True Wisdom
If you’re going to make it through life, you need something we hardly talk about today. It’s not identical to knowledge, and it’s not identical even to moral goodness. It’s wisdom. You’re going to make an absolute muck of your life if you don’t find and grow in wisdom. There’s no better place to go to than the book of Proverbs. As an introduction to the book, we’re looking at chapter 8, which as we go through it, we will see, shows us the importance of wisdom, the definition of wisdom, the problem of wisdom, and a clue to the solution. This sermon was preached by Rev. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on September 12, 2004. Series "Proverbs: True Wisdom for Living". Scripture: Proverbs 8:10-16; 22-31. Today's podcast is brought to you by Gospel In Life, the site for all sermons, books, study guides and resources from Timothy Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Maker of Heaven and Earth
We live in a culture where the psychology class will teach that your problem is a lack of self-esteem, but the philosophy and biology classes will teach you that you are nothing. The doctrine of creation shows that the universe is not an accident and that every single human being has inherent value because they are made in the image of God. Yet, God is not merely a distant creator. God entered the world and died to redeem it because He loves us so much. This sermon was preached by Rev. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 16, 2011. Series "To Know the Living God; The Majesty of God". Scripture: Psalm 8:1-9; Genesis 1-2; Luke 1:68; Matthew 21:14-16; Deuteronomy 7:7; John 17:19
The King and the Furnace
In sixth century BC, Babylon was the preeminent power in the world, and this passage shows how they conquered Israel and deported the professional classes, including artisans, scholars, and government and military officers, in order to subjugate them through assimilation. This passage shows how Daniel and his three friends confronted the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar. What happened in that confrontation? This sermon teaches three things: the pressure of pluralism, the precision of truth faith, and the promises of suffering. This sermon was preached by Rev. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on August 21, 2011. Series "Theophany: Anticipations of Jesus in the Old Testament". Scripture: Daniel 3:14-29; 1 Peter 1:7; Job 5:7; 1 Peter 4:12; Isaiah 43:1-5
