1:11

Hello, Marbleites. You're listening

1:13

to This Week in Marble, episode number 630. I'm

1:16

Ryan Penagos, aka Agent M.

1:18

And I'm Lorraine Cink. Get

1:20

into it, suckers. I'm back. Yay!

1:24

Pew, pew, pew, pew. Yeah,

1:26

all the pews. Hi, Lorraine.

1:29

Hi, Ryan. How's it going,

1:31

man? How you doing? So

1:33

I scooped up a dead pigeon off my driveway

1:35

this morning. Other than that, super. Wow.

1:38

So besides a dark omen in the morning,

1:40

solid. Ooh,

1:42

yeah. But that's not what we're here for.

1:45

No, no, no, no, no. Because this is the official

1:47

Marvel podcast where we get to talk about all the things

1:49

happening this week in Marvel. Heck, yeah.

1:51

And there's a whole lot going on. Of

1:54

course, stick around because a little later, our

1:56

pal Angélique Roché, who's often

1:59

on the show when I am not,

1:59

I'm maybe not here, is going

2:02

to chat with Jason Lowe about

2:04

his upcoming work on Infinity

2:06

Paws and The Sentry. Bum,

2:09

bum, bum.

2:10

Indeed. But, Lorraine,

2:12

you know what? It's never too early

2:14

to plan for Free Comic Book

2:17

Day. Free Comic Book Day? That's in May.

2:19

That's right. You are correct. It

2:21

is one of the biggest days in the

2:23

history of everyone's lives, and it's next

2:26

year, it's going to be on May 4th, 2024. You

2:29

can say, may the 4th be with you

2:32

at every comic book shop you go to. But

2:35

we are rocking and rolling next year with five

2:38

free comic book day titles, which

2:41

is really cool because we're going to have stuff that's leading

2:43

into the big crossover event, Blood Hunt.

2:45

We're going to be getting you into the post-Kirkhoven

2:48

era of X-Men, Ultimate Universe, so much

2:50

more. Again, this is May 4th, 2024. A

2:53

little taste of what's to come. There's going

2:56

to be the Spider-Man and the Ultimate Universe

2:58

book, which will, the

3:00

Spider-Man side of it, a little taste

3:02

of the return of the goblin. Bum,

3:06

bum, bum. And then some

3:09

hints at what's coming up in the Ultimate Universe, but also,

3:11

we're teasing that there are going to be

3:13

surprises in there. I don't know what

3:15

those are yet.

3:16

Maybe a new hero is going to debut? I don't

3:18

know. Or...

3:20

Hold onto your hats. Yeah, or a villain, or a

3:22

toothbrush. I don't know. Could be

3:24

any of that. Also coming up

3:26

on Free Comic Book Day, Blood

3:29

Hunt slash X-Men number one, written by Jen McKay

3:31

and Gail Simone, with art by

3:33

Sarah Pekeli and David Marquez. It's

3:35

going to be the overture to the

3:38

summer's big crossover event starring the Avengers,

3:40

Blood Hunt, which sounds like fun

3:42

for me to read and not fun for them. So

3:45

definitely looking forward to that. Plus, we're going to see some

3:47

future for Mutant Kind as Jubilee

3:49

learns that you can't

3:52

go home again, but can

3:54

you go home again? I guess not.

3:56

I'm excited

3:58

for everybody to see what the X-Office is doing.

3:59

cooking up the new Ex Office. But that's again

4:02

in May 2024. We've

4:04

also got a Marvel's Voices issue coming

4:07

where we're going to get a brand new story

4:09

starring Spider-Man India. We're

4:12

going to discover the legacy of the last Black

4:14

Panther. We're going to see Webweaver

4:16

and a Spider-Gwen story

4:20

plus a different kind of look

4:22

at the X-Men. So a lot of fun stories in that.

4:24

We got Star Wars Darth Vader number one for

4:27

May the 4th as well. It's going

4:29

to feature my favorite Star Wars planet,

4:32

Hah. Luke and Leia

4:34

and Lando and Chewbacca are going

4:36

on a dangerous rescue mission at the Echo

4:38

Base.

4:39

I think this is the first time we've done a

4:41

Star Wars free comic book day book. So it's very exciting.

