in just
2:05
a bit. Yes. And but as you mentioned,
2:07
New York Comic Con is in full swing
2:09
by the time everybody is starting to listen to this episode.
2:12
But you know, with New York Comic Con
2:14
happening, y'all can expect a ton
2:17
of news and exciting announcements throughout the
2:19
day and over the weekend. If you
2:21
want to keep track yourself, of course, you could stay
2:24
close to marvel.com slash NYCC, Marvel
2:26
social channels, get all the updates, the live streams,
2:28
all that jazz. We'll round it all up for
2:30
you next week here
2:33
on the show. So stay tuned for that. Y'all
2:35
can't see it, but I'm doing jazz hands right now.
2:38
Ryan. Yeah. If
2:40
you are going to be at the show, come to the Marvel
2:42
booth. Say hi to me. I've got some this
2:44
week of Marvel pins that I'm
2:46
a share. There's a lot of pins this year to
2:49

2:51
the full merch list if
2:53

2:55
you can spend your money there. Maybe you should
2:57
also be spending your money to get tickets for
3:00
Marvel Studios. Love Marvel. Oh,
3:03
I'm so ready.
3:04
Oh, Ryan, it's just about a month away. I've
3:07
been holding it in. I'm
3:09
very excited. The moment that I knew
3:11
that I was coming out the week of my
3:13
birthday, I was like, thank you
3:16
for this and this this wonderful
3:18
birthday gift. Marvel Studios of
3:20
putting Marvel Studios the
3:23
Marvels in theaters
3:25
November. You
3:32
can go get your tickets on Fandango or
3:34
wherever you get your advance tickets for
3:36
your movies. And
3:38
then Ryan next week is is one
3:41
of the biggest releases
3:43
of a video game.
3:47

3:49
next Friday, October 20th, only
3:52
on PlayStation 5. Get excited,
3:54
get hyped. We're going to help catch you up on the
3:56
game next week. We're going to give our feelings.
4:00
So many feelings so
4:03
many feelings. I can't say anything more we're
4:05
gonna move on because
4:06
we can't say anything more Marvel
4:08
move let's move on. Yeah,
4:10
so this week in Marvel move we've
4:12
got the Final
4:15
episode of our three-part the Marvel series
4:17
the flurkin race series The
4:20
the big finale where you as
4:23
the runner team up with Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel
4:25
Monica Rambo and a very good flurkin named mr.
4:27
Fluffy pants to save the day
4:29
to bring a Couple
4:32
together to do some cool stuff to beat the bad guys
4:34
And this is this last part that released this week
4:37
is a virtual race and see their 5k or 10k You
4:39
can run it a bulk either ways whichever
4:42
you feel comfortable doing So
4:45
definitely please do all three episodes of
4:47
the Marvel's flurkin
4:48
race and if they do it before New York Comic
4:50
Con Even you know what
4:52
you could even do the episodes
4:55
while you're walking around New York Comic Con. Oh
4:58
Cuz it's set the first episode and part of
5:00
the second set in a convention center at
5:03
a superhero convention So it feels very
5:06
like part and parcel with with New York comments
5:08
like almost like we plan this Very
5:10
man. I love it. I know You
5:13
should come to the Marvel booth at 1 p.m. Each day
5:16
and show that you've done those races you get
5:18
a free exclusive pin See
5:20
a lot of pins in New York Comic Con a free
5:22
race bib and a race completion
5:25
certificate signed by The Marvel's
5:27
Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel and Monica.
5:30
It's real cool. Give you all that stuff for free Just
5:32
showing that you did it. It's delightful
5:36
Also this week we have episode 12
5:39
of Thor and Loki trials of the 10 realms got
5:41
trolls you got deadly birds You got a quest for
5:43
the dwarves. It's a lot of fun and normally
5:45
throughout the last you know, two
5:48
months we would put out the Thor
5:50
and Loki 5k training episodes, but we're holding
5:52
the final week of Our
5:55
5k trainer until next week and we're
5:57
gonna release them a little bit differently spread them out across
5:59
the week It's big, it's fun, it's
6:01
the gigantic culmination
6:03
of the epic. If you are running those episodes,
6:07
you know who the big bad is. I don't want to spoil it,
6:09
but it's real good times.
