You know what it is that Steve Harvey's Saturdays.
0:02
But we're gonna stop and do a little time at
0:04
time, all right. That's when we talk to ordinary
0:06
people that are doing extraordinary things.
0:08
That special guest this morning is a retired
0:10
Sergeant first Class, a G. Sheila
0:13
Snipe, the twenty two years veteran from
0:15
the United States arm and she is, by her
0:17
own claim, a people person.
0:19
She loves helping us. Put your hands together and welcome
0:22
the one and only Miss Sheila
0:24
Snipes. Good morning, Sheila, Great
0:27
morning, Tommy. How are you? I'm
0:29
good baby. How you doing, Tommy? If I
0:32
was doing any better, I'll tell you I am one
0:34
of the top shelf looking up. That's
0:37
what I'm talking about. Let's talk about it. Twenty two
0:39
years in the service, serving our country
0:41
a long time. What was that like? Wow,
0:44
that's a good question. Nobody has ever asked
0:46
me. But it was scary, humbling,
0:49
and truly an honor to be able to serve
0:51
twenty two years with some amazing
0:54
service members. You know, the Army
0:56
to me, is the best organization of the world
0:58
that I got a chance to serve. It not just
1:00
the Army, but the Navy, Air Force, Marines
1:03
fighting on the battlefield for
1:05
our uns and daughters freedom. So you
1:07
know it was just humbling, twenty two years
1:09
humbling. Did you go in right after high school?
1:12
I did not. I joined when
1:14
I was twenty one. And let me tell
1:16
you how doing it was either you know, my
1:18
mother was like, you better get yourself together or
1:20
you're gonna get kicked out. So I said, you know
1:22
what, I better get myself together and
1:24
I'm I'm gonna join the army. And
1:27
that's how it happened. How many countries
1:29
did you make it too? Um? I served
1:31
in the Gulf War. Um served seven
1:34
months over in the Gulf War. My unit was the first
1:36
one to deploy over there, and
1:38
I was stationed in Korea, went
1:41
to Japan. But
1:43
other than that state side here with
1:46
the amazing warriors here in the
1:48
United States. So Sergeant
1:50
first Class a G.
1:54
A G is the Adjutant General CORES.
1:56
That's just our branch of servants with
1:58
is the combat, the support, and we serviced
2:01
all of the soldiers. You know, make sure that that paperwork
2:04
is good from the time that they enter the
2:07
army until the time that they exit. Okay,
2:09
so were you were you ever on boots?
2:11
On the ground. Were you out in the field? Absolutely,
2:15
always in the field, always in the
2:17
field. And again so seven
2:19
months in desert storm, there's a shield.
2:21
First boots on the ground way before
2:24
the war started, back in the day. So
2:26
absolutely, boots always on the ground for twenty
2:28
two years. Did you jump about the helicopter?
2:31
See, yes, I am area
2:33
Salt Hook. That is
2:35
so sexy to me. Woman jumping
2:37
out of the helicopter. Good God, him mighty.
2:40
It's scary to Tommy, but I did it.
2:44
So let's fast forward. Now you're being
2:46
in the service twenty two years, and then there's a transition
2:48
from military to entrepreneurship.
2:51
Yes, what exactly did you do once you left
2:54
the military? Once I left the military,
2:56
which one thing I love about the military.
2:58
Of course, they want you to be at a transition
3:00
smoothly. So you know, we go through these
3:02
classes, teach you how to dress for success,
3:05
because I've been wearing a uniform for twenty two years.
3:07
You know how to write a good resume because now
3:09
I'm going from service member to civilian.
3:13
But one thing they didn't teach us, which none
3:15
of us learned in school, is about entrepreneurship.
3:18
And so I've always dreamt of being my
3:20
own boss so that I could be able to give
3:22
back. And I didn't know what vehicle
3:25
I was going to be put
3:27
before me to be able to do that. But
3:30
entrepreneurship is where is that gives
3:32
you that that freedom and that time
3:35
that you know so many people want. But it's
3:37
hard work. It's hard work, understand. So
3:39
let me ask you this, So what took you to
3:42
You're in the travel industry now right. I
3:44
am in the travel industry. I do
3:46
it part time and I love it. Thevel
3:49
industry with you, well, of course, you know travel
3:52
too many times being in the military,
3:54
and of course I traveled to places
3:56
I didn't want to go, and it took
3:58
me twenty out of the twenty two
4:00
years. It took me twenty years just to go on
4:03
a vacation, Tommy. And you know
4:05
that's because of my job. But an
4:08
old army buddy of mine who
4:10
happened to be my aerosol sergeant, said,
4:12
schill, I want you to take a look at something. Now.
4:15
He didn't know that I was looking for a part
4:17
time job that I really didn't want to do, but
4:20
he said, let me share something with you. So I took
4:22
a look at it, and I had no idea that
4:24
the travel industry is lucrative and
4:26
it's a trillion dollar industry.
4:28
Wow, that I did not know. I
4:30
had no idea. Twelve zeros,
4:33
to be exact, Tommy, twelve zeros,
4:35
okay, twelve zeros and trillions.
4:38
I ain't got that in my bank account. I'll tell you that.
4:42
Do me a favorite. You know, I love when kids
4:44
can hear options when they get to that
4:46
eighteen nineteen years old. You're getting ready
4:48
to leave high school and your head is spending.
4:51
You don't know what to do, you don't know where to go, and
4:53
you know, not everybody is wanting
4:55
to go and hit the collegiate level and do college.
4:58
So the fact that the military is
5:00
an option, what can you say to you?
5:02
Is coming up? And more importantly, you know young
5:05
ladies that are coming out of school. Wow, that's a
5:07
good question. Um. First
5:09
off, I would say, go after your dreams.
5:12
Yes, not everyone is meant
5:14
to go to a four year
5:16
college, but you know you don't have to go to
5:19
an institution to to learn.
5:21
If so many self development books out here,
5:23
Tommy, I would say, find yourself
5:26
a mentor someone that
5:28
is in the going in the direction is
5:30
already in that field that you want to go
5:32
into. Latch onto them,
5:34
learn everything that you can learn from
5:37
them, and again, just just
5:39
have the belief that whatever you want
5:41
to do, you can do it. If
5:43
you think you can, you can. If you say you
5:45
can't, then you can't. But you know,
5:47
just dream, dream big, and go
5:49
fast. That's right now. Would you encourage
5:51
them to take a peek at the army? Absolutely,
5:55
it's the again greatest organization of world.
5:58
It will teach you some things, I'll say,
6:00
you know, it will make you upbreak you definitely.
6:03
But I I believe that every
6:05
young person should at least serve two
6:07
to four years in the United States
6:09
Army or whatever branch of service,
6:11
because it's a humbling experience and that
6:13
allows you to give back sacrificing,
6:17
and that's what it's all about. We all have to sacrifice
6:19
some things to you know, put yourself
6:21
aside to help someone else. So yes,
6:24
I do believe that I like them doing
6:26
two to four years. I think it actually would get you a
6:28
lot more organized and on track to
6:30
start your life. I really do. Absolutely.
6:33
That is that's our girl. Let's give a big round
6:35
applause. Sheelas Knips twenty two years
6:37
in military. This is time of time. This is
6:39
where we talk to ordinary people that are doing extraordinary
6:42
things see Lott. We want to say thank you, baby
6:44
girl, thank you Tommy for having
6:46
me. It's truly a pleasure. God bless baby.
6:48
Thanks so much, God bless