4:45

And then for all of us with kiddos,

4:48

we have a Spidey and his amazing friends

4:50

free comic book day issue, which is always a delight

4:52

in my house. You know, there's like reading

4:54

skill things in there, activity pages,

4:57

plus comic book stuff, getting kids

4:59

sort of acclimated with reading

5:01

comics. It's delightful.

5:02

Yeah. And just remember reading

5:05

comic books is reading

5:08

and it can really help kids developmentally

5:10

having pictures to help them understand. It's

5:12

just a picture book. It's just like a storybook.

5:16

You can read it at bedtime and it's free.

5:18

What is it? What is it? Haam. Yeah,

5:20

exactly. Give all your five year

5:22

olds alien or predator. No, no, no, no,

5:25

no,

5:25

no, not those. No, no, no, no, not those. No, the kid

5:27

friendly ones like Spidey and his amazing friends.

5:30

That's where we, that's where we like to keep these.

5:32

I have to take some books out of Catherine's room.

5:34

I'll be probably, yeah, I'll do that later.

5:36

But let's also talk about a, an

5:39

announcement we just got recently for a new Spider

5:41

punk series, which is delightful.

5:44

Our pal Cody Ziegler is writing it

5:46

again with art by Justin Nason. Again,

5:48

they're teaming back up as they were the creative

5:51

team for the spider punk series. And now we've got

5:53

a new one launching February 2024.

5:56

If you saw that they like took on Norman

5:59

Osborne. And so in this. new one, there's

6:01

a world without Norman Osborn and Spider-Punk

6:04

reigns. But Justin

6:07

Hammer and Dr. Otto Octavius

6:09

have other plans like introducing the

6:11

world to the spider slaying

6:14

sentinels. Slay. Slay.

6:18

Here to tell us more about this run and whether

6:20

we can expect a new Spider-Punk playlist is

6:22

writer Cody Ziegler.

6:23

Justin and I have been talking about how

6:25

much we've loved the Spider-Punk world since, I mean

6:28

honestly since we first started writing the first volume.

6:31

And when Spider-Verse came out and the sequel

6:33

came out and people lost their minds over Hobie.

6:37

And so it just sort of exploded overnight where people

6:39

loved Hobie and they wanted

6:41

to read more Spider-Punk and Battle

6:43

of the Band. The trade paperbacks just sold

6:46

out everywhere. It was crazy. So

6:48

me and Justin were like, hey, this seems like the perfect excuse

6:50

for us to bully Marvel into letting us do

6:53

another tour with these guys basically.

6:55

So we instantly started

6:57

emailing and texting Danny Kazam, our editor from the

7:00

first one and we're like, hey Danny, you got so much

7:02

fun ideas. It would be really cool to springboard

7:05

out this popularity of Spider-Punk

7:07

and let us do another round. And he was like, yes

7:09

of course. And then literally a week later

7:11

me and Justin were outlining and sending

7:13

pictures to references to one another. It

7:16

was like I truly have been wanting to do this for so long.

7:18

I love Hobie. I love Miles. And

7:20

for the first Spider-Punk I made a playlist of basically a

7:22

lot of songs I listened to growing up.

7:25

I definitely envisioned myself as like I

7:27

played in punk bands. I was listening to punk music and stuff

7:29

as a kid. So I put a lot of music

7:31

that I listened to. With some newer stuff

7:33

I had gone into and sort of like get

7:35

in the headspace and after it was done I

7:37

was just talking to Danny. I was like, hey, I

7:40

did all this work for like, I

7:42

just like people can listen to it like a supplemental

7:44

material. It seems like it'd be a fun,

7:46

I don't know, like little bonus for listeners

7:49

to listen to. When Spider-Verse

7:51

came out it went from like 200 likes to like 90,000

7:53

or something crazy. So

7:56

people seemed to really enjoy it. I

8:00

made another volume two for my

8:02

own personal self that I also gave to Justin and Danny

8:04

to sort of get the vibe. And once the book

8:06

actually comes out, that also too will be removed

8:09

from private so people can enjoy that as well. It's

8:11

a mix of some stuff that I listened to earlier,

8:14

like when I was younger, but also this one has,

8:16

I think has more, definitely

8:18

I think more contemporary bands on it. And

8:21

also there's definitely a bigger focus that, you

8:23

know, without spoiling it, like there's definitely

8:25

more black and

8:27

queer and women-fronted punk bands

8:29

on this. That's what it plays into the narrative of the

8:32

actual story. So I'm just excited for people to like, I

8:34

also am excited for people that have never listened

8:36

to that much punk to like discover a bunch of awesome

8:39

new bands and hopefully begin their own like

8:41

little experience or little journey into punk

8:44

music.