6:12
Speaking of dope things that could happen at
6:14
New York Comic Con, star
6:16
in an official Marvel's Avengers
6:18
comic to celebrate New York Comic Con. What?
6:21
Yeah. We
6:25
teamed up with Whatnot, and Whatnot will be giving
6:27
one fan the opportunity to be more
6:29
commercialized in their very own Marvel's Avengers
6:32
comic. The winner of this whole
6:34
thing gets to be on the cover alongside
6:36
Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and more. Then the
6:39
book itself will get printed, released
6:42
in a limited collectible run with multiple
6:44
variants. It's going to have great
6:46
Marvel artists on it. Then
6:48
it's super cool. You'll be able to enter for
6:51
your chance to win on the Whatnot app
6:53
by going to the marketplace tab, clicking
6:55
on drops. You'll see the Marvel Whatnot
6:58
drop card. Just boom, enter it. It's
7:01
super duper cool because it's free to enter, but
7:03
you got to do it before October
7:05
15th. That's Sunday, October 15th
7:08
at 6 p.m. Eastern. That's
7:10
when you got to enter by in order to win. You get
7:12
the full rules and more info at marvel.whatsnot.com.
7:17
I may not be at New York Comic Con, but I
7:19
will be listening to women
7:21
of Marvel this week
7:24
because they are focusing on the one,
7:26
the only Emma
7:27
Frost. That's right. This
7:29
week, Ellie and Preeti are going to be talking about our favorite ice
7:32
queen. Yeah. On the show, it's super
7:34
cool because they have writer Leah Williams. We
7:36
love Leah. She's the best. Talking
7:39
to Leah about the Hellfire Gala and whether
7:42
Emma is a hero or a villain. They talk
7:44
to fashion expert, Dr. Valerie Steele
7:47
about Emma's clothes and sex positivity
7:49
and how that broadcasts power. This
7:51
is all good stuff. And this week,
7:53
we had season two, episode two of Marvel Studios'
7:56
Loki, of course, that released this week
7:58
as Chaos Within. the TVA, timelines
8:01
are just going to haywire or maybe
8:04
disappearing. I guess you got to make sure you
8:06
are watching the show every Thursday
8:09
only on Disney+.
8:11
There's some more Loki coming
8:15
your way. Well, for those of you who are in
8:17
California.
8:19
Yeah, I love how
8:21
they do this. So over at the
8:24
Avengers campus at Disney California
8:27
Adventure Park, every once
8:29
in a while you'll get some special limited time
8:31
appearances by Marvel
8:33
Cinematic Universe characters. So right
8:36
now, Loki and Obi slip
8:38
into Avengers campus for a limited time. The
8:40
TVA gets straight into the Avengers
8:43
campus. It's really, really
8:45
cool. We're going to get to see the two of them
8:47
at Avengers campus. Maybe
8:49
you've run into Loki, accompanied by
8:52
Orboros or Obi for short.
8:54
They're going to have a TVA handbook. They're going to
8:56
do some field work working on the timeline. I'm
8:59
sure like I can't wait to see the videos of
9:01
fans meeting them and interacting with them and
9:03
like throwing questions and like just
9:06
getting those moments at
9:09
Avengers campus. All right.
9:12
So before Ryan goes to New York Comic Con,
9:15
y'all have fun seeing him. That's
9:17
great. He's going to tell
9:19
us what the new comic picks are for this week.
9:22
Yeah.
9:24
New comics came out this week.
9:26
First pick I wanted was Amazing Spider-Man number 35,
9:30
which is the big culmination of the
9:33
Craven the Hunter arc with Queen Goblin and Norman
9:35
Osborn written by Zab Wells, art by Patrick
9:38
Gleason. And there's, you
9:40
know, we talked about feeling the feelings.
9:42
There's a lot of feelings in here. It's a great
9:45
timing because you've
9:47
got a Spider-Man who is sort of like in
9:49
this black costume in this comic
9:52
and he's he's
9:54
affected and he's fighting Craven. So you know
9:56
all the stuff that we've been talking about for Marvel Spider-Man 2. Whoo.
