When to go: - Winters are cold - Don’t go in July, too hot - April/May/June is the best time

How to move around: - Public transport is exceptional (metro, bus) —> Buy a monthly ticket for 20€ and go as far as 2hrs away from Madrid - Cheap electric car rental: Car2go

Museums : - Museo del Prado: most touristic, most of the Spanish paintings are there (Velasquez, Goya, etc.). Impossible to see it all in one day. - Thyssen: cool exhibitions - Museo de la Reina Sofia: more modern, paintings of Picasso

Touristy places: - El Escorial: monastery later transformed into a castle - Valle de los Caidos: huge cross and cemetery in honor of the victims of the Civil war, can see the entire city —> 45 min away from Madrid by car. —> you can also go there skiing in winter or hiking in summer. - Even the Estadio Santiago-Bernabéu, although ugly on the outside is worth going in, in the middle of the city—> go to see a football match of the Atlantico!

Architecture: - Torre Picasso: owned by the owner of Inditex, white at night - Paseo de la Castellana: on Sundays from 9am to 2pm : car free, going North to South, go through the main museums and the Retiro

For sunsets: > Royal Palace, Templo de Debod > Circulo de Bellas Artes: rooftop to chill and take a drink > Town hall: rooftop

Parks: - Retiro park: chilliest place, go in Spring Going out: - Malasaña: near the Retiro, lots of bars and clubs, there’s a Pacha (Teatro Barcelo) - Best club: Teatro Kapital + in the South: clubs in the surroundings of central station Atocha - Nuevos Ministerios: lots of typical clubs, cool restaurants, big buildings, North

Food: Restaurants: - El Rincón de Jaén: traditional Spanish food - Malasaña: full of gastronomical places > Ochenta Grados: innovation of Spanish> Perrachica > Cherry Pecas

Traditional food: > Gaspacho: tomato soup with vegetables and breads > Tortilla de patata: omelette with potatoes > Habitas: green beans, jamón > Salad with tuna and tomatoes > Paella is more for the South, very different dishes depending on the region you visit > Cocido: between February and March: > Turrón: chocolate with popped rice > Tarta De Santiago: almond cake > Tarta de la abuela: cookie, chocolat and concentrated milk