8:45

I am pumped.

8:47

Yes. Spider Punk returns this

8:49

February. To learn more, head to marvel.com.

8:52

But right now let's tell you about what's happening this week

8:54

in Marvel Move. Of course, it

8:56

is the wonderful audio storytelling and fitness

8:59

experience. We've got a new story

9:01

this week, Captain America Turkey Trot.

9:04

It's a one-shot episode starring,

9:07

you guessed it,

9:08

Captain America. Dressed as

9:10

a turkey? No.

9:12

This is a Thanksgiving

9:14

themed episode as Captain America

9:16

gets caught up in a whole bunch of chaos, has

9:19

to stop some crime that's happening during

9:21

the massive Thanksgiving Day parade

9:24

in New York City. And you help Cap

9:26

as he chases after Batroc Zilibar.

9:30

And we work in some fun appearances of Ziggy

9:32

Pig and Silly Seal, as well as

9:34

Jeff the Land Shark, which makes me

9:36

so happy. It's a real delight. Like,

9:40

Batroc is being a real goofball

9:42

on this one in the best way possible.

9:44

You got it for the turkey trot. I know.

9:46

We also have Thor and Loki

9:48

trials of the 10 realms episode 14, trickery

9:51

and subterfuge as you and the Asgardian

9:53

bros go sneaky sneaky into

9:55

the heart of Jotunheim. There's magic, mischief,

9:58

and it's a good time. Good episode. Of

10:01

course, Marvel Move is only available

13:05

All right. Next up we got the heat

13:08

its own in Hell's Kitchen It's

13:11

toasty and it's spinning

13:13

out of Amazing Spider-Man Marvel

13:15

Comics new gang war crossover

13:17

event is coming next month and

13:20

here to talk about Daredevil's involvement

13:22

is

13:22

Writer Erica Schultz.

13:24

Hello Erica, so

13:26

last time you joined us on twim

13:29

you you were sly you hinted a little

13:32

bit about Your upcoming

13:34

gang war series for Daredevil

13:37

But for those who might have missed our

13:39

announcements or the hoopla and all that stuff

13:41

we're getting ready for it Tell us about this

13:43

book.

13:44

So basically all of the

13:47

gang lords from all over the

13:49

five boroughs are pretty

13:51

much vying for who's gonna

13:53

be king or queen of the hell and

13:55

With the anti

13:57

vigilante law still in place even

13:59

though

13:59

Luke Cage is the mayor.

14:02

Peter is

14:05

putting together, Peter Parker is putting together

14:07

a group of heroes to

14:10

take a section and of course Electra

14:13

Daredevil will be taking Hell's Kitchen to kick

14:16

some ass.

14:17

Kick some butt.

14:19

No, ass. All the ass. He's kicking

14:21

all the ass. How

14:24

does this specifically fit into

14:27

that the larger gang war narrative? You know where

14:30

like you say she's in Hell's Kitchen but do

14:32

we have a specific you

14:34

know antagonist for her that she's going up against

14:36

that we can talk

14:37

about? She has two different

14:40

two different evil doers coming from

14:42

different sides. One is a gang

14:45

called the Heat that Saladin Ahmed and

14:47

Aaron Kooter are feeding in the

14:50

current Daredevil with Matt and

14:53

then there is this new assassin

14:55

who is kind of a chaos agent.

14:58

Her entire being is to

15:00

basically try and throw Electra

15:02

off her scent and to basically

15:05

make Electra falter because

15:08

if you were reading the previous

15:10

run of Daredevil by Chip

15:12

Zdarsky and Marco

15:14

Ceccetto, Electra

15:16

made a promise to Matt that she

15:18

would never kill and this

15:21

assassin is really gonna test

15:23

that promise.

15:25

Oh I like that. I mean

15:27

she's been through a lot. She's you know

15:30

all the stuff with Matt, all the stuff with the fist and that

15:32

kind of stuff. I feel like she's

15:34

in a very interesting place for you to

15:36

pick her up here.

15:37

Yeah she is. I mean she

15:40

and Matt were the king queen of the fist.