10:01
Yeah, there's, I there's so much I want to talk about with
10:03
this, this book, but it is big
10:05
Patrick Gleason's art is so motive and
10:08
dark and moody and cool and scary
10:10
at times, but that big superhero punch
10:13
up and then there's this splash page
10:16
of Spidey back to
10:18
like feeling that feel of
10:20
like gotta be a superhero pulling
10:22
the mask on with the sunlight
10:24
behind him. It is that's like put
10:27
that on a dang poster. Looks
10:30
good. Alright, moving on second
10:32
pick Avengers number six, which is
10:34
part four of City Killers where
10:37
this is this is the big one where the Avengers have turned
10:39
it around. And they're going after
10:42
the action combine these horrible,
10:44
horrible villains written by Jed Bekay
10:47
art by Yvonne Ferriorelli. And
10:49
this one they get a new headquarters
10:52
in this, they have
10:55
just like incredible hero moments, every
10:57
single Avenger has these big moments. There's
10:59
a new Avenger that that gets
11:01
to be part of the crew in this you get Thor calling
11:04
the lightning down you get scarlet witch
11:07
basically like clapping to
11:09
the side and like, like fighting
11:11
the fight in a really cool way. It's, it's
11:14
rad. This is going to be an excellent, excellent
11:16
bunch of issues to read all together in
11:18
collected form and then seeing where this
11:21
squad of Avengers goes from here. They
11:23
got a mission they got things to do. Also,
11:26
reminder, like Kang is just like
11:28
hovering above it all.
11:32
Third pick now I was torn between
11:34
Superior Spider Man returns, which
11:37
is fantastic and cap off and the howling
11:39
commandos.
11:40
And you went with cap
11:42
wolf and the howling commandos correct?
11:44
We are going with cap wolf and howling commandos
11:46
partially because they're both equally wonderful.
11:49
But I was reminded by producer Jasmine that
11:52
we have writer Stephanie Phillips on
11:54
the show next week. So
11:56
little tee up get everybody ready. Because it's
11:59
it's good. It is Captain America joining
12:02
Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos in a World
12:05
War II battle with art by Carlos Magno.
12:08
And it's rad. It's just good
12:12
World War II superheroes,
12:15
soldiers, banter,
12:18
Nazi punching, werewolves.
12:20
Thank
12:23
you. I just, you know, I have this feeling. I
12:25
don't think you said the name of the...
12:28
I don't know if you said the name of the comic right, Ryan.
12:31
Catwolf and the Howling
12:33
Commandos. Perfection. It
12:35
is good comic books. It is real
12:37
good comic books.
12:38
Make sure you're checking out
12:41
all of the cool books that are out this week,
12:43
because there are more than that. And all the cool books that are coming
12:45
out next week over at Marvel.com.
12:49
And get those on your pull list.
12:50
Yeah. Also, we should have all that stuff
12:52
in our show notes as well for you. But
12:55
that's comic stuff. Let's get into
12:57
something magical coming up. Our
12:59
chat with Sydney Baric. We'll be right back.
13:02
Etsy has it, everyone. Yes, it's true. wardrobe?
13:08

13:18

13:20

13:46

13:48
table linens for entertaining, or a
13:50
handbag and a perfect jacket to make sure you're
13:52

13:55

13:57
Etsy has it. style

14:02
any occasion. Etsy has it. Shop
14:05
Etsy.com.
14:12
Hey, you're listening to This Week in Marvel. I'm Ryan
14:14
Penagos.
14:15
And I'm Angelique Roche. Yo! Yo!
14:18
So I'm really excited because I got
14:20
a chance to talk to Cindy Barwick
14:23
about the work, not just
14:26
with the deck, but about
14:28
Terra in general and about the
14:30
guidebook and how the
14:32
guidebook helps you go through
14:34
each one of the cards, but also talks about
14:37
how to use the deck.
14:40
So, you know, enough from me. I'm not the
14:42
expert.
14:43
Let's hear my conversation with Cindy.
