Jeff is a true New Yorker worshipping the NY sports teams and ended up writing his first big book about the World Series Champion New York Mets team from 1986. Jeff was one of the top baseball writers for Sports Illustrated and he covered and wrote many stories and books surrounding the game of baseball. We discuss his early days and time at the University of Delaware as an aspiring writer. He "took his talents" down to Nashville, TN for a few years before getting his big break with Sports Illustrated. Jeff became widely known for his polarizing story about pitcher, John Rocker, who publicly said some racist things back in the 90's.Jeff successfully wrote books that we talk about on the show today about Brett Favre, "Gunslinger" and the fun in interviewing people for that project. Also, the ups and downs of writing a Walter Payton book called "Sweetness".Of Course, the main topic today is about his new book "Three Ring Circus" about the Los Angeles Lakers dynasty spanning 7 years in the late 90's and early 2000's.