15:42

Matt defeated the beast in hell and

15:45

when Matt came back he had amnesia

15:47

so she's sort of on her own now

15:50

and having made this new promise

15:52

and having sort of you know I mean Electra

15:55

has been reborn metaphysically

15:58

and physically and literally and

16:00

figuratively so many times

16:03

that she really

16:05

is sort of finding herself again. She

16:07

wants to keep the promise to Matt and she wants

16:09

to keep the promise to herself. But

16:12

unfortunately, evil is going to push buttons

16:14

and push her in some directions she

16:17

might not like.

16:17

Evil going to evil. That's the

16:19

way it goes. Evil going to evil, yes. All right.

16:22

Finally, what are you most excited to explore

16:24

for fans to find out to experience

16:27

in this book?

16:28

I'm really excited about exploring

16:31

Electra. I think that she is a

16:33

fascinating character. I think

16:35

that she's never been this sort of shrinking

16:38

violet. And I love that about her. And

16:41

I think that she is just a hell

16:43

of a strong character just in general. And I'm really

16:46

excited to be able to sort of add to the lore.

16:49

And I have to say that working with Sergio de Villa

16:51

and Sean Parsons and Cece de

16:53

la Cruz, the pages that

16:55

are coming in are just mind

16:58

blowing. This is like

17:00

top, top notch art. And I always joke,

17:02

if you hate the writing, just look at the pretty picture.

17:05

But really, it's beautiful, beautiful

17:07

work that they're doing. And

17:10

again, we're just trying to push the boundaries

17:12

a bit. And hopefully set up

17:14

Electra for a new normal.

17:16

I like that. I got to ask, you mentioned

17:18

Sergio and beautiful art and stuff. How's

17:21

Electra's hair? What's it looking like? Is it like, Marco

17:23

did this big, amazing, beautiful,

17:25

curly hair that took up half the page and

17:27

we love it. We love to see it. What's

17:29

she looking like? We are having the Dark Phoenix

17:31

giant hair. Yeah.

17:36

The hair where you're like, how

17:38

does it humanly fit underneath that Daredevil helmet?

17:40

It doesn't matter. It's gorgeous. It

17:42

is gorgeous. And it is flowing. And

17:45

it is just like, it's almost like, I

17:48

think the way that Marco had drawn her and the way that

17:52

Sergio is drawing her, and I believe Erin as well,

17:55

is this idea of like, she's almost like Medusa with

17:57

this hair. You know, like you want the hair. to

18:00

be, you know, tendrils that can,

18:02

you know, prehensile tendrils kind

18:05

of thing.

18:05

Curly hair don't care. We love to see it. We are very

18:08

excited about Daredevil Gang War.

18:10

Thank you, Erika. Thank

18:11

you so much. All right, sounds

18:14

like it's gonna be warm. Daredevil

18:16

Gang War number one is out December 13th.

18:20

To learn more, head over to Marvel.com

18:22

or go pick it up in your local comic shop.

18:25

Yeah, actually, there's three

18:28

Gang War issues coming out next week. The,

18:30

like, the kickoff, Spider-Man

18:33

issue, and a couple more. And there's

18:35

even some Gang War action that happens

18:38

in this week's comics. But let's get into our

18:40

picks of the week, my picks of the week. Lorraine,

18:43

I know you are a busy, busy

18:46

woman with a tiny, tiny human to take

18:48

care of, tinier than mine. So

18:50

I will, I will, I will take a stab

18:52

at these picks of the week, starting with Carnage

18:55

number one, which is ferocious.

18:58

It is written by our friend Torin Grunbeck

19:00

with art by Pere Pérez. So

19:03

beautiful, so disgusting

19:06

and gruesome and nasty and

19:08

vicious and violent.

19:11

Just warm you up for the holidays. That's what you want in

19:13

a Carnage

19:13

comic, though. I mean, literally, you know,

19:16

it truly is. It's bringing Carnage sort of back,

19:18

doing some new things with it, but getting right

19:21

down to it. It's a great

19:23

issue. That's all, that's all I can say about it. It's

19:25

a great issue. But also

19:27

we've got Incredible Hulk number six is one of my

19:29

picks of the week. This is the first part of the Spirits of

19:32

Vengeance arc, written by Philip Kennedy

19:34

Johnson. Gorgeous art by Nick Klein

19:36

and Matthew Wilson. And it introduces,

19:39

I think it's an intro, yeah, pretty

19:41

sure it's an introduction of a new, old

19:43

Ghost Rider. A Ghost Rider kind of World War

19:46

II era. Very

19:48

cool look. There's this sequence

19:51

within the issue of Bruce Banner transforming

19:53

into Hulk and it is so gnarly.