14:45
Hi. I'm
14:49
so excited because I'm here with Cindy
14:52
Barwick, who is basically
14:55
the mastermind behind,
14:58
I think, one of the coolest things Marvel has done
15:00
to date, which is the Marvel
15:02
Tarot and guidebook. Hi.
15:07
Hi, Angelique. How are you today?
15:10
I am good. I'm actually really excited
15:12
for folks who are fans
15:16
of Tarot and who are fans of Marvel. This is
15:18
like the perfect marriage, bringing
15:21
all of this amazing iconography
15:24
into
15:25
one of our favorite
15:27
spaces. But I kind of want to start
15:29
and take a step back for folks
15:32
who have never
15:35
picked up a Tarot deck,
15:38
who have only seen it in kind
15:39
of these mystical moments in movies or, you
15:43
know, this one time where someone's just like
15:45
throwing a card and it's
15:46
someone's fate. Can
15:49
you just give like a quick breakdown
15:53
of what
15:55
a traditional 78-card
15:57
Tarot deck is?
15:59
Yeah, so tarot is
16:02
split into major arcana and minor arcana.
16:07
And the major arcana cards really
16:10
are archetypes. They're
16:13
archetypes of humankind,
16:15
spirit, life's moments, while
16:20
the minor arcana really
16:21
address, oh,
16:24
you know, everyday occurrences
16:26
and the minor arcana are split,
16:29
it's split into four different suits.
16:31
Cups, wands,
16:34
swords, and pentacles, also
16:37
called coins.
16:39
Yeah, so that is a 50,000 foot view
16:42
of a
16:43
tarot.
16:47
So it feels like you're
16:48
extremely familiar with
16:50
tarot and you've been doing this for a minute.
16:53
I have.
16:54
So talk
16:57
to me a little bit about what got you into tarot and
17:01
why you feel like it's such, I mean,
17:04
I think it's in this beautiful
17:05
art form, but also
17:07
this amazing way to kind
17:09
of work
17:10
through life's decisions
17:11
and figure things out. But what was it
17:13
for you that drew you to this practice?
17:17
Well, I have been
17:19
on a spiritual journey for
17:21
decades.
17:24
And I'm trained
17:26
in a lot of different modalities,
17:30
different divination techniques,
17:34
I'm an interfaith minister.
17:40
I went to a
17:42
shaman school to train
17:44
to be in
17:46
shamanic techniques. And
17:49
that's really what,
17:52
you know, lift the fire for me because
17:54
I think, you
17:56
know, unless you are
17:58
hands on,
17:59
with a particular
18:02
path or modality. Until
18:05
your hands on and seeing
18:07
it
18:08
and seeing results, we're
18:11
seeing
18:12
spirit and motion almost.
18:16
It's hard to grasp.
18:17
But one of my
18:20
very first,
18:22
one
18:24
of my very first moments where
18:26
I thought, okay, there's,
18:30
I know I'm on the right path, is the
18:32
first time I went to a workshop
18:37
with a gentleman named Michael Harner, who
18:40
is now deceased. He founded the
18:42
Foundation for Shamanic Studies
18:45
and he
18:46
had this
18:48
weekend workshop
18:51
to train in
18:52
general shamanic principles. And
18:55
took us through a shamanic
18:58
journey
18:58
with rattles
19:00
and drumming.
19:02
And
19:04
that's really, you go on
19:06
a journey to the middle world or the lower
19:08
world and we
19:11
partnered up with somebody else, somebody who's
19:14
never met before.
19:15
And I was able to identify what
19:18
she did for a living, what
19:22
her physical ailments were, and the best
19:24
way to set off on the proper path.
19:28
And
19:31
when she was able to say, yes,
19:36
all of what you told
19:38
me was correct.
19:39
Like, okay, I know
19:40
I'm doing the right thing now. So I trained in feng shui
19:42
also and Caro was just, it
19:47
was a very, very, very, very,
19:49
very, very, very, it was a part of that.
19:53
Fast forward 30 years.
19:55
I
20:00
need to pretty much every day.
