Today on Wedding Wednesday Q&A, I’m answering a question from Rachel.  She’s a bride to be who is planning a destination wedding.  Her question is: how do I travel on a plane with my wedding gown?

 

This is a great question!  I’ve had a few of my friends who planned destination weddings and I always wondered how they safely transported their wedding gown from point A to point B.  For me personally, I didn’t have a destination wedding and I was already freaking out when it came to carrying my gown from my car to inside the hotel!  It of course was covered and hidden in a garment bag, but I was just so nervous whenever it was handled and in transit!  So, I can only imagine how destination wedding brides feel when have to travel on a plane with their gown!  Plus, going through airport security and walking around the airport, even without carrying a wedding gown, is already something most people don’t enjoy.  

 

Since I personally don’t have experience in traveling with my wedding gown on a plane, I did some research to properly answer this question for you destination brides out there.

 

I found a great article that was featured in USA Today that featured some helpful tips, so I’ll be referencing it in today’s episode.  

 

Destination weddings can add an extra layer of stress to your wedding plans.  The article from USA Today says that if you must travel with your gown, it's best to keep it with you at all times to minimize the danger of it becoming lost or damaged. To avoid any issues and to ensure your travel goes smoothly, you should properly pack your gown and prepare early on for that plane ride with your precious cargo.  

 

The first thing you should do is verify airline rules and their onboard accommodations.  

 

Another step for destination brides-to-be is pack your gown properly.  provide extra protection from moisture and damage during travel and inspections.

If you are traveling out of town for your wedding, you should also keep in mind the airport security procedures.The final piece of the puzzle when it comes to traveling with your gown on a plane is consider how you’ll care for your gown upon arrival of your wedding destination.