19:55

It is really

19:57

good.

19:59

If you like gruesome body

20:02

horror stuff and nasty baddies

20:04

and big, big thumping Hulk,

20:07

it's a good book for you. And then my third

20:09

pick is Wolverine number 39 written by

20:11

Benjamin Percy, art by Juan Jose

20:14

Rip and colors by Frank Darmada.

20:17

This one has Wolverine going to

20:19

Wakanda and dealing

20:21

with some bad guys who are trying to steal

20:23

some stuff. There's a guy who eats a gun and

20:25

I was like, whoa, that's gnarly. But

20:28

you get a team up between Logan

20:30

and T'Challa and it's a really cool sequence.

20:33

Logan is like, basically almost

20:36

gets punched in the face by being like, you messed

20:38

up with Storm twice, bro. And

20:41

T'Challa is like, and it's like too, too close

20:43

to the bone. Yeah, it's really

20:46

it's a wonderful issue. It

20:48

gives you a little sense of what's going on in Black Panther's

20:50

world if you're not reading that book. Really

20:53

excellent stuff.

20:54

Great choices all around. And now

20:56

I know what to read first when I finally

20:58

catch up with my stack this week. But

21:02

we have even more goodness for you folks.

21:04

We are joined by Jason Lowe as he talks

21:06

with our pal Anjali Grosha about the

21:08

new Century series he's writing

21:11

coming up in just a moment.

21:54

Hey you're listening to This Week in Marvel. I'm

21:56

Ryan Penagos.

21:57

And I'm Lorraine Cink. Woo!

21:58

Before the break, Angelique

22:01

is about to join us to interview

22:03

Jason Lowe, a just ding-dang

22:06

delight of a human being. He's also

22:09

the writer-artist of many comics, including

22:11

a ton of Infinity comics such as Lucky

22:14

the Pizza Dog, Marvel Meow and Pizza Dog,

22:16

X-Men Unlimited, Great Arc with

22:19

Strong Guy and Mad Rocks, and

22:21

so much more. But

22:23

enough

22:24

from me. Take it away, Angelique. Thanks

22:26

Ryan.

22:29

I'm Angelique Rocher and

22:32

I am totally geeked

22:34

because I'm joined by writer

22:36

and artist, incredibly

22:39

dope human being, Jason Lowe. Jason,

22:43

we've talked before, but for

22:45

the folks who may not know about

22:48

this, you know, tell us about your Marvel

22:50

origin story. Yeah, I guess

22:52

like my earliest memories of, well, I

22:54

guess visiting the

22:56

comic book spinners at my

22:59

local convenience store and

23:02

picking up New Mutants, issue

23:04

number 54, because Cannonball looked

23:08

like a G.I. Joe character to me and

23:10

I was a big G.I. Joe fan when I was four

23:13

and that was my gateway

23:15

into Marvel

23:17

Comics and it was my first

23:19

exposure to the Hellfire

23:22

Club and a very saucy

23:24

looking Celine

23:26

and Tessa, you know, at the age of four.

23:31

And then followed that was the X-Men

23:33

trading cards, the X-Men

23:35

cartoons, and then that whole

23:38

X-Men synergy of the action

23:40

figures and the arcade

23:42

game. So all that like

23:44

made me a big X-Men fan.

23:46

Oh, all right. So now

23:49

this is what you do for a living. When

23:52

do you decide one that all right,

23:54

I love comics, I love

23:56

these characters, I want to make my own

23:58

characters, I want to use this

24:01

medium of comics

24:03

to tell

24:04

my stories? Well, that

24:06

came when I was like 13 years old,

24:08

I think. A friend of mine, he

24:10

went to art school and

24:13

he was telling me that he made his own mini

24:15

comic and he was selling

24:17

them for 50 cents to his classmates

24:19

in the cafeteria. I was like, that's pretty

24:22

neat that you made your own

24:24

book and he showed me

24:26

the craft on how to make it. And that's when

24:28

I decided to do my own thing in my

24:31

own school and do the same thing. And

24:33

then eventually I became

24:36

friends with like-minded people where we fed

24:38

off that same passion

24:41

of storytelling. But I became even

24:44

more so passionate to keep that going

24:46

through college and even after college.