20:03
It's good
20:04
to set your course in the
20:06
morning
20:07
with a single card full. Use
20:10
it as a focus card. And
20:13
it's really a great guide
20:15
on how to
20:17
not conduct yourself during the day, but
20:20
how to deal
20:23
with any challenges that you might
20:25
face during the day. Like, how am
20:28
I going to handle this? Oh, OK. I pulled
20:30
this card this morning. Hey, I pulled the death
20:32
card today.
20:33
Cool. I'm not even sure why I did pull the death
20:35
card today. And we'll talk about it because
20:38
a lot of folks don't understand that not
20:40
every card is literal. When
20:43
you go into Terra, it is about interpretation.
20:46
But I am very curious, you know, for you,
20:48
what's your Marvel origin
20:50
story? Like, how did you get into
20:52
Marvel? Because you have to understand
20:55
a certain amount about the universe, and
20:57
you have to understand a certain amount about the characters
21:00
to kind of dig into building
21:04
a Terra
21:05
deck. Well,
21:07
so
21:09
I was brought in by
21:12
Rizzoli
21:12
and Marvel to
21:15
write the deck after the
21:17
fabulous Willie McDonald because
21:19
we can't have this conversation without mentioning
21:21
Lily. She's an amazing artist. And
21:24
the set, in case people haven't
21:26
seen the artwork, it
21:29
is an Art Nouveau style,
21:32
very much El Fon Smuka.
21:35
And Lily is just an
21:37
amazing artist. So everybody got to
21:39
pick
21:40
that up to take a look at Lily's
21:42
artwork. But I've been
21:44
in comics
21:46
truly for 30 years. So
21:49
I
21:49
always loved Marvel. So
21:52
when a friend of mine
21:54
recommended to Rizzoli,
21:59
should write this.
22:01
They asked me, I said, of course, of
22:03
course. And
22:06
that makes the guidebook a lot
22:08
different than other pop culture. Carol's
22:10
sets and guidebooks,
22:13
it is a little bit meatier, and
22:16
it does really blend
22:18
the character
22:22
with how the character represents
22:24
that particular card. And
22:26
the cards, you know, I love the fact that in
22:28
the book, there's like these
22:30
beautiful quotes that represent who the character
22:33
is, that like sets up going
22:35
into the interpretation of the cards
22:38
and breaking down why this
22:41
character was there, why this
22:43
character really represents what
22:45
this card represents before
22:47
it goes into, all right,
22:50
was it upright or was it reversed? How
22:52
does this really go into your reading?
22:55
And so for you, what kind of research
22:57
did you really have to do? Because you've been in comics for
22:59
a while, but this is really in
23:01
depth. And when you talk about
23:04
you're bringing in some quotes
23:06
from across the
23:09
Marvel Universe and across
23:11
decades. I also
23:13
have to say
23:15
Spider-Man and Mary Jane as the lovers.
23:17
Shout out to Lily. It's
23:19
just beautiful. You know,
23:22
what kind of research did you really have to do to kind
23:24
of make sure you felt like
23:26
you were getting this just right?
23:29
Yeah, a lot of research actually, especially
23:31
with the quotes. So I worked,
23:34
you know, I did
23:35
a very basic outline, and then I started
23:37
filling the outline in. And as I said,
23:42
I wanted to make it, I wanted to
23:44
make this guidebook different than other pop
23:46
culture guidebooks. So
23:49
that's where the quotes
23:51
came in. So when I talked
23:54
to
23:55
the publishers about doing
23:57
that,
23:58
yeah, let's do it. Cool.
23:59
So I
24:02
really looked at a lot of different
24:04
quotes. And
24:08
I ran, you know, we ran everything past
24:10
Marvel, of course, and everybody,
24:13
you know, had their input.
24:14
So
24:17
yeah, some quotes we went back and
24:19
forth with, but that took a
24:21
little while, but I, as you said,
24:23
Angelique, I wanted to make sure
24:26
that the quote represented the
24:29
character and also the spirit
24:31
of the card
24:32
as well.
24:33
So it took a while, it
24:35
took a while.
