Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113, was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. The law threatens abortion providers with prison time, according to the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, which -- along with attorneys Deborah LaBelle and Mark Brewer, as well as Planned Parenthood Federation of America -- is representing Planned Parenthood of Michigan in a separate suit challenging the law.