24:49

But

24:49

I love that because you've continued to

24:51

step up and you continue to work on

24:54

really cool projects. Obviously

24:56

you mentioned

24:57

Infinity Paws.

24:59

Uh-huh.

25:00

It's so amazing.

25:02

You know, I can't believe

25:04

how it started was like,

25:07

I think it was like late 2021 and

25:11

editor Caitlin O'Connell, she asked

25:13

me if I'd be interested in doing a Lucky

25:15

the Pizza Dog Infinity comic. And

25:18

then from there, it became, hey, would you

25:20

want to do a Marlboro Meow

25:22

in Lucky's Pizza Dog? And

25:24

then a Cosmo the Space Dog.

25:26

So I'm

25:28

creating this little niche of

25:31

like telling these Marlboro

25:33

pet stories.

25:35

These are very important, Jason

25:37

Lowe. These

25:38

are very important. Yes,

25:40

especially knowing that

25:43

there's a big fan base for us, especially

25:45

Jeff the Landshark, which is

25:48

huge. I'm very honored

25:50

to play with all these characters, especially

25:53

Jeff the Landshark for the first time. So

25:55

it's going to be lots of fun.

25:57

Oh, man. And it's one of those

25:59

things.

25:59

where

26:01

this whole idea of anthropomorphic

26:03

superheroes, this whole idea

26:05

of the tippy

26:07

toe, of the lock jaw, of the Cosmo,

26:09

of Lucky the Pizza Dog,

26:12

because come on. I mean,

26:14

even when you talk about flurkins, right?

26:19

So, as

26:20

you've kind of jumped into

26:22

Infinity Paws, you've obviously

26:25

had a great reception. When

26:27

you are now presented, here is

26:29

Earth's mighty

26:33

paw venders. How

26:37

do you

26:38

figure out what direction you go in at that point?

26:41

Well, it was

26:43

really funny that

26:46

when Caitlin O'Connell proposed

26:48

this idea for me to write this

26:51

new series, I was

26:54

about to prepare for

26:56

my trip to Turkey. And

26:58

if you don't know much about Turkey, like

27:01

Turkey is filled with lots

27:04

of street cats, lots

27:06

of street dogs. So,

27:08

they get a lot of communal

27:11

support from all the local

27:13

businesses and neighborhoods

27:15

over there. So, I went on this

27:17

vacation, like lying

27:20

on the beach, and I'm

27:22

surrounded by all these neighborhood

27:25

cats and dogs around me. So,

27:28

like inspiration was everywhere for me,

27:31

which was amazing. It was just

27:33

such great timing. Beach

27:35

dogs just chilling on the

27:37

same beach chair as me, like just making

27:40

themselves very comfortable right next

27:42

to me every morning.

27:44

Jason Lowe, lover of animals.

27:46

Oh, how can you not? They're

27:49

so adorable.

27:51

Oh, like.

27:52

Because you have a very special

27:54

paw friend yourself.

27:56

I do, I do. And he is the

27:58

inspiration of. Cole

28:01

who made an appearance in Marvel

28:03

Meow and Pizza Dog

28:05

as Ghost Rider's Cat.

28:08

And you're going to see a lot of him, especially

28:11

his new transformation. I did a little

28:14

sketch for Neo Fuji

28:17

and yeah, our illustrator is going to take it

28:19

from there and I can't wait to see what

28:22

they'll come up with in the series.

28:24

Love it. So you're going to be coming in

28:26

and you're going to be doing a brand new series,

28:29

The

28:30

Century. For

28:32

those

28:32

who may not be as familiar with The Century,

28:35

although The Century has been, it's

28:37

done some things. It's been some teams,

28:39

has fought some stuff,

28:41

has

28:42

been very arrogant and takes some people off, has

28:44

become people's friends. The Century's done some

28:46

stuff. For you, do you

28:51

mind sharing a little bit of the background

28:53

of the story of who Century

28:56

is and why he's important?

28:59

So Century is Marvel's

29:04

forgotten and

29:06

most powerful superhero in the

29:10

Marvel universe. He

29:12

did this amazing

29:14

thing, defeating the most

29:16

evil force in

29:18

the universe, which was the void. But

29:22

in order for him to keep

29:24

that a victory, he had to make

29:27

everyone forget about his own existence.