24:36
So for you, I think you've kind
24:38
of broken down a little bit about what Terra
24:40
means for you and how you've integrated that
24:42
practice into your life, but for folks
24:44
who are just getting acclimated,
24:47
or again, who may have just seen some
24:50
of the tropes, some of the stereotypes, what
24:52
do you think people and skeptics
24:54
get wrong about Terra
24:56
and Terra readings?
24:58
Oh my God. Well, first of
24:59
all, I think
25:02
people go, oh my God, it's Terra, I'm
25:04
scared.
25:05
No, don't be scared.
25:07
Secondly is, oh my God, Terra is so
25:10
complicated. No, not really.
25:12
I mean, it has rules,
25:14
rules where
25:16
I should say guidelines, guidelines
25:19
of what each of the cards represent,
25:22
you know, whether it's major or minor, but
25:25
each card is subject to interpretation.
25:28
And that's really the spirit of Terra, because
25:32
again, it acts as a
25:34
guide post.
25:38
Each card acts as,
25:39
you know, your hand-in-hand guide to
25:42
that day
25:44
or just advice.
25:46
It's like, I'm
25:48
just talking to yourself, but
25:50
really it's tapping into your inner self,
25:53
but
25:53
like just
25:57
the one spirit also. Like
26:00
the universal spirit. So I
26:03
do think everybody's connected. Um,
26:06
so
26:09
You know there there's that too so
26:12
Yeah, you can be waiting for yourself.
26:14
You can be waiting for somebody else, but there's
26:16
always gonna be
26:18
that moment where you go Yeah,
26:21
yeah, I can see I can see how this
26:23
affects me or I can see how this
26:25
affects anybody else, too
26:27
so I'm
26:29
really curious because in
26:31
looking at the book. I'm starting to get this beautiful
26:34
preview of the
26:37
minor arcana and just look
26:39
it's Squirrel
26:41
girl has a card How
26:44
did I go about deciding
26:48
What characters are used because of course
26:50
you've got the major arcana
26:52
which you know, I see you Moon
26:55
Knight, you know galactus
26:58
low-key You got some really
27:00
hard hitters, but you know, the Marvel
27:02
Universe is pretty large And so, you
27:05
know when we get into the minor I start
27:07
seeing a little bit of Jane Foster's
27:09
helmet We've got a couple different
27:12
ones in here, you know
27:13
Luke Cage
27:15
and Iron Fist like what were
27:18
the decisions?
27:20
Kind of looking at what
27:22
Characters were going
27:24
to be the perfect fit. I
27:27
think everybody had their own ideas Some
27:29
some were more obvious
27:31
than others like dr. Strange
27:34
the magician Yeah, there
27:36
was no debate on that same thing with Deadpool
27:38
cool. No debate fair, you know
27:40
I don't think you know, there were a lot
27:43
of a
27:44
Lot of those instances
27:46
other instances we we actually created
27:48
a grid I should say Ellie Johnson the
27:51
associate or assistant
27:53
editor at
27:56
Rizzoli she created a grid for everybody
27:58
and
27:59
you know, that's how we plotted everything
28:02
out.
28:02
And, you
28:04
know, once we did, everybody had input.
28:06
I did,
28:08
Jess and Lily did, Ellie
28:10
did, and of
28:12
course the folks at Marvel. So
28:15
we all work as this amazing
28:17
team. And so I,
28:20
you know, it wasn't,
28:22
I can't take the credit.
28:24
We're the blame. For
28:28
any characters or symbology,
28:30
it really was
28:32
a group effort. And yeah, and some,
28:37
you know, some cards were easier to
28:39
write than
28:40
others. You
28:42
know, for me, when I was writing
28:45
the
28:45
suit, a sword, it was
28:48
painful
28:50
because
28:51
you're a tarot
28:53
user.
28:53
And anybody who uses
28:56
tarot knows that the
28:58
sword
28:58
suit is
29:00
pretty depressing. It's pretty,
29:03
you know, it's
29:05
sharp, you know, it's pointy. That's
29:07
what it is. It's cut and it's painful.
29:11
So yeah,
29:13
that was tough. That was
29:16
probably
29:16
the toughest
29:20
suit
29:20
that I wrote. Yeah.
29:23
You know, and I love that
29:25
you painstakingly went
29:28
through and made sure it was
29:31
amazing. Also never going
29:33
to be upset when
29:35
the star is Monica
29:38
Rambo
29:38
ever in life. So
29:41
I'm curious, I got to know somebody
29:44
gets this deck. It's in this beautiful,
29:47
beautiful, beautiful packaging.
29:51
It's just absolutely gorgeous
29:53
and detailed. Again, I
29:55
want to say it's a 78 card tarot
29:57
deck. It comes with
29:59
this gorgeous guy.
29:59
It's got so
30:01
many characters in it. There's a decorative
30:04
gift
30:04
box.
30:05
They pull it out of the gift
30:06
box.
30:08
They do their shuffle. They
30:10
mix it around. They ask their
30:12
question.
30:14
What do they do next?
30:16
So this is what I do. So, you
30:19
know, instead of just, you know, ripping
30:21
up in the cellophane and opening the box, you
30:24
know, you really have to sit in
30:27
a quiet place, center
30:29
yourself,
30:30
and go through
30:32
the entire
30:36
sort of inner
30:39
chakra journey. But what I like
30:41
to do is wake up the cards.
30:43
You need to knock on the cards a few
30:45
times. I put
30:48
it to my forehead
30:50
and to my heart
30:52
and, you know, to my abdomen.
30:54
And
30:55
that's when you can start, you
30:57
know, and then you can shuffle.
31:00
You know, you divide everything, mix
31:03
them up again, and then just sit.
31:06
Just sit, you know, don't be in
31:08
a rush.
31:09
Spread them out in front of you.
31:12
And then
31:13
what I do, I hold my hands
31:16
above the cards
31:17
and just go back and forth.
31:20
And for
31:23
first-time
31:23
users or maybe novices,
31:27
you know, if you feel like tingling in
31:29
your fingertips or feet
31:31
in your palms, it's
31:33
really not your imagination.
31:35
Something's calling to you and don't
31:37
ignore it. So
31:40
pull that card. And if
31:42
it's a one-card pull, awesome. If
31:44
it's not, if you're using one of the spreads
31:46
in the book,
31:50
you know, do that and be really
31:52
thoughtful. When you're doing it prior
31:54
to
31:55
that, you really
31:57
have to.
31:59
focus in on the issue
32:02
at hand for
32:03
the question.
32:05
And really, really concentrate and be
32:07
thoughtful about it.
32:09
And that's when you
32:11
keep the quote.
32:13
I love it. I love it. This is amazing.
32:17
Well, I am so excited for folks to pick
32:19
up this book and pick up this deck,
32:21
open it up. I'm encouraging everybody
32:24
when they get it, take pictures,
32:27
tag us. Let
32:29
us know what your favorite cards are. I mean,
32:31
do you have a favorite card?
32:34
I do. It
32:36
really is the death card.
32:37
It really is the
32:39
death card.
32:43
And that's what I pulled today,
32:46
which is pretty cool. And it's
32:48
Jean Grey Phoenix. And I think
32:50
when people look at the death card, they go,
32:52
oh my god, the death card. I'm doomed.
32:55
And it's not that at all. It's really
32:58
about
32:58
transformation and change.
33:00
So if you pull the death
33:03
card as
33:04
a single card, as
33:06
part of your spread, whatever
33:08
you're doing,
33:09
that's what it is. Change is a common.
33:12
And that's what change
33:14
is common, whether you want it to or not.
33:18
So this
33:19
is giving you a heads up. Hi.
33:21
We're going to heads up.
33:22
I'm here. Yeah. And it's coming. So
33:26
get on board with it and
33:28
be a part of it or don't. And
33:32
if you decide not to, it's going to
33:34
hurt. So just
33:37
go along with it and see what you can
33:39
do to
33:41
move along with it. Just flow with
33:43
it. But
33:44
death card is always really exciting.
33:46
Well, for those who are picking
33:49
this up, you can
33:51
go into this
33:53
amazing guidebook. There's an introduction. There's an
33:55
understanding. The deck, the suit,
33:58
it does break down care.