29:31

And then eventually he makes his

29:34

return and Century

29:36

is this guy that has the power

29:39

of a million

29:42

exploding suns. And

29:45

when he eventually regains

29:47

those powers and he's fighting along

29:49

with the Avengers, he

29:51

becomes Earth's most powerful

29:54

character ever. And

29:57

that can be a good thing, but that can also be a bad thing.

29:59

He's

30:02

solved a lot of

30:04

problems as much as he's created them

30:06

as well. He's a very chaotic,

30:09

unhinged character.

30:12

You know, leading up to my series,

30:14

like what we know is... I

30:17

mean, okay, like, aside from, like, being

30:19

part of all these major events,

30:21

like... World War Hulk,

30:25

Siege, Secret Invasion

30:27

and all that stuff, leading

30:29

up to King in Black, where

30:32

he meets his demise against Knull.

30:35

We see that

30:38

his powers get possessed

30:41

by a hundred million

30:43

insane ghosts in the

30:46

Strange books, where Doctor

30:48

Strange and Clea are fighting.

30:51

The evil spirits of

30:54

Sentry. And then once

30:56

that's also resolved, like, we see

30:58

his spirit being guided

31:01

by the Valkyries.

31:04

And then leading up to my series, what

31:07

happens is we

31:10

find a bunch of Sentry-level

31:14

catastrophes

31:14

happening all around the world.

31:17

And they're all linked to random strangers.

31:20

And it's

31:22

up to Jessica Jones and

31:25

Misty Knight to solve

31:27

this problem and figure out what's

31:30

going on before more

31:32

catastrophes happen around the world.

31:34

Wow.

31:36

And I love this because it's

31:39

so typical of a Marvel

31:41

story where it's like, oh, you thought it was

31:43

the end. That's nice. Welcome

31:46

back. So we

31:49

know that before we hit this, we've

31:51

had a lot of interactions with Doctor

31:54

Strange, with Clea. You

31:56

know, now you're bringing to my girl Misty Knight. Thank you. So

32:00

you're bringing in, you know, two

32:03

of Marvel's best detectives,

32:05

right? And these are detectives that

32:07

have butted heads in the past.

32:10

So it's going to be interesting to see them work

32:12

together to solve this very

32:15

serious issue that deals

32:17

with the century level threats.

32:21

You know, from reading this issue and just

32:23

talking with you, it seems very

32:25

clear that

32:27

you're playing with this idea of

32:29

the everyman. What

32:32

is your

32:33

goal with bringing in new characters

32:35

that you created like Madry Gibbs

32:38

and Farhad Anad

32:39

and Ryan Topper?

32:41

What are you hoping to explore

32:43

in this series?

32:44

I want like new readers to really connect

32:47

with these characters, like because a lot of these

32:49

characters that are created are ones that we haven't

32:51

seen before. But these are people that

32:55

are everyday walks of life, like especially

32:58

if you live in an urban city,

33:00

like they

33:02

are your neighbors. They are the

33:04

person that you see

33:07

at the store. One of them is

33:09

a department store clerk. Her name is Rosalinda.

33:12

One of them is a street magician.

33:16

And I like a challenge of

33:18

getting really deep into these characters

33:20

and making them like very believable.

33:23

That like when you read them, like you can really connect

33:25

with them even if you may not

33:28

identify with them. But you

33:30

can be like, I know a person

33:32

like that. That reminds me of a friend of mine or that

33:34

reminds me of my aunt or uncle

33:37

or that reminds me of my classmate or my

33:39

coworker. And that's what

33:41

these random strangers would

33:43

resemble. Like I hope that people

33:46

can kind of see themselves in this

33:48

more so than we have in previous

33:52

Marvel comics.

33:53

Put this on your poll list. Subscribe

33:55

to it. Make sure you're watching out for

33:58

it. Century number one. Jason

34:01

Loew coming out. I'm excited.

34:03

And issue number one will have a Peach Momoku

34:05

variant cover which I'm so excited about

34:08

because when your comic is graced

34:10

with the Peach Momoku variant

34:12

that's like a baptism. I

34:15

love it. And also yes.

34:20

You just listened to Jason Loew.