33:59
and preparing for readings,
34:01
and a little
34:03
bit of some of the breakdowns
34:06
of the different polls that you can do here as
34:08
well. And
34:11
so, because I know it breaks down at least
34:13
the one card, the three card, the
34:16
five card, and
34:20
the six
34:21
card poll in the book.
34:23
So
34:24
I encourage everybody to
34:26
go pick this up. This is absolutely wonderful. Thank
34:28
you so much for being
34:31
on This Week in Marvel.
34:33
Thank you. I really
34:35
appreciate it, and I hope everybody loves
34:37
the tarot set.
34:42
That was Cindy Barwick. The Marvel Tarot
34:44
Deck and Guidebook are available now wherever
34:46
books are sold. They are gorgeous.
34:50
Well, I think it's that time again,
34:53
Ryan
34:53
Penagos.
34:54
It is time for Community, AKA
34:57
This Week in Messages.
34:58
Now, I mentioned our guest
35:00
next week is going to be Stephanie Phillips, coming
35:03
on to chat about Cap Wolf, which
35:05
is going to be very good. But right now, we're
35:08
going to be coming out of New York Comic Con, so
35:10
I thought a fun thing for us, for
35:12
y'all listening, will
35:15
be the question of the week could be, what
35:17
Marvel Comics news coming out of New York Comic Con
35:19
are you most hyped for? Oh,
35:22
I'm excited. Make sure you're
35:24
checking out everything that's coming out of New York Comic Con,
35:26
whether on Marvel.com or all of the
35:28
social media channels at Marvel.
35:31
And then tweet your answers using
35:34
hashtag ThisWeekInMarvel, email
35:36
them to twimpodcasts at Marvel.com, or
35:38
send a message to our Facebook page at Facebook.com
35:42
slash ThisWeekInMarvel. And
35:44
please make sure you tell us if it is OK
35:47
to read Twim
35:48
on the show. All right, like
35:51
you did this week, because last week's
35:53
question of the week, which y'all answered was, which
35:55
Marvel character would you like to receive a tarot
35:57
reading from? So. First
36:01
up was Overlord of underscore
36:03
evil who said first choice Agatha
36:05
Harkness, runner-up, Scarlet Witch. Solid,
36:09
solid choices. Cardona
36:11
Cecile at Cardona Cecile.
36:14
Loki, I would like to receive a tarot
36:17
reading from Loki. With his power
36:19
he could see inside my mind as clear as
36:21
day. His tarot reading would be so
36:23
interesting, intense, insane, deeply
36:25
touching, maybe funny,
36:27
smiley face. Wow,
36:30
all right, there was a bunch of
36:32
Loki of course in there. I think the
36:34
time is right. WWU Stacey
36:36
Strong NXT at SJB479
36:39
said simply Spider-Man but they
36:42
also used an animated gif of Spider-Man
36:45
laying saucyly on the train tracks
36:48
from the 60s animated series. As soon
36:50
as I say it you know exactly what I'm talking about.
36:52
One of the greatest gifs is all time. So A
36:54
plus right there. Christie
36:57
at Eurydices said Gambit
36:59
from that time in X-Men number 164
37:01
when he lost his sight and could read his cards
37:04
like tarot cards. I would be very
37:06
interested in sitting in front of a
37:08
pensive brooding Gambit for a
37:10
few minutes. Just
37:13
a few minutes? Just
37:15
a few minutes? Yeah shout out to Forte
37:18
Forte at Forte underscore Forte who
37:20
also said Gambit.
37:22
Yeah because he's
37:24
that dude. All right so emails
37:27
from wonderful listener Heather
37:29
and the fam. Hey Heather and
37:31
fam. As an aside
37:34
the marble loving which is so stoked
37:37
someone is making marble tarot
37:39
cards. The oracle cards are good.
37:41
I use them weekday mornings to
37:43
do a daily card pull.
37:46
Yep but to have a full
37:48
major and minor arcana deck is next
37:50
level. The swords as Wolverine's
37:53
claws I mean perfect. Now
37:55
I have to play Midnight Suns for a third
37:57
time and recollect all those tarot cards.
37:59
to compare
38:01
which major arcana matches with the
38:03
deck and the game and what a deck
38:06