34:22

Of course go check out Sentry number one when

34:24

it releases next Wednesday December

34:27

6th and

34:27

of course stay tuned for more info about

34:30

Infinity Paws. Alright

34:33

let's dive into our community section aka

34:35

this week in messages.

34:38

Alright so our guest next

34:40

week is creative lead senior design manager

34:43

at LEGO Jesper Nielsen and he's

34:45

coming to chat with us about the new LEGO Marvel

34:47

Avengers Tower set which is so

34:50

cool. We have a lot of really neat behind-the-scenes

34:53

stuff. I don't think we've ever had a chat with someone from

34:55

LEGO here on the show so stay tuned

34:57

for that next week. With that in mind though,

35:00

fun question of the week is what are your favorite

35:03

Marvel LEGO sets or minifigs?

35:06

Oh man that's such a good

35:08

question. There's I mean there's so many good ones.

35:10

I really love the big Groot

35:12

that they did I think like last year. It won

35:14

a bunch of awards because it was just so great. It's

35:17

great if you have kiddos but also it's like

35:19

looks like a really nice statue of Groot.

35:22

It's really really cool but

35:24

there are just so many. Also

35:27

as always I got a shout

35:29

out Marvel HQ.

35:31

Go check out

35:32

LEGO Marvel Superheroes Code Red over

35:35

the shorts over on Marvel HQ. They're so

35:37

cool.

35:37

Yeah I would go with the

35:40

the Hulk Lab smash set

35:43

which has Taskmaster

35:45

and Hulk and has a Falcon, a

35:48

Thor, but most importantly it has a

35:50

modok. It has a modok.

35:53

Most importantly. Also of course a write-in

35:55

from

35:58

Jasmine for the Sanctum Sorum.

36:00

Yeah, just so

36:02

many good options out there. And so we

36:04

want to hear from you. What are your favorite Marvel

36:07

LEGO sets or minifigs? Now,

36:09

you can send your answers in a number

36:11

of ways. But the best, the best

36:13

way to do it is to send an email

36:16

to us at twimpodcastatmarvel.com.

36:18

You can also send a message to our Facebook page at

36:21

facebook.com slash thisweekinmarvel. But

email's the easiest. We know we're going to get it.

36:25

Please make sure in your email, in your

36:27

message, wherever you send it, tell us it

36:29

is OK to read to him on the show so

36:32

we can read it on the show.

36:33

Yeah. And in fact,

36:35

let's do that. So last week's question of the week was,

36:38

what were your favorite parts of

36:40

Marvel Studios' The Marvels?

36:43

So let's get into it. We will try to avoid any

36:46

too spicy spoilers in case you want to

36:48

still see the film in theaters if you haven't got

36:50

to or if you're going to need to see it 15

36:52

more times. Support it. First up,

36:55

we've got Rachel Ingersoll who said,

36:57

one of my favorite parts of The Marvels was

36:59

the early battle scenes where Carol,

37:02

Monica, and Kamala switch places

37:04

when using their powers, seeing their badass

37:06

fighting continue despite

37:08

the confusion was so fun. Also, Flurkittens.

37:12

Yeah.

37:12

Agreed. Mountain

37:14

Meg says, can my answer be everything?

37:18

Carol, Monica, and Kamala's relationship,

37:20

Flurkittens, singing planets, swap

37:23

action scenes every moment on the hoopty,

37:25

Kamala

37:26

and Kate loved it all.

37:29

The best. All right,

37:31

we got an email here from Heather, Derek, Fiona,

37:33

and Nolan, a family of

37:36

fans. Hello. Because

37:38

of the holiday, we saw The Marvels on Friday afternoon

37:40

and it was amazing. Dad's

37:42

favorite part was Carol using comics

37:45

accurate snark while interacting

37:47

with Fury. Nolan's favorite part was

37:49

the Flurkittens. Fiona's favorite

37:51

part was the solution of the escape pod and

37:54

the problems and how it involved the Flurkittens.

37:57

Mom's favorite part is seeing herself

37:59

in so many. other Marvel fans reflected in

38:01

Kamala. And goes on to say, Carol for me

38:03

represents strength in our humanity and vulnerability.

38:06

This iteration continues in that vein. Chef's

38:08

kiss. Thank you to the Marvel team for continuing to

38:11

make Marvel our universe. Aw.

38:13

Aw. Thanks, fam. We always appreciate

38:15

hearing from you. And that is a wrap.

38:17
